This looks great (like I needed another great game this year!)
Positives: first half very strong Coimbra feels, and the rest classic Kordonskiy. Everything seems to come together very nicely.
Potential negatives: length and potential AP.
Regarding Nova Roma (my current favorite of his), you really need to play it, unique action selection and the rest has Trajan feels.

I’ve had my eye on this and you make it sound very enticing - an epic game that keeps you engaged with options and little conflict sounds great! Now I need to check out the run through…

There's a another game that does that really well -- the "i need one more thing", trade resources, pull off combos, play a card, spend a coin and do it in a creative fun way. Shipwrights of the North Sea Redux. And bonus.. it's a light game that plays fast.

    1. Thumbs up for sharing multi and solo gameplays. Love it.
    2. I am focusing on runthroughs not on final thoughts but still I am curious what you think. I do not want to spend my time listening mechanisms review after I watch runthrough. I respect that you do it and I konw the reasons. Is there a chance that you put on a screen discovered pros and cons (or in descriptions) or spend last 5 minutes talking about your thoughts without review of mechanisms?

these days i'm trying to do everything i can to make recording stuff less stressful for me, so i'm afraid doing a lot of editing of on screen summaries and such wouldn't work. BUT here's a simple solution for you: head over to youtubetranscript.com, paste in the URL for the video, and then click "copy entire transcript". then go over to claude.ai and paste the transcript in, and you can then ask for any info you want. "what are his favourite things?" "what did he have a problem with?" "what are the top 5 takeaways?" "why should i not buy this game?" "give me a pros and cons list" etc. :)
i do this for youtube videos all the time now a days and it's awesome. presumably youtube will eventually work functionality like this into their site, but in the meantime, it works wonderfully!

Big Stan fan here! Played Nova Roma for the first time last weekend at 3, euro of the year so far for me, my advice to you is, do not under any circumstances play it, you will hate it. The 2 player variant is incredibly attacking, you basically take your turn for yourself then another turn to purely screw your opponent, its incredibly attacking!
Excited for this one, looks like a pretty heavy game, but I can see notes of Nova Roma, Endless Winter and Rurik, looks phenomenal, ty for the run through, The first Tsar also looks amazing, Stan is on fire!

Sounds like the perfect game for the wife and I. Can't wait! Love most of Stan's games (minus Nova Roma due to the 2p rules).

Do you get to do everything you want? or most of it? Cause this is a problem. Games should feel tight enough that you dont get to do everything thus making you strategize more and focus on what to do and what to leave.

i have heard some folks point this out as an issue with the game, and i've certainly seen it happen with other games from the designer. we didn't see it happen in our time with it, but maybe we just hadn't mastered it yet

I feel that when games try to achieve that, more often than not it ends up being a game where you learn that so many actions except for 2 aren't worth doing because those 2 are the more efficent options. Much better to have a game that has less options but there are good interactions going on between those options, and figuring out how best make things work and get better at it over multiple plays. No one in this hobby has just one or two games. You don't need to have all the things in one game. That's what other games are for. Going too big they can at times become a ''jack of all trades but master of none" type of game.
