  • We are glad to introduce our brand new self-built camper. After hard work and long hours, we are happy with the result. This van gives great travel autonomy along with luxury chalet comfort. This is our first built and we are not professionals, and just figure out things as we go.
    Designed for all possible activities and adventures. Luck of windows on the sides makes it convenient city apartment but primary it was designed for traveling and adventure lifestyle. It has a huge amount of storage for your gear (it can even fit a full-size bicycle on the back in the trunk). You can be autonomous for several weeks (or till your next grocery shopping).
    It’s basically a mini studio apartment where you have a 140 cm large bed. Second bed is the sofa which is about 63cm wide.
    50cmx110cm openable desk and huge cooking area.
    Van is designed for an option of making a passage to the front seats (in case they will be changed). It can be easily modified to carry surfboards inside of the van, so you don’t have any expensive gear exposed outside.
    It took us around 2 months to complete this project and we can definitely say that it was a great experience for us.
    TECHNICAL DETAILS:
    Freshwater: 60 Liters under the sink (2x30L tanks with quick release connection). There is enough storage space to double up your water capacity.
    Grey water: 60 Liters tank is installed under the van with easy discharge handle.
    Hot water: the system is not installed on this model of the van.
    Shower: integrated into the furniture on the entrance with 100% waterproof epoxy pain. Same space is used also for the toilet. By integrating shower and toilet you have a lot of free space in the van and it feels much bigger and more spacious. You can also use the shower hose straight outside of the van to wash your feet or rinse your gear from salt or dirt.
    Heating: Eberspacher Airtronic D2 heater is installed onboard along with complete isolation of the van prior to build. Consuming from 100 to 280 ml of Diesel per hour.
    Solar Panels: 2 x140W NDS solar panels with a digital manager with a possibility to charge up to 20AH.
    Batteries: 2x100aH NDS Gel batteries
    Battery management: You can fully control your batteries from NDS iManager onboard.
    220V: 600 W inverter is onboard so you can charge all your gadgets and computers.
    Fridge: 29 Liters Mobicool fridge which runs from 12V.
    Water pump: Fiamma aqua 8
    Kitchen stove and tap from Dometic MO 9722L and TAP AC 539
    Trunk size: 140cm large x 200cm x 130 cm high approximately. The trunk is heated from the heating system.
    Lights: 2 LED stripes and 5 led lamps to create a strong daylight (great for cooking or for work).
    Safe box: attached to the van with 4 metal screws which are only removable from inside of the safe box. Gives you a piece of mind when you leave your van with your valuables.
    Gas: 5 liters from Campingaz so you can change it everywhere in Europe.
    Shoe cupboard: can fit up to 12 pairs of shoes.
    Windows: only on the ceiling of the van. 1x 40x40cm with ventilator and 1 x 50x50cm above the bed.
    WEIGHT: 3130 kg with 90 liters of water, full fuel tank and everything inside.
    CAR DETAILS:
    Car Model: Citroen Jumper L3H3 which is 599 cm long and about 225 cm high inside of the van. Why this model? Because Fiat Ducato, Citroen Jumper, and Peugeot Boxer are the largest vehicles compare to other brands

    I like the way that you have gone about finishing things and making sure that things are solid. I would follow a lot of the steps that you guys have applied here, a lot of safety factors have been, a lot of thought has taken place with what products to use and how to finish off for neatness. A good lesson for "if it is worth doing, it is worth doing well."

      That might be a very romantic thing, but it’s not very practical! I would love fireplace, but it’s only an idea for Iceland or Norway trip where you can sty wild and no one cares.
      We were thinking at the beginning about this, but then we decided to spend more money and install a real heater.

    37:54 so you did screw solar panels to the roof? How are those panels performing for you so far?

    • @ExplorationBrothers
      @ExplorationBrothers  6 років тому +14

      No screws on solar panel, only tape and it’s extra strong and I think we might spend an hour to remove panels without damaging them.
      Panels are performing well when it’s sunny, but unfortunately during winter months its not ideal, as you might have too many rainy days. But is you are driving, they are charged by alternator (our gives around 40A per hour)
      Panels gave us maximum 17A until now.
      In sunny days our batteries 100% charged with fridge and 2 laptops running all day.

    • @HardIsEasy
      @HardIsEasy 6 років тому +5

      And you have 2x140W solar? Btw thanks for answers and nice video! We're about to make our own van so learned a lot!
      17A is not that bad considering your panels rated for 20A

    Dear gentlemen,
    After seeing your work & given your lack of experience in this field, it's quite remarkable what you've achieved considering the rudimentary tools & conditions in which you did all of the van's transformation. You attention to details, your calculated approach to doing all of this work is nothing short of spectacular. Under the circumstances, I think it's only fair to say you've done yourselves very proud & to boot a van that will do justice by your labour. Very well executed. Kind regards. N.B: I've subscribed.

      Amazing idea! You earned at least 10 points! We haven’t done it unfortunately((
      I guess at some point we will need to remove old silicons, remove the cables and put the rubber exactly like you suggested.
      I realize now that the whole van is negative, then you might have a shortcut if this will happen with a positive cable from solar panel!

    You guys did a good job. Thumbs up. Heavy materials, though.

    • @ExplorationBrothers
      @ExplorationBrothers  6 років тому +1

      We call it solid! 😊 Some of the wood we could get thinner, for example top cupboards and maybe some elements of kitchen and the table but it would be harder to use pocket hole jig.
      We are quite happy with bed and sofa structure as it’s really strong and not making any cracks or weird sounds. Wooden panels for wall and ceiling are 1 cm thick, you can’t really go thinker that that.

      Fair 'nuff, thanks for the reply. I did sort of wonder at your use of pocket holes. Why did you prefer those over brackets?

    beautiful result - congratulations
    i would consider myself as a semi pro when it comes to build a camper and a pro when it comes to live within. I really like your job but there is a major failure in this design. between the insulation and the wood panels you really should recommend and install an air prove vapor barrier foil to avoid condensation water in the insulation layer. i'm afraid in wintertime your insulation will absorb the humidity and store it there for a long time which WILL cause rust at the metal parts and fungal infestation on the wooden boards.
    I was living in a metal shelter without the air prove vapor barrier for more then 5 years now, and this is the result of this "little" mistake.
    after finishing your job, the only thing you can do now - make sure the humidity within the van is always as low as possible and air the van out as often as you can.
    all the best

    • @ExplorationBrothers
      @ExplorationBrothers  5 років тому +2

      David,
      This was the best comment regarding insulation. Everyone else is just copy paste from other videos))
      We might slowly add this layer when we use it.
      Paying attention in the winter - yes we will do it.
      Thanks for putting time into the comment as everyone will benefit from it.

    Love the idea! But, having the coconut husk looking thing for filling up spaces for the isolation is not practical, it could cause molds. Anyways, nice build! Maybe after I graduate high school and go to college, Ill try vanlife!

    Nice work guys, one tip for the rear door panelling. Do it first from inside when the van is empty, close the door and put panelling in one piece. Mark the middle and then cut whit circular saw and get the perfect look.
