Thank you very much for this Oskars. This is the very problem I have on my TD5 Land Rover Defender 130 right now. I have spoken to some Land Rover specialist mechanics, and they say that the DMF will still hold together, even in its poor condition, as to help you get around until you can get another one. Thank you for the information too, especially for testing the oscillation run out and tolerance level, as that is definitely good to know. Sincerely, Matthew
Thanks for this, I haven't done a lot of work on modern cars and have been given a clutch job on a car with a DMF and didn't know how to measure this. I'll be checking this tomorrow!
Good video, well explained. So many videos out there that say if there any rotational play then your DMF needs to be replaced. I know that's rubbish - as you have pointed out it's how much play is what matters, brand new ones all exhibit some play before 'hooking up'
I just removed the gearbox and clutch on my friend's car and was wondering if it was normal for the flywheel to have so much free movement. It's my first clutch change that involves a DMF so this is exactly the kind of information I was looking for. Thank you very much!
Great simple explanation. I really appreciate you taking the time, more people need to see videos like this… that simply get to the point and give you the data needed to complete the task! Thankyou!
Thanks for the video. I need to decide if I need to use a new dmf. In my case it's almost identical to my new one in play etc. So I may send the new one back.
After four months of using the new SACHS set (clutch, dual mass flywheel), noises started after pressing the clutch pedal. I bought the old 22 years with the course of 300 thousand kilometers, the LUK two-mass flywheel in perfect condition. I wonder if this is the fault of incorrect installation or very low quality SACHS wheels.
Thank you, very helpful. I am curious about changing my 2006 BMW Z4 3.0si flywheel from a dual mass to a solid flywheel. I have seen comments that it can impact drivability negatively. Any comments on that aspect?
You will likely feel more vibration the dmf was designed to smooth out power impulses from the cylinders. I personally think it's an exceptable traid off.
I have a Skoda Octavia DMF ZSB06J105266PE, 52000klms, it has 5 teeth play, nothing wrong with the DMF as a wrecked vehicle, the real way to do it would be to bolt it to a fixed plate and use a torque wrench as you want to test spring tension, Manufacturers have test data, its Like testing valve springs certain weight v travel.
In this video you see method for freeplay, number of teeth depends on vehicle, for example, Volvo D5 engine, freeplay is up to 6 teeth, and it is manufacturer specified. Measuring spring resistance is another story.
Hello mate I have a question,, I've got cluch out my st170 the dmf seems fine I've done wat u did with marking it it only turns past 3 teeth if that?? Also the front plate ther isn't really any play just little movements wat u think thanks steve I've subscribed and liked
Hy. Nice work. I need some help. Please tell me what that vaccum dose ? I've found the vaccum line down to the egr broken and I don't know for how long it wose like that. Or wen suppose to work ? Because I don't feel vaccum at all on the line. Thank you in advance
Hi.... my astra cdti 1.9 120bhp was having problems starting..[ seemed like battery was draining ] so took it to garage about start up issue... they said my flywheel is knackered and is to blame .... car when started drived fine ... once got it back from garage can hear a big banging noice and clutch is now crunching .... took it back and he said it's the flywheel ... seems odd all this happened after they looked at it or just a coincidence..... can a bad flywheel stop car from starting
Greetings, thanks for the video! MK6 DSG GTI, intermittent issue hope you can help. Reverse gear won't engage, this maybe happens once every 400 miles. This has been ongoing for the past couple months. When it happens I turn the car off and back on and reverse works again no problem. Yesterday I found a pool of oil under the car. It's all over my pendulum mount. Pretty sure it's the main seal. I bought new upgraded clutch packs to hopefully solve the reverse issue and a main seal upgraded part. Should I expect a flywheel replacement too? The car has 130k miles on it. Anybody?
these flywheels are a disaster, constantly failing and the car owner pays out again and again, i replace with single mass flywheels and i have never had a fail with any of them.
weld it ..... make a few shims .... that fit between the two parts and weld it together .... have welds at even spaces ....done this a couple of times ... toyota alteeza and porshe cayanne ... dual mess are not nesarse ary
I have a 02 Maxima with 238,000 miles and it seems as if the DMF springs have weakened to the point where taking off from a dead stop feels horrible. has that worn engine mount feeling. I installed energy suspension polyurethane mount bushings so now I'm suspecting that its the DMF. what do you think?
samuel lopes yeap, i give you 85%, that it is DMF, what is making that noise. My expierence with Volvo V70 - sound was like something want to come out from engine :D
Nice simple video, explained well, shame these things are so expensive to replace.
Come on it really isnt that expensive, theres a ton more stuff thats expensive compared to this
@@iplaybose for hybrid golf ~3000€ with crankseal replacement
Thank you very much for this Oskars.

Now , I understand free play of dual massage, gold information , thank you very much
This is a good video just to demonstrate the way to measure not having ever seen one before. Also for mentioning the amount of tolerance allowed.
Thanks for this, I haven't done a lot of work on modern cars and have been given a clutch job on a car with a DMF and didn't know how to measure this. I'll be checking this tomorrow!

Actually doing it is the key. That’s where you gain the experience and knowledge. Knowledge is POWER.
Thank you for the information Sir. Time to brake out the Miller and make a duel mass a single mass.

Well done a good explanation on how to understand the dual mass flywheel
Great simple explanation. I really appreciate you taking the time, more people need to see videos like this… that simply get to the point and give you the data needed to complete the task! Thankyou!

Thank you maestro.
Roar Oskars. Good info, since I have problems with the DMF on my 1990 ZR-1. Mechanics recommend changing it to a solid?
Thanks for the video. You deserve more views !!

Congratulations already subscribed here.
Thank you, I have exact same flywheel
What car?
DMF bad, SMF good.. that's all you need to know. Replaced mine with a Southbend stage 2 endurance smf clutch kit.
Just wait for cracked crankshaft :D DMF is not there without reason. And - sometimes there is no conversion kit for some cars.
Great video...Very helpful.
good video man. good info.
Thank you for the video. Is the tolerance problem maintainable?
Thank you, very helpful. I am curious about changing my 2006 BMW Z4 3.0si flywheel from a dual mass to a solid flywheel. I have seen comments that it can impact drivability negatively. Any comments on that aspect?

Hi Oskar hope you ate fine, can I ask where about your garage please really nice video, or garage name

verry good video :)
Can you make a video with the dsg 7 (dq 200) flywheel?
Paldies, man gandrīz ir noņemts Dual mass spararats no Renault Traffic 1.6L 2017 gads, jau bojāts, smieklīgs ražotājs.
Very good
how long does a fly wheel usually lasts? & do you have to change it when replacing the clutch
Usually one flywheel goes for 2 clutches. But you always have to check that dmf
LUK tells bullshit.. they don´t even last one clutch plate
Thank you Oscars.
these flywheels are a disaster, constantly failing and the car owner pays out again and again, i replace with single mass flywheels and i have never had a fail with any of them.

hi all , i got land rover discovery td5 and got very heavy clucth and some shaking at clucth pedal , is it dmf failure ?
