Bombastic as Asura's Wrath, offense of Revengence, defense of Sekiro, music and presentation of Nier. If the full game can maintain that quality them dammn.
@PBart7 I haven't mentioned Asura's Wrath in forever lol. The opening was so bombastic and I knew it reminded me of something, but it eluded me for a while.
The only thing I didn't like was that on the last boss in the demo, when I died and respawned at the camp, I didn't have the extra healing potions I had bought or found (it only filled the tumbler back up to 3) and re-saved. This meant I couldn't keep trying the boss on Normal because I ran out of money to buy potions, and had to just do it on story difficulty in the end. This seems a bit dumb that the respawn isn't an actual reload at the camp, but rather a retry with any items you used before you died gone. I can see this being a real problem and a major set back if it's like this in the final build.
When I wanted to check to the right side of the map and found that bench and went forward and the game actually rewarded me then when I said "can i jump in this water?" And was able to dive down to the treasure, I was won over. It was even awesome jumping over that one gate to the right before the bridge even though the boxes were empty and no items were there for the demo. I like to search around in my games and it not just be empty filler space.
@ErgoDog may I think part of that is that the voice actors trying to capture an android. We don't really know what range of emotions they have and she clearly gets traumatized early on

Perspective: I’ve been following and anticipating Stella Blade since it was first previewed as Project Eve on Enfant Terrible several years back. My Experience: I went in with high expectations, left thinking the game needed more cooking. 1. I found the initial gameplay when executing moves, especially blocking and parrying to be a little bit laggy. I’m playing on an A95L in Game mode with no other devices in between. 2. I found the initial stages presented, not as much the first stage, but definitely the city stage to be weirdly dim. It was already turned up on my TV, but I eventually had to crank it to full blast in the game itself. 3. Piggybacking off the brightness, resolution wise I found the game wasn’t necessarily sharp per se in Performance or Balance mode during general game play. I’m talking moreso the city stage again. Returnal would be a good comparison of a game that’s dark, but bright enough and crisp. 4. The music was cool, especially that Samba piece at the base which really really jams. But generally I cut the music down a bit during gameplay. I guess the soundtrack so effective my mind kept expecting to hear the next song but it kept repeating lol. Overall I felt it needed more work which could probably happen with updates. I probably will still preorder it before it comes out. For the very best experience imo, Play it with Korean dialogue, it feels like your playing Anime.

The animation length for the healing item felt around the same as using an Estus in Souls-games, or healing in Jedi FO and Survivor - also since you can do this mid-sprint (although the button layout makes it a bit janky, I hate when games bind important things to d-pad) I feel like this isn't really an issue.

I find the nit-pick about healing items to be super weird and off-base. What are you talking about my guy. You can literally sprint during the animation, and you can parry or attack, or even get hit once the animation gets to about the peak of the toss without it being canceled. What do you mean they're slow???
I was initially gonna say the combat isn’t as good as nier but it’s different they managed to strike a balance between heavy block/parry combat and loose hack and slash ….love the enemy design …love the music love the character of course lol this is more than I was expecting will be buying
Strongly agree with the initial clunkiness of the combat system. As someone used to replaying bayonetta and ff16, I was struggling not to rely on the sub-par dodge. When I get the full game my first priority with points will be improving perfect dodge & parry windows 😅 Also imo the korean dub is way better I'd recommend most people go with that for their first playthrough.
Parry what you can dodge what you cant , parry does feel harder in this game than sekiro though but once you get a feel it feel really good i can’t wait for it to drop
The localization of the game has some issues. But Korean pipelines for localizing to english are still quite "new" or under developed. The grammars are off sometimes but I think its 'okay' for now.
Thank you for the well done review that covers the *important* aspects of the game in a mature way. I also pre-ordered based on the demo. It does give me Nier vibes - but with better actual gameplay and Qol design (which was my main downside for Nier). Art design and animation is also a step up, but that’s just to be expected 7 years later… We’ll see if the story is Nier:A level interesting or asks those kinds of questions good sci-fi does. So far the “human civilization vs a bunch of gross monsters” doesn’t lend itself to that setup as much as N:A. *BUT* since the devs said they’re fans of N:A here’s my guess. I’ll ‘spoiler’ tag it even though it’s speculation not a spoiler… . . . . Eve and her squad of supermodels I’m assuming are genetically engineered beings with superhuman physical abilities. Also hence their ‘perfect physiques’ etc. as they are designed much like Blade Runner replicants (maybe with cyborg enhancements). What philosophical questions does that raise? My guess for the ‘deep’ twist… The Naytiba aren’t aliens - they’re the result of our earlier failed attempt to create our perfect beings a la Eve. She’s fighting her own twisted ancestors or ‘siblings’ created by her leaders’ hubris. The designs of the Naytiba looking more like gross demons or resident evil monsters than “aliens” also would make sense for this scenario. Tachy will also return as a Natiba

Great video, Chance. It appears we're both have something to look forward to here. Based on the demo, this game is promising to be something steller. I hope that's true. And I pray it isn't some cinematic, "interactive movie" like several high-budget games are today. If the game has a story to tell, I hope it cleverly tells that story through gameplay instead of overlying on unskippable cutscenes and forced "walking sequences," or something of the sort. Such design often harms replayability and provides no agency or additional challenge, even on harder difficulties. And unlike in Final Fantasy XIII-2, these "interactive movie" moments aren't skippable despite being slow and plentiful. I want to spend a majority of my playthrough playing a game, not watching it. Controversial, I know. Stone me at the Game Awards. I'd like to know your thoughts on Steller Blade once you've experienced the entire package. I would also like to know your opinion on Lies of P, seeing as you're quite familiar with the "Souls genre." Assuming you've played it, what do your thoughts on Lies of P? I see it as a strong successor to Bloodborne, if I was to compare it to other "Souls games."
FF13's hallway design let me focus 99% of my time on battling and paradigms. Once I got to the open-world part, I was annoyed at having to spend an hour re-tracing my steps through 15 random (forced) encounters underground just to get an item or C'eith I missed, or trying to get from A to B just for a random enemy to fly upon you and stop you. I appreciated the hallways more once I got to the open stuff.

Everything so far seems good and I definitely do think it's going to be a great game and that winds in the cinematics to the gameplay very well and definitely be a gameplay focused game. So, I'm a big Fromsoft fan and I've played and beaten all of their games, some several times over, and played a lot of the souls-like games as well like Nioh 2 and Code Vein. But I haven't played Lies of P yet! If you see it as a successor to Bloodborne, which is high praise, I think I'll have to try it out!
It's funny I don't see any design of 2B in her. Clothes, bodyshape, movement are very different. I can definitely see a resemblance to bayonetta though. Excluding the ridiculous long legs of bayonetta 😂
The mechanical and monster design is pretty unique and cool. I think its a little odd that the T&A is so front and center, but its fine. Music is always a big deal for me, so im glad they did a good job with it. Video quality was great, but I noticed some hitching for some reason. Even accounting for this some of the animations in the game feel strange to me, but I can't really describe why.
This game started as being kind of cheesecake, with the hot protagonist, but mostly that's all everyone thought it was. Then we got more info, and it looked more promising, when we saw there were skill trees, etc. Then we got the demo... and yeah, this game looks amazing.

Yeah, I noticed a bit of lag myself, and had some trouble learning the timing of blocks and dodges. But after some practice I got better. I'm not too worried about it, since all the incoming attacks have tells, and you just have to learn when to press the button.
I said the same thing, I thought it was just me, especially on the blocking and parrying. Conceptually everything looks good, but it’s not ready to be served yet. Hopefully the dev’s will get the lag squared away before launch.
Didn't and still don't care for the fan service at all... but holy smokes that combat is so freaking awsome and satisfying!!! Love it so much already! Can't wait for the full game! ❤
I do think the game is good but no "Nier" for me, i was hyped in the trailers but after the demo it just looked like more of a Souls like than Near, at least for now the only "Nier" things for me is the scenery and robots, the combat reminded me a lot of Sekiro and Lies of P in some parts while Nier is free and let you combo freely, Stellar Blade is not bad but when i think of Nier inspired game i think on Aikode, but i hope Stellar Blade gets me hyped again
It's good so far, but as of right now it's only shown a good vertical slice at a thing nier was only "good" at imo. And is not as good as say DMC5 (nier wasn't either too be clear). The story, themes, music, and variety have a lot to prove as those were the things that made Nier unique and one of my favorite games. With that said, it looks to be atleast a good game. And if it's not as good as nier it's still a success.
Next Nier? No. I dont think so. It'll be like the next Sekiro or Bayonetta but i dont think the game will go anywhere near the same direction Nier Automata did. It seems like it'll be more of a standard action game, imo. A very awesome action game. The demo was amazing, but i think Nier veers off to become its own thing that is unmatched by any other game in the genre.
It's not the next Nier. It's on a completely different level. It actually has a really well written story unlike the dumpster fire that is Drakengard/Nier.
I enjoyed the demo but I could tell this is no Nier. Just because Eve is sexy like 2B it doesn’t mean this will share anything in common. Maybe I’ll be wrong but I don’t think its story will be anywhere near as good as Yoko Taro’s games.
I find the comparisons to nier and sekiro are damaging. Its art style tone and setting are different to nier. It's combat is different to sekiro. It is not copying either game. I feel people need to start calling it what it is. An action rpg. Comparison is the thief of joy. Play it judge it for what it's own aims are. From what I gather the aims are for the player to play as an attractive character in a cinematic action rpg with challenging combat (not difficult combat).
I loved the demo, the combat is great and the visuals very nice. The music was shit tho, like an asian elevator soundtrack. I turned it off and I had a dark souls kind of experience, only audio is your surroundings and your actions. Cool

It was either getting left behind or Shift Up cancelling Project Eve / Stellar Blade for everyone until PlayStation stepped up to fund it That being said with the "no exaggerated female proportions" box is mandating for all studios to be more "inclusive" doubt many similar projects will even launch on it
I only played Nier for the first time recently because Stellar Blade keeps getting compared to it. Nier was OK at best and after playing the Stellar Blade demo...I felt that even that demo was WAY better than the entire Nier Game!! Stellar Blade is going to be at least 10,000 times better than Nier...and I'm not even exagerating.
If you're saying it was mid then than you've only played the first playthrough. You have to get to playthrough 3 to see what Nier is really about, it's essentially a whole other game
Hopefully is more Sekiro than lies of p. But it is giving me the unbalance parry combat and boring corridor level design of lies of p feeling. I’ll wait for enough reviews to make up my mind.
@@thechance-lore4711 because its annoying & a waste of time. with all the things to watch on youtube, the cardinal sin of content creation is wasting the viewers time. the time spent narrating what can already be seen onscreen could be better spent saying what you think about the game. the entire time you're narrating what the viewer can already see, they could just download the demo for free & play it themselves. the value in your video is telling the audience what YOU think about the video. also, if all the fluff & unnecessary parts of the video were removed... like the parts narrating the scenery & recounting the lore, this video could've been reduced to a concise 5 minutes instead of 12. so what happens is, most people will watch the first minute of your video, see that you're just reading whats happening onscreen & then click away from your video. they won't even watch the other 11 minutes of the video. put valuable information in the first minute of a 5 minute video, more people will watch the entire video & are more likely to subscribe. most people will see the first minute of you narrating & think "wtf is this?" & then just click on another video & won't subscribe. this is how you "git gud" at youtube.

Nar.. Don't get me wrong - I like attractive lead in games I play. Stella blade looks nice but it lacks "character" like 2B. I prob wouldn't recognise this char outside of this game.
This is something I will wait for release to judge. A lot of the iconic characters aren't iconic on release but rather after you have played. The buster sword of ff7 isn't a standout weapon design, however with its success the weapon is now iconic. I do agree there isn't a single eye catching thing to grab on initial impression. Like The red jacket white hair of Dante or the blindfolded flouncy dress of 2B. Maybe it's due to the semi realistic graphics that it becomes harder to make something really standout when it comes closer to reality?

It has bugged me since announcement trailers for this game that everyone focused on eve. I personally found the combat great, the world design and tone is right up my street. I try not to compare games to other games. I play a game and think do I like this. Does it look good to me, does it play good for me, does it sound good etc. There is always something that does something better and judging like that leads to more disappointment than satisfaction. As I've said elsewhere comparison is the thief of joy. It sucks that it's turned out to be a game you dislike, which is fair enough, then you ignore it and move on. Parry what you can dodge what you cant , parry does feel harder in this game than sekiro though but once you get a feel it feel really good i can’t wait for it to drop
Parry in Sekiro was very generous and even when you missed it, you got a guard and could attempt to parry again almost instantly

The localization of the game has some issues. But Korean pipelines for localizing to english are still quite "new" or under developed. The grammars are off sometimes but I think its 'okay' for now.

It does give me Nier vibes - but with better actual gameplay and Qol design (which was my main downside for Nier).
Art design and animation is also a step up, but that’s just to be expected 7 years later…
We’ll see if the story is Nier:A level interesting or asks those kinds of questions good sci-fi does. So far the “human civilization vs a bunch of gross monsters” doesn’t lend itself to that setup as much as N:A. *BUT* since the devs said they’re fans of N:A here’s my guess. Eve and her squad of supermodels I’m assuming are genetically engineered beings with superhuman physical abilities. Also hence their ‘perfect physiques’ etc. as they are designed much like Blade Runner replicants (maybe with cyborg enhancements). What philosophical questions does that raise? My guess for the ‘deep’ twist…
The Naytiba aren’t aliens - they’re the result of our earlier failed attempt to create our perfect beings a la Eve. She’s fighting her own twisted ancestors or ‘siblings’ created by her leaders’ hubris.
The designs of the Naytiba looking more like gross demons or resident evil monsters than “aliens” also would make sense for this scenario. Tachy will also return as a Natiba

And that's a really good assumption on the narrative! I personally think something to that extent is going to be the main premise of the story. Especially, with the main characters being Adam and Eve and the NA-tivas being essentially the "natives" and somewhat demonic looking.
Great video, Chance. It appears we're both have something to look forward to here. Based on the demo, this game is promising to be something steller. I hope that's true. And I pray it isn't some cinematic, "interactive movie" like several high-budget games are today. If the game has a story to tell, I hope it cleverly tells that story through gameplay instead of overlying on unskippable cutscenes and forced "walking sequences," or something of the sort. Such design often harms replayability and provides no agency or additional challenge, even on harder difficulties. And unlike in Final Fantasy XIII-2, these "interactive movie" moments aren't skippable despite being slow and plentiful. I want to spend a majority of my playthrough playing a game, not watching it. Controversial, I know. Stone me at the Game Awards.
I'd like to know your thoughts on Steller Blade once you've experienced the entire package. I would also like to know your opinion on Lies of P, seeing as you're quite familiar with the "Souls genre." Assuming you've played it, what do your thoughts on Lies of P? I see it as a strong successor to Bloodborne, if I was to compare it to other "Souls games."
FF13's hallway design let me focus 99% of my time on battling and paradigms. Once I got to the open-world part, I was annoyed at having to spend an hour re-tracing my steps through 15 random (forced) encounters underground just to get an item or C'eith I missed, or trying to get from A to B just for a random enemy to fly upon you and stop you. I appreciated the hallways more once I got to the open stuff.

So, I'm a big Fromsoft fan and I've played and beaten all of their games, some several times over, and played a lot of the souls-like games as well like Nioh 2 and Code Vein. But I haven't played Lies of P yet! If you see it as a successor to Bloodborne, which is high praise, I think I'll have to try it out!

It's funny I don't see any design of 2B in her. Clothes, bodyshape, movement are very different. I can definitely see a resemblance to bayonetta though. Excluding the ridiculous long legs of bayonetta 😂

I think its a little odd that the T&A is so front and center, but its fine. Music is always a big deal for me, so im glad they did a good job with it.
Video quality was great, but I noticed some hitching for some reason. Even accounting for this some of the animations in the game feel strange to me, but I can't really describe why.

This game started as being kind of cheesecake, with the hot protagonist, but mostly that's all everyone thought it was. Then we got more info, and it looked more promising, when we saw there were skill trees, etc. Then we got the demo... and yeah, this game looks amazing.

Not with 200ms of input delay and non-cancellable attack recovery it isnt.
Yeah, I noticed a bit of lag myself, and had some trouble learning the timing of blocks and dodges. But after some practice I got better. I'm not too worried about it, since all the incoming attacks have tells, and you just have to learn when to press the button.
I said the same thing, I thought it was just me, especially on the blocking and parrying.
Conceptually everything looks good, but it’s not ready to be served yet. Hopefully the dev’s will get the lag squared away before launch.

I do think the game is good but no "Nier" for me, i was hyped in the trailers but after the demo it just looked like more of a Souls like than Near, at least for now the only "Nier" things for me is the scenery and robots, the combat reminded me a lot of Sekiro and Lies of P in some parts while Nier is free and let you combo freely, Stellar Blade is not bad but when i think of Nier inspired game i think on Aikode, but i hope Stellar Blade gets me hyped again

It's good so far, but as of right now it's only shown a good vertical slice at a thing nier was only "good" at imo. And is not as good as say DMC5 (nier wasn't either too be clear).
The story, themes, music, and variety have a lot to prove as those were the things that made Nier unique and one of my favorite games.
With that said, it looks to be atleast a good game. And if it's not as good as nier it's still a success.

Next Nier? No. I dont think so. It'll be like the next Sekiro or Bayonetta but i dont think the game will go anywhere near the same direction Nier Automata did.
It seems like it'll be more of a standard action game, imo. A very awesome action game. The demo was amazing, but i think Nier veers off to become its own thing that is unmatched by any other game in the genre.

I enjoyed the demo but I could tell this is no Nier. Just because Eve is sexy like 2B it doesn’t mean this will share anything in common. Maybe I’ll be wrong but I don’t think its story will be anywhere near as good as Yoko Taro’s games.
I find the comparisons to nier and sekiro are damaging. Its art style tone and setting are different to nier. It's combat is different to sekiro. It is not copying either game.
I feel people need to start calling it what it is. An action rpg.
Comparison is the thief of joy. Play it judge it for what it's own aims are. From what I gather the aims are for the player to play as an attractive character in a cinematic action rpg with challenging combat (not difficult combat).

I loved the demo, the combat is great and the visuals very nice. The music was shit tho, like an asian elevator soundtrack. I turned it off and I had a dark souls kind of experience, only audio is your surroundings and your actions. Cool

I only played Nier for the first time recently because Stellar Blade keeps getting compared to it. Nier was OK at best and after playing the Stellar Blade demo...I felt that even that demo was WAY better than the entire Nier Game!! Stellar Blade is going to be at least 10,000 times better than Nier...and I'm not even exagerating.
If you're saying it was mid then than you've only played the first playthrough. You have to get to playthrough 3 to see what Nier is really about, it's essentially a whole other game

@@thechance-lore4711 because its annoying & a waste of time. with all the things to watch on youtube, the cardinal sin of content creation is wasting the viewers time. the time spent narrating what can already be seen onscreen could be better spent saying what you think about the game. the entire time you're narrating what the viewer can already see, they could just download the demo for free & play it themselves. the value in your video is telling the audience what YOU think about the video. also, if all the fluff & unnecessary parts of the video were removed... like the parts narrating the scenery & recounting the lore, this video could've been reduced to a concise 5 minutes instead of 12. so what happens is, most people will watch the first minute of your video, see that you're just reading whats happening onscreen & then click away from your video. they won't even watch the other 11 minutes of the video. put valuable information in the first minute of a 5 minute video, more people will watch the entire video & are more likely to subscribe. most people will see the first minute of you narrating & think "wtf is this?" & then just click on another video & won't subscribe. this is how you "git gud" at youtube.

Nar.. Don't get me wrong - I like attractive lead in games I play. Stella blade looks nice but it lacks "character" like 2B. I prob wouldn't recognise this char outside of this game.
This is something I will wait for release to judge. A lot of the iconic characters aren't iconic on release but rather after you have played. The buster sword of ff7 isn't a standout weapon design, however with its success the weapon is now iconic.
I do agree there isn't a single eye catching thing to grab on initial impression. Like The red jacket white hair of Dante or the blindfolded flouncy dress of 2B. Maybe it's due to the semi realistic graphics that it becomes harder to make something really standout when it comes closer to reality?

I love nier but booty aside it plays nothing like nier, also niers aesthetic is cutesy in comparison to this, I agree on the music being a bit on the nose but the game play is very slow compared and I feel you gotta think alittle more about your actions. In nier you can rely on pod and auto heal for 90% of the game

It has bugged me since announcement trailers for this game that everyone focused on eve. I personally found the combat great, the world design and tone is right up my street.
I try not to compare games to other games. I play a game and think do I like this. Does it look good to me, does it play good for me, does it sound good etc. There is always something that does something better and judging like that leads to more disappointment than satisfaction. As I've said elsewhere comparison is the thief of joy.
It sucks that it's turned out to be a game you dislike, which is fair enough, then you ignore it and move on. I dont think it's beneficial that people hate on people who enjoy things that you don't (not you specifically, I'm speaking in general terms)
