@@Ermz according to the youtube channel gaming tech who does deep dives and comparisons on this stuff its the same graphics and res with 120hz ray trace/resolution mode but just the fps is unlocked and it hits 90+
The problem is that the selection for ray tracing or framerate only applies to replays or menu screens. It doesn't affect gameplay at all, as confirmed by Digital Foundry. Can you link to this video you are referring to? There is a huge and very noticeable hit to resolution in 120fps mode for me and logically I cannot see how else they could double the fps.
My LG G2 runs 4K at 120fps. HDMI 2.1 connected. Tv is set on gaming setting 4k 120fps with vrr. Now you can put GT7 in 120fps with 2 options. 1. Frame rate fixed at 120fps 2. Resolution/ray tracing and then the vrr does the job and keeps de fps between 90 and 120 fps. I prefer option 2. Graphics will not downgrade much. Only on colour depth 4.4.4 croma downsize to 4.2.2.
Find the Game Optimizer that tracks FPS. You are reading the refresh rate, not the FPS. PS5 cannot run GT7 at 4k 120Hz and 120 FPS. It is lucky to hit 60.
As a Nurb and rally enjoyer, it has been great to experience that extra smoothness. Especially after a year of having my 144hz monitor and GT7. The most noticeable differences are the motion blur and resolution, as you said. Though in my opinion it makes up for the extra frames. Also there is a pretty interesting bug I found when using 120hz mode, where if you tap the gas lightly on cars with ALS, a very large flame would appear, i have made 3 showcase videos on my channel. Thank you for the video. 😊
From technical perspective, it's a really impressive game. I also found that the slipstream area changes depending on the wind vector. So if the wind's perpendicular to the vector you and someone in front is moving, it affects the slipstream area the farther back you are from the car in front; you can see the wind effect on the water spray as well - same happens for the slipstream area; the farther you are the more you need to move to the side where the wind is blowing and changing the slipstream area.
That’s very bad for me, i would loved motion blur effect at 120 hz, not only the resolution wouldn’t bensuch a problem, but also it would be SO much more realistic.
@@zx_fra this doesn't have anything to do with motion blur, it has to do with resolution lowered when framerate is prioritized. This was a standard setting prior to 120hz mode, when you run it in framerate and 120 the blur is more prominent. If you leave it at 120 and fidelity mode it's clean and runs really nice.
Just turn on Ray Tracing and 120hz if you don’t like the visuals and the game will run the same visuals as before but with an unlocked frame rate and VRR enabled. This works on my setup although my TV is limited to 1440p at frame rates > 60. Additional benefit is that the parts of the game that use Ray Tracing are no longer capped at 30fps.
Yep, same here except a Samsung not LG. Totally thrilled at the picture, no blurring no pixel problems. Frigging crystal clear and smooth as a baby's butt.
I honestly like 4K with rock solid 60fps and original image quality more than variable framerate with variable resolution and few more new tricks. It seems to me that devs had to use every trick in the book to make the game looks decent with more than 60fps and because of that you expirience way more graphical glitches and just overall worse gaming expirience.

You have to turn ray tracing on in order to match the visual settings in 60 fps. Once you do that the visual quality between 89-100 fps and 60 fps are identical…and both are in 4K. If you turn off ray tracing the game runs at 1080p but a higher frame rate closer to 118fps. On a 4K tv those extra frames arent worth it. The game is awesome at 90-100 fps at 4K
You are both right it runs beautifully. But there's just no way it's the same quality as the 4k 60 mode, beyond even just resolution alone, it's actually impossible for ps5 to do that. The game was optimised for 60, smooth and it still dips on occasion. It's not like clicking the unlock button gives you a free 30fps with same exact settings just because you unlocked it. There's clear visual differences when you start looking closely. But all good for you if it's worth the trade!
Great video, but you forgot about distances, something that is crucial in racing games. Lets say we calculate in meters per second, then for 60 meters per second you go roughly at 216 km/h So at that speed 60Hz you roughly see 1 meter every frame, but at 120Hz at the same speed you should see now 50 centimeters every frame, if your braking point is at 91.5 meters, and your timing is right, you have 2 times more chances to hit your braking point at 120Hz. Now lets say you are travelling at 432 kmh, you are going 120 meters per second, for every frame per second you are travelling one meter at 120Hz, if you are at 60Hz every frame you are seeing the distance going by 2 meters instead, you get the point... More FPS = more precision to judge distances at high speeds, I tested a lot on pc, for me I have trouble seeing above 90Hz either way :p The last thing I would add it's also at more than 90 fps you can turn off Vsync, as your eyes won't be able to register the tearing at such speed ^^ That would be all! Have a nice day!
The 120hz update has been amazing, but have been experiencing intermittent black screens after changing. I also have noticed flickering screens which gets resolved when navigating menus.
I would try with different cables if you have them . It sounds like the cable you are using doesn't quite keep up. Not likely if you are using the included ps5 cable though.
If the black screen only flickers and goes black when changing between modes and opening/closing games, that's just the PS5. For some reason the PS5 doesn't remain in 120hz or VRR mode when not in active use. So when switching between 60hz and 120hz, or VRR and no VRR, you will get a black screen flicker while changing it as the PS5 and display swap modes. If this is happening in gameplay, something is wrong. Something probably can't quite keep up, either your cable or display.

I have an Odyssey G9 monitor and couldn't figure out how to get 120hz activated. Had to buy a powered HDMI to Display Port cable. Did the trick and is way better fps wise, but the graphics aren't amazing up close on my display. However, I have to argue that 120hz is superior. Far too many times the game likes to dip frames in fast cars, at the apex, while sliding. That makes it's really hard to catch the car before it's too late. 120hz vastly improves this. I'll take the pixel graphics off track or at a long distance for smooth images any day of the week.
One thing to add, you don't need a 120hz TV to play in 120fps, not if you have psvr2 you can use the big screen function of psvr2 as it is a 4k 120hz screen. Just make sure you disable 120hz to tv as ps5 can't do both at the same time.
