No need to remove any subframe bolts, or tie rod end bolts or anything to do with steering rack. Jst remove the drive flanges on the differential and you have enough room to get the gearbox out.

The reason they start to rattle is due to the grease drying out. They are designed to fail so the manufactures make loads more money.

What torque spec did you use for the flywheel bolts? Thanks for the vid!
It's been a few years, but I recollect somewhere in the 80-90nm range + 90°. Cursory factory service manual search didn't bring up a spec, but I believe the flywheel included the needed information. Thanks for asking!

@@justinmiles977 Welcome 🙂 I'd say whatever tightness you pick, definitely do the 90° turn in a cross pattern.
FYI - The bare feet is exactly how I tackle jobs too! Flip flops at most!

how many mileage did ur car have when u replaced the flywheel and did u also replace the pilot bearing?
I believe it was in the 58-60k range...surprising I know. Pilot bearing was not replaced.
@@Alexplained Ok, did u replace the subframe bolts or did u reuse them?
@@LinusF_ Bolts were replaced (and added inserts) at a later date. Definitely needed as it usually affects alignment.

what were the symptoms of the DMF failure?
For me, it was just the rattle (loud on a cold start, quieter at operating temperature)...possibly slight hesitation when shifting from 1st to 2nd gear.
Exactly the same, just moved to the boonies. Check engine light came on as the tranny started slipping above 2k randomly. Had to switch back to my 350z after another thermostat on that, already had a rear main seal leak. Figure now I'll just do both. Noise was there for a while but I couldn't figure out the source.

Pretty sure it's factory. Not replaced under my ownership. Best of luck 🤞
@@Alexplained It looks like a euro aftermarket I had found that has a chainmail outer layer as compared to a braided one. Supposedly longer lasting. I was hoping you had replaced it and knew where to find one. Thanks for the reply!

When my car downshifts you can hear a clank sound would that also be a symptom of a failing flywheel for the dsg?
May be a motor mount. Especially if it also happens if you hit the throttle hard. Not saying that it is for sure but I would check that first.
