I am a person born into Hinduism. I left religion and became agnostic, no one in my family was killed for my idea. I love that Hindus have freedom of thought and expression and we do not bully people to convert to Hinduism. This itself makes me happy about hinduism even though I myself don't follow many Hindu customs.
Shruthi Reddy - "you left religion" but hindu/dharmic tradition is NOT the same as religion. The word religion comes from the latin word (religaire) meaning to be bound (by a book). It aptly fits the blind faith Abrahamic religions. Point is none of the Abrahamic religions were built around any well validated metaphysics. It led to blind belief in a book, needless middlemen/prophets, angels, non existent heaven/hell, fantasy stories (propagated as history) and half baked responsibilities towards people and nature due to lack of understanding of karma or cause and effect created due to violation of balance of natural law or dharma, reincarnation (birth/death duality cycle) and moksha (microcosm to macrocosm. What is dharma? Dharma has the Sanskrit root dhri, which means “that which upholds” or “that without which nothing can stand” or “that which maintains the stability and harmony of the universe.” Dharma encompasses the natural, innate behavior of things, duty, law, ethics, virtue, etc. Every entity in the cosmos has its particular dharma - from the electron, which has the dharma to move in a certain manner, to the clouds, galaxies, plants, insects, and of course, man. Man’s understanding of the dharma of inanimate things is what we now call physics. Violation of dharma creates karma or cause and effect and reincarnation. What is hindu/dharmic tradition? Hindu tradition was built around the well validated Dharmic/Vedic metaphysics Sankhya and represented in the form of temples, deities, rituals, symbols, festivals, mantras, YOGA/TANTRA, pilgrimage centers, mutts, puranas/ithihasas (Ramayana and Mahabharatha) with allegorical stories which represent laws of nature, shastras (dance, music, science, Upanishads) to follow dharma, reduce KARMA and put an end reincarnation (birth/death duality cycle) so that everyone gets Moksha (microcosm to macrocosm). Duality cycles of nature are mediated by the conscious, immanent (athma), transcendent and omnipresent Shiva. Duality cycles of nature are sustained by Dharma (so the hindu/dharmic tradition)
@@indianmilitary >>> It led to blind belief in a book. If you just want to scoff at it, it's your mistake, at times you may have found certain maths or other subjects illogical at the first glance, but obviously they aren't, otherwise they won't stand with time.... The vedic literature talks about unchanging absolute reality which is eternal in nature, so obviously the vedic literature and the truths in it are eternal as well (try to imagine eternity, infiniteness? ), so it does not depend on our puny mind's logic to stand but as the sun stands independently , showering anyone who is eligible with the knowledge of the absolute reality, absolute truth in its fullness... I will repeat again, the absolute does not depend on the temporary (our puny mind's and weak material bodies that we now inhabit) , it stands on its own unlike us ...

@the one who judges the book by its cover I do not think we should propagate this kind of thinking. I learnt sanskrit and also learnt the vedas and upanishads. But generally, vedas and upanishads are only taught as memorisation and for chanting. Me and my brother, we looked into the upanishads, read old bhashyas and translations as well. It is super interesting and I recommend that anyone start their journey into them with a sense of reverence and respect that we are taught to give to any form of knowledge and wisdom. @Nope, no translation can be perfect. Start with RK mutt/ missions books go through translations Shankaracharya's Bhashyas (commentaries) and Max Muller's works. Just remember that personal biases and upbringing will obviously impact the translation. Read as many as possible. Happy journey is this amazing process. Oh! you could also listen to some audible series available, but just remember that everyone understands it differently and that is fine.
@the one who judges the book by its cover I feel what we call Hinduism is the analogous to philosophy today. There are many thoughts, some apparently contradictory. The is a verse which says 'ekam sat viprah bahuda vadanti' truth is singular, the wise call it by different names. There are many more such sentences. There have been debates between shankara and mandana Mishra etc. It is a process or a journey rather than a destination probably. Check out nasadiya suktam, it was mentioned in the Allahabad ayodhya verdict as well, it leaves a question mark asking 'who knows'. I don't think there is anything like the correct branch, or maybe I don't know it yet. There is a lot of simile and metaphor etc, so just allow for that as well. Also in Sanskrit word are generally derived from attributes, there could be a word which means 'that which holds water' it maybe present in translations as a pot or a cloud or lake etc. It could be that confusing to translate. Just a heads up

@Siddhant Mishra No, a structured hierarchy was present even within the vedic age. You people think Hinduism is like a programming language that can be altered lol. Read the purusha sukta in the rig veda and the chandogya upanishad. It very explicitly talks about a structured hierarchy.
@Siddhant Mishra Hinduism is dharmic and each individual has to follow a strict code of ethics named dharma. Altering of dharma can only be done by the divine. Not by man. Even the Bhagavad-Gita says that my guy.

They don't use their brains to conclude it is good or bad For example allah allows wife beatings in quran , so muslims can't say it is wrong . They have to justify it . But in Hinduism lord shiva completely prohibited wife beatings meanwhile lord vishnu allows wife beatings. So we have the choice to conclude what to do in different situations. Another thing is in Hinduism god indra allows having physical relations with female slaves . Meanwhile god vishnu completely prohibited to make relations with women without marriage In hinduism god narada allows us to drink alcohol and play gambling meanwhile god garuda prohibited us from gambling and alchohol . In Hinduism god garuda says that if a women's husband die then ahe alao have to burn herself and became a sati . Meanwhile god manu says that a widow should follow celibacy and religious lifestyle till the time of her death Another god in Hinduism called indra said that a widow should perform niyoga and live her life happily with her brother in law . Meanwhile another god in Hinduism called narada says that a widow women should remarry another man . So Hinduism dosen't lock us to obey a particular deite's opinion. We have diverse options to chose . We have 330 million different gods and godesses each of them has diverse opinions. So we can choose or reject any random opinion of any deity . We use our brains and chose any opinion that fits with morality and humanity in respect of situations and time . So after atheism, Hinduism is the only religion which encourages us to think and choose freely instead of locking our intellect in a particular commandments . Hinduism even accepts LGBTQ community but yes according to the scriptures they cannot get any share of their parents property and they are not allowed to be married with another LGBTQ. And they comes in untouchable cast (dalit category) . But hindu scripture commands us to give charity to lgbtq people and help them . (Arthashastra) In Hinduism women can wear anything they like . There is no dress code. In Hinduism there is no particular law of doing fasting or prayers etc . Many Hindus only pray and practice some rituals only 3 to 4 times in a year and that also in festivals occasions like diwali or holi etc just for entertainments purpose . Hinduism even allows to have oral ex . In one of the Hindu scriptures called koka shaatra chapter 9 allow us to have oral pleasure in 69 position . Hinduism is more like atheism with the option of 330 million gods and godesses.

Finally somebody is discussing the intellectual philosophical aspects of Hinduism. Otherwise the recent social media discussion about Hinduism is only centred around caste-based discrimination, origin of Aryans & Hindutva. Edit: Replies to this comment proves my point.
I am reviewing a lot of new research on caste and the Aryan-Dravidian theory (itself a derivative of the debunked Aryan Invasion theory). Both are fundamentally colonial British constructs that have no real basis.
@@taitreyarr2715 Lol. Aryan "invasion" has been "debunked" by mainstream scholars, but it seems there may be some political reasons for it. Aryan migration undoubtedly happened. The Aryans were descendants of the Indo-Europeans, who were war like, so its not too far of an assumption to say the migration wasn't so peaceful. I can talk about the Aryan invasion further if you wish. Saying there's "no real basis" is just proof that you have confirmation bias. Genetic evidence of the modern northern indians show large portions of steppe migration (R1a haplogroup); there is undeniable evidence of the connection between all Indo-european languages like Sanskrit, Greek, and other western languages; and the Indo-european religions all are extremely similar. Even Tilaak, the founder of modern India, didn't believe the Aryans originated in India. I will happily continue on this conversation with topics such as Sinauli excavations and Rakighara, which allegedly "debunk" the Aryan invasion (they don't). The only other theory that is possible is the Out of India theory, which is so flimsy that only ardent Hindu Nationalists or even Hindu Fascists believe it. Even moderate Hindu news sources can not defend Out of India.

Rituals followed by priests come from the Vedas (Fire or food sacrifice or Yajna ). Mythology & festivals from the two epics - Ramayan, Mahabharat & Puranas. It will be interesting to know when we switched from Vedas to Puranas.

The easiest way to explain is that God, the creator is experiencing its "self" through us. From my point of view in a more detailed version is that God, the creator, is in a constant state of existing and non existing at the same time, it "is" and "is" not, it will forever be and never was. We live on the the existing side of its "self". All that exists in this world is a part of God, the creator's "self". The purpose of creation is so God, the creator can experience a state of existence of not knowing its "self" exists. Those who find their true "self" are known as a bhodi or an awakened one and are able to see how the nature of man and the world function in a way they understand only to themselves, the more knowledge a bhodi gained they were able to express themselves (their "self") in a more ways so people could try and understand. this is what gives it oral tradition and was never written down because the true word of God, the creator needs no words and needs no translation, it is life and can be easily explained by this fact of life alone by finding your "self". All that has happened has never happened and will continue to happen. The vedas were written by the ones who found their "self", the awakened ones, a bhodi, and were all given different types of knowledge to pass down through time for those who struggle to find their "self" in order to guide them to a better way of life. What keeps God, the creator so well hidden from its "self" is the duality inside creation that is all life. This is the duality of good and evil, dead or alive. They both have to be there in order for each to exist in its own right or else one without the other would have no "purpose". Humans are closest to being like God, the creator, in a sense that we have the ability to become aware of the "self" but the trouble with that is the creation of the human body and that the body has needs, and also has wants known as the human condition. Those wants and needs of the human condition are what keep the creator hidden from its "self". The bodies needs are what keep the body alive. The bodies wants are everything thing that we feel and desire of the material world which the body becomes attached to such as love for family, friends, pets, etc. we also have desires for sexual pleasure and over indulge ourselves on food and guilty pleasures and are at a constant battle with our "self" conscious between the good and evil thoughts of our human condition. We have to learn to live with the human condition and all that it is because it is God, the creator in all its forms of its existing state. I feel like I could write alot more but will leave you with that from what I know in my own words.
I believe the same. The universe and the whole of creation is the means by which the Brahman manifests and "dreams itself. To us it is a reality (albeit short reality) and to the universe, it exist and the it doesn't. This goes on for eternity.
Katha Upanishad might be my favorite. Nachiketa talking to the lord of Death (Yama) Edit: and of anyone wants to learn more I'd recommend Swami Sarvapriyananda. He was at Vedanta Society of Southern California and a few years ago he moved to the Vedanta Society of New York. Both have their own channels. So much fun and educational (for me) to hear him and his follow monks speak than a new agey type. They always creep out and they speak in that slow, unaturally calm voice.
A beautiful video. To understand Hindu teaching a whole dedicated life is required. In its core Hinduism is a monotheistic. If u do pardon me Hindu teachings can be traced in almost all the religions of the world. Vedas are treasure of amazing knowledge. Synopsis : Its Mother of All monotheistic as well as polytheistic religions. 🙏🙏🙏
Ahh! Thank you sir for understanding that hinduism is at its core monotheistic. What people don't understand is that the vedas~the only books representing the true philosophy of Hinduism at its entirety is encrypted and requires learning Nirukta or sanskrit etymology for proper understanding. A person after learning Nirukta+Nighantu(sanskrit etymology) will know that the myriad names aka pantheon is not different entities but different names of the same supreme and thus the whole veda then becomes monotheistic.

Great video. Just a minor comment - it's Atharvaveda (not Atharveda), and Yajurveda is pronounced with 'j' as in the English word jam, not the German 'j' as in jahr.
Loved this !!!! You even pronounced the words near perfectly !!!! Also your simplification of such a complex Dharma is superb . The word Dharma itself comes from the root word Dhr meaning support or hold or framework !!! Looking forward to more in this series !!! Cheers

Nice ! I suggest doing one big video, or three shorter ones, on how Hinduism branches out into the two major ”camps” of the tradition as it stands today, that is the vaishnavism, shaivism... and how that associates to the standard mytos of the religion, the triad of shiva, Vishnu and Brahma. Also a video on the later Hare Krishna movement and its effect on the western world !
@भीष्म प्रतिज्ञा I know and agree! You are right to point those things out. Although some have seen (and still see) Buddhism as separate from of Hinduism (or Sanatana Dharma). From what I understand, Buddhism has been considered as being nastika, or an unorthodox form of Hinduism; some authors have even stated that Buddhism is a “heretical” form of Hinduism. But Buddhism directly comes from Hinduism and both have many similarities. Several Hindu schools are extremely close to Buddhism in several ways, especially some yogic and tantric ones; even Advaita Vedanta could potentially be seen as almost Buddhist in some ways (especially to Westerners). The links are so obvious that they’re undeniable and one cannot totally separate Buddhism form Hinduism. Buddhism didn’t appear from a void, it started to gain importance at a time when its central ideas (detachment from samsara in order to attain nirvana, etc.) were becoming very important and were shared by many religious groups in South Asia; and therefore those concepts are of course important in Hinduism too. Even Sufism (or at least some Sufi schools), present in India at least since the time of the Mughals, supports the idea of destroying ones ego (or individual worldly self) and becoming one with God. We do have to take into consideration the diversities of both religions though; some schools in both religions can be quite different. I’m over-simplifying of course, things are far more subtle. This is why a video could be useful, especially for people who know very little about the subject.
@Anubhav Kesarwani Shaktism is In relation to the tantra, which focuses on action rather than pure asceticism. It's a form of yogic practice and is supposed to be the means of attaining transcendence in the kali Yuga, because all forms of higher transcendence (asceticism, war, etc) are lost.
Hinduism contains Sun, mountain, river, tree, serpent and other animistic worship traditions, not just literal textual tradition. This tradition of nature worship is the oldest form of religion. Hence the antiquity of Hinduism.
@@shirokun4742 u know so did the Japanese and Europeans hehe. Since the 12th century, Europeans had been eating Egyptian mummies as medicine. In later centuries unmummified corpses were passed off as mummy medicine, and eventually, some Europeans no longer cared whether the bodies they were ingesting had been mummified or not. Because the remains of a body were thought to contain the spirit of the person, it was commonly believed that by consuming the body parts one would receive the strength of the person. Didn't Hellenistic conquest ended at the gateway of India and didn't most Indian core religious/philosophical principles settled before the time of Alexander?
So called Hellenic conquest was so short lived that Alexander didn't get a mention in any contemporary as well as later Indian texts and only influence Hellas brought was Art and not philosophy.

That's a massive topic to condense into an 18 minute video. The section about the Sramanas was revelatory,. Hinduism is like a river with various tributaries, people like Wendy Doniger have focused on the tributaries more than the river & have come to a conclusion that there is no ONE river but many instead of the conclusion that there are many tributaries that join ONE big majestic river. Hindu philosophy has six different school of thoughts, all differ from each other yet the end goal is the same, not the search of divinity but of the ultimate truth. This inspiration for the ultimate truth comes from the Upanishads, but there is no one Upanishads. To understand that higher truth there are several ways, Jnana, Karma & Devotion. Hinduism is like a Banyan tree. The Banyan tree is unique among trees because the branches sprout first in it & eventually bow down to the ground & become the roots of a new tree, each providing nourishment & stability to the entire tree. The tree is a single structure but functions like a complex decentralized organisation. It's multiple roots & branches represent multiple origin & sources, all parts of the same living organism, even if the whole cannot be comprehended at one glance. Hinduism is a network, an open architecture intertwined internally & externally. It is naturally assimilative and this makes it a highly efficient system for adaptation & for the fostering of diversity.
True, it’s actually all the same religion with slightly difference in gods. Greek pantheon, Elohim Semitic pantheon, Egyptian pantheon are so alike. Hinduism is the only one that kinda survived. Although it altered massively after the Maurian Empire.

It would be great to mention the sage Dvaipayana who systematized the Vedas, introduced Itihasas (Mahabharata), and gave the commentary on Vedanta known as Bhagavata Purana. The Vedas include more than it was mentioned here. Also, there is a big dispute over the age when the Vedas were written because the prominent scientific argument place them around 1500bce because there is a word "nirvana" there, and this means it can't be before Buddha. Which is not a strong argument for one who understands Sanskrt. The video you did on Ramanuja was much more accurate. Dont get me wrong, I like your work and channel.
Beautiful, I love the fact he acknowledged that Hinduism is monotheistic, not like Islam or Christianity but very very different from polytheistic religions like Roman or Greek gods. I want to add some things- Hindus call Hinduism "Sanatan Dharma" or eternal religion. Then 4 smaller upa vedas- Ayurveda- science of health Dharnurveda- science of war Ghandharvaveda- science of art and music arthsastra- the science of policy and administration 2) Smriti- these are Hindu law books or laws like the Sharia in Islam. Ex- manusmriti (most conservation), Yajnavalkya Smriti (most liberal) Smriti are 18. 3) Itihas (that what happened)- These are Sanatan history in story form. Like Mahabharat, Ramayan, yoga Vashista, harivansa, bhagvat gita is a part of Mahabharat. 4) Puran- they make the Vedas easier to understand, contain stories of the people, Traditions, Astronomy, Medicine, Geography, and Religious Knowledge 5) agams- contain tantra, temple building, mysticism. 3 parts- one for Bhagwan Vishnu, one for Shiva, and last one for Shakti 6) darshans- 6 schools of thoughts -Nyay -vaishehika -samkhya -yoga darshna -purva mimansa -uttar mimansa

I’m interested in how Purana literature came into the picture. As the present form of Hinduism (or maybe the outward, most recognized aspects, like festivals or other performative religious practices) seems to be heavily based on Purana tradition more than Vedic.
How did you come to conclusion that Vedas came from outside to India (inward) rather went outside meaning from India to Persia (outwards) creating zoroastranism and other pagan methods in middle east... as you said the practice of veda recital was formed much older and than the vedic text itself.. can you research any proof supporting or opposing this thought?

A point on the controversial AIT/AMT: I've spent a lot of time digging in to this, and the most updated scholarship on the matter accepts that there is no evidence of an invasion (textually, historically, archeologically), but definitely evidence of gene flow. The very recent excavations and genome mapping gives us a story that lies somewhere in between: As the IVC was settled as an agricultural/pastoral society by people from the subcontinent, it attracted peoples and tribes from surrounding areas as one of the world's first urban conglomerations (Iran, Central Asia, Subcontinental Heartland, Tibet). An archaic form of PIE came to the IVC initially and (over a much longer timeline than first though) this uniquely syncretic society developed Archaic/RigVedic Sanskrit and the heart of Vedic culture, which in it's most native form evolved into modern "Hinduism" as the Saraswati dried up and moved the IVC heartland to the Ganga. At the same time, as the Vedic culture went West, it manifested in the Avesta, and as the dispersed populations traveled West to Europe, they carried the kernels of what would manifest in the Yazidi people as well.

This itself makes me happy about hinduism even though I myself don't follow many Hindu customs.
Well you are still be hindu but from a different branch

Also in Sanskrit word are generally derived from attributes, there could be a word which means 'that which holds water' it maybe present in translations as a pot or a cloud or lake etc. It could be that confusing to translate. Just a heads up

Basically Hinduism is an evolving religion whose evolution is comparable to how open source software projects work. I love the idea.
That explains why so many South Asians write articles, and make videos, about linux topics :)
Lmao, no it's not.
@Siddhant Mishra >> Subpar Abrahamic thinking
No, unlike you, however, I've actually read the Smritis and shastras and shrutis. Hinduism is not Linux. It has fixed laws.
Would like to point out that when you were initially talking about brahman, you meant a man who performed rituals. Brahman in second context means universe. You are brahman. You are the universe
True
You are God, Tat Tvam Asi, Tú eres Dios
Brahmin=a priest who performs rituals. Brahman=God. Very different pronunciations and obvioulsy spellings.
The priest is Braahman and the universe is brahman . There is difference in pronounciation
Universe is Brahmand. Brahman or Brahm is God

@@danytops4582 humanity is not a religion
Hinduism is also not a religion
@@danytops4582 hinduism is the only religion which encourages you to think according to your common sense
For example Muslim or Christians do or follow whatever their god allowed .
They don't use their brains to conclude it is good or bad
For example allah allows wife beatings in quran , so muslims can't say it is wrong . They have to justify it .
But in Hinduism lord shiva completely prohibited wife beatings meanwhile lord vishnu allows wife beatings.
So we have the choice to conclude what to do in different situations.
Another thing is in Hinduism god indra allows having physical relations with female slaves . Meanwhile god vishnu completely prohibited to make relations with women without marriage
In hinduism god narada allows us to drink alcohol and play gambling meanwhile god garuda prohibited us from gambling and alchohol .
In Hinduism god garuda says that if a women's husband die then ahe alao have to burn herself and became a sati .
Meanwhile god manu says that a widow should follow celibacy and religious lifestyle till the time of her death
Another god in Hinduism called indra said that a widow should perform niyoga and live her life happily with her brother in law .
(Arthashastra)
In Hinduism women can wear anything they like .

Appreciate your update... if you say Aryan race invaded or migrated from middle east or Europe when did that migration happen? Did they carry the vedic knowledge with them ?if so what is the connection between these vedic traditions and Harappa civilization? All seem to circle around the same thing.. BTW except for linguistic connection between indo European systs of the past, what else are connected?
BTW, I would like to counter the hia haplagroup argument since it's Gene that dated 20000 yrs old probably representing the second wave of massive migration and it is ranging from Europe to South Asia.. including North and South India.. during this migration probably there was commonality existed between.. also we are always a migrant population and native to Africa only..
@@ganapathysubramanian2029 Current Conesus on the Aryan migration is that they came into India in migrations ranging from 2000BC to 1500BC. They did bring the vedic traditions like the Rig veda which they finally put on paper around 1500 BC. The connection is that when the Aryans came into India, many of the teachings of the Vedas and Harappa intermixed and became modern Hinduism. Many of the big gods in Hinudism, like Shiva, are amalgamations of Vedic gods and non-vedic gods from Harappan.

I'm so so happy you made this video! ❤️ I've been looking at Swedish religion text books for schools and many problematic things are written especially on "Hinduism". I think we must be better at talking about non-abrahamic faiths in schools.
propoganda, a person in a western country may know nothing about hinduism but everybody knows about the caste system, why ?
same is the case with german books. All they talk about is Caste, cow, multiple gods and rebirth. Caste - which itself is a english word - tries to wrongly describe two different concepts: varna (characteristics) and Jaati (profession specialisation) system.
Abrahamic faiths mislead people on the basic questions of our existence which are beautifully explained in hinduism. The simple reason for maligning of hinduism in the west is inferiority complex in terms of true knowledge of self and the creation 🙏
First let me tell you. The term hinduism is not correct. It is imposed on us. The correct word is hindutwa. Also it is not right. We don't follow religion . It is called dharma. The real name is sanatan dharm. Not dharma.

So accurate info on the Vedas 👍
I think what most of us Hindus in India follow today is the Advaita Vedanta (non dualism) at a philosophical level and Bhakti (Devotion to your favourite deity) as the theism. Rituals followed by priests come from the Vedas (Fire or food sacrifice or Yajna ). Mythology & festivals from the two epics - Ramayan, Mahabharat & Puranas.
It will be interesting to know when we switched from Vedas to Puranas.
As I've requested earlier as well, I'd love to see a comparison of Vedic tradition and the Zoroastrianist traditions and how they diverged. Thank you for this video.

Definitely an interesting topic, thanks!
Yes- please touch on this. Houma/soma, daevas and language are bridges to them
interesting but wouldn't there be quite some massive difference like zosrastrianism being monotheist and Hinduism being polytheist but there is probably quite a few
The part of the fire rituals seems like a huge similarity. Maybe that comes from the ancient Indo-European religion.

Very helpful, thank you.

I believe the same. The universe and the whole of creation is the means by which the Brahman manifests and "dreams itself. To us it is a reality (albeit short reality) and to the universe, it exist and the it doesn't. This goes on for eternity.
Katha Upanishad might be my favorite. Nachiketa talking to the lord of Death (Yama)
Edit: and of anyone wants to learn more I'd recommend Swami Sarvapriyananda.

Hinduism contains essence of pantheism, panentheism, monotheism, polytheism and atheism to an extent. So yeah you can also call it a monotheistic.
What ever it is , doesnt mean its true. One thing I know for sure is all religions are man-made. India is full of "religious men" scamming the peoples.

Religions may be man made but it is not that simple & as a psychiatrist myself I can vouch for the fact that it is a psychic phenomenon and it's universal existence only proves that religion is not just another vestigial remnant of prehistoric human life & value system.

Great video, as always.
A video on how Buddhism evolved from Hinduism could be interesting too.

Hinduism influence on Greeks is right question
So called Hellenic conquest was so short lived that Alexander didn't get a mention in any contemporary as well as later Indian texts and only influence Hellas brought was Art and not philosophy.

To unusual degree? Ancient traditions in the Mediterranean were of the same type, before the nice Abrahamians (noone expected the Abrahamians).
True, it’s actually all the same religion with slightly difference in gods. Greek pantheon, Elohim Semitic pantheon, Egyptian pantheon are so alike. Hinduism is the only one that kinda survived. Although it altered massively after the Maurian Empire.

Sikhism was basically born as a challenger from Hinduism to Islamic invasion or Mughals mostly. But became a religion just like 200 years ago or so.

Beautiful, I love the fact he acknowledged that Hinduism is monotheistic, not like Islam or Christianity but very very different from polytheistic religions like Roman or Greek gods. I want to add some things- Hindus call Hinduism "Sanatan Dharma" or eternal religion.
Hinduism or Sanatan dharma is a religion and that's a fact, then Hinduism is not an umbrella text but there are many ways to follow Hinduism.
Hindu texts are of 6 branches_
1) Shruti- They are the 4 Vedas directly revealed by God (Ishvar/ Brahman/Parbrahman) To Rishis, translated orally for centuries then compiled.
Then 4 smaller upa vedas- Ayurveda- science of health
Dharnurveda- science of war
Ghandharvaveda- science of art and music
arthsastra- the science of policy and administration
2) Smriti- these are Hindu law books or laws like the Sharia in Islam.
4) Puran- they make the Vedas easier to understand, contain stories of the people, Traditions, Astronomy, Medicine, Geography, and Religious Knowledge
5) agams- contain tantra, temple building, mysticism. 3 parts- one for Bhagwan Vishnu, one for Shiva, and last one for Shakti
6) darshans- 6 schools of thoughts
-Nyay
-vaishehika
-samkhya
-yoga darshna
-purva mimansa
-uttar mimansa

Basically the same group killed off the cultures of the early European farmers did that the Northern Harrapan population and made a religion where they were on a higher level of society which unfortunately Indians still follow because they can’t accept what a huge lie they have been living.
he's just a westerner parroting what western indologists have been regurgitating for over 200 years about India/Hinduism. they cling to the AIT since their careers depend on it (like Witzel). Read Shrikant Talageri who demolishes the AIT absolutely and thoroughly.
Exactly my thought, thaks for putting this comment.
@@ahappyimago we have a lot of arabic words in Indian languages. Doesnt mean Arabic originated in India. For Sanskrit to be of European origin it has to first exist there AS A LANGUAGE. Not as a some commom words. There is zero work in Sanskrit anywhere outside India.
Great video! I just found your channel and I'm fired up because I know I'll be watching them all and providing my own Bashya in the comment section.
A point on the controversial AIT/AMT: I've spent a lot of time digging in to this, and the most updated scholarship on the matter accepts that there is no evidence of an invasion (textually, historically, archeologically), but definitely evidence of gene flow. The very recent excavations and genome mapping gives us a story that lies somewhere in between:
As the IVC was settled as an agricultural/pastoral society by people from the subcontinent, it attracted peoples and tribes from surrounding areas as one of the world's first urban conglomerations (Iran, Central Asia, Subcontinental Heartland, Tibet).
Chapitism is the name for asians racism asians religion is chapitism.
I am Hindu 🕉️
And Hinduism is not a religion
Religion is a Abrahamic or west ideology
Hinduism is a civilization like (Greek, Egypt, Mesopotamia, Mayans ), which is still surviving and thriving
Religion:
"the belief in and worship of a superhuman power or powers, especially a God or *gods*."
You guys believe in gods like Brahma or Shiva, you guys believe in an afterlife.
By definition, it's a religion.
The word isn't exclusive to the west
@@JimedBro religion:- where you bind up with the book 📖 and can't think further than that.
Hinduism doesn't have that philosophy, that's why Hinduism is not a religion it's a way of life and a Civilization
@@jacky3727 I googled the definitions of religion and not ONCE did I see it claiming that a religion needs to be bound by a book. HECK, ancient religions were oral and not literature. As religions are about the belief of supernatural figures not book bound.
Also, don't you guys have books about your religions as well
Civilization of caste oppression 😂
I have always enjoyed learning from the channel and it reminds me of something my papa always says " If you wish to learn something always have patience and be down to earth and make sure let go of every bit of ahankaar (Ego) in you and then you will be good student " And that's how i feel about you Filip. As in each of your video the thirst to learn and know something is seen.
Keep making such videos and content so that we can learn with you.
I am Hindu. Found this very informative. It's hard to find such a dispassionate account of the religion! The comments section is also a treat ! Wonderful work.
Vedas are not literature it's the knowledge of the self and of the superme reality.😇
"supreme reality"
This channel is more authentic than many self serving, rich modern Super Gurus of Hindus. 🙏🏼
Well framed, overall. Specifically, your treatment of the various disputed areas of understanding is balanced and very reasonable. Thanks.
You've done a good job of summarizing your sources. It's a tough subject to cover.
When we Hindus offer things via fire to God, it's called HAWAN, and have seen rarely offering food or fruits but most of the time we put cow Ghee (clarified butter from cow's milk) and different type of vanaspati and Jadiboti that is really good for human inhalation for enormous health benefits. It's called AAHUTI.
Soma drink is astringent in taste. It's mentioned in ancient sanskrit novel kadambari
Wow, I am so very appreciative of your knowledge and your interest in sharing the what's in that culture and teachings , you have my humble gratitude and I always look forward to your understandings and new videos on these subjects and other religions and the influence of and on a culture
