Yep, Scout with the right passive (30% weapon range), Player Perk "Excessive Force" and Railgun is pretty awesome...as long as you can keep your distance 😀
For me the same, for second weapon I prefer guass. Best combination for big targets. When flying toward fire railgun, when reach 1200 fire guass and if needed rockets.
I found my first rail gun. And it makes enemy encounters almost trivial now because I can pick off most of them before they even reach me. Then I switch to my flak gun for close to mid range combat encounter mop up duty.
The Flack may jus be the absolute MUST HAVE for sticky situations, and all around fuckery in ES2. I think it may be my go to for most mid-long range engagements, which even stating openly, immediately had me re-evaluating to realize I actually rely HEAVILY on the flak when shit gets chaotic in close and I'm overwhelmed with enemies, especially several groups in close or packs of drones, and such, meaning its rly my first choice in MOST situations, and therefore probably one of my favorite all around weapons in general. It's hard to beat that splash damage.
I'd add one exception you left out on the blaster. The umbra paired with penumbra make it an excellent weapon, adding an extra 30% damage to the weapon.
I can second that. Use the eclipse flak to clear drones and soften the targets up, then at 900m switch to eclipse blaster and use the 30% bonus to finish them. With a vindicator the drones will also add to the carnage. The trick is to switch primary weapons regularly to activate the bonus as often as possible.
Thermo Gun - You said it's not worth it in the current meta . However , it's super worth it depending on your perk setup . You can setup your perks to give you shield recharge on CRIT , and device cool down resets . So on a bomber , you can fire this weapon just for more shield and device cool down and then switch to something else . I've seen videos of some Chinese guy doing 1000 lunacy rifts with it :)
Interesting - I mean it works well enough against small groups or easy enemies, like in the video. But you will run out of juice very fast, the travel time of the projectiles is long and close up the often misses, like shown. Every other weapon gives you more dps and mostly better power efficiency. That said, the possible build varieties with all Player-Perks, devices, legendary effects, etc. in specialized loadouts is really, really huge - so I can imagine to make it work under the right conditions and I expect to see some crazy builds after release! 😀 And I´m really looking forward to it!
@@wholesomegamer I use the thermo gun because I can't aim well enough to hit shots most of the time. I use it with the flak as well. I'm just wondering, do you think they made the thermo gun better in the full release? I didn't play EA.
Yep they are, but the shield layer is (with exception of Proto-Scouts for example) rather thin and comes of fast even with an Autocannon...which then eats much faster through armor and hull. But the Blaster has some decent kinetic damage (2:1 ratio energy/kinetic) so it works somewhat fine as a multipurpose weapon for close range.
@@wholesomegamer If i do encounter an enemy with strong armor, Corrosion Injector is one of my favorite Devices. and with Mercy Kill mode, It's common that I spam it back to back. Though I also use it on agile enemies. Basically a "Dodge this!" weapon. (or, as I'd jokingly would've said: "Squirrels that're "high" on coffee.")
Thanks for the explanation. I was using Coil + Gauss, but the latter didnt seem to be dealing the advertised DPS so I switched to an autocannon. Now I know I was just missing 😅
what i have "learned" a flag with a mining thingy, aside of getting all the material with one shot, the mining attachment gives you some pure material much more often than with out it
So, right now i think the thermo gun is great on my bomber, i got high dps and a legendary, the fact that it follows and spreads with a 20% chnace and can make emp shocks is sooo op
Also Railgun is perfect to snipe drones. They got next to no HP and can be quickly taken out just by quick "tapping" them while consuming almost no energy.
Yep - and sniper-builds with the Scout can be super-strong in general, while operating at an incredible range. Once you get swarmed you are in big trouble though 😅
I just saw the Vindicator video - thoughts on Railgun to pick fights and soften things up for your drones before switching to something more scrappy when the enemy runs your gauntlet? Or to give headaches to things that prioritize your drones? It's giving me Ideas...
currently I take whichever i have best at the moment of [coil or pulse] + [autocannon or blaster]. Rapid fire is just an enjoyable perk. Blasters are fun but usually the autocannon is better (maybe if they increased blaster range slightly) I also keep a sniper just in case, and keep a weapon that damages past shields, just in case. (eg corrosion missiles eat bomb throwers for breakfast)
The 10 archetypes + variants + legendary weapons gives you plenty of things to choose from. I love a powerful Jaeger on my Gunship for high damage and high efficiency.
The flak is a really good weapon, I won't deny, but in higher difficulties it's almost as specialized as the scatter gun. The damage it does to armor is so severe that you can start firing, have your shield break, and stop firing, and then die to the shots still in the air that get you in the backsplash. It is also good for clearing minefields.
Yeah I never use it that up close...or in general avoid CCQ at all. It´s definitely not the best gun for Striker pilots 😄 - but with my Gunship I decimate whole groups at 2.2km and get rid of pesky armor/anti-missile drones quickly by just firing into their general direction.
Personally, I use the best tier of Flak gear I can get on a gunship class ship. They’re basically rapid, miniature bombs when used on a cluster of ships/a base! Also, more convenient in some ways than mines (Though I do use mines effectively on bomber classes, make no mistake!)
Yep, the Flak is one of my personal favorites - the AoE-damage alone is awesome against packs. But it is quite the power-hog, you definitely want to pair it with an excellent energy core.
Loved the video! Subbed! One question. If I have a gun on a ship with 2 hardpoints guns vs a ship with 4 hardpoint guns, will the 4 guns ship do more damage?
holy shit i just realized what this game feels like. have any of you played Galaxy on Fire 2 or 3-manticore on mobile? ES2 feels like that but more flushed out and on PC.
For those unfamiliar with the Executioner dealing only Kinetic Damage, although I could've explained how Energy and Kinetic Damage works, the short version is that it's useless against shielded enemies. As in, deals no damage whatsoever, even if the target have only 0.1% Shield left. Edit: Executioner have been renamed to Enforcer
Anyone else having alot of crashing since full release? I played around 150 hours of EA and had little to no problems but since full release the game crashes every 10 mins or so, usually while loading a new instance such as going from space to planet or vice versa or when going into warp. I've tried everything I can think of and nothing has fixed it. Re-verifying files, run as admin, change the dx11 to 12, change gfx settings etc etc. I'm at a loss!
@@wholesomegamer Hey, thanks for answering. Yeah, it's quite strange as I didn't have any issues before full release. I noticed that quite a few people are talking about it in the Steam threads but no one has found a solution yet it seems. Ah well, I'm happy it works for you atleast :) Happy gaming!
Did you start over with new save? Or are you continuing the save from EA. If so, it may just be some incompatibility issues with the old/new save files, I think there's even a prompt about possible issue if you try to load an old save.. I was only past the tutorial with my old save, and luckily for me, I have no issues playing with that.
I love the concept and functionality of the gun...if they would adjust it a little bit. The slow projectile travel speed is also an issue in high density combat situations as I recognized lately.
I agree. I absolutely fell in love with Freelancer when it was still around and they killed that game far too soon. I've been looking for a similar game ever since. Everspace feels a lot like Freelancer and that's why I started playing it. Freelancer had multiplayer and I really wish Everspace did too. Freelancer had a lot more in the trading between systems. That's where you made your money - usually by smuggling contraband across high risk areas. It made the game that much more fun. Maybe they'll add multiplayer later in Everspace? One could hope. I'm currently playing via Xbox on the cloud but I'd buy this game in an instant if it was multiplayer. I'm also noticing that this game is far better to play on a PC. The Xbox controls aren't nearly as friendly. I think I may switch to my laptop.
hate to say this i have to stop around 4 minutes, your voice is so boring and you are showing no enthusiasm what so ever i was literally falling asleep not even a quarter way through, improve your emotion then retry again.
I prefer my Railgun with the marksman prefix. Being able to snipe a target from 4550m away is just awesome.
Yep, Scout with the right passive (30% weapon range), Player Perk "Excessive Force" and Railgun is pretty awesome...as long as you can keep your distance 😀

I like gauss for shields and decimator for kinetic. They're just so satisfying to use on a gunship.
16:04 (Blasters)
My current go-to, as I almost exclusively engage in close quarters.
Plus that shielded enemies are far more common than armored.

Yep, on the right side of your cross-hair....should be highlighted at the beginning of each weapon section in the video 😉

Be careful not to hurt yourself with the Flak in CCQ 😅. Blaster goes really nice with the Striker.
