    Gorgeous piece, especially since you left it stained and opted not to paint it. Excellent choice! Thank you. I’m tackling this same project very soon. Great video!!!

    Very nice! I came here bc I am straddling the fence as to what to do with my grandparents old bedstead set. Prolly 100yo, walnut, cured dark in the summers in the attic, tiniest scratch to the finish leaves yellow mark. Feels hard and rough. If i dare sand it , it will turn to that yellow old powder. Scared. Want to do a bench but it will be sensitive.

    That is incredible. It looks fabulous and in years to come when it needs a repaint or stain, someone will look at it properly and realise the genius of the guy who made it out of an old bed headboard. I honestly think anyone would be very proud to own it. It’s original and beautiful. Wish it was mine. xxx

    Games from Quebec.... It would have been interesting to see what would have happened if you had painted it cream underneath that beautiful wood detailing or even a white or possibly a gray.... I'm personally glad you didn't but it would have been interesting to see it..... Anything I would have done differently with it is I would have allowed for two or three more inches regular than the standard 24..... For seat and back cushions..... You put a really great seat on there again nothing I would have done any differently..... But I would have added a little bit more of an overlap by allowing for a few more extra inches.... We all have different tastes and different uses for everything right....

    I like the wood finish. What is TSP?

    • @BrickHouseVintageDIY
      @BrickHouseVintageDIY  2 роки тому +2

      Trisodium Phosphate.. It's a cleaner that helps cut through grease, grime and anything else that could prevent primer and paint from adhering, or from being ground into the piece when sanding. You can use something like dawn dish soap, but the TSP works better in my opinion, and is easier to wipe/wash off with clean water afterward. The dish soap takes a little more work and rinsing to get all of the residue and soapiness off.

    Stain was a great choice! How long did it take from start to finish?

    • @BrickHouseVintageDIY
      @BrickHouseVintageDIY  Рік тому +1

      Thanks! I started late one afternoon so the build went into the next day, but between the two days it was probably only a few hours, minus any wait time for stain or finish to dry.

      "Ruining" is very subjective. The family that bought it loves it for what it is - A beautiful entryway bench. They didn't need a bed, they wanted a beach. In fact, this video is almost 2 years old and with the trend of what was "in" by us, this bed as it was would have sat and we wouldn't have been able to sell it for $20. Auctions and sales would literally be giving them away. Instead, we chose to repurpose it into something usable and sellable while still maintaining some of its unique charm. At the time, that's exactly what we achieved. We made almost 50x more on it as a bench then we would have as a bed.
