    I'd double check the Eee PC. There could be a possible chance of it still working. Sometimes when something takes too much power from a port on a mainboard, it will render a lot of things unusable. I had some external hard drive mounts that would sap a lot of power from my ports on my desktop, and all my peripherals would just quit working.

    • @Leurak
      @Leurak 2 роки тому +290

      this type of cable can actually be dangerous when trying to connect two pcs together, especially when both are on unisolated power. connecting a nugget to a laptop with this should be fine.

    • @hammerth1421
      @hammerth1421 2 роки тому +195

      I was about to comment that. It technically isn't even a "USB cable" since a cable with the same connector on both sides is not compliant with the USB standards. It's okay for USB-C because it finally allows for power going in both directions and the devices negotiating voltages between each other so that neither one gets fried.

    Those Philips GoGear MP3 players are damn near indestructible. I have a slightly different model and have been using it for 21 years now. It has literally been through hell and high water. The battery held a good charge up until it started ballooning in 2019 and after removing it the device still works great plugged into my car's USB port. The sheer resilience of those nuggets would give a Nokia 3310 a run for it's money.

    2:16 for those of you who don’t know, USB has required manufacturers standards for people who use their connector. One of these regulations is that the blocked side of the usb (the side with the plastic covering the holes) is facing the bottom or back of the device so that the USB logo is visible. Essentially what I’m getting at is that this device is breaking this rule!! Shame.

    The Eee PC might not be dead. Try rebooting it without the Jukebox and see if you can get the mouse working. You might also need to use the power plug after all, so it doesn't pull too much load through the USB port. That can cause wonk on some older laptops.

      Pretty standard too for touchpads to connect to the mainboard using internal USB. So if one of the ports trips the OCP, likely all of them would go.

    I don’t think I’ve ever seen a nugget nuggety enough to not only have some janky connection, but to require a double male-ended USB-A connector, whilst simultaneously having enough storage to still be somewhat usable today

    • @CluelessAnon
      @CluelessAnon 2 роки тому +1

      Well, "usable" outside of the fact that the original generation of double-male USB-A designs would fry USB boards because there was no power limitation. Or, as FreeGeek aptly put it; the demons inside it.

      They are and aren’t, at least here in its hometown they will overprice things to an insane degree if they know they can, there’s a free geek close to a good will and I have found better working electronics for cheaper at good will than free geek trying to sell a broken Sony recover and amp. But the people that work there are usually really cool!
