The book is actually pretty good, if you can get your hands on it. It has a lot better build up and the mystery felt a whole lot deeper. I enjoyed it but it's been a long long time since I've read it. It was like the movie. It was full of gore, it had the sex (granted the actual sex is like. a paragraph? at most. but sex is a big theme like in the movie), it was dark. It's listed as a crime thriller fiction.

I've seen so many people wishing for a 2D animated, graphic Warriors movie. Claudandius dies in the exact same way as Tigerstar. I promise you all, that's not what you want.
I've seen this movie a couple of times and that's the scene that ALWAYS gets me.
As someone who lives in europe, I've grown up watching shows like "The Animals Of Farthing Wood", which contains some slight gore and also has the kind of same "raw reality feel" to it as Felidae and especially Watership Down. I'm usually not squeamish around gore (not trying to sound edgy, that's just how I feel about it personally ) but this movie made me feel really sick the first time I watched it. And as you said at 12:50 Tennelle, I also appreciate it's existance, but once I watch it again, I (too) kind of regret it. :') I think this movie is a good example of how not to implement gore in movies and to show how far is TOO far.

Oh. I actually thought they pulled it off well, of course, for an older audience. I didn't really have much of a problem with the scene, but it was very surprising to me. I've got to say, I do still want this kind of thing for the Warriors movie, but that's frankly not what we're going to get. Not everyone can handle gore like that, so to get more viewings they'll have to censor it, at least a little.
I watched this movie in the 6th grade and wasn't bothered by it...

I loved Watership Down and last year they played it on ITV on Easter. HOOOOO BOOYYYYY was that a fun experience. XD

I remember watching Felidae on UA-cam when I was about 13(it was separated into parts). It was so horrifying but I couldn't stop watching! The same thing kinda happened to me with Watership Down, but I was around 10 years old and my little sister picked out a Blockbuster movie with rabbits on it. We thought it would be a cutesy bunny film, but we were wrooooong. And yet, I wasn't scared of WSD, I liked it and rewatched it for as long as we had it rented.

I think it's because Watership Down is not really much worse than a lot of nature documentaries; it has a naturally realistic amount of violence (except for whatever's going on with Efrafa), but Felidae is a gore horror. Cats do not do the things that these cats do.
Spotted Hyena That's very true. I didn't think of that! I also think that Watership Down also had impactful morals in the film. A hell of a lot more than in Felidae.

I went to Catholic school so I was forced to watch The Passion every Easter from a disturbingly young age.
When I saw Felidae I was sad for a while but not traumatized.
You can't disturb what's already disturbed.
Warrior Cats should be on a Watership Down level of violence at most. Definitely not a Felidae.
Fun fact, Felidae is actually part of a German subgenre of "Krimi" (meaning crime story) called a Tierkrimi. (Tier= animal) Felidae is slightly different from a lot of other Tierkrimis, as most involve an animal solving the murder of a human (one of my favs is a flock of sheep solving the murder of their shepherd). It's a really fascinating subgenre of crime stories. (but it's not intended as a genre for kids).
Felidae is also the most expensive animated movie to date to be created in Germany. (I think it was approx. 10 million marks?).
Also, the author of the Felidae novel is...kinda...I'll just say he's not my kind of person.

Fun fact, Felidae actually did quite well for its time, Europeans and Germany especially with this was quite successful, especially for the books being popular by Akif being the author at the time, especially because the books kept going till 2012 ^-^ The original book was far more descriptive and was an adult book series that in fact OLDER teens could read. This movie was release on 1994, first released on 1989, thus it was slightly based off of the Nazi's with many of which Aryan race for the first book, however later books have different mysteries, this being the only one I believe have been settled with this much sex! I did quite enjoy this movie and watched it.. more than I'd like to admit, however in my opinion, Claudantus/Pascal had the best voice actor otherthan the dream 'Felidae' cat. Being able to understand and speak german, listening to the German with English subtitles to better understand it, it did feel better and if you get to watch it again on the German because it fits ^3^ Hope you like this information, and if you have other questions on it, I do know a lot of information on this!

I've been meaning to rewatch Felidae!! I haven't seen it in a few years but I think I was 9 or 10 when I first saw it. I absolutely adored it... I was kind of a messed up kid lol. But I can't wait to watch it again

Houndb00m - same Watership is my all time fave but I love this and the plague dogs. Although the ending of plague dogs kind of confused me.
yeah the ending of the plague dogs is kinda confusing, in the original book it probably has more explanation on whats happening. I haven't read it though I've only watched the movie

Chartay oooh do they find humans on the island in the book? Since I've only seen the movie I'm not sure what the true ending is.
In the book they're rescued by a ship, and then Snitter's owner (that was alive the whole movie and was just in the hospital) take them as pets since they didn't had any sickness

I honestly like warrior cats because it reminds me so much of Felidae. (Naturally I like the franchise for other reasons but Felidae was what started my liking)

I first found it when I was around 10 and was looking through youtube. Saw cats, was curious, watched it. I came out of it thinking, "That was really creepy and horrific... what did I just see? But it was actually really cool and interesting!"

Moon Light i've seen some clips, and it only mildly frightens me, and i'm not trying to be edgy, but i liked the concept, but it could have been executed without all the gore and sex, but i don't mind.

Into the Wild was released just nine years after this film came out, and I have always had trouble believing that the Erins were not at least partially inspired while writing.
Saddest part of Plague Dogs for me was when The Todd was ripped apart.
Felidae is actually one of my favorite and I am so happy to see you guys talk about it. I actually found it sometime between last year and the year before that when I was twelve or eleven (I honestly can't remember). I was into animashes at the time so I found a lot of other good movies from them including this one and a few others that I hadn't heard of.

Well, I watched Felidae when I was 5 or 6, because my uncle said that he had this cat movie. So he put the VHS in, left the room and let me watch it alone xD
I was shocked at first because I thought that was going to be a cute movie.
But I also actually enjoyed it back then :) And I still love this movie and watched it many times now!
I am also proud that my country produced such a great film! Sadly there aren't any animated movies in Germany anymore (and if there were any.. they wouldn't be that good I think). There are some other good 2D animtaded movies from Germany :) like “Der kleene Punker“, “Ottos Ottifanten“ or “Das kleine Arschloch“ ..yeah, all by the same Director xD

I watched Felidae as a child and I loved it, still my favourite movie. After I first saw it, I went on a gmod cinema server, played it and watched it with someone! 3 different times!!
yeah, Felidae is pretty dark even for us Germans, it is counted as a really dark movie. Yes it is more accepted over her but still it was, pretty damn dark. In defense I think it was an awesome movie though, even though I watched it when I was about 12. I guess Im kinda used to dark stories since I grew up with the original Grim Tales and Struppelpeter (Wich is VERY dark, but I grew up with it) so I guess it didnt affect me that much. I also prefer the actual German dub, IDK the english one just isnt as precise and doesnt have the hissing the german language does and yeah, the pacing. Overall I really love this movie even though its really dark and gorey.
I also dont think either that a warriors movie would be as dark, alone since the plot of Felidae is darker and based around this murder mystery and horror.

Okay, this movie is dark but I love it.
Like the story is very well done. And you gotta appreciate the animation and how it’s done.
And it’s really well written, and well directed, specifically designed to unsettle you and it does that. It does it perfectly.

I remember first watching Felidae when I was in 8th grade and I knew NOTHING and this movie opened my eyes to unseen horrors. I was no longer innocent after watching this movie and it caught me so off guard and I still remember being super uncomfortable watching it. However I can go and re-watch it now and not be completely uncomfortable and find it somewhat good.

I don't know why, but I got really surprised when I heard you say how you found Felidae. Because I found It the exact same way, probably. In middle school, exploring the wonders of UA-cam. I watch a ton of Warriors stuff, so I guess UA-cam thought, "Hey, I bet she would like this movie if she likes the gruesome world of Warriors!" It came up on my suggested videos list, and looked interesting, And so I watched half of it. Never got to finish, and now I never WANT to. Why? I've seen another review on this movie, and saw some scenes from it that I hadn't before, and thought, "Oh GOD no!!!!" I Definitely don't suggest this for people who can't handle horror.... and you know what. Lovely way to make the cats look, great Animation, but too gruesome....

Loved, every part, of that movie. Yes, you have made my day just by talking about it. I loved all the gore and the characters to me were just amazing. The sex, um, unsure about that. But I loved how at the end it all came together, I love it when films do that :D

I was very excited to see that you two did a review on this movie, as it actually is one of my favorites due to it psychological nature. Granted, I could of gone without the awkward cat sex, but the film overall has very intriguing characters and the quality is spectacular given when it was made. I also just find Shawn's reaction to this very amusing considering I first saw this when I was around 14 and was not nearly as shaken up about it as he was.
This is an Awesome Movie and I ABSOLUTELY loved it!
I've seen Felidae a few times, and I've been able to sleep soundly without being hit with nightmares. I like the film, its a very good film and the art direction is very well done. I think it should be given at least one watch, however it takes a special stomach to handle it.

Northflower OwO In the movie, Pascal/Claudandus wanted a pure race of cats, which reflexed the Egyptian cats. So he murdered cats who got in his way of this pure race

I found it at 3am while lying awake in bed while in grade 9, I've watched it a few times since. As for Plague dogs, that was a walk in the park compared to Felidae XD

I really like felidae in my, this is just my opinion but I thought it wasn't dark at all. At the last scene it was kinda like tigerstar vs scourge, but I have to say all of the dead bodies that really got me. But,The only thing I didn't like was the cat sex...
Felidae is one of my favorite films I've seen it quite a few times and each time I find more little details I missed in my last viewing. I'd love to see you do a proper, scripted review of Felidae like you did with Dover Boys.
I had much the same experience where I found the entirety on UA-cam and being young I figured I'd watch it.
My memories of it are very different than how the movie actually takes place, so when I researched it it was a whole new experience.
I don't think I got to the end when I initially watched it, but I know I got to at least the kittens...
