As a field biologist, the 100 macro is one of my favorite wildlife lenses. Going to be using my EF 100 extensively this weekend. The RF upgrades look incredible
just last year around this time I purchased my first L lens (RF15-35) to go along with the R for my youtube. I remember watching Pete's old vlog with Dennis making pizza. - One of my favorite vlogs on this channel. I have always wanted a 100mm macro. Most people use the macro lens for non portrait photos but for me the 100mm RF macro lens is PHENOMENAL for portraits 😩 it’s my go to lens for beauty work! If any portrait photographer sees this comment try this lens for a portrait shoot you won’t be disappointed at all

I love how you intro’d (is that even a word? Or proper spelling? Proper conjunction? How does one spell intro’d? ANYWAY!) how you intro’d super close, quickly punched out to widen the shot, then as you talked more and more about it’s ability, you punched in closer and closer to yourself, then when talking about minimum focus distance with Jesse you had the tightest shot of yourself and finally when talking about the versatility of the lens, you punched in and out on yourself. Great subliminal editing!

California it was my goto lens. I could rent it fairly cheap and I hated returning it.... Today I just bought the RF 100m macro for my R6 mkii. Besides the EF 24-70, the 100m macro was my most used lens - a dream for those texture shots. Finally own my favorite lenses.
Glad this is a "first look" because you just stated all the specs we can read on their website. What about the user experience? Is it like the RF 85 f2 where you have to rotate the ring 13 times to focus all the way to its closest focusing distance? Is the autofocus fast going from macro to distance? Is it noisy?
Without a doubt, Peter the best video for this lens, and your creative genius is so shining through with those amazing photos I was blown away. Ordered it already, thanks for the education and inspiration!!
The camera you put this lens on has a film function so you could have filmed the SA control ring's influence. But instead we look at the LCD. Good job man.
could this 100mm 2.8 be a dedicated portrait lens? I'm a poor hybrid shooter, would use this for b-roll, details at weddings, portraits, so on...good enough?
I just got the EF-L version a few days ago and it's my new favourite lens, this looks incredible and I'm happy I'll have an RF option when I upgrade to the R5/6 soon

Man, I tell you what, I finally made the leap in my photography journey away from quick snaps with a mobile (this is not my profession nor will it be). I picked up an EOS R and have played around with the kit lens a bit, it does what I want to know but I am definitely in need of glass to shoot (our snake collection and some others) the upper level of my expectations. Between yours and Jared's videos, it has helped tremendously on some decision-making points for sure.
Man this lens is nice! And it also came out of nowhere, I like heard rumour of it, and then BAM! here is your GREAT video about the lens, if I would have a RF mount camera this would be one of the first lenses I would buy!
