    During a number of sessions, I had the privilege of watching the entire "India's Book of Wisdom: The Bhagavata Purana." The genre is that of an art film - mood and style reveal substance. The "culture of the Bhagavatam" is the hero of this story. We get bits and pieces of it , particularly dance, art, and music, throughout the movie. Philosophy mostly sits in the background while sentiments of bhakti take center stage. The approach of the female director is studied, deliberate, methodical, and revelatory - a gentle, feminine touch that is both confident and reassuring. There are no attempts at dramatic punctuations or three act structures. This is a path of discovery for both the host and audience. There is not much pretense in Krishna Ksetra Swami's role as the inquiring host. His humble nature immediately puts the viewer at ease, and he is a credible ally in a mutual journey despite the fact that we know that he knows where this is all going. Actually, I wasn't sure at times where the wandering was leading. It picks up speed as it proceeds and finally crescendos in the final twenty minutes to a predictable, yet satisfying, conclusion. We get the transcendental logic in bits and pieces which complete the puzzle as the theme progresses. Krishna is seen increasingly as the source of the light of the Bhagavat - as it should be. What binds this patchwork of cultural mileux's together is a superb score by Kai Engel. He provides the waves upon which we undulate and move toward the shore. The director, Inci Mutlu, has obviously understood not only the profundity of the Srimad Bhagavatam, but it's potential to liberate the soul. Main cinematographer, Filip Gour, has a sensitive and creative eye that takes its time to ponder, reflect, and contemplate. The entire presentation is a meditation that can elevate and inspire. Thanks to all involved; they should be very gratified with the result.

    The fact that this wonderful documentary is offered to the public as a free service is a powerful testament to the nature of Krishna bhakti. The river of transcendent transformation and spiritual love runs swift and deep throughout the entire presentation. The heart cannot help but be touched and the intelligence be piqued by such a documentary saturated by devotion. Krishna as the Supreme Personality is infinitely more accessible through the realizations and demonstrations of bhakti by the host and all of the contributors.

      Dear Nrsimhananda Das,
      Thank you so much for your heartfelt message that deeply touched us. I am inci Mutlu, the director of the movie. Dr. Kenneth Valpey, read your message as well and he personally wrote me that you are also movie producer.
      Yes, that’s correct, I am touched by the fact that you’ve noticed that we didn’t try to sell or rent the movie in dvd format or online. And to not to loose time to bring the documentary to a wider audience, we also didn’t apply to any festival or try to get this sort of recognition from the industry. After the post-production we immediately published and presented the movie to the public as a service.
      The documentary is been made with almost no budget. Contributors are volunteers and just for the kickstart we get some donations from friends and students of Dr. Valpey who believed in the project for the basic travel, equipment, operator and hotel expenses.
      We are very grateful for your kind message which translates our feelings into words during the process of the movie making. I wish you all the best in your upcoming project. With kind regards,--inci mutlu

    What a refreshing angle to look at the Bhāgavatam - as a source of inspiration to so many spiritual and artistic pursuits. Though in close touch with the Bhāgavatam for the last 20 years, after watching the film I'm inspired to dive into it yet again and discover more and more of its hidden treasure. Thanks to the creators of this wonderful documentary, and especially to Dr.Kenneth Valpey for being such a wonderful guide.

I have also studied Bhagavad Gita, Upanishads, and Brahma Sutras with commentaries from different swami's representing different sampradayas.
      With that said, and to be honest and as polite as possible, I will just say that Bhaktivedanta Swami is great if you are a Hare Krsna, or if you interpret all scripture literally and fundamentally as ISKCON does. Puruna is actually a slavic god by the name Perun. And sanskrit is an old Russian dialect still spoken in some places in Siberia.
    Sanskrit vs. Russian:
    etat (this)=etat
    tat (that)=tot
    vam (your)=vam
    kada (when)=kagda
    matr (mother)=mat, matri
    bhratr(brother)=brat
    sheeva(organism)=shiva(alive)
    sthana (region)=strana
    agni (god of fire) =agni (fires)
    moksha = mokosh
    Lada= Lada
    Baghavan= Bogh
    Svet (bright) = svet (bright, light)
    sama(self)=sama
    asthi (bones)=kosthi
    sneha (snow)=snega
    dhuma (smoke)=dhim
    ukshana(Ox)=Oxanna(name)

    dvaara (door)=dver
    smayate (laughing)=smiyat
    mriyate (to die) umriyet
    plavate (to swim)=plavat
    deti (children)=deti
    only a small selection of over 1000 similarities. Considering the fact how much modern Russian has changed till today this is astonishing.
