      Is there a homeschool fb page or websites I can go to for homeschooling in PR? We plan on moving to the island and I want our son to be immersed in the culture. So I guess I am looking for Boricua homeschool support groups, meet and greets, play date, etc...

    I have watched this video twice since it came out. Before moving back to the island after 20 years in Japan and California. I don't think foreigners should watch this video and make their mind just with the information provided here. A decent private education isn't much in the island. Paying $320 a month on average is cheaper than $1,000 plus a month in a private school in some states. I would say about 90% of my high school peers that went to Perpetuo Socorro in Humacao have achieved and continue to achieve great things. Also, there are companies from the states that come here often to recruit P.R university students for specialty jobs/careers. Universities here are very competitive (cheaper) when compared to many universities in the states. A child from a public school here has the same chance as a child in the states to go to Harvard and other elite universities if that is the goal of your child. Sadly our education system has taken a blow since Maria and other things (government corruptiont?). I have to agree with Christer Perez in many things as well.

    I just moved here, and it has been so hard. Since we were in the States, we had our kids in a Michigan virtual academy it was amazing it was like regular school but virtually we miss it so much here there is nothing like that unless you pay thousands of dollars. We are regretting this move to be closer to family.

      We live in West coast PR and yes private schools are good especially the bilingual ones but they are pretty pricey. It adds up especially if you have more than 1 child in the school. Plus all the extra curricular activities you need to pay into to help raise money for the school etc.

    Hello Jen , do you know if there is an option or program similar to the K12 online public school available in the island. I'm planning to move to puerto rico and have 2 kids that are currently doing home school through the K12 program and I want to try to keep that going on.

    • @Anacaona4
      @Anacaona4 2 роки тому

      That's not going to work, because the internet on the island is sketchy, low quality, and very frequently down. This is including random but regularly occurring power outages, and sketchy cell and landline phone access. If you homeschool in PR, I recommend to do mostly traditional book learning.

    • @ang_cs6284
      @ang_cs6284 3 роки тому

      Colleges in PR are good, you just have to pick the right one for the career you want. I won’t lie, for some degrees, you might want to look elsewhere. It depends on what you are looking to accomplish. Plus it is also up to the student if they are successful or not, there is only so much a prestigious name can get you.

    We just moved to San Sebastián and are homeschooling this semester, but have enrolled our daughter in first grade in a private school for next year. We are trying to figure out what we need to do to give evidence for this semester. The schools that we went to check out have all said that they require evidence of homeschooling and that we have to contact the region’s dept of education. If you have any info that would be appreciated.

    The level of American and economic privilege in both the video and the comments is just too much to handle. "We want to move to Puerto Rico to live this island life" - insert the biggest eye roll I can. Make sure you add to your homeschooling curriculum the actual history of the colonized Puerto Rican land you are occupying. The history of the people, the history of our ancestors, our music, the history of Puerto Rican colonization, economic oppression, the corporate tax incentive schemes that are destroying the island. And the level of disaster capitalism that overtook the island after Hurricane Mria and Irma and all of the earthquakes.

      The invasion is coming - although it was invaded ever since Columbus. Conversely, Greengoe$$$ in the states like to claim that "illegal aliens" invade their land, yet they do so to engage in the necessary dirty work(as it was for slaves). If it weren't for the Yankee Capitalist/Imperialist mindset and their money hungry policies, those immigrants wouldn't be forced to come to the USA due directly to the US destabilizing those respective countries and their economies.
      P.S. We're in the late stages of Capitalism, so we shall see how this all pans out.
      P.P.S. Homeschooling is meant for propaganda purposes and not mixing intellectual ideals/habits with the native populace, as to not betray their agenda/roots.

      Estoy mordio porque hay suficiente espacio en el EUA, pero en PR, no. Si quieren conquistar de nuevo, que lo hagan en otro lado. Dejale la isla a los nativos, quienes han vivido ahí por muchas generaciones y en muchos casos, sin tener el privilegio de los Greengoe$$$.
