I love how Dad did not deny Darwin's feeling about being scared, but gently encouraged him to try a bit more. That is huge for a developing little boy. Great work, Dad!

I can’t tell you how much I enjoy these videos. They feel like the old videos because you’re back on the water, with a crew, adventuring to new places. But they feel new because of the filming, editing, the kids (I mean c’mon - their personalities are everything), and just the wealth of knowledge you have as sailors. Hats off to SLV - I’ve loved following along on your journey!

Lived on Okinawa for first and second grade….best memories of my childhood…exploring hilltown villages still full of elders suspicious of white Americans, active whale stations, silkworm factories, memorials from the war, geishas in downtown areas, spending night with native woman eating authentic food sleeping on tatami mats, visiting glass blowing factories….my father was military and we had a lot of freedom as little kids to go out and about on buses even alone…it was safe. I was happy there.

Physician here: realize you have likely already dealt with the rib pain. You may have something as simple as a disarticulated rib which can be fixed with manual manipulation. Best wishes in dealing with this issue.

    • @tbusch63
      @tbusch63 4 місяці тому +10

You are correct. The only way to tell is with X rays. Anyway you look at it, both are painful as all hell. If she is lucky? It will just be a rib, popped out of place! Get an adjustment and feel better in a couple of days! If it is cracked ribs? Bloody F'n painful for up to a couple of weeks, depending on if Elayna can bring herself to NOT pickup her boys. They can sit on mommy's lap. But they must be careful of mommy's ribs! Cracked ribs SUCK! I speak from multiple experiences with them! I hate it when you feel someone stabs you with a knife in the ribs if you take too big of a breath in! So, No lifting and small breaths Elayna! Minimum one week. Or they will never get healed up. Wrapping your ribs really doesn't help! Only recovery? Time, taking it easy for a week or two. You can still do easy leg exercises. Just don't make yourself breathe too deeply! Believe me, YOU WILL KNOW, when you have done wrong!!! The pain will slow you down! Heal quickly young lady! Wish you all safe sailing ⛵️! Until next episode! Riley, you lost your biggest helper for at least a week, mate! Take care of her!!👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

i had a couple of broken and bruised ribs... what she is discribing sounds more like a rib where the soft tissue connecting the rib to the sternum ripped ... had that once and it is the most anoying and painful/uncompfortable thing ever.
... pain goes down kind of gradualy and its not as bad as laughing with a bruised rib... but it takes for ever until it is stable again.
... just, well, you learn to not move in ways that moves the rib and cut back on a lot of fun things and eventually it will disappear.
whish you all the best... be carefull with skiing and don't go snowboarding... getting up from your bumm will hurt a lot when contracting your abs.

It’s always a treat to hear the stories the boys tell and watch the great rescue of the flying fish. It made me laugh when Darwin kept smelling the fish! You are raising the boys in the best possible way. My parents moved to Venezuela when I was three and we returned to Canada when I was seven. I still have wonderful memories of that time. Just think of the stories and memories your boys will have as adults. Hope you heal quickly Elayna.

Only people who do nothing, never make mistakes or get injured. When you are living an adventurous and active life, mistakes such as dropped ropes and injuries will be inevitable. You just do your best to minimize risks and make the best decisions you can at each moment with the information you have available to you or what you have to work with. A full and busy life with young children means you are pulled often in different directions and that's without sailing a majestic vessel at the same time.
Love the video guys, Godspeed and God bless you and yours always.

Even the MERE sensation of a developing cough/sneeze while recovering from broken ribs is, in itself, enough to ignite TERRIFYING PTSD. I know. I'm currently recovering from 3 broken ribs -- 6 weeks in and still instinctively, immediately hand-bracing my injured ribs upon such occurrences. Blessings to you for a successful recovery.

What an amazing sail and incredible journey! So happy for you all! Hope Riley saw my comment about his Thyroid on your last post- thyroid issue are no joke!
And Elayna your ribs symptoms sound broken to me- just an EMT here but I’ve had that before myself- also looked like a classic sign as you laid on your back and that area was protruding a bit, mine did the same, I hope not and hope I’m wrong but it can take up to 6 weeks to heal! Hopefully with pain meds and rest you’re better to sail in a cpl weeks!!!
RILEY- get your TSH & T3/4 levels checked!! lol!! Ok- enough of nurse Nancy.. 😂..thanks for sharing and hope you can have a great time while there!

I lost my life partner on 29-7-24 he introduced me to sailing la vagabond ,so now that his passed on I feel close to him, when ever I watch your show , and he taught me not to be afraid of the ocean, the first time I experienced swimming in the ocean was with him and 3 years ago we went to Zanzibar and I swam with dolphins and snorkeled at its like a beautiful garden under water, so please continue making and educate us because there's so much beauty in what you teach us ,

Thank you Sailing Vagabonde team for such a great video. I love it that even in your extraordinary adventures you remain level headed. I am thrilled that you are experiencing the Japanese hospitality. Sorry for the waste of food though. And really sorry for the broken ribs. It will heal. Don’t make Elay laugh too much. Apparently it’s the worst feeling. Kudos for the videos!

Hey Riley...not sure if you can turn the regen off and stop the props from spinning but if you can then consider doing that first before you take down sails that may be dropped in the water. That way the prop won't grab your ball of string and it won't be so painful. :)
