      Brings back memories, Gabriel. I did a similar trip way back in 1991 with some friends. Gangotri, Yamunotir, Badrinath, Kedarnath, and then further onto Rudranath, Tungnath, Anusuya Devi and Deori Tal. Such fun!

      Yeah I'd like to go back and get up to all those places sometime as well. I've done four different trips into that region of the Himalayas, but always in winter so I couldn't make it to the actual temples.

    I'm not a vegetarian, but it really seems very special that so many in India respect life so much that they don't eat meat. Also, the way they let animals wander around tells me that they have achieved a very special relationship with nature. I think I could learn to live like that. Maybe one day.

    Non-touristy destination -- more realistic prices and perhaps better attitude by locals. Gabriel, you make budget/adventure travel so much more satisfying than luxury travel! Getting a meal made for you from scratch by the cook --- and you can eat all you want, soaking by yourself in the hot springs pool and having the manager adjust the heat for you. This is both adventure travel and chilling out/hanging out vacation. I hope you stayed a few more days there.

      think positive -- thats exactly why people have been coming to the Himalayas , Rishikesh, Haridwar for centuries from all around the world. it changes the way you think about life..your life and the life around you. if budget is your issue, plan ahead. January to May are good months to travel. make your bookings atleast 6 months ahead of time. once you land here trust me things are not too expensive. if you dont mind living in dharamshalas and ashrams the fare is really cheap and if you use public transportation like city buses or the 3 wheel tuk tuks adn eat hot fresh food from dhabas which is absolutely safe ... you will have a fantastic time. westerners who have come here almost never wanted to go back. the spiritual vibes. the peace . the feeling of oneness with God will liven you up. Make a wish to the lord of the Himalayas Lord Shiva that you want to come to this holy land and let him make it possible for you.

      @@sunny_dhende6289 Do visit the Himalayas atleast once in your lifetime. Take a dip in the Mansarovar lake from where you can see the Mt. Kailasa - abode of lord Shiva. the Beatles music group created some of their most hit songs when they lived in an Ashram in Rishikesh. Steve Jobs and Mark Zukerberg found thier life path after they visited an Ashram of Neem Karoli baba. EVen Julia Roberts keeps a photo of this saint in her pocket at all times. Richard Gere was also smitten by the Buddhists of Dharamshala. There must have been something that changed their lives in these mountains. Only experiencing it can define these feelings, words will never be enough.

    Much appreciation, just finished the first video on the way to Uttarkashi. This brings back floods of memories from a trip I took way back in 99. I tried to get to Badrinath and Kedarnath offseason, I think it was the end of Feb. I nearly made it to both places but was forced back by snow and avalanches blocking the road on the way to Badrinath. There was no public transport that would take me to try and reach Badrinath at that time of year. Somehow, I met the mayor of Joshimath who apologetically explained that there was no way to go. After he declined my requests, as i was about to leave the office, he suddenly said, "excuse me sir, we have had a report that the roads come under avalanche near Badrinath and we need to go inspect, and he invited me to go with him. We made it to within 10 clicks of our goal and discovered that the reports were true, huge boulders blocking the road. Having said all that the surrounding areas of the Garwhal Himalaya (Uttarakhand) are some of the most stunning and dramatic on earth. Its also testament to the ruggedness of the region that very few Western tourists make it to this fascinating and insanely beautiful area. So much to explore! Thanks for keeping us on the edge of our seats. Peace and safe travels

    • @GabrielTravelerVideos
      @GabrielTravelerVideos  6 років тому +2

      Wild story. My first time to India was in October of 1999, just a few months later. I also went to Joshimath, in December of 2010, and tried to get to the Badrinath temple. I took a jeep part way, walked several miles up the road, then decided it was getting too late so I turned back and caught one of the last possible rides down the mountain back to Joshimath. Fun times in the Himalayas. One of these years I need to go back up there in the summer when the temples are open and visit all four of the temples and get further back into the higher mountains, that would be seriously amazing.

    • @globalisite
      @globalisite 6 років тому

      Agreed. I have yearned to go to the Himalaya in the summer and have been thwarted due to work commitments during our summer season. That said, I have been extremely fortunate to have visited the Himalaya on 6 separate occasions, in the late winter and early spring, somehow making it up to about 5000 meters before getting turned around due to various sorts of adversity. I suppose the upside is the emptiness and natural village life that takes place in the off season. But given the scope of the Himalaya it remains one of the last best places on earth to really feel like an explorer...off the map...

      It's more popular in the warmer season when people are traveling to the Gangotri temple and glacier. Now the temple is closed so there aren't many people going that way. But in the summer and late spring/early fall there would be a lot more people and traffic going through there, mostly Indian tourists.

      akki... to elaborate a little more - Garhwal region of Indian Himalayas has 4 high altitude temple towns Gangotri, Yamunotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath.. all the temples (and thus the towns) open around April and close down after diwali festival which is in late October/early November. other times are off season and less touristy due to high altitude and cold. although it's not much difficult to travel there as local taxis and buses still run.

    The riddles of Life .. when I was young I loved to travel even to dangerous places even on little or no money ..... now I'm old, moneys not a prob, but the FEAR of exotic travel is .. hmmm the paradoxes of Life. I need a partner to get me going, rejuvenate me to discover life in the old dog yet.Will watch all ur vids, and check ur book out on Amazon, if I travel i'll take it with me. Whatever the Meaning of ur Life is, it seems to be working for u. Ur Enthusiasm is Infectious. Peace

    Hi Gabriel, I saw your all videos of Haridwar and Rishikesh. All videos are very nice informative. It not just only useful for foreigners but it useful for Indian too. I saw in video that you're living here very simply like us. For example find cheaper hotel/ashram, eat simple food, travel by local bus/auto-rickshaw/tempo/jeep/etc. It seems like we are travelling with you. I would watch your rest of videos too. Thank you for making very very nice and simple videos.

    • @GabrielTravelerVideos
      @GabrielTravelerVideos  6 років тому +17

      I wasn't able to upload any while I was out there, no internet. Now I'm back and staying somewhere with super fast internet, much better than it was in Rishikesh. It's so awesome, what a relief to not have to wait 20 hours to upload a video, it only takes 20-30 minutes.

    You asked for a ride to malla, u got down on bawdi, then went to gagnani.. does bawadi falls on the way to malla? You have learnt a lot of Hindi that's wonderful. Great.

    Hi , I have been watching your videos for a quite long time . And I liked them very much, quite informative as well, about such interior parts of india where I have never been. You are most welcome to visit the North Eastern part of india which you might have not visited till now.

    Great video Gabriel. Really good production values and cinematography. I wonder if you would consider doing some commentary on the people you have met and talk about how it feels to be in some of these areas. Another thing that I think people might like to know is how you manage to stay healthy while traveling? I will be in Uttarakhind in February. 10 days in Dehradun and then about 3 weeks to explore. Thanks again, really enjoyed watching this.
