Alas, Mr. Dawkins is right. As a gay man, I find the trans movement to be predudical and stifling. Are we not free simply to be a more feminine man or a more masculine woman and still be happy with our physical sex? Hearing lies the problem, especially for younger children still in their formative years.
Another gay man here who absolutely agrees with everything you have posted, and who does post against this “gender identity” nonsense on certain channels who talk about it, even the two news channels, GB News and TalkTV. 😃
There’s no such thing as gender. We didn’t even have the word in our vocabulary until recently when the queer theorists and trans activists took over the world. “Trans” isn’t an appropriate term, it should be “pseudo” as in false. There’s no transition occurring, just pharmasurgical drag. So basically there are hyperfeminine men and hypermasculine women, but they are trying to make society acknowledge them as the opposite sex which is false.
The moment the activists went from 'leave us alone' into 'do as I say' was when public opinion turned, but it was when this stuff went into schools and the books and the teachers and all the crazy stuff was when the entire community was damaged, and ALL lgbt was called into question and we see an uptick in negativity. Chanting "we're here we're Qr, we're coming for your Children" as a 'joke' to wind up Conservatives in the US was, creepy, stupid and dangerous. The result today, is support for Gay marriage has now fallen for the 1st time in 30 ish years and there's no sign of these lunatics stopping. In the face of enormous pressure, studies are showing that most of these Trans kids are actually gay, specifically Lesbian, and the adults in their lives are the ones pushing 'affirmation'. I have great sympathy and respect for Kira Bell who sued NHS Tavistock for their negligence. She'll never have children after they sterilised her.
The JK Rowling thing genuinely pisses me off. She didn’t even say anything remotely controversial but people don’t care outside of what their peers think.
And all of those entitled brats in her movies came out against her immediately. The fact that you can get cancelled for saying only women born female are women is the height of insanity.
I mean, she did say transgender women make bathrooms unsafe. Implying that most transgender women are predators. Not a specific person, not a specific case. A whole bunch of people... predators And the reason no examples were given is because. we all know this. there aren't any outside of fiction.
A betrayal of language and truth... verging on insanity. Indeed. I'm autistic and live in solitude and I really need people in public to speak up and tell the truth and be able to have conversations like this.. it feels like antidote. I dislike all the social bs so much. Interviews like this makes me feel connected to other people again. Thank you.
Michael Malice said : “They use language not to communicate, but to manipulate “ James Lindsay says : “We share the same words, but not the same dictionary” Their favorite tool is to use a word and then equivocate as they see fit.
@@DMR_MAKIt's always been like this though. Our fraudulent Birth Certificate creation & subsequent registration shows us that! And the language of Maritime law involved with it that states we are lost at sea. And Legalese. And higher-case not actually being English. Language & spell-ings are how we are divided, controlled, & misled. Most elders &/or literate have always known this. Certain people only realised this truth from 2020 onwards. And this topic in the video, however bad, is just a distraction from even more pressing issues & deceptions via language.
I'm autistic too, and can just see the pull this ideology has on the masses... They do not think, they just follow. It continues to perplex me in adulthood how enticing the social lure is to nuerotypicals to the point of promoting this insanity. When I ask questions, I am shot down. There is no logic or reason! It should be noted many autistic individuals do make up the trans community. Not fitting in ever can cause identity issues, and aspies are attracted to these sorts of communities too. I only care about what actually makes sense at this point. People do not seem to care about my feelings, so why blindly follow theirs?
So what do you think of the FACT that actual neurological scans have shown trans brains structures having similarities to the gender they identify with and not to the birth sex? Their brains are a distinct phenotype from both the traditional male and female brains. Just maybe us putting people in strickly two gender boxes isnt actually enough? Wish Dawkings would comment on those studies, but i dont think he keeps up with the latests science like many people here, you yourself included.

There’s an enormous difference between having a genuine dysphoria regarding your sex and simply identifying as something based on your subjective definitions.
I can't imagine what it would be like to grow up today a tomboy, as I was in the 80s. I liked all things boys and even dressed like them. But no one ever told me I was a boy!! I still like to do things that are considered male stuff, like sports but I dress more feminine now. I have no identity crisis as an adult but, damn, if I was that kid I might be screwed today. Although, I'm pretty sure my parents wouldn't have placated to the whims of a 12 year old. Thanks mum and dad for the discipline.
Same here, but in a mirror reflection. I grew up in the same era and know people would be telling me I was a trans woman. No, I would say, I'm just a poet. ;)
So you are saying you WERE NOT gender dysphoric. Are you trying to claim that today children who are NOT gender dysphoric get forced to transition or something like that???
Well it is definately interfering with their own natural selection process which is not equipped to evaluate such matters nor should it be expected to or be subjected to sick experimentation for the sake of experimentation. No wonder they want to be dogs and cats.
@@tomyossarian7681 Children who are NOT gender dysphoric are being brainwashed into believing they are trans because they have some gender non-conforming traits. Eighty percent who claim trans change their minds when they get past puberty.
When I was a child I was told that if you kissed your elbow you could change into a boy. I tried hard to do that because at 7 years old I thought having a penis would be cool. I liked climbing trees and doing things that were most associated with boys. I was not trans and not unusual. I think the trans issues have become political and so people have been led to believe that today if a child says they wish they were the opposite sex they will be rushed off for treatment.
I’ve been saying this for years now, it’s absolutely at odds with the feminist movement for equal opportunity - a woman can be masculine and wrestle men and she’s still a woman…
My Sister grew up with two brawly boys... Me and my brother! And oftentimes times, she felt left out so ended up being quite a bit of a tomboy growing up, so that she could fit in! We're talking sports, bikes, play fighting, skateboarding... The whole lot! So Thank God I'm GenX, because some trans Nazi today, probably would have pressed my Mum to get her transitioned! Even though my Sister is now a healthy woman, with two kids, a career, a house and a cat! Had the trans Insanity Crowd intervened, she'd probably be in the grave by now! 😳
I was asked….”Why is it different than being gay?” “A gay person says “I like coffee not tea.” He isn’t saying “I AM tea.” or that “I can change the rules of existence because it is fashionable.””
Homosexuality is biological and can be observed in the body given that sexual orientation is an instinctive impulse towards either sex which is out of your control. Gender identity, on the other hand, is not biological. Gender identity revolves around the regressive sex roles. That is the main difference and they should never be lumped together.
Those men who claim to be women are hypocritical because they claim on the one hand that something can be true merely by believing it, but they would not expect this way of thinking from society when it doesn't suit them. If they needed emergency surgery, they would expect the surgeon to be quaified, not just someone who identified as a doctor, because they really believed in their heart of hearts that they were a doctor. In all aspects of their lives, the application of facts, logic and reason are vital for their survival, and they expect everyone they need to fit in with that. But when a man claims he is a women, then suddenly facts, logic and reason don't apply anymore. How convenient.
It's time people speak up against the insanity. Much of that movement are very aggressive. As a woman, I am really angry that men now participate in women sport. They are physically stronger and are really stealing the rights we fought so hard for. What's worse is how many support them.
but what about african women playing in the same sports as chinese women? African women are much larger, stronger, faster than chinese, on average. Why is that acceptable?
The way girls n boys change in puberty is different, boys grow muscle which does make them physically stronger. These are just basic facts, that does not make us any less. But sports that require physical strength they do have an edge. We are not talking about chess championship, we match in brains but something natural we can’t change.
Except that transwomen taken hormones that reduce their muscle mass, etc. and then you have biological women who are stronger than some biological men. Then of course, it's always the transwomen people complain about... ignoring transmen, like "well, I'm angry that women now participate in men's sports." You never hear that side from people who have a problem with trans people.
I studied Arabic and Persian and the translations of Harry Potter helped me a lot! I have done the same thing with my son when he started learning English and Italian. It works like... magic!
It bothers me when people who pride themselves on critical thinking speak so confidently about things they admit they don't know much about. This is how fame damages a person's integrity.

You have to love a group that is offered a meter and they take a kilometer. I have 2 small children and it pains me terribly to have to raise them in this twisted society.
The bigger problem I have with this movement isn't as much the insanity of their claims, it's the consequences people are facing for resisting the agenda. They can tell me 2+2=5 all they want and it won't affect my perception, but if I'm made to be a pariah in society because I refuse to get on board, that's scary.
I'm glad he's a bit cautious. Which is an honest way to be - it's not his area, and the whole thing is so complex, it takes a lot of time to really understand it all.

Maybe you can take a look at it cause some information from there is reaaally fascinating and at the same time, I have not seen a conversation about some writings from there. I would love to watch a podcast about it tbh. The book: Sex, time and power: How women's sexuality shaped human evolution by Leonard Shlain. Thanks for your time! 🌟
Therians (Those literally think they are animal) already exist and they have the all the same arguments for the validity of their existence. Well, it's not about "us" and our inconvenience and discomfort, that'll be intolerant, selfish and petty! It's about respecting others and what they perceive as being them. It's about being empathic and kind, how hard can it be to extend that to others and not only one self and own needs!
I think he’s absolutely right. Both of you, as a matter of fact. I really like your new channel, Andrew. And do your thing, don’t worry too much (if possible) about losing subscribers after an interview etc.
I'm a great believer in freedom so people can look and identify as they want. In the 70/80's everyone looks queer, weird and androgynous. The problem comes when people create an identity then force you to confirm it. If you don't you will get abuse, cancelled or worse. It's the corporate and HR acceptance of someone made up image of themselves that annoys me.
You know, trans people asking for their pronouns to be respected is not really asking much. Sure, their identity is constructed, but so is yours and everyone else on the planet. I'm sure that despite everything, you'd preferred to be called by your pronouns, would you not? Incidentally, people who are publicly homophobic, racist, sexist, etc. deal with the same social consequences and some how I don't think you'd have a problem with that. Why should transphobic people be an exception? I think people should be given grace to live, learn, and do better. However, as things are, loudly displaying ignorance about marginalized groups is going to get your average JK Rowling publicly shamed ( though in her case, it's hardly the end of the world).
@@LadCorazon how others see us is none of our business .ie If you identify as a cat and I can see you are not biologically a cat then I will not agree with you identifying as a cat. You cannot tell someone what or how to perceive you.

I like Dawkins, but there are children who, without influence, truly feel as though they are the opposite gender. To simply push them off as confused people is a terrible, bigoted outlook on the subject. This is the type of behavior that causes teen suicides... But let's "be glad' about it.
@@rl7012 But what if they're not? What if a child truly believes they are the other gender without influence? Do you still write them off as confused?
@@JMGMusic Just like there are no vegan cats, there are no transgender children. All children play and pretend it doesn't mean jack. You really think a child can know for absolute certain that they were born in the wrong body? Not even adults can know that.
Most important stuff has already been said but there's a UA-cam video detailing biological aspects of transgender people. For instance, there is a part of brain between the amygdala and the hypothalamus (forgot the name) where you can count the neurons. Men have more neurons in this place than women, meaning if you did an autopsy post mortem of someone, you can identify their gender (not sex) by counting the neurons in this part of the brain. The funny thing is, a transman (born woman identifying as man) has the same amount of neurons as you would expect with a cisman and vice versa. It has also been proven that this phenomenon is not caused by gender reaffirming surgery. It occurs in people regardless of whether the trans person has gone through any kind of gender reaffirming measures (like HRT, surgery, etc.). At the same time, when cis people go through medical treatment akin to gender reaffirming measures (like estrogen therapy in men with scrotum cancer) the number of neurons aligns with their XY chromosomes. Another aspect concerns phantom perception. That is when a limb is amputated but you still have perception in said limb, e.g. pain or pressure. In men that have been diagnosed with penile cancer that have their penis amputated 60% report phantom perception. With transwomen though that go through a similar surgery the number is effectively 0%. It's almost as if their bodies have been transformed into a form that always should have been that way. My third point concerns mental health issues. Transpeople who live in a more accepting environment additionally having access to gender reaffirming therapy are way less likely to have psychiatric disorders, like anxiety, depression, suicidal thoughts, substance abuse, etc. It might not be "biological" evidence but I think it still supports my argument that trans people are valid and just happen to be born into the wrong body in a way we don't understand yet. I think this at least partially disproves the narrative that transgenderism is a disease. My logical consequence would be to keep researching the topic further until we make up our minds and not start calling each other "on the verge of insanity". Until then I think it's morally correct to accept trans people as they are and offer empathy, truth and community.
I am a twin with a twin brother. I was a tomboy and he was not sporty or very masculine. We are both happy heterosexual adults with partners. We could easily been pigeonholed into being transgender if we were born into this generation.
@@oblongfan1 some people might truly have disphoria, like maybe in your case. Most dont, its just a fad, a dangerous fad. Her point is easy to grasp. A very very small % of people have true gender disphoria.
Nonsense like this makes me despair for humanity. Hitchens enthusiastically supported the invasion and destruction of Iraq. A country destroyed, 1 million dead. Dawkins condemned Julian Assange, praised the foul warmonger John McCain as a "good man" and has now joined the genocidal pro-Israeli propagandists.
It is all personality, if you are a woman it really depends on your personality how you dress and live your life, also on your age, young female teenager are more likely to want to dress up and wear lots of make up than when they are in their thirties, but young men even heterosexual men can go through phases of enjoying make up and the flamboyant clothes but it just comes down to personality rather than gender, people might be surprised to know men in the past in certain cultures even in Europe have at times been more flamboyant than women. it is just absurd to say you are born in the wrong body just because you prefer one thing over another.
it's the new trend to feel special, when personality is made to be a person's identity back when I was a teen, we had emo, goth scene but claiming membership of a subculture just doesn't feel special anymore
I've said all along you can identify as anything you like, but that doesn't make it true, and the rest of the world does not have to accept it as truth😅. Look, I can identify as a lion but it's doubtful anyone is going to let me live with the lions at the zoo, and while I *can* go to Africa and attempt to join a pride of lions---the lions there will surely not accept me as a lion either---because *they* know a human identifying as a lion is *not* a lion. It's all so ridiculous.
If these people truly were just about the whole "let me be me and you be you" thing, few people would have a problem with it. But that's just not the case. Take Page, as used in the thumbnail, for example. The storyline for Page's character in Umbrella Academy was heavily altered because Page was a lesbian, so the character had to be too. Then Page did the whole I'm-a-man-now thing (which led to Page's wife wanting a divorce, hilarious) yet *DIDN'T* step down from the role in favour of a.. y'know... female actor. No, now the character had to become a trans man as well. Meanwhile, other actors and voice actors are being blasted or shunned for "not staying in their lane". Again, if they weren't being such asses about it, few people would care (but that would also not make them "special" anymore).
You sound very confused. The character Page played became a transgender man due to Page personal gender preference. However it was Netflix that made the decision to stay with her probably due to her acting talents, so why do you care?
Dawkins is an ignorant clown. He seems to be an excellent scientist, certainly a great science writer, but when he leaves science and encounters the real world, he is a fool. Some of his nonsense : The foul warmonger John McCain was a "good man", "no sympathy for Julian Assange", he promoted the dangerous RussiaGate lie, now he has expressed solidarity with the genocidal pro-Israelis. There are people worth loving in this world, Dawkins is not one of them.
I've always wondered how someone can claim to be a woman or a man if they haven't experienced the genes that define a person as male, female, dog, monkey, etc. As a man, I can't imagine feeling pregnant, even if I want to with all my soul, mind, and strength. I can't feel like a dog if I don't have the hormones or genetics of a dog. I don't know if I'm making myself clear?
see but genes alone don't define sex. it's pretty basic biology. Simplest way to understand it is that intersex people exist. Just because something applies to the large majority, doesn't make it 100% applicable. Which is why it's not that hard to imagine gender dysphoria. A thing that is very much not fiction. It's pretty interesting to look into it if you're genuinely curious
@@diogocambrian I am very curious, but since it seems like you know what you're talking about. Can you explain to me why consciousness exists only in humans and not in other living beings such as animals, plants, and fungi? If it's a biological thing, shouldn't it be observed in all the animal kingdoms, etc...?
@@FabioT. Actually, primary consciousness does exist in many animals. Like they're awareness of themselves and others and emotion is also part of consciousness. Many made the same argument about homosexuality in the past. Claiming that since it wasn't present in the animal kingdom, it must in fact be a "bug" in humans. And now we know that homosexuality is in fact everywhere in the animal kingdom. I just mention that because saying that because something isn't seen in the animal kingdom, therefore it need not exist in humans is not a good argument. I think with gender it would be harder because gender has to do with the self. How you see and feel yourself in the context of society. Gender, not sex. Gender is not biological. Gender has to do with everything we associate to male, female,... it's a category made up just like any other. But there's a good reason we conflict gender with sex because most of us do see ourselves in the gender that matches our sex. Gender dysmorphia is when this unfortunately isn't the case. And people don't have to agree if this is normal, a disease,... the reality is that what many studies have found is that people who experience it have higher tendencies for drug abuse, depression, self-harm, suicide. And I don't know. It's sounds like shit so yeah. Why not let them follow whatever the medical community agrees is best to make their lives better. Which is being integrated socially in the gender they identify as. I know a few transgender people and let me tell you. No one in their right mind would ever go through all that by choice. It's a fucking nightmare. Which is how you can know for a certainty that it's not a phase or "political" or whatever. It's just some shit they have to go through to Hopefully feel better and be happy. Which is what we all are trying to do no?
@@diogocambrian So you agree, and everything happens in people's minds. Earlier, you said that a person's sex is not determined by biology, which is clearly incorrect. In the animal kingdom, as well as in the plant and fungal kingdoms and other species of life, there is no ambiguity about gender. When you mention homosexuality, it's strange and diverges from the topic at hand, which is completely different. I don't judge people; I just want to get to a possible answer, and one of these is that biology has nothing to do with it. It's about the psyche of individuals, not animals, etc., so research is limited to the mental state of certain people. I can imagine that these people suffer. The point is: how can we help them?
I'm a neuroscientist. We've discovered that there's a biologic difference between biological sex (phenotypical genitalia and chromosomes) and gender (it too, is biological), in which is what sex a person feels consonance with. Structurally, there's no such thing as a male or female brain, just a brain. However, on the atomic and cellular level, different chemical and electrical propagation of neurons are occurring that differentiate different gender traits. Studies show, individuals displaying opposite neurophysiological processes of their biological sex in trans people. Neurophysiological processes akin to ND or being gay, these are not delusions but based on real causal material interaction. And before anyone strawman's, we can objectively verify someone's age, height, sex, and the fact that they aren't an apache helicopter, so it would be delusional to identify as these. However, you cannot dissect a person's brain and determine their gender. Not to mention, men and women can have opposite chromosomes to their sex or lose their genitals due disease, or mutation. That's not how you would distinguish their gender. The strawman is equivocating sex and gender. There are 2 sexes (not even counting intersex mutations, because that gets much worse for people who think gender is binary). But gender isn't claiming to be that, however it's still is based in biology, not psychology. For the colours red and green, each colour could be near infinitely divided into other shades. The same goes for the gender spectrum which is just more accurate descriptions based on physical brain processes. Science updates itself, Pluto is no longer a planet, but a dwarf planet, and in the same way the concept of gender and sex are different and equally valid. You are the experience of consciousness that arises from physical processes in the brain. Not your body. Of course, you depend on your body's processes for vitalization, but hypothetically you could transplant your brain into another, whereas, you could not be separated from your brain. So the body in this regard is insignificant. You are your brain, and that determines your gender, not your body (I'm not saying it isn't influenced by the bodies organs)! Even theists too believe that they are not your body, so I don't see why when bodies are not infallible, they couldn't get your sex wrong? In the same way they can give people autism, or intersex (it's just a more complete version of that) etc. It's not just a feeling, it's akin to being stabbed in the gut, and feeling pain. We can literally see what's causing the abnormality. Some biomarkers are The bed nucleus of the stria terminalis (BNST), and it's neurotransmitters, which are 2x the size in males, than they are in females. We see this aligns with how transgender people identify. No, it's not the hormones, as we have men with testicular cancer and go on hormone replace therapy, and this does not change a thing. You also see, in phantom limb syndrome, that transgendered people have a rate of 0% occurrence, in comparison to the people that identify with their biological sex. The physical brain agrees that they are not of the same sex, despite their hormones, gonads and chromosomes.
The thing which confuses and annoys me is the fact that people who support the rights of those with gender dysphoria to transition to the opposite sex (which I fully support) complain that the right wing can’t tell the difference between SEX and GENDER and get the two mixed up, but then they go ahead and still use terms like “a MAN who can reproduce” and get annoyed when this is called into question or misconstrued. It is asking a lot to expect everyone to inherently understand what that means without explaining it to people. Most people still think there are men and women, that’s that. So from most peoples perspective, the phrase “a man who can reproduce” sounds utterly absurd. Why not at least be more specific and say a TRANS man who can reproduce? Why must everything be so needlessly cryptic and misleading?
It is misleading as language has yet to accommodate our new understanding of biology. As for the right wing morons, they try to avoid clarity of thought and expression as much as possible - something even Dawkins now has to resort to.
@@zeenuf00 Yes, that is true but Gender Confirmation/affirming surgery exists and has proven to be very effective in alleviating gender dysmorphia. And there is a very low rate of regret among those who have gone through with the surgery. Look it up. I did not think I could love someone more. For a completely new and different reason, which wholly aligns with every checklist of sanity there is. Having said that, I desperately love the nuance, and calling out the "betrayal of language," the "debauching" of language. Especially the "I feel something besides what society has told me I should be AND 'Therefore I am a woman.'" No. That is not actually how things work. Back up the conversation to what certain people feel "societal norms" impose upon a person, and...yes, then, maybe we can talk. To simplify things: If a person born female likes blue and power tools, does that make her a man? No. If a person born male likes barbie dolls and dress-up, does that make him a woman? Certainly not.
Imagine that 24 years ago, people were excited for what the 21st century had in store for humanity. People dreamed of colonizing other planets, teleportation, and flying cars. Fast forward to 2023 and we have this nonsense. The 20th century seemed better.
As a lesbian, I think some men are more feminine and some women are more masculine, but being more masculine than the average, does not make me a man and visversa. You can’t say your another sex, it’s just not possible. Unfortunately you get the woke brigade pushing it. I feel for the kids.
@@tomyossarian7681Provide scientific evidence that demonstrates that there are conclusively exclusively male and female brains. Then provide the pathology that explains how a female brain would grow within a male body, then still more evidence of what effects this phenomenon has both psychologically and physically (and where and how those two aspects are connected), then you might have something rational to explore about that potential occurrence. More importantly, you’d have some foundation of biological and medical factual data to begin developing positive care and treatment for those suffering from your newly discovered and thoroughly defined medical pathology. Without that, it’s pointless fictional speculation that’s about as useful as wondering, “What if I were a wizard trapped in a muggle’s body?”
@tomyossarian7681 if a person is born with a female brain in a male body that person is a woman. That's why intersex women, who are male and are identified as female at birth and raised as women, don't just say, "jeezzz I guess I'll transition to a man now", upon learning they're biological males. There's an internal sense of identity that supersedes genes.
Can someone explain what a "feminine attitude" is? That sounds like sexist nonsense to me. Is there a "white" or "black" attitude? Let's quit equating personality traits, values and behavior with "masculine" and "feminine". This type of thinking only encourages "gender indeology"! Men are men, women are women, but people are individuals. IMO, these categories of "masculine" and "feminine" exist only for marketing purposes. There is only "male" and "female". Some are born intersex, but that's a tiny minority. This idea of a "psychological gender" is sexist snd helps no one. Only the physical matters.
A 'feminine attititude' can make sense, it's just an offshoot of the word 'feminine'. If you can identify a list of personality traits that have traditionally been considered feminine, then a person who identifies with those traits could be considered to have a feminine attitude. But what doesn't make sense is to say someone has a _female_ attitude, since there are no personality traits that are exclusively male or female

How impressively callous, clueless and shallow a great evolutionary biologist can be. Trans women are highly unlikely to be simply average Joe males suffering from some kind of delusion. There are generally other issues: same-sex orientation, impotence, physical underdevelopment or anatomical intersex attributes, with which they are trying to deal as best that they can. The opinionated simpletons in the comment section are stomach-turning.
Humans exist on a spectrum of masculine to feminine, but not on a spectrum of human to dog. It is natural to be relatively more male or more female or in between, these are not separate species as are humans and canines.
@@andrewgoldheretics How so? The comment isn't stating that "male" and "female" exist on a spectrum but rather that "masculine" and "feminine" exist on a spectrum. Don't they? You'll certainly find many biologists who subscribe to this particular model of a spectrum not because of "religion" but because of research in neurobiology, endocrinology and clinical data. We know from science that sex differences at the level of the brain account for a wide spectrum of behaviors -- sexual behaviour, aggression, cognition - etc. which are associated with sex/gender. These can be, and indeed are, evalualted along a "spectrum." (Consider, for example, the work of Neurobiologist, Dr. Arthur Alexander) But one does not need to accept the "spectrum" model to observe a more obvious fact --- all humans have female chromosomes. Every human embryo has the potential to develop male or female anatomy and/or hormones. We do not have dog chromosomes. It's a poor analogy. Your interview with Dawkins is for the most part, very informative. Other than the fallacious (and, arguably, dehumanizing) dog analogy, I think you do a very nice job with this famous scientist. However, this is not his field. If you're committed to open inquiry and exploring "heresies" why not invite a researcher or clinician to provide an alternative perspective, rather than dismissing any scientific perspective that is unwelcome to you as "religious drivel." Food for thought.
Do masculine and feminine exist on a spectrum? Maybe, yes. In fact, I'm inclined to say yes. But a principle of individual liberty for me means that if a woman is stereotypically masculine, she shouldn't be made to feel like her body is wrong for it, and she now needs a penis and to get changed in male changing rooms. It's a really conservative message to send to people, particularly children. I want my kids to be who they are, to defy gender stereotypes, and not feel like their bodies are wrong. I often ask people on the other side of the trans debate to come on, they never agree, even though I'm not exactly a harsh debater! @@citizenghosttown
@@andrewgoldheretics What you want is irrelevant - your kids will feel the way THEY feel. If you bothered with the facts at all, you would know that not all trans people want to go, not to mention HAVE TO (as you dishonestly suggested), through bottom surgery. Some people transition only socially, some go through chemical/hormonal treatments, some do cosmetic surgery. But you never cared for the facts and you keep supporting lies, misrepresentation and hatred. Aren't you the guy who engaged in debunking the exorcism and whatnot? Why switch the brain completely off in this instance?
@@andrewgoldheretics Thank you for your reply. I'm not sure what is "conservative" about the view you attribute to the "other" side. But I also don't think that view is accurate in several key respects. First, when a biological female identifies as a male, they are not simply "stereotypically" masculine. We know from clinical data that most girls who show masculine traits don't actually identify as men. Transgender identity is something quite different. Second, I'm not sure who it is you are accusing of making such girls feel as though their body is wrong and they now need a penis. Teachers? Doctors? That amorphous boogeyman known as the "media." This strikes me as a straw man and has given rise to a moral panic that is, at best, unwarranted. But it also plays upon the conspiratorial notion that there are dark Marxist forces, looking to groom your kids, rape little girls in changing rooms and tear down society. Perhaps you believe that to be the case, but I don't think so. I give you more credit than that. Of course there is a lively debate within the medical community as to the proper course of treatment for those individuals who may require it. But you mentioned individual liberty. It is precisely because of individual liberty that I believe those issues are best decided between doctors and patients --- and not by the State. But now, in the U.S. if teacher in Florida and some other states, acknowledges that transgender individuals exist (or...gasp... suggests that they are entitled to dignity or respect), that teacher can now be fired. Several states have refused funding of libraries that carry any LGBT literature. So yes, individual liberty has a lot to do with this. And I recognize that it cuts both ways. The attempts to shame or silence individuals who disagree about gender/sex should also be condemned. The decision by the American Humanist Association to strip Dawkins of an honor simply for raising a topic of controversy in a Tweet, was deplorable. I hope you really do approach the topic in a way that favors open inquiry and honest discussion. I fear that the difficulty in finding someone on the other side of the trans "debate" may stem from the fact that it is framed as a debate. It's fairly easy to find a clinician or spokesperson who can explain why "gender" is regarded as distinct from biological sex but most doctors and scientists have no wish to be tools in a culture war or subject themselves to the threats that come with it. (It's not just JK Rowling who gets online threats -- transgender individuals and advocates are routinely bullied and threatened). The science of sex and gender is very interesting (and complex) but that is not exciting to most people. Outrage is exciting. The culture wars are what's exciting. My two cents. Thank you for your time.
I get very offended if I dont get my walks every hour and my tummy rubs and I insist on sharing the bed and sitting on the sofa and if I dont get what I want I will leave a big present on the kitchen floor because I'm so special.
I love Richard Dawkins for his clear thinking. It also gives me the confidence to be willing to discuss things like the trans debate in public. I'm tired of the woke left yelling at me for having an opinion that differs from theirs. I dislike like men competing in womens sporting evens, claiming they are women. I don't care if they've been gelded or not, they are still men.
"The only thing I can think to top that is, 'I identify as a dog'." Oh boy do I have news for you, the furry community is growing and I wouldn't be too surprised if somehow 10 years from now at the rate our wokeness is growing, we will have snowflakes claiming to be a dog.
Many years ago (it was the '90s) my boss went to a big meeting, lead by consultants, on how employees would be treated in the future. He came back and I asked what he had learned. He said that they had taught him that going forward if someone said they were disabled they were. No doctor's note. No visible lack of limbs. No need to prove it. Just on their word, one day, they may say "I am disabled and accommodations must be made". And, oh, how we laughed. We laughed and laughed knowing that this would never happen. And now... well, here we are. And now all I can think of is the children's song "I'm a little tea pot". So... am I a little tea pot?
I as a cis male have more feminine traits then masculine I'd say, but I don't feel trapped in the wrong body. I think trans must be different than just having feminine or masculine traits.
The funny thing is Richard is probably very much pro-trans. It has nothing to do with being anti-trans but people are simple minded emotional creatures and only hear that.
Sex is about many things, but it is firstly about reproduction. Reproduction is why sexuality evolved. Without the need to reproduce and propagate, sex would not exist. This is such a basic concept and yet trans activists--or even gay activists--seem to be set on denying it. Sex is not about your self-image. It is, first and foremost, a system that allows us to make babies so we don't die out as a species. It takes two sexes to reproduce offspring, and the sex that impregnates is called male and the sex that becomes pregnant is called female. That's it. That's where the whole concept of male and female come from. If you have a penis but would like to have a vagina instead, that doesn't make you a female. It means you are a male who wishes he were a female. Without agreeing on this, we cannot have a rational discussion about transgenderism.
Nobody denies that. What trans activists and gay activists are saying is the first point you made: Sex is about many things. You'll agree, I'm sure, that rest rooms and pronouns and swimming tournaments don't have much to do with reproduction.
@@citizenghosttown Yes but men are 99.9% more likely to be sex attackers than women are. Men are also physically bigger and stronger and more likely to be peeping toms, autogynophiles, perverts and the like. Men and women should remain separated for the protection of real women and girls.
I remember people against gay marriage having the same argument. What's next people marring (identifying as) their dogs. Give people the freedom to marry and be who they wish.
I remember here in the US some people were against gay marriage because they said it would open a floodgate of this kind of craziness. I bet they feel vindicated.
I don’t really get why people care so much about what someone else does if it doesn’t affect them at all. Besides getting upset about it for some reason. Who cares if someone wants to change gender? There are bigger problems to tackle, and every other podcast is somehow about gender. How many people are we even talking about? Even if you’re aggressively against it, wouldn’t it be better to just go on with your life? Why start all kinds of rants and shit about it? People love to cry about freedom but then not grand other people freedom.
I went to a bank yesterday and told the teller i wanted to withdraw all of the funds in the CEOs account. She said " but you aren't the CEO " to which i replied , " yes but i identify as him " . she said , oh ok, wait here until i get a bag for the money "
Pretty sure the people getting angry and upset are the ones who can't use other peoples pronouns. Deflecting and minimizing a persons identity by conflating it with cheap shots like "identifying as a dog" cant be taken seriously, but I guess people like only identify as serious thinkers but really aren't.
I have always been a Christian, so of course I've been at odds with Dawkins about that. But I appreciate his bluntness and during the last year, I've realised he seems to be a likeable person for the most part.
I have a friend who has a transgender son. This phenomenon is real and as a society we need to find a sensible way to deal with these people with understanding and care.
There are people with phantom limb syndrome which indicates that their brain contains a model of their pre-amputation body within it. So, I don't know why people are having such a hard time with the concept of a person of one gender have a brain-model of a different gender. Dawkins even admitted that male and female brains may be real. It's not unreasonable, for example, to think that a female brain would contain a brain model of a female body, nor that a female brain with a female body model might exist within a male body. This is a perfectly reasonable/plausible explanation of gender dysphoria. There's no need to call trans people mentally ill, nor get anywhere near implying that they are vermin like Dawkins did with the dog comment.
@@bizzee1 That doesn't make sense. Phantom limb syndrome is not patients reporting that their missing arm feels like a leg or something similar. Your brain model doesn't follow either. The physical brain did not have another physical body to think it was missing. Mentally ill seems perfectly reasonable. It isn't being mean. It is diagnosing it for what it is.
@@tietengekofgods You completely misunderstood my post and thus misrepresent it in your reply. Also, a competent medical professional should know better than to try to diagnose sight unseen. So, you are not a competent medical professional, and your claim of "diagnosing for what it is" is at best uninformed.
@@bizzee1 I was not trying to misrepresent your post. I see no connection for the phantom limb syndrome and your brain model. If the brain is telling you that your body is something that it is not, is that not a mental illness?
Back then I never thought that would be a possibility, which is why I laughed at the absurdity of that notion. Now, I'm not so sure some people wouldn't try to make that happen. lol
The problem arose when all of a sudden there was a list of instructions given to everyone else that this is how you must see me and address me. People seem to forget that people like Boy George were around 40 years ago. Nobody imagined there would be biological men in womans sports for instance. It's a tricky one for girls because i imagine a lot of them are conflicted because they naturally want to be kind.
Why are schools pandering to the madness of rude entitled spoilt children? The only way to obtain absolute certainty is to have children and adults psychologically assessed and given treatment. This is going to absolutely ruin the education system. Anyone ideologically captured will never be able to make friends and have a decent career path. They will be labelled as trouble.
So give them a litter box and make them use it. If they’re really a cat, they will be fine with it being in the corner of the classroom and will scratch for hours after using it.
How about admitting there are people that deeply feel they are men. I deeply feel I am a man. And I feel that that feeling is hardcoded in my brain. It doesn't come from my understanding that I have a penis and most probably have xy chromosomes. My sense of my gender is fundamental. Or is that an illusion? If that sensation is fundamental, like sexual orientation, why is it so hard to understand that that fundamental sensation might differ from what your sex chromosomes or your genitalia would imply? We may talk about anomalies, that's just a word, homosexuality is one anomaly, transgenderism another. The difference is that there's a simple solution to homosexuality: come out ❤! The solution to transgenderism is more complicated, if a person is trapped in a wrong body. If you don't accept homosexuality, imagine yourself in a society, which only accepts homosexuals and you see no heterosexuals around you. If you deny transgender, imagine yourself in an opposite sex body.
If you are born female XX then you cannot be a male. Your femaleness is in every cell of your body including your brain. Why not just embrace your masculine side instead of buying into all this ideology? For thousands of years there have been masculine women and feminine men, but nobody got medically mutilated for it.
I think that if a person born with a male body later identifies as a woman, when we say that she is a woman we don't mean, obviously, that this person has the ability to produce eggs for example, it is a statement to describe what this person feels.
There is a difference between the words female/male and woman/man. The former refers to biological sex while the latter refers to your gender (which is psychological).
For someone who touts the complexities of living organisms, you'd think he would be more open to this kind of variation in the human experience. All in all, I think his socialization as an 87 year old British man has absolutely primed him to oppose this kind of human experience. I wish he would use his voice and influence to do something less bigoted than going on a trans rant. Live and let live. Trans people are people, their life experience is valid, let them live however they see fit. Trans people aren't out here spreading hate and violence, they are simply arguing that they should be allowed to exist, just like everyone else. It is a human rights issue above everything else.
Yup. If nothing else, why doesn't Dawkins discuss the issue with a scientist or doctor who disagees with him so there can be a sharing of perspectives with someone who is actually fluent with the clinical findings?
He touts biological facts, one of which is that sex is binary and another that humans can’t change their sex. This is incompatible with the unscientific trans ideology.
Identifying as a dog is not as much of a joke as you might hope! Two school girls were rebuked by their teacher for not accepting a fellow student who identified as a cat - as a cat!.

But thinking is the requirement for being conscious of one's own existence. If you're in a vegetative state, other people still know that you exist, but you don't anymore. I don't think Descartes was being stupid when he said that. I remember that, as a child of about 10, I attempted to stop thinking to find out what not being conscious means, and it never worked out. I was always thinking about something.
I have a very masculine lesbian sister who has been miserable her entire life. From a very early age it was clear she had no femininity at all and I am sure deep down she wishes she had been born a man, that doesn’t mean she is a man. She is a woman, she was born a female. I don’t know if she has body or gender dysmorphia but I do know she’s never been happy in her female body.
For a Darwinian Dawkins seems to be very dogmatic. If you consider that natural selection has allowed for gender variation beyond simple male and female then the real issue is exactly the same as religion where control is desired. The reason there are only male and female is because people want to control how people behave. Think about it, we are fiercely indoctrinated... Before we are born parents assign blue or pink to what we wear. Science supports trans people, it is not a choice and simply put society must allow representation for all variations because to do otherwise is playing god...which we know is fantasy. Jkr is an expert in fantasy. Realistically, trans people exist and simply want to coexist with everyone else.
But it's the other way around actually, it's actually trans activists who say liking blue makes you a boy, when gender critical people say you can like blue or pink but stills you is a boy, if it's your biological sex. And of course trans people exist, it's just a debate on how we use the word woman, but we should all respect each other. Love to you.
Why is it that so many intelligent people think this is a good argument. Saying one feels like and identifies a different gender, but still human, is NOT the same as thinking you're a dog! That's a false equivalent and bad argument. 🤦♂️
The thing is… it’s gotten out of hand. If you just take a proportion of people who feel most comfortable identifying with the opposite sex and go through that physical transition and believe that is who they are… then who cares. The issue is when you start bringing children into it, start avoiding the idea that therapy quite often can solve those issues and gender reassignment surgery is not needed. When you start accepting every person to “decide” their gender. It should have just been left to transgender adults and that is it - a seriously harmless thing. I am a woman and I have ALWAYS felt more masculine in many ways, such as being really interested in sports etc. But interests and feelings are nothing to do with who I physically am… this is where people get confused.
If not he or she, why not it? Why is it plural, them? And what are we gonna do in languages where there’s no gender pronoun? C’mon wise westerners, enlighten us
Alas, Mr. Dawkins is right. As a gay man, I find the trans movement to be predudical and stifling.

Andrew! I've already listened to the full conversation. In love with the content of your podcasts. While watching it, I thought about a super interesting book I read last year. 🌟
Right on.
Therians (Those literally think they are animal) already exist and they have the all the same arguments for the validity of their existence. It's all goes back to Gnostic belief that the body is a prison and the spirit is the true self, James Lindsey has been deep diving into Gnostic roots of it all it would be great to have him on.
'80s*, no apostrophe saying "80 is" as you did. Apostrophe omits something, as in the 19. 👍 Eighties.
I agree.
@@LadCorazon how others see us is none of our business .ie If you identify as a cat and I can see you are not biologically a cat then I will not agree with you identifying as a cat. You cannot tell someone what or how to perceive you.

I am glad there are still people with this opinion out there.
But I don't get how transgenderism is "conservative". Where the hell does that come from? It's the Left who is promoting this garbage, and the Right [conservatism] who are most against it. Andrew is a complete idiot.
I like Dawkins, but there are children who, without influence, truly feel as though they are the opposite gender. To simply push them off as confused people is a terrible, bigoted outlook on the subject. This is the type of behavior that causes teen suicides... But let's "be glad' about it.
@@JMGMusic Children are the easiest to brainwash into this claptrap.
As American i love the British intellectual take on this. It doesn't come off as lurid or over emotional.
Richard Dawkins is from Kenya tho🤷
I am a twin with a twin brother. I was a tomboy and he was not sporty or very masculine. We are both happy heterosexual adults with partners. We could easily been pigeonholed into being transgender if we were born into this generation.

It's all so ridiculous.
furries ? 😂

How do you experience genes? For sure as hell I don't know what that means. Do you know what a gene is?
see but genes alone don't define sex. it's pretty basic biology.
I'm a fish 🐟 trapped in a human body.... transphibian!
I’m transphibian phobic
You are not a neuroscientist and men can't be women and vice versa @archangelarielle262
I identify as a great white shark. Be careful swimming around me, buddy..
I think you mean a man who can get pregnant. All men can reproduce. All men have reproductive organs.
No human being can actually change sex
No human being can 'transition' to the opposite sex. It's scientifically impossible to do so.

Good comment. I agree.

Humans exist on a spectrum of masculine to feminine, but not on a spectrum of human to dog. It is natural to be relatively more male or more female or in between, these are not separate species as are humans and canines.
You go wrong in the first sentence. Utter religious drivel
Arthur Alexander)
But one does not need to accept the "spectrum" model to observe a more obvious fact --- all humans have female chromosomes.

He just doesn’t like the lies, identity isn’t the issue it’s the “biology isn’t real” crowd
Did sex evolve though? Do you know the official evolutionary biology story of how sex supposedly evolved? It frankly beggars belief.
No one can give you freedom to be something you actually aren’t. Are you 5 ?
And there are people who identify as dogs lmao 😂

Good to see that there's still some sanity in this world.

"I couldn't imagine writing a satirical novel about it" just sums up how crazy things are today.
One word: psychotherapy.
Remember people used to say about gay marriage, ‘what next? People marrying their own dogs?’ The similarities are uncanny.
But that was a stupid, homophobic joke wasn't it. So.....

Like Emmanuel Kant said and I paraphrase - If the truth makes them self-delete, call the bluff.
But there are school kids identifying as cats and demanding cat litter in school
No this was one class in one school by one teacher. This story was ridiculous and insane, but it was an isolated case
almost a haiku but not
Why are schools pandering to the madness of rude entitled spoilt children? The only way to obtain absolute certainty is to have children and adults psychologically assessed and given treatment. This is going to absolutely ruin the education system. Anyone ideologically captured will never be able to make friends and have a decent career path. They will be labelled as trouble.
@@Chez114but it’s also been happening in the US
So give them a litter box and make them use it. If they’re really a cat, they will be fine with it being in the corner of the classroom and will scratch for hours after using it.
Identifying as a dog? Some of them already do. Pride march has become a zoo.
In my town of Port Townsend, WA State a woman was recently banned from the YMCA because she asked a man to leave the women's locker room.

Lunatic, thats the exact word to describe it. Insanity.
