Hey mate. I worked for eBay for a while as a customer service rep and I worked directly with sellers, and I have a lot of experience with this. Often, stuff through the GSP would arrived damaged to customers. This doesn't matter if it's the US or the UK as Pitney Bowes are the ones who have the contract for both, but one thing I know for sure is that the UK staff got in a lot of trouble for awful man-handling of packages, and for a while it calmed down, before they got reckless again. eBay know, but eBay really don't care. People are still going to use the GSP for simplicity's sake and because of cost. For a lot of people, the GSP is a lot cheaper for them to use than to ship themselves.
(EDIT: It was mentioned later in the video that Pitney-Bowes has ONE facility per country for eBay GSP) I have a feeling those who are inspecting the packages aren't being paid enough, get unrealistic expectations set on them (a la Amazon), and/or don't actually get to see the original eBay listing and/or information about the and/or handling it.
When I was selling stuff on eBay as a full time job (Blank Cassettes, VHS, etc.) and I had a buyer ask to use GSP, I told them no. I’d just sit down and do the 14 page paperwork (if I remember correctly) and send it out. I remember seeing on the forums that this was a common issue and just never wanted to run the risk. Plus, I’d always get positive feedback from my buyers for how fast I was able to get it there. Sure, I’d ask for more money for “handling” but it never was outrageous, and plus, the buyers were more than happy to pay just a little bit more so their item arrives faster and in the condition they bought it in.

I work in a warehouse for a big eBay seller, and I always make sure to package the international orders really well. I had no idea they completely destroy the packaging when processing it. Pretty upsetting.
I've had pitney Bowes steal my package several times. I used to live down the road from the Kentucky facility. It's in a shit hole. I remember having to ask for a refund, eBay not doing anything so I would file a police report several times. Seems to be they still don't give a rats ass EVEN AFTER having the police investigate several times. It's insane.
Bought a rare vinyl from the US that I've been looking for for several years. When one finally popped up I immediately bought it. Global Shitting Program. Arrived with the outer packaging and cover slashed, bent and the vinyl was shattered (which isn't even that easy to do). 100+eur and years worth of waiting for one to even show up down the drain. Thanks f*ckbay
One thing I hate about the GSP is that they claim to handle all the hard work _and_ customs charges in one neat package. The issue is that they've included bogus customs charges for book orders when book imports are not taxed in the UK.
Not just the tax if there is any , they charge buyers for arranging import duties even when there are none . Where i live there is an upper limit of 100 euros before import tax comes into it so a 50 euro item has no problems , it can be sent Royal mail and will clear customs with no problems . GSP is a scam
(Updated) Seeing this is now making me panic about the vinyl records I brought a couple of days ago that are coming from the USA to the uk, I'm hoping they leave it alone as one of them is 50year old new old stock(still in it wrapping) and rare as rocking horse poo Edit: it turned up a couple of days ago and it didn't look promising. The packaging had obviously been opened and poorly taped back together, with a nice slip mark of a box cutter, thankfully the seller had packed it well and the blade didn't make it through the second layer and my records thankfuly remained unharmed. But I must admit this has really put me off buying anything from American sellers in the future
I was selling a motherboard and the buyer said it was broken. They sent back a locked motherboard and got away with it. Ebay has no protection for the seller through global shipping. This is BS
It does limit risk to sellers, in that it prevents the foreign buyer "it didn't arrive" keep the item and get a full refund scam. It is their responsibility for the foreign part of the delivery. It doesn't make the sale completely scam-proof of course.
Even on the domestic shipping eBay still treats the seller like GARBAGE. Someone bought a graphics card from me for a computer that couldn't power it (not enough PCI-E cables or big enough PSU) and then he lied to eBay saying the GPU was dead and I was forced to issue a refund... I just let the account go into negative balance and never used eBay again :) It's trash
I once ordered some rare booster box with trading cards from the USA for 140 USD... all I got was a cardboard with an A4 paper taped on it that had some $1 pattern printed on it. I'm pretty sure the seller was trustworthy and didn't try to scam me. He was as confused as I was and luckily we were able to sort it out, although it took us a month of writing with each other and the ebay customer service to get our money back. Absolute garbage. Don't ever order anything from that global scam program.
Pitney Bowes employees are known for literally stealling shit from packages, among other things, atleast it isn't as bad as the time that customs officer in the US gutted a sealed booster box of the Pokemon Jungle Set because he claimed that he thought the seller and the buyer were smuggling cocaine in it.
I sell and I have had someone from some other country straight up ask if I can ship the item to a forwarding facility so they can handle the customs themselves and get the item shipped to them. I suggested the GSP. They said If I wanted to use it, they would not buy my item, because this crap going on is just that awful. I cannot really blame them, this is some poop. Sure enough he bought it and it arrived in like 14 days in literally pristine condition, minus some scuffs. He had even sent me a picture of the box along side another from the GSP. One from me looked like someone dragged it on some pavement for a few feet. The other looks like it had hit pavement at terminal velocity, then been promptly sat on, as the god of thunder proceeded to have intercourse with the box. There was literally a huge hole in the side of the box and what looks like the front end of a VW golf that was hit by a train. Wtf eBay how does that even happen. Nice buyer though... saved me a few hundred bucks... glad some people will look out for the new sellers or at least not screw them...
I feel this man. I collect a lot of Mega Man NT stuff, a lot of which never got released outside of America. I bought one of the rarer figures from the line, which was mint on card, it was absolutely brand new and I paid a pretty penny for it. Got it, and the backing card had been cut into, and there was damage to the figure itself because they'd managed to cut one of the rubber band ties that kept one of the accessories in, and it had been bouncing around in the box scuffing up the figure. I was not a happy camper that day.
They probably get paid beans to open boxes 100 hrs a week and are expected to open 500 per hour. I'd slash 'n dash collectibles too if I were in that position
@@LilacMonarch Other people in shit jobs could have ordered something after saving up for a long while and then it gets destroyed by someone who can't be bothered.
"i thought the seller was always safe on ebay" H-have you ever sold on ebay? XD i had a customer admit to destroying an item themselves and ebay still made me accept the return
Eh, it's a mixed bag. Years ago I ordered a box of figurines from the old Pokemon trading figure game, and most of them were already broken when I opened the box, it all stunk to high heaven, and the listing was for the items being new. Was never able to get help from eBay with it, seller wouldn't respond to me, and I was stuck with a disgusting smelling box full of broken plastic and packing peanuts, and I was out a wad of cash.
@Samuel Giam I've had it a few times when selling things that are for parts or repair, like a laptop I sold to some guy globally, even though it was clearly stated everywhere that it was for parts or repair he opened a case about it being "broken" anyway and because the cost of shipping to get it back to me was nearly as much as the item I just had to let it slide.
We actively avoid all Global Shipping listings for these reasons and many more. Everybody buying on eBay should absolutely do the same. Alternatively, give the buyer the choice.
I wanted to buy a LEGO set from Ebay, and that GSP thing made every listing I saw to so expensive, and I contacted Ebay, and their service is horrible. I decided to close my Ebay account as a result. There are so many retailers out there. It's just ain't worth it.
This video genuinely upsets me, imagine if this is an item that is one of a kind, or costs thousands (which, does happen), and you get it slashed and dashed.... I've been lucky that most of my items have arrived in good nick from eBay, thank god.
@@lighterinthestorm In that case you would, but you shouldn't have to worry about your item getting damaged in the post, just in general. Their job is to deliver an item, so things like this is just against the whole idea of delivery in general. I wouldn't even care if I had to pay extra, but in this case, you're paying extra for nothing.
I order alot of model kits off of eBay and now I'm a bit cautious of ordering again last thing I need is one of my kits getting slashed N dashed and destroyed in the process
Over the last 2 years I've bought 3 items from the USA to Canada using the global shipping program and ALL 3 were damaged and re packaged very poorly. NEVER AGAIN will I use the GSP. It's a total scam anyway.
holy crap, that's exactly what happened with the two things i've ever gotten shipped through the GSP. the boxes were slashed and scuffed up. thankfully it was some earbuds and a dial where i didn't really care about the box and the products themselves were fine.
That says a lot about ebay. They know about this but they turn a blind eye and don't care. Money means more than people. I'm glad I never used the service and now after seeing this, I will avoid it like the plague. Nothing is worse than a company that doesn't care and people.
I order a lot of DVDs for like up to $50-$100 a piece. And never hat this problem with GSP maybe it's because they always leave to the bottom and top in the package or idk. Also sweating profusely now everytime I order something
I had the same experience as a buyer. Bought this great antique marble clock (over 130yrs old) from UK. The seller double box the clock. It went through PB who in turn remove 1 box to save weight. Obviously the clock arrived all smashed up. Seller contacted PB for refund. Of course I got my refund and a priceless clock all beyond repair. Sucks.
I almost bought a signed vinyl of my fav band of Ebay from someone in England a while back, first off i would've had to pay an extra like $40 in shipping alone but thank God i didnt pay the full like 100 for everything for it to get fucked up and cut
Australia post has set up a America to Australia shipping service. If you have multiple items in one box, they just unpack each item and put them into individual post bags to increase the shipping costs.
I'm fairly certain this phenomena has reached a felony status of property destruction. eBay could potentially face serious legal action for this. I remember hearing something about FedEx getting in some serious hot water after a lot of their packages were delivered thrashed.
As a seller on eBay I’m never gonna touch that now. That’s mind blowing. I sell vintage video games and typically their original boxing, never had an overseas shipment but damn, that’s sketchy
Lbp boricua Well they are giving him a break, they break the items when they inspect them to pass em on! The true eBay seal of quality, “We break it so you don’t have to!”
if there's a box included in the picture or in the description you should get a full refund because it didn't arrive as described. just open a case in the resolution center.
As a seller on eBay myself, I only ship US due to poor handling of packages. I've started shipping all of my heavy items via FedEx because it is cheaper than parcel select/priority mail and I haven't had a single problem yet.
I worked at this facility. At the time, they were giving us a quota that if not met or exceeded in a certain amount of time, they'd send you home for the day piling up more into the employees meeting the quota. Most of us just tore into the boxes, added the packing slip, taped them up added the pitney sticker and sent them on just to meet quota. Place was an absolute hell hole. 10 hour days, hot, low pay, music just barfing right into your ear, the only upside was the coke fountain.
Thanks for posting this. I've been selling on eBay for quite a while now and was considering try GSP as international shipping is such as pain. But I've reconsidered after seeing this. I sell musical instruments and gear. Most are fragile and expensive. I surely do not need to have my perfectly packed items molested. Cheers mate.
As a buyer, I've always thought the GSP was a total scam. I've been making purchases on ebay for years & only once had to pay customs & duty on an item (I'm in Canada.) But with GSP you are always charged up front for something which in reality you would seldom have to pay. I'd rather roll the dice & see what happens. I won't even buy from a seller that is in the program. I had no idea that workers in the GSP facility were outright damaging stuff, though. Not cool, ebay.
This isn't a total solution, but MAY help: Try asking the seller to put the brown paper above and below the box too (not just the sides), or if possible put some scrap cardboard pieces around the box to protect it (without taping it). Looks like not much will stop eBay's slash and dashing, but can at least minimise damage.
I was gonna buy something from the UK on eBay, but saw the Global Shipping Program fee. Didn't know what that fee was for and found this video. Thanks! You've saved me from heartbreak and wasting my money
Trust me ebay screws seller much harder than buyers. It's a Massive hassle to get eBay to reimburse the seller for anything regardless of the situation.
Do RC I sell on eBay, unless I am totally convinced it is my fault, I contact eBay to review the details. Only once have I not had eBay side in my favor. In that case, they were nice enough to give me a credit equal to the amount of my loss. I had to issue the refund, but the credit covered that month’s bill. When you do create a case with eBay, and they side with you, they will remove any negative feedback you might get. I made a guy furious who bought a DVD player from me. He claimed it didn’t work, asked for a refund and offered to recycle it. I told him I needed the item returned before I issued a refund. He insisted on recycling it, so I got eBay involved. He told eBay he couldn’t return it because he tried to take it apart to fix it, but his screwdriver slipped and damaged the circuit board. He said that shouldn’t matter because it was already broken. eBay closed the case in my favor. He then wrote me a nasty message saying he was going to leave me negative feedback. Ebay blocked him from leaving feedback, Then I blocked him from buying from me. If you are in the right, ebay will side with you. If you are in the wrong, but had the right intentions, they are often sympathetic and will work with you to minimize the loss.
@@xnetpc you are very fortunate. This is not my or many other experience. I have been selling on eBay for years and have been shafted by them multiple times. I've never tried to get them to side with my unless I was absolutely in the right and it rarely works out for me.
@Michael I tried. Trust me I tried. Hours of my life have been wasted multiple times trying to deal with ebay as a seller. I think you misunderstood my last statement. I was saying that I never tried to get them to side with me unless I was 100% in the right. Even then it was a nightmare.
Do RC my best recommendation is to have thoroughly discussed the issue with the buyer before contacting eBay. They will review your messages, and if you’ve done what you are supposed to do, they should side with you. The only time I lost a case was because I sold a used item with a comment in the item description saying it may or may not work depending on what the buyer planned o doing with it. I lost because eBay felt my description was ambiguous and they told me to list an item like that as is. Listing an item as is gives the seller protection from buyers saying something doesn’t work like they expected. I should also mention that I told eBay I disagreed with their decision, I will respect it and issue a refund. They said they understood why I felt that way, and agreed that their terms of service on the matter could be interpreted differently depending on the circumstances. They offered me a credit toward my next invoice equal to the amount of my loss.
@@xnetpc here's an example. I sold something listed both in the description as parts and as parts in the condition. The buyer got it and said it didn't work (which obviously it didn't). eBay forced me to accept the return. When I got it back it was physically damaged from the way the buyer packed it. eBay refunded them and made me eat the cost of shipping both ways. Throughout this I took pictures of everything and was in constant communication with both eBay and the buyer. I appealed as far as eBay would allow with the same decision. During this time I wasted hours on hold and trying to speak with people who barely spoke English (yes I asked to speak to other people). This is just one example of several. I've been in professional IT MGMT for years and have a pretty good understanding of how to handle stuff like this and get the hoped for outcome. I'm glad you've been fortunate but it's just not always like that.
use another proxy forwarder other than the default one offered by eBay? you can get access to more stuff and they treat the packages better, at least in my experience

@@UltimatePerfection as someone who is kind've a collector to a extent, it's not even the fact about it not being opened and just sitting on a shelf. Hell somehow for recent games that you're better off leaving in the case when not in use people still manage to lose the case which means the disc is usually fucked
I had no problems with the Global Shipping Program back in 2012-2018 because Ebay/PBI used GLS a good carrier that deliveried fast to my home. and the import charges are lower than what the danish post office charge. (Denmark has very high taxes) but ever since 2019 The Global Shipping Program has been a pain in the a** because now they use Bring as carrier and Bring do not delivery to peoples homes but random stores long away from the buyers so we have to waste money on gas or bus tickets to go to these stores to get the items and Bring lies on the phone if calling them and claims ebay/PBI has ordered them to delivery packages to random stores long away... this has made me starting to avoid the Global Shipping Program. I don't want my packages deliveried long away from my home.
I live in the city where UPS has their airport based, I worked for them multiple times in the summer as a package handler. UPS package handlers are flipping a coin every day they walk in regarding whether it’ll be a decent consistency of work, nothing too bad yk or ABSOLUTE FUCKING OVERDRIVE DON’T STOP OR ELSE YOU’RE MARKED. Shit’s CRAZY BUSY during the winter month too, the pay was 1,5x ($15 USD which actually ain’t too bad for Kentucky). It’s exercise and you get 15 minutes for lunch. They hire pretty much anyone with a beating pulse that can lift boxes, you’ll find everyone from sleep deprived college students to tweaking junkies working there. I’ve worked on several teams in each “sector” (it’s so big it’s like a small city) where I met all kinds of people. There was even a black dude who lived in Russia for 15 years working there, knew more Spanish than English since he was from Cuba. UPS don’t treat you special but if you stick with it they take care of you decently well (full health insurance, unions, sick/vacation days, etc) considering you’ll probably never move up the ladder. Also yeah sorry about the packages, I tried my best to treat boxes carefully but when you got 15 full trucks (in your small zone team of like 10 people, this place employs thousands) who MUST be on the road at a certain time or else YOU’RE GONEZO...you’re gonna start throwing some things here and there in order to keep your job since Kentucky is one of the poorest states in the union and you probably don’t have a better gig if you’re a package handler for years on end at a young age
If I found out I was the one who mishandled your package (I usually did well but I wasn’t perfect in this regard), I’d pay the costs hands down bro. You make great stuff, sorry your packages arrived damaged.
I'm glad you mentioned how expensive eBay's Global Shi**ing Program can be. I'd love to hoard all the rubber-key ZX Spectrums, but 98% of them are in the UK and the GSP wants approximately £50 shipping per unit for something the size, shape and weight of a relatively short hardcover novel. Meanwhile the few UK sellers who ship to Australia and _don't_ use GSP usually charge whatever Royal Mail charges them (less than 15 quid last time I checked).
Its not actually that much paperwork. Its a 2nd packing label, an extra packing slip, and an extra paper you give to the carrier. Its not that hard. AVOID GLOBAL SHIPPING THROUGH EBAY!

That would make me soooo happy.
I used to sell a lot through Ebay years ago, like 2015, and people would complain all the time about Ebay's global shipping. It's not surprising to see a company like Ebay has made no improvements in the last half decade. They seem to make no improvements to their business at all.

Well said mate. Big corporations always know their shitty practices being shitty but they won’t lift a finger if people still use those rubbish services. It has always been us, the consumers and sellers who let it slide for years. I myself stop dealing with Ebay years ago because of other issues they gave me. Moral of the story: if you’re lazy, don’t sell internationally.
I once bought something from the UK via GSP. After one and a half weeks the seller started asking me if I had received the parcel. I wasn't even expecting it yet, as the service is horrendously slow, but the seller started accusing me of a fraud, saying he has pictures of the outgoing parcel and so on. The parcel arrived next week and luckily it was intact, but obviously the seller didn't quite understand the service he was using. He didn't quite seem to grasp the fact that it was an international service.
Man, it must be amazing living in the US when you're after this kind of stuff only available in the US. Got an 4th gen classic for "cheap" (25 euros) with a broken wheel, and literally every replacement available is from the US and would have to go through the Ebay Global Shipping facility. First of all, I don't want to pay the price for the iPod itself just for shipping one replacement part, and even if I would be that crazy to pay ~30 euros for a clickwheel, it would probably arrive damaged with a nice slice in the middle. I dont even know anymore
For items I really cared about I used to contact the seller and ask if they were willing to not use the global shipping program and a lot of them were. I was using them for Arduino and other low power stuff that regular ones always would turn off. Anyway the seller sent them to the GSP and they got rejected. Stating batteries were prohibited or something. Was so stupid.

Seeing this is now making me panic about the vinyl records I brought a couple of days ago that are coming from the USA to the uk, I'm hoping they leave it alone as one of them is 50year old new old stock(still in it wrapping) and rare as rocking horse poo
Edit: it turned up a couple of days ago and it didn't look promising. The packaging had obviously been opened and poorly taped back together, with a nice slip mark of a box cutter, thankfully the seller had packed it well and the blade didn't make it through the second layer and my records thankfuly remained unharmed.
But I must admit this has really put me off buying anything from American sellers in the future
rocking horse poo
Its partly the sellers being to lazy to take and ship the item themselves so they use the stupid GSP
USA is embarrassingly bad at international trade.
What records are You looking for ??
Id definitely recommend Discogs to avoid the GSP altogether
Returning etc with second handed stuff without first sending it to a company and from there selling it" is a bullshit non working thing anyway
eBay has no protection for the seller period. I've been scammed off eBay a lot and it sucks man.

The only time I lost a case was because I sold
a used item with a comment in the item description saying it may or may not work depending on what the buyer planned o doing with it.

They calculated new postage for me and everything arrived undamaged. Everything I have ever received through the global shipping program has been opened and damaged in some way.
Package: exists
eBay: slash n dash time
Man, I live in Kentucky and oh my god, I have trouble with this so much
My parents warned me to never order from eBay, and turns out they were right. Also Kentucky is awesome:)
"Maybe it's DHL" DHL delivered my package from Hong Kong to Poland in 2 days (collected on Sunday evening, arrived on Monday noon) in a perfect condition! Even if it wasn't marked as a gift it was skipped by the customs!! the shipping was indeed expensive, but it's so good.
GSP ship with FedEx
3:59 mate.....I can see your address...... might wanna fix that
He never did, might as well just line up at his house bringing tons of sad devices/ipods for he to yell at (jk, I literally live at the opposite side of the pacific)
Good thing he moved a long time ago lol
When you spend a whole fricking day watching all an awesome Aussie’s videos on ipods
Thanks for the b roll of Shrek at the end.
I have only ever had 1 experience with the global shipping program. I tried to buy some powerbanks from the US. I was after this specific model because they had 5 USB ports out and a hard switch to lock them on. Unlike most powerbanks that will turn off after a period of time which no power used. I was using them for Arduino and other low power stuff that regular ones always would turn off. Anyway the seller sent them to the GSP and they got rejected. Stating batteries were prohibited or something. Was so stupid.
i think the youtube algorithm works. the last video i watched i noticed and commented about the shrek bust, and the next video i learn how you got it! i just found ya man and this is wonderful! well, your content is wonderful, the ebay global shipping program isnt wonderful
Damn dude, I got an item coming from the Lichfield global shipping centre, now I'm stressed!

Did it come good
@@Matt-yp4iz actually come with no damage
Start asking the sellers to add a thick layer of cardboard or something along the box cut lines so when they decide to open them with a katana with all the grace and finesse of someone eating a mc-donalds, it will hopefully just dig into the cardboard protectors rather than the boxes (If they insist on using Ebay Global Shipping Program which I thought seemed like a decent service but I'll be avoiding this like the plague in the future it seems).
tbh it sounds like it'd be better to put a strip of scrap metal behind the tape and let the box cutter destroy itself.
Old video but hope this finds you. I have a whole plastic carton of iPod boxes and accessories. Some accessories still in their plastic. I’d be happy to send it direct just to help support your channel or for your amusement. Happy new year.
Truth reigns...Best video ever!! Thanks for a good watch and listen. I'm in the U.S. and would NEVER EVER consider buying OR selling using the BS Global Shipping 'Service'!
This makes me nervous because I buy rare horror figures off Ebay, and now I'm deathly scared they'll get broken.
Missi same here brother. the old horror classics from NECA
