    I've been a fan of Karina for most of my life. Today she showed up on my campus and gave this speech but in her native language. I'm a Norwegian. I forgot to bring my book that day for her to sign. So she gave me a new book for free and wrote a cute little note to me in it. I was so excited to have met her that during my free period I went and saw her once more. She did her ''talk'' 3 separate times today. I caught her right at the end of her last one. This time it was only two of us that went over after her show to talk to her. I let the other person go before me and waited until she was done. At this point Karina was packing and she recognized me from earlier. We sat down on the stage and talked for about an hour. Sharing life experiences etc. It was truly a dream come true. Her story is so inspirational and saved me once. I am a suicide attempt survivor.

    I was reading some of the posts. I think taking away her career choice (in which she learned the valuable lessons she is speaking of), listen to what she is saying. She is talking about hope. Not losing it. She is talking about despair. About choices and being in charge and not being a product of circumstances but being the master of her circumstances. She is talking about hardships, loss, and perseverance, endurance, and hope.

I know the price of what she spent with her mind and body! STRONG GIRL DEFINITELY ... She left a river in my own eyes!

    Karina, you are by far one of the most inspirational persons I have ever listened to! I have watched this over 20 times and shared it with every single friend of mine. You have actually inspired me to take a risk and follow my dreams, something I had been putting off for a while! Coz as you say "What can possibly go wrong"!! Thanks for sharing your story! You are amazing! Wish you (and your little one) good health and a life full of extraordinary adventures!

    This deserves more views! *applause* She's a very strong woman. Sure, we've heard that message before, but do we keep it in mind?I doubt it. But after watching this, I'm now going to live life to the fullest because our time here is indeed limited. God bless you, Ms. Karina. Live life fearlessly.

    For Sigifredo below : I remember reading this quotation from T E Lawrence's book " Seven Pillars of Wisdom " years ago .
    "All men dream: but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds wake in the day to find that it was vanity: but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act their dreams with open eyes, to make it possible. This I did "
    Just try it

    Her strength is amazing, but she was already a very strong, confident person. Millions of people have learned what she has by using meditation rather than jumping out of a plane & risking their lives & can often articulate what it means better.
    I must admit the way she told her story, kind of bugged me a bit, like she thought what she was saying was so profound, I found her a bit immodest & her message to be about living a big, exciting life, rather than about appreciating just being alive & the natural world & love & respect.

    • @daricknordstrom6718
      @daricknordstrom6718 10 років тому +5

      It is OK that it bugged you a bit, because she is also a bit different from you or from me, like snowflakes. I appreciate that difference because she is able to bring possibility closer to me (and others), to where I am inspired to dare more greatly. Her personality is part of the package, just as your unique sense of wonder and awe that doesn't require the high risk to be felt and moved. I appreciate them both, in their place, and am glad you commented.

    I'll infuse some down to earth medicine into this. We are not born with the expectation of how great we are/can be. It's not like she was born with all the past success/self-discovery she had already achieved and was then placed inside a baby's body and off she went. She was already a strong and willful person by the time the unfortunate accident happened. THAT is what drove her through the trauma to come out the other side. It's a great story, and if it helps at least one person (as I've seen from some comments below) then it's worth it. But I hope she doesn't really believe anyone can pull through a life of fear just from her video. It just goes to show you how important childhood and, let's be honest, genetics are. Not everyone is born the same way. Some are born with more cortisol in the brain and some are not. After that it's how you are raised and what happens to you that determines your outcome.

    My comment on this might sound out of place, but I think this isn't as inspiring as it seems. First of all, she never was and never has been a regular person as she pretends to present herself. The main reason she was and is what she is, and also could overcome her tragedy, is because she is no regular person. She has have since the beginning a trait not many of us have nor can develop... The capacity of DREAM, and through DREAM, the DRIVE to achieve. DREAM is what powers the human race, the only and magical SPARK on every great and small personal or collective accomplishment. It is a great shame, but Real Dreamers are just a few in this world. Also I believe that those Real Dreamers, because of their perspective on life and the world, are unable and don't need to waste their time to relate to the rest of us. Of course, the inability to understand and relate is mutual, that is the reason we tend to label them, Real Dreamers, from weirdos, nerds, geeks, and so on to Dare Devils. But at the end, they are the FUEL of mankind...

      On the other hand when she and her story are viewed it could wake up the Real Dreamer locked away in many of us.

    All these talks are great for most. But for a guy like me, divorced from the woman of his dreams (not my choice), single father, huge debt due to alimony, child support....I'll never be free from bills. I can only barely survive day to day. Choosing a dream? An early death after my kids are grown
