How Rahmat Pulled Off the Best Training Hall Lift Ever

  • Indonesia's clean and jerk world record holder, Rahmat Erwin Abdullah, hit what can be easily argued as the greatest pre-competition training hall lift ever while preparing to compete in Thailand, April 2024. His 200kg lift is superior when ranked against lifts like Lasha Talakhadze's 255, Karlos Nasar's 220, or even weightlifters like Ilya Ilyin and Lu Xiaojun.

    The Olympics rules are just ridiculous. Just let the best weightlifters battle in the most important competition. I want to see 5 chinese guys in the same weight category, who cares. These rules are made by the western countries just to avoid China winning 300 medals. Rahmat not being in the Olympics is one of the most unfair things that ever happened in the sport.

      no. if china is gonna get 190 191 189 total and win all the time might as well just have the best go so that every other country can also comes to compete. since china is still gonna get first let there be space for other country to enter or even earn some medal

      100% correct Gil and that’s sad. The IWF has to convince the IOC to permit weightlifting at Olympics to more closely resemble weight at IWF comps as far as # of weight classes and # of competitors for each country. The world championships in Dec should more closely resemble the April qualifier.

    I’m so looking forward to the worlds in dec. Rahmat is now lifting 81 as I understand. As a full 81 165-215 is possible imo. He will beat the NK Ri and Rizki as well in that case. Seb you are correct about the 180 power clean. He actually catches it an inch or 2 above parallel. Shi’s 190 from 2019 worlds while extraordinary and unexpected (crowd actually gasps!) was extremely difficult. Remember Rahmat “That which does not kill me makes me stronger “. Let’s see your comeback.

    • @AdStellae-
      @AdStellae- Місяць тому +2

      Shi's 190 power clean was difficult? Have we watched the same thing? He pulls it so high he throat punches himself with the bar, and then eventually catches it in a quarter squat. He's so far above parallel.
      Secondly, that was in competition. There is nothing close to being equivalent to it.
      Edit: He has also done a 190 power clean + power jerk in training as a 69 kg lifter.

    • @JohnDoherty-dl2fz
      @JohnDoherty-dl2fz Місяць тому

      I stand corrected Adstellae. I went back and had another look at. Shi did catch it just as high as the 180 by Rahmat. I guess I misremembered it because because in my mind a guy who power cleans and jerks 190 should be be cl & jerking 205-210 not the 197 (still phenomenal) that is his best.

    • @AdStellae-
      @AdStellae- Місяць тому +4

      @@JohnDoherty-dl2fz The problem (as usual) is that he squat jerks. Shi is good despite squat jerking, not because of it (well, when he was still healthy).
      In another universe he'd be a split jerker and do 205+ in competition.

    • @johnzhao4641

      I hear this explanation about Shi’s cl& jk all the time. I wish someone would explain to me why he was so intent on pushing the snatch record up (3 or 4 records 2018-2021) but not so much in jerk. This is before he got injured. Supposedly 7 or 8 kg under his max. Might be regretting it now.

      @@guimello_silva subjectively i think my 80kg snatch at 58kg bodyweight is better than lasha’s 225kg snatch. i mean i lifted more relative to my bodyweight than he did. that’s an extreme example of course, but that’s why we have the sinclair formula, which we have to treat as objective because this is a sport we made up and not some law of the universe

    • @WeightliftingHouse
      @WeightliftingHouse  Місяць тому +1

      He told me his best ever clean and jerk was 260kg and didn't mention anything about hitting it so many times. He did however say that his best power clean was 240kg which is absolutely absurd. If we include these sorts of lifts where weightlifters are months out from competition then we have to include Rahmat's best which is rumoured to be around the 215kg mark. Btw if you are interested, my interview with Botev is around an hour long and he goes into lots of amazing detail. I'd highly recommend it! It's on the Weightlifting House podcast from a few years ago.

    why he recover only his left leg after standing up in a clean? It makes the bar a little right every time he drops the bar. And his dad has to pull the bar to the center of the lifting platform.
