Enjoy your board man, that thing looks awesome! PS. If you don't like the Glorious Core software, and don't want to go down the rabbit hole of creating your own firmware. I have a custom firmware that's Vial compatible that I'll share. It let's you customize everything, including the knob, much quicker than the glorious software. Also it has a tapdance, that lets you kinda have a numpad by double tapping capslock. Only downside is you can't do perkey rgb like you can with GCore, but it does have a bunch of rgb preset effects already.
Grant! I point this out because I care but I hope you make me look like a dummy dum: YOUR QUEST 2 IS IN THE SUN WITH THE FRESNEL LENSES FACING THE LIGHT! I sincerely hope you comment back at some point and make me look the fool by pointing out you've got lens covers on your headset, especially given that you've got it on a pretty sweet rack thing (which is better than myself honestly, mine's just sitting on top of my PC at the moment, but otherwise I keep in a case) Anyhoozlebee, I hope you're enjoying that keyboard. I recently just got one around the time this video went live and I honestly really enjoy it, especially with the tape mod that Hipyo put in. He's on point about the stabilizers though, gotta address mine at some point but I can live with them for now. It's honestly just a real treat to type on which is why this comment is so long (and the... other comment I left in this comment section...)
This is one of the most wholesome things I've ever seen on youtube. I'm still one of those people that've never done anything with custom keyboards, yet. I greatly enjoy learning about them with your videos though. :)
Make A Wish is pretty awesome, and I encourage everyone to donate to them. If it weren't for Make A Wish, I never would have gotten into computers since my family is an upper-low income family that just couldn't afford computers when I was a kid. I was probably the first kid in my entire school to have a computer, which was a Windows 98 desktop from Make A Wish. I'm still using the desk they included to this day.

for those looking for an explanation on tempest tape mod, in essence what the tape does is reflect sound before it can get into the case, offering more pcb sound vs case sound. used a lot on budget boards with cases that are designed more for price over acoustics. tldr: tape mod makes sound reflect before entering case, makes sound more poppy/thoccy depending on setup
@@rybug SORRY JUST SAW THIS, yes tape will always change the way the keyboard sounds, with more expensive keyboards it's its up to you whether or not you like tape more than stock, as theres more thought put into how the keyboard sounds so tape might not necessarily sound better general rule of thumb tho, cheaper the board the more tape will help sound, as with everything in this hobby its all preference, experiment around and see what you like :)
I kinda love this community. I started PC gaming about ten years ago, and have always been impressed with how great everyone is. Hipyo and Linus included.
Huuuugeeee ass props to you Hipyo (and Linus). Nice to see how happy a new PC & keyboard can make somebody. And Grant I truly hope you get through everything 🙏stay strong and keep ur head up bro!! :)
I also did the tape mod on my Glorious keyboard and even though the foam is pressed on the back of the board with my 4 layers of tape it definitely made a sound difference. Awesome build for a worthy cause and awesome video!!
This is a very complete build with RGB and hot-swap!! But what is the best is the thankfulness of Zeroarkk and the "hype" over the KNOB.... Looking forward to more such wholesome builds!
I couldn't stop smiling as he was geeking out at the Keyboard. Such an awesome and wholesome video :D its rare something makes me smile like I just did, but this video was just so cool that I couldn't help it.
This is awesome, He's gonna love that board! Custom paint job is epic! Strange the board I got didn't really have an issue with the stabilizers sticking like that, for the month or 2 I used them at least. Maybe cause the switches I use have 67g springs? I ended up switching to Durock plate mounted stabs anyway though, which feel and sound much better than the Gmmk screw ins. Had to do a little grinding with a Dremel for them to fit, but am much happier.
I wish my mom fell dish this or really any rabbit hole like this. Your son is probably great and grateful but I promise he doesn’t understand how lucky he is. But some day he will
It’s definitely a solid build to begin the custom keyboard journey. Going the ultra premium route may be too costly, time consuming, and not appreciated enough for beginners!
I love it that, like, in almost every keyboard enthusiast video that contains MX Brown style switches from 2021 onwards there is a Glarses reference. He's like an official meme or something, I guess.
I missed when you made this video, but I wanted to comment (beyond engagement purposes) for your point on Durock L3 pinks. I have these in my GMMK pro with matchy V2 stabs. They're hideously under-rated. They sound fantastic. I've even been using them over my boba U4T switches, after I got jumped into Linear Gang.
To be fair, Glorious just released a new set of stabilizers that are actually excellent and affordable. And not factory lubed. And they stopped calling them GOAT (ironic in a way because they are actually really good now). Sadly, they are not (yet) included with the GMMK Pro barebones kits, but they offer a super low price for buyers/owners of the keyboard and I imagine they will eventually just be included.
Brooooo,, I got turned on to custom keyboards today and I’m sold! I watch the video for beginners and I’m all in!!!’ This is the dopest shit I’ve seen, I’m about to do this!
completely unrelated to the video but I'm concerned about Grant's placement of his Quest 2 as it's dangerously close to being exposed to sunlight, something which should never ever hit the lenses of any VR headset if you wanna continue using them
In my experience of owning a GMMK pro, it seems like they did fix the completely sticky stabs for me. When I opened up the keyboard, I found that there were none of the sticky pads that seemed to make the stabilizers extremely mushy in the older models. It definitely fixed it, but the stabilizers still suck. As I'm watching this I'm modding some Durock V2 screw-in stabs for the keeb.
LTT: "Look at this awesome keyboard that was given just for you!" HT: "Gross. Hey kid, you want a better one, lmk" I'm only teasing, but it just struck me as funny. Like someone's parents giving them this awesome toy for their birthday, and then someone slides in right after and says "Yeah but this one's way better"
I build yesterday the same keyboard and its gorgeus. Maybe i give mine also a paintjob. I think a glossy bronze would be really nice, like at the rims from BMW M4
I have a GMMK pro and it's actually really good with some boba U4Ts that I lubed. I expected far worse for the reviews lol, I swapped the stabilizers, added some tape in between the two halves of the housing (and under the PCB obviously), and used a PC plate. Bam, it sounds exactly how I wanted it to sound, not really "muted" at all imo. The stock stabilizers are definitely still trash tho lol Also, SLIDEEEEEER And I like the heft, also. I'll probably add even more weight because I can. I want my solid wood desk to collapse Swapping the plate to the PC one was also pretty cumbersome and I'm not looking forward to disassembling the plate-foam-pcb sandwich. That's a LOT of screws lol
