It's a cool knife for sure, but you could get the Hogue Deka in Magnacut for less than half the price of the Kline. Kind of a no brainer for me. Same specs, USA made, etc.
I have a couple of the Deka’s, and they’re fantastic values, but not the same materials other than the Magnacut, and not the same specs at all. Smaller blade, plastic handles, no titanium pocket clip, the Kline is on phosphor bronze washers, G10 scales, big hollow ground blade, and is more substantial. But the MSRP on this is like $230 more, so that’s a big bite. If this ever gets back in stock I’ll use their first time buyer 10% off and get one for $330, mostly just because I like the idea of a big hollow ground blade in Magnacut, and so far all my knives in that steel are smaller (Deka, Rockwall thumbstud, etc.)
My only issue with the Magnacut Deka is the dog shit plastic handles. They’re absolutely awful. If Hogue would just make it with black micarta handles, it’d be perfect. They need to knock it off with the plastic handles.
Hogue stuff all look pretty ugly imo. Literally all of their designs lack a certain elegance and aesthetic I'm looking for. That being said the James Brand one looks way more aesthetically attractive but it's overpriced. @@tylerwalsh9020nerally agree on TJB overpricing, especially for their cheap steel options, but a Ramón Chaves Liberación 229 in M390 and G10 is $345. I have all your other models, but after a year of looking can’t find that ProTech Mordax in stock anywhere, so am assuming I missed it, even though I was on them right away. That and Striders are knives I just can’t get. Like you I love larger knives; if you haven’t already, grab yourself a Chaves Redención or Liberación Ti framelock in Ti or G10. Great looking knife. It would be cool if you'd mention the rough cost. No need to mention where unless you want, but a quick "these go for around $xxx" would be cool. Long time watcher, seldom commenter, keep the reviews coming, you do a great job, man.
It’s supposedly $389, but I saw it on their site two days ago for $369, and they offer a first time buyer 10% discount, so that’s $330. If the frame were titanium that would be fair, but they’re pushing it a bit because it’s steel, and only the clip is titanium. I still really like the big hollow ground Magnacut blade though. This is the first TJB knife I’ve ever considered, most are D2 and way overpriced, and I have a pile of quality knives so it’s easy to compare. You can grab the Mordax in Magnacut for right at $300 and for a knife with steel liners, nice looking Micarta, axis lock and Magnacut (supposedly at 63 hrc per their website) this just feels overpriced like just about all of their line. I do like the astetics and would be interested around the $250 mark but this is $100+ higher than it should be.
Actually I see the Mordax MSRP at right around $245 in Magnacut, and it is and has been unavailable everywhere, for at least 6 months or longer. I’d love to know where I could get one for $300. I have bookmarks to over 50 knife sites, and Mordax in stock notifications on at least 15 of them, and nothing. I found exactly one selling second hand for $600. As with all things James Brand this knife is wildly overpriced. The Mordax is listed at 120 dollars less expensive. I appreciate the design language though.
@fredeschen3783 Do you want me to Google it for you? Or are you making a point of availability. If so, I don't really care. It's wildly overpriced hipster brand bullshit I'm sure protect will release more magnacut mordax models in time. Or look on the secondary? It's not hard.

Clean looking design, but I agree with others… $350 for this knife? Very much no thanks. Typical James Brand overpricing. (Even their utility blades: 10 for $12?) So many better knives out there for the price. Wonder if Metal Complex would like this one as much!
James brand money gauges.. Especially on the knife you were showing.. Your right tho it is a dope knife. Just wish it was a Hogue and not an evil James Brand Knife lol. Still a killer review tho my dude.. You should always mention price tho ($369+ !!!! Wtf lol.. That is just straight crazy talk) .. You can get a Hinderer for a little more.
JAMES BRAND could be so much bigger than they are even though Reate Makes all their knives. With the tactics in Marketing and overpriced in every single thing they sell per words of the Owner is because of Marketing which I don't get because 70% of the knife Market is based around online/YT I can't get behind them until they stop there extremely overpriced products. Jst out of touch. And I doubt they will so I will never own one and not because I can't afford but because I refuse to support a Co. that only cares about there bottom dollar or so it appears.. Ps. Get ride of Marketing and Market UA-cam, lower the price and you will have much success.
I’ve always been a supporter of you bud bud I’m not foking with the James brand. Overpriced in my opinion but if people pay it then it doesn’t matter and my opinion doesn’t either.
Not sponsored in the slightest. Like I said I’ve never owned one of their knives and I was surprised with this because the quality is great and I like it.
@@TalonSei It was mostly in jest, being sent free knives could be considered being sponsored. The James Brand has a long way to go before they are a respected brand in the EDC world. They could have at least mentioned who actually made the Kline for them. They're the Shinola of the knife world.
Where? And with the same options and materials, not a plastic handle Deka. The Tactile Rockwall Thumbstud is $300 and great quality, but the blade isn’t nearly this substantial.
There is nothing about this knofe that warrants this price point or even half of it like most everything James Brand makes. Looks cool way overpriced for what it is.
Something I’m really finding is knives with a big belly and tip up such as this aren’t nearly as good for EDC as something with tip down and just a little belly like that TJ Schwarz... But I suppose it’s all in your use case 🔪
Are you kidding? Tip up carry is the defacto standard for EDC, and… THE TJ SCHWARZ is a fixed blade! It’s tip down or maybe scout carry by default. You’re comparing two entirely different classes of knives, I suspect because you don’t know any better. And the belly on the Schwarz Overland is twice what it is on the Kline. What are you talking about? SMH. 🤔😳
@@E.L.RipleyAtNostromo you have me all kinds of wrong. With tip up I was only referring to blade shape I.e. tip up would be something like a tanto and tip down would be something like a wharncliffe. I’m not talking about how you carry them. I’m aware the TJ Schwarz Overland is a fixed blade it’s on my buy list. By belly I meant radius, something like a drop point has a much sharper curve to it than a sheepsfoot with a subtle elongated curve. My point with it is a blade shape where the point faces down is better for opening packages, popping zip ties, still does food prep (depending on design). Not saying you can’t do this stuff with any other blade shape, I personally just find sheepsfoot/ wharncliffe to be very practical. Hope that better explains
@@JensenAzotea OK man, you got me, my bad. I did completely misunderstand, and now that you explain it see what you were getting at with your points. Thanks for explaining!
@@E.L.RipleyAtNostromo all good man! I could have done a better job explaining to begin with. But I do kind of contradict myself with what I say because one of my favorite blade shapes is a tanto with a recurve, but I would really like it if I could get one with a drop or straight clip point on it
The reason you get so much grief for this... it's not fair to compare "The James Brand", that DOESN'T MAKE KNIVES, to companies like CRK, or Hinderer, or Les George, or Spyderco, or Tactile Knives, or Oz Machine Company, or TRM, that ACTUALLY MAKE KNIVES. Honestly, that comparison is insulting to actual knifemakers. TJB hires someone to create a CAD copy of some other popular knife, changes a few trivial details, then sends that out to an actual knifemaking company (usually in China), then adds a huge markup to cover ads on social media and paying influencers, and a probably pretty hefty profit margin. They don't know anything about machining, heat treatment, knife geometry, ergonomics, or any other attribute of knife making or design. You could put the entire staff of the James Brand in the best-equipped workshop in the world, give them a literal ton of knife steel and 6 months... do you know how many knives they'd make? Zero. Because they're not knifemakers.
Well even a blind squirrel occasionally finds an acorn. It doesn’t matter what they know, because in this case according to this guy who DOES know they got it right, and he can certainly speak to the ergos, etc. Every one of these makers borrows from the competition. To me, after seeing the low quality materials TJB usually uses this is a step up, and after a first time buyer discount to get it to $330 it might be overpriced by only $30 or $40. I really like this profile blade in this steel, and other than the Mordax which is basically discontinued, I don’t see this blade profile much in Magnacut. It should be a titanium framelock for this price, but don’t dismiss it out of hand just because the rest of their stuff is overhyped and overpriced with cheap materials. The guy putting up the video knows knives so his recommendation carries some weight.
Please name one. You’re just parroting everyone else. The Mordax is out of stock, and the Deka isn’t the same level of materials as this with its plastic handle, and other Magnacut knives are smaller. So please list all the better options.
always appreciate a classic Talon folding knife review

A couple of the sellers with the Mordax are guys I've bought from so if feel comfortable with them and the knife is definitely worth it! Happy hunting!!
Less costly: Kizer Escort 20CV 120.00 +
As with all things James Brand this knife is wildly overpriced. The Mordax is listed at 120 dollars less expensive. I appreciate the design language though.
Is the Mordax available anywhere?
@fredeschen3783 Do you want me to Google it for you? Or are you making a point of availability. If so, I don't really care. It's wildly overpriced hipster brand bullshit I'm sure protect will release more magnacut mordax models in time. Or look on the secondary? It's not hard.
@@fredeschen3783 No, it isn’t, and hasn’t been in months. After days of searching I found one used for $600. If it was anywhere this would be a valid point, but the Mordax in both black and blue handle versions is unobtainable.
I’ll stick to my Chris reeves
Bro check Demko knives
JB. Price Point? I don’t think so.
Such a knifey knife
No on James Brand. Big No
Clean looking design, but I agree with others… $350 for this knife?
Because F my desk, amiright?!?!?
Correct 😆
Okay that’ll be seven hundred dollars
That's a great lil collection, looks like you've downsized from years prior
I wish that was the case 😆
Looks like a Chaves knock-off
Yay another axis style lock 😒
Beautiful knife. Really stands out against the comparables. Nice review.
It really doesnt.. You can buy a hogue that you know is actually usa made for 1/3 of the price with better materials.. James brand is a hustle
@@ChazLikesSharpObjects thanks for the feedback
I’ve always been a supporter of you bud bud I’m not foking with the James brand. Overpriced in my opinion but if people pay it then it doesn’t matter and my opinion doesn’t either.
Love James Brand knives.
👌🏻
For the rich
I like simple.. price is stupid.
It just doesn’t do it for me. That’s it lol
The James brand is the best USA made knife when you're being sponsored by them, otherwise that title really goes to Demko
Probably not actually made in USA.
nice knife, 369$, theres better options out there for way cheaper
Where? And with the same options and materials, not a plastic handle Deka. The Tactile Rockwall Thumbstud is $300 and great quality, but the blade isn’t nearly this substantial.
This brand is a joke and makes overpriced product that is as devoid of substance as the hipsters they market themselves to.
Weird, you keep pronouncing Chris Reeve Knives and Sebenza wrong throughout this entire video.
Damn, the title made me lose a little respect for the channel. The James knives are budget knives and that's it.
The title is a question lol
@@TalonSei With !? in the title, it appears you think it's what the title states and you're asking the viewers what they think.
I know everyone has different taste but that knife looks cheapo.
Boooooo James brand 😠
James brand knives are way over priced. It’s an OK knife not sure if it’s a contender for the knife of the year. Just my 2 cents.
Way better options for cheaper. James brand is trash, but a very influencer friendly.
Please name one. You’re just parroting everyone else. The Mordax is out of stock, and the Deka isn’t the same level of materials as this with its plastic handle, and other Magnacut knives are smaller. So please list all the better options.
To answer your question. absolutely not
