- Today is finally the video I get to check out 2 new products from Davis weather products. The brand new Davis sonic anemometer and the Davis Airlink. Links are below for each item.
The sonic anemometer measures the wind speed more accurately with no moving parts. An awesome upgrade to the traditional spinning anemometer.
The new Davis Airlink gives professional results on air quality as well as temperature and humidity. If you have respiratory problems or asthma, this unit will accurately give you realtime results on the air quality in your immediate vicinity, whether it be smoke, pollen or other air particles that may affect your health or project. The Airlink can be mounted inside or outside and does not require a Davis weather station to operate, it can be used completely by itself, although it will interface wirelessly with the Davis Weatherlink to include the report in your weather conditions on the app.

Another excellent and informative video!
Ben is a star !!
Great report . . I have a Davis Vantage Vue. All of the sensors on the Vue are in one package. I'm going to see how the sonic anemometer would connect to the Vue. This would allow me to bring the sensor suite down to a lower level to clean out the rain collector, and have the sonic anemometer on the roof where the Vue is currently mounted. '73 Bob
how has it been --- your sonic aneometer ??? does rain give it high wind speeds
NICE VIDEO :)
What do you choose on the console for the sonic anenometer as if I recall correctly the only choices are small cup and large cup
I hear you work on weather stations in Florida! I work for High Sierra Electronics. Do you use any of our stuff?
any problems with water getting into the sonic anenomter -- which causes incorrect -- hi wind speeds
I have a VP2 and regardless of the sensor, it really should be mounted with no obstructions from trees or buildings if you're intent is accuracy. There are guidelines set by the weather services on how high and how far away sensors should be from the ground and obstructions.
I realize it's kinda off topic but does anybody know of a good site to watch new series online?
@Aries Gregory Flixportal :P
@Achilles Gabriel Thank you, I signed up and it seems to work :) I really appreciate it !
@Aries Gregory Glad I could help =)
how is the airlink connected -- power - wise
Does it work in rain or snow? I've read that during rain it's very inaccurate. Can You confirm?
👍👍
That is if it wasn’t your neighbor isn’t messing with you and shooting your rain gauge with their garden hose 🤪😜😝
Hey are these hamsticks any good when you install them as dipoles in an attic?
Yes
I used 20m and 40m in my attic when I first started with HF. They did fairly well. And, they are better than nothing!
On rainy days the sonic anemometer will see high wind speed spikes. I had 2 sonics and I returned them.
were your sonic wind meters both davis brand
@@nordello65 yes they were
This is normal for ultrasonics. I wouldn't trust any of them that cost a few hundred bucks. The pro grade ones cost a few grand and will work better and have engineered mitigations to assist with rain/snow/ice et-al. Most importantly these MUST be mounted in an area free of obstructions for hundreds of meters. Otherwise it's a waste of money!
Not a fan of these new non mechanical anemometers. I've had my traditional one up for 5 years now and just recently had to replace the bearing cartridge. I love my Davis Vantage Pro2! But I do wish they would come up with a better designed fan for the 24hr. fan aspiration.
