If you don't want the cam to hunt wildly for focus in its full range. Instead you limit it to this specific range. Save the lens the effort in hunting for an ovject to ficus on, and save yourself time
So is this better with an IBIS body such as the R6? If so then I wonder if the more affordable 100mm macro (non L) lens would fair well with the camera's IS, it's still a great lens except for the lack of IS.
I just bought this lens secondhand but it good condtion, and all things you’ve mentioned are correct. does yours also make noise when you detach it from the camera and shake it? I bought it cause I thought it would have been a great lens for videography, but it has slow and bad focus when in video mode and also the IS isn’t stable enough when handheld. It even makes weird rolling shutter effect when you film handheld, 60fps and slow it down afterwards. On the DJI Ronin S it works well for slow motion videos, however, you’ll need to either be lucky with autofocus or use manual focus. Which lens would you recommend me buying to replace this one?
Yeah the noise it makes is the glass moving because the IS is disabled when not connected. I’d look at the 85mm f1.4 if you can afford it. I did a review on that as well 🤙🤙
Andrew Murphy thanks man! I’ve been also looking into the 85mm f1.4. I think it’ll be my next lens. If I don’t switch to other camera brands. I’ve had the 5D mark IV before and its 4K was great quality even though it had a crop and the camera is not really ideal for video making due to its weight, no focus peaking, no flip screen. I switched to the EOS R and the rolling shutter when shooting in 4K on this camera is so bad that it makes every handheld shot (even with lens IS turned on) look like you’re under water..... so sick of Canon. The EOS R’s 4K is almost as bad as the M50’s, which was my first camera.
@@blueghost8057 I very rarely shoot in 4k on the EOS R because of the crop factor. But in ALL I at 400Mbps it makes a pretty decent image. You'll love the 85mm.
If you come here, I have a couple of other macro lenses you could try; MP-E 65. Doesn't focus, isn't stabilised. Best used with flash. Look it up on UA-cam, especially the video about shooting spiders. Sigma 180 F2.8. It's not a small lens, but it is stabilised unlike most of the alternatives.
Great video. Excellent work. Can this "Canon is 100mm f/2.8 Macro Lens" be used to focus on an object of size 4.5mm x 3.3mm? The actual object are individual frames of a "Standard 8" Cine film from the 1960s. Many Thanks, Jay

The Min focus distance refers to a distance from the subject to the Camera's Image sensor, not from the subject to the end of the lens closest to the subject. (That smaller distance is called minimum 'working' distance.)
When I use it to shoot portraits, I struggle with focusing. It appears to have focused on my subject's face, but it turns out that the subject's face is actually not in focus at all. Eventually gave up and stopped using tvus lens for portraiture
USM: faster focus for stills
STM: quieter motor for video, smoother pull

IBIS would definitely help keep it more stable that is for sure. Combing image stabilization with IBIS will give an even better result!
