I missed this one! very cool adventure!! We had a Sunday Roast in Greenwich. YUMMMMM! Rick Steves approved town - awesome! 😆 We live about 20 minutes from his main office. Our neighbor is one of his guides. Great travel resource. 👍
So cool that you know one of his guides! I've been a big fan of his since I watched his PBS shows with my parents growing up. Hope you enjoyed Greenwich - we had a vlog from there earlier in this trip!
Eliz, I'm glad you mentioned Rick Steves! His videos and books taught so much about how to the most out of travel. We even visited his shop north of Seattle a couple of times and met him, too. You Lake District vids really add some great context to the romance of the area!
Haha yes, we love Rick Steves! He's helped us navigate through Europe a bunch of times. 😆 I grew up watching his shows on PBS, and I think I may have seen every episode lol!
It's great having a car when exploring in the UK, even if those tiny country roads are a challenge! I love being able to see places that often are less well known. All of the scenery looked gorgeous.
Castlerigg is my favourite stone circle! It commands amazing views across the lakes (when the weather is clear) but has its own unique atmosphere in inclement weather. I'm not religious in any way, but touching the stones gives me a very spiritual feeling of connection to my ancestors.
It was seriously SO GOOD! Flavor profile was right up my alley haha. They probably had some Ben & Jerry's ice creams flavors, but this was was described as being the brand "Double Jersey" from the Lakes.
He really did! Thank goodness he was willing to wade through that water to make sure it wasn't too deep to cross! As someone who has flooded an engine in a rural area with my friends in college, I don't take risks like that anymore!
@@MeansToTravel oh my word! That must’ve been so scary! Actually, we are getting on the plane to England tomorrow. I was packing last night and looking at our two new pairs of waterproof hiking boots and thinking of you guys 💕
Harriet and i have never been. We hope to visit the area this summer when we see relatives. Hope the weather is a little better. You can never figure on Uk weather. A nice vlog guys. Sendind you lots of love💖💖 Harriet and Jim. Richmond. Va.
I'm so glad you are enjoying our UK vlogs! We definitely were able to eat a lot of good food, and try to share about it as much as we could! Thanks for leaving this kind comment! 😀
Castlerigg reminds me of the Rollright Stones. (Video forthcoming one of these years, lol!). I’m a big fan of neolithic stones that you can view up close without the crowds and fuss of Stonehenge!
Loved watching this video. Thanks for sharing. It was a great watch. I've just started a video series on my channel as I prepare to run an ultra-marathon in September. Your content is really good motivation for making more videos. Keep the great content coming. Looking forward to see the next one
We drove past the Yorkshire Dales later in this trip on our way to York, but unfortunately didn't have the time to stop! I'm really jealous of you! Hopefully we'll get to go someday, and I'm really glad to hear you had a great time. Smart to rent a car - it gives you so much more flexibility 😀😀
One of the places in the Lake District that all Americans should visit at least once is the Laurel and Hardy museum in Ulverston. Stan Laurel was born in Ulverston and the museum is fascinating.
@@MeansToTravel If you come back head up the Coast to Whitehaven. The old town is a lovely Georgian town and it is the only place in the U.K to have been attacked by the U.S (During the war of independence) it was also the last part of the U.K George Washington ever saw before returning to Virginia. If you are from the Southern States especially the Carolina’s there is a good chance your ancestors left the U.K from this port. It’s a lot cheaper than the Lake District and still looks nice.
I can't believe we had visited so many times before and had never had a proper Sunday Roast until this trip! I didn't even have one when I studied in London for a semester! 😊
Hi there! Just found your channel! Do you have any videos where you talk about how you met, got started traveling, and how you afford it? Do you work remotely, or is this channel your primary source of income? Thanks!!
Hi Heather! Welcome!! We've answered these questions before in the livestreams that we used to do weekly on our channel during the pandemic, but we actually haven't answered them recently! Derek and I met in 2006 at freshman orientation for our undergraduate business school (Indiana University), and we live in Chicago now. I work on Means To Travel full time, and Derek works in the finance field. We both have some abilities to work from home/remotely, but Derek's ability was heightened during the pandemic since he didn't have any in-person meetings to attend (which is why you'll see him more during this series than in more recent videos). All of our travel is completely self-funded from our income, personal investments, and the travel points that we've prioritize accumulating (unless Derek is traveling for work, which he does regularly as well). For many years I've also been able to fly standby, which has decreased my flight costs. With that, we both LOVE traveling, and we love sharing tips we learn and the laughs we have with this community! Glad to have you tag along! :)
@@MeansToTravel oh no that was drizzle when it rains in England we say it's pissing down and I can tell that wasn't piss down that was drizzle by the way i do like your video's🌧🌈

The colors at the stones were so beautiful!! And that ice cream sounded so good! 😁
Such a shame they didn’t transport us through time out of 2020 lol! ❤️❤️😀😀
Thunder and lightning sounds like a very interesting ice cream flavour! But I thought I saw Ben & Jerry’s on the ice cream hut?
