Hey! It's Amanda- Sorry about the lack of fun music! We have a very strict data wiping policy so we could only send things that we confirmed were wiped. Hope you enjoy the nuggets and thank you, on behalf of all of us at Free Geek Twin Cities, for shouting us out and for the generous donation!!
I was a volunteer liquidator at Computer Reset in Dallas TX, a huge warehouse full of vintage computers. Part of the cleanup was assisted by the wonderful people at Free Geek, and I can't tell y'all how wonderful those people are! I even still have the free shirt they handed out to all of us one day, so happy to have had a chance to work with these guys and gals!
I'd double check the Eee PC. There could be a possible chance of it still working. Sometimes when something takes too much power from a port on a mainboard, it will render a lot of things unusable. I had some external hard drive mounts that would sap a lot of power from my ports on my desktop, and all my peripherals would just quit working.
Shoutout to Free Geek out here in Portland, Oregon! I used to volunteer there and learned to build my own PC from them. Great guys. Super happy to see you partnered with your local location.
If by Local you mean on a different Continent then you'd be right. There are no Free Geeks outside of North America, and our boi Wade here is in Australia

I used to donate all my old electronics to Free Geek in Vancouver, Canada. They permanently closed in November of 2022 here and I was sad to see them go. It was a very nice non-profit and seeing this video was amazing
That USB A to USB A is actually dangerous. Like it could fry the USB port and in your case it somehow killed all mouse function (if it was it's fault).
this type of cable can actually be dangerous when trying to connect two pcs together, especially when both are on unisolated power. connecting a nugget to a laptop with this should be fine.
I was about to comment that. It technically isn't even a "USB cable" since a cable with the same connector on both sides is not compliant with the USB standards. It's okay for USB-C because it finally allows for power going in both directions and the devices negotiating voltages between each other so that neither one gets fried.
I suspect the touchpad is over internal USB and the male to male did at least crash it. A powercycle could have released it, not sure if dank tried that.
Hey there, my name is Will and I work on iPods at Free Geek! Your videos inspired me to work more on iPods and learn how to fix them and now I’ve made multiple custom iPods that have sold at Free Geek. Thank you for this amazing shoutout and for your very generous donation ❤

I live near the Twin Cities one, they're proper sick. Super cheap parts, laptops well under market rate, and they hook up students with desktop+monitor+keyboard+mouse for very very cheap. Can't wait to see a full video about that Duo Digisette.
I can't get enough of these videos! Be it about headphones (favorite segments), nuggets (second favorite), or just anything music related (tied with first)! So glad youtube randomly suggested your channel a few weeks ago.
Yeah I definitely understand holding on to some of this old stuff. My grandpa recently just gave me his old Sony tape player and it was like a big one from the '70s where it would use giant reels a tape that you would have to string through and then onto another reel. And it works as a very good amp since it can take an aux input. You can pretty much plug anything into it and the lid speakers that came with definitely can crank it
So wild seeing a local connection appear on your channel. Been enjoying your content for a long time now and this video was a great reward after digging out from our most recent snowstorm. Cheers from chilly Minnesooota!
Those Philips GoGear MP3 players are damn near indestructible. I have a slightly different model and have been using it for 21 years now. It has literally been through hell and high water. The battery held a good charge up until it started ballooning in 2019 and after removing it the device still works great plugged into my car's USB port. The sheer resilience of those nuggets would give a Nokia 3310 a run for it's money.
Wow that Dell brings back memories. A good friend of mine growing up had one - I'd never seen another one before or since, but we spent many hours enjoying music off that thing.

The iRivers! My dad had bought me the 120 and we swapped the drive in it and flashed some custom firmware that let it run FLAC... it was a sweet piece of kit at the time, I loved it!

Well, "usable" outside of the fact that the original generation of double-male USB-A designs would fry USB boards because there was no power limitation. Or, as FreeGeek aptly put it; the demons inside it.

They are and aren’t, at least here in its hometown they will overprice things to an insane degree if they know they can, there’s a free geek close to a good will and I have found better working electronics for cheaper at good will than free geek trying to sell a broken Sony recover and amp. But the people that work there are usually really cool!

But my nearest one is in Toronto, which is too far 😔
Free Geek seems rather nice
They are and aren’t, at least here in its hometown they will overprice things to an insane degree if they know they can, there’s a free geek close to a good will and I have found better working electronics for cheaper at good will than free geek trying to sell a broken Sony recover and amp. But the people that work there are usually really cool!
Yeah, the closest Free Geek to me (at least without crossing the border) is the one in Toronto as well. The only kind of computer I can afford is "old" so I'd welcome a Free Geek in Ottawa.
Always a good day when there's a nugget dip. Love hearing the microphon e's in these ol' things, as well as your crazy stories. Thanks for the 14 minutes of fun, Danksy.
This was fun, it's nice when the nuggets are fairly interesting, and boy was that dell in nice condition.
