Rank Em All - MACHINE HEAD

- Опубліковано 8 чер 2024
- Machine Head have gotten a bad rep over the past few years because of one member's antics, but what cannot be understated is the long and interesting career they've had. Spanning 25+ years, the albums have all had something interesting to bring to the table. But let's pause with all the criticism and instead rank these albums and see which are that of legend, and which aren't. Let's rank em all.

Burn My Eyes and The More Things Change - Pantera 2.0
Burning Red and Supercharger - Nu Metal Phase
Ashes, Blackening, Locust, and Bloodstone - Masterpieces
Catharsis and Do or Die - Robb Flynn in his midlife crisis
You're not wrong. :-)
Veton Ademaj sad but true
Do or Die had shit lyrics
But I did enjoy the track after that
Your ears need a replacement, because BME and TMTC sound nothing like Pantera. Pantera was always rooted in those bluesy/southern rock aspects, which made most of their songs, especially their butt rock years, sound as party anthems. They rarely sounded morose or gothic. MH's first two records were dark as all hell and had more in common with bands like Neurosis and Discharge than Pantera.
This is so accurate. It's funny because if their Discography was just
Burn my eyes, Ashes, The Blackening Locust, and bloodstone people would see this band completely differently.
IMO The Blackening is a masterpiece.
IMO, The More Things Change is even better
The Blackening IS A Masterpiece!
by far the best
I think it's their best album. Not a big fan of the band, though.
It really is. I consider it the "Master Of Puppets" of the 2000's.
1. Unto The Locust/The Blackening
2. Through The Ashes of Empires
3. Burn My Eyes
4. Bloodstone and Diamonds
5. The More Things Change
6. The Burning Red
7. Supercharger
8. Catharsis
The Blackening is perfect, Burn My Eyes isn't far behind.
Burn My Eyes is a masterpiece
One of the best albums of 90s, easily.
@@ilikepotatoes1345 Along with Pantera's Far Beyond Drive, Prong's Cleansing, Sepultura's Choas ad and Fear Factory's Demanufacture, all groove masterpieces
@@kotanovakota You're speaking my language friend.
@@ilikepotatoes1345 Lol we should form a band together
Agreed, but The More Things Change is more diverse
Burn My Eyes is one of the best albums of 1990s, fight me.
Nobody watching this video will disagree.
No, i won’t fight you, as I agree
AGREED
It's pronounced Duh-Vid-Ian.
Please do a rank em all Pantera. I love these vids
9. Supercharger (Only The Names is a great underrated song.)
8. Catharsis (Above Supercharger cause it has Heavy Lies The Crown on it.)
7. The Burning Red (Good album, a 7 out of 10.)
6. Bloodstone & Diamonds
5. Through the Ashes of Empires (A tad bit overrated.)
4. Unto The Locust
3. Burn My Eyes (The best the band has ever sounded, but a little too much repetition and a few songs are a bit overdone.)
2. The Blackening (8 fantastic songs and no filler, song per song probably their best.)
1. The More Things Change... (Just gets better & better the more you listen to it, best groove metal album ever, IMO. Songs are diverse, but all share the same awesome cold atmosphere.)
Seen them live last month .when the burn my eyes anniversary tour comes to America do not miss it.its amazing.3hour plus show
Here's Mine:
1 - Unto the Locust
2 - The Blackening
3 - The More Things Change
4 - Burn My Eyes
5 - Bloodstone & Diamonds
6 - Through the Ashes of Empires
7 - The Burning Red
8 - Catharsis
9 - Supercharger
Unto the Loucast and The Blackening are pretty interchangeable to me
Yeah I've got unto the locust higher than the blackening and Catharsis higher than supercharger as well. Catharsis had good riffs at least where as supercharger was just boring to me
@@mickrockhard1100 honestly, Catharsis is not a bad song. And also has some passable filler, while if you remove Bulldozer from Supercharger it becomes a absolute unhearable shitstorm.
My List:
1 The Blackening
2 Burn My Eyes
3 Bloodstone and Diamonds
4 Unto the Locust
5 The More Things Change...
6 Through the Ashes of Empires
7 The Burning Red
8 Catharsis
9 Supercharger
My ranking is actually pretty similar to yours. I just have Burn My Eyes and The Blackening swapped places. Honestly, I am not sure if I like Unto The Locust or The More Things Change more. Both are really good so that’s maybe a tough call for me.
Agree with number one. I think you scored burning red too low and the more things change too high. Nailed it with catharsis tho. Hopefully Robb drops this woke snowflake bullcrap and starts making shit hot metal again.

I really appreciate how high you out Burning Red. People shit on that record cus they went in the more nu metal direction but if people weren't trained to hate stuff for the sake of being cool, they'd see its a really great album
maggotmusic757 yeah. I love that album a lot. It was originally my number two but I just have a really hard time putting it higher than Burn My Eyes
1. The Blackening
2. Through The Ashes of Empires

1. The Blackening
Through the Ashes of Empires is my favorite album of theirs with Unto the Locust as number 2. I do not own Catharsis and refuse to buy the album from what has been released on UA-cam. Burning Red is their worst
I can't say I disaghree with any spots on this list. I have to agree
Totally agree my friend!
You should be a guest on Robb Flynn’s No Fucking Regrets podcast. I think you two would have a great, insightful talk 🤘🏼

6-THROUGH THE ASHES OF THE EMPIRES
7-THE BURNING RED
8-SUPERCHARGER
9-CATHARSIS
I have a huge soft spot for supercharger and burning red as it's the time period I got into metal, nu metal initially. I agree blackening has to be number one. It's sad where they are now. Maybe they will make a triumphant return one day
The Burning Red is a good album.
James Froggatt if Robb listens to burn my eyes these days, there’s a 99% chance of Robb becoming good with lyricism again.
Bloodstone and diamonds was an amazing album with amazing songs. For me it was #2 behind the blackening. Unto the locust Is bottom 3 too
My personal favorite Machine Head albums, ranking best to worst:
1. Through The Ashes Of Empires
2. Burn My Eyes
3. The Blackening
4. The Burning Red
5. The More Things Change
6. Bloodstone & Diamonds
7. Unto The Locust
8. Supercharger
9. Catharsis
Side note I have a weird love of the burning red.
So do I. I think it's a highly underrated album. I wish more people "got it".
@@insufferablethrashelitist9305 from this day is my favorite track.
@@crucifixmegabuster95 yah I love that song too! The album has several good tracks on it, but I agree from this day is top. Title track is probably second.

9. Supercharger
8. Catharsis
7. Bloodstone & Diamonds
6. Unto the Locust
5. The Burning Red
4. Burn My Eyes
3. The More Things Change
2. Through The Ashes of Empires
1. The Blackening
Tbh, as long as Supercharger and Catharsis are out of the picture, I love em all at a similar level
1. The Blackening...I so want to put Burn My Eyes here, but I can't deny the song writing on this album.
2. Burn My Eyes...I've have never in my life experienced a pit as brutal as when Davidian opened their set in 2013.
3. Bloodstone and Diamods - Sorry I don't share your opinion here. This is a fantastic album.
4. Through the Ashes of Empires - They said goodbye to Arhue Luster here as he moved to Ill Nino where his style really turned that band into one of my favorite Nu Metal acts.
5. Unto the Locust - Darkness Within is just a plain bad ass track.
6. Catharsis - When you open your album by ripping off the opening riff of another album (The Impossibility of Reason by Chamaira) you know it's not going to be good. The Impossibility of Reason on the other hand, awesome record!
7. The More Things Change - Sorry, just felt it was really flat.
8. The Burning Red - Hate this album. It wasn't even good Nu Metal.
9. Supercharger - No.
9. Catharsis
8. Supercharger
7. The Burning Red
6. Bloodstone And Diamonds
5. Unto The Locust
4. Through The Ashes Of Empires
3. The More Things Change....
2. Burn My Eyes
1. The Blackening
We need The More Things Change on vinyl finally have Locust and Blackening

Wow! Had to check your list twice to make sure but yep... Exactly the same as mine! Good taste 😁👌
@@Two_Wolves_Within That is awesome!

5. The Burning Red
6. The More Things Change...
7. Supercharger
8. Bloodstone And Diamonds
9. Catharsis
Coverkill I will miss you please dont go full time
The blackening is the best . Also awesome your playing Gary Hoey Greensleeves, great song
Dave and Phil were Machine Head to me and I’ve been listening since the Demon Knight soundtrack.
Very much agree with this ranking :D
Do Rammstein and Crowbar! :)
I’m a sucker for Ashes. Always my personal fav!!!
Agreed. That's my #1
Bloodstone and diamonds is amazing imo, game over might be my favorite song by them
9- Supercharger
8- Bloodstone & Diamonds
7- Catharsis
6- Through The Ashes of Empires
5- Unto The Locust
4- The Burning Red
3- The Blackening
2- The More Things Change
1- Burn My Eyes
The only 2 albums that I do not need to skip any songs from are 1, 2. The rest of the ranking is based on the amount of songs that need to be skipped per album. Started listening to MH in 1994 and began following them in 1999. That might explain number 4.
Which song do you skip from The Blackening, Slanderous?
@@BirdsElopeWithTheSun09 I skip Halo and Farewell. I didn't really get into most of the long and over-melodic songs that Flynn has come up with since Halo. One can clearly hear a pre and post Halo in the MH composition style. I totally dig a Clenching or Descend the Shades but I think he over-does it with the high twin leads and harmonized vocals since Halo. I'll admit that the McClain-penned heavy riff in that song is killer though.
The burning red is the band most underrated but for me early first 2 albums are the bands best
Totally agree
Spot on in my opinion.
My definite #1 is Burn my eyes.
9. Catharsis
8. Supercharger
7. The More Things Change
6. The Burning Red
5. Bloodstone & Diamonds
4. Burn My Eyes
3. The Blackening
2. Through the Ashes of Empires
1. Unto the Locust
Yeah my list is weird. Wouldn't want it any other way.
I fucking love the burning red.
New album
Excellent list!
Though I'd replace 'The More Things Change' with 'Unto The Locust'
UTL had that death metal in it which makes it a worthy successor to The Blackening.
Also, I think 'Bloodstone & Diamonds' was placed too low, but I won't complain.
Gotta love and also hate Machine Head.
Good video with reasonable points, however my list would look quite a bit different:
1. Bloodstone and Diamonds (10/10)
2. Unto The Locust (10/10)
3. Through The Ashes of Empires (10/10)
4. Burn My Eyes (9/10)
5. The Blackening (8.5/10)
6. The Burning Red (8/10)
7. The More Things Change (8/10)
8. Catharsis (7/10)
9. Supercharger (6/10)
Did, supercharger is one of my favorite
Could we get a BTBAM rank em all?!?!
Have to disagree on supercharger. That was a solid thing.
I always thought in flames after clayman was purposefully set on to alienate their fanbase, and piss on their roots but damn I do agree machine head takes the cake to consciously destroy all the good work they have done. It's quite baffling how a band that has been behind burn my eyes, through the ashes of Empire and blackening could hit frequent lows.
1. Burn My Eyes
2. The More Things Change
...
With a huge gap comes the rest because I'm not that into it. Listened to all of it but the groovier sound from their first two records is what I like. I prefer the sound of the guitars, the vocal style, the songwriting. Of course "Tthe Blackening" features way more complex structures and amazing guitar solos but overall I'm not that into that mix of Thrash and more modern melodic elements that they played on those 4 records below.
...
3. The Blackening
4. Unto The Locust
5. Through The Ashes of Empires
6. Bloodstone and Diamonds
...
Another even bigger gap because the ones below are simply bad in my opinion.

1. Unto The Locust
Unpopular opinion... but I like unto the locust better than the blackening Im sorry lol. But probably because I am hell is my favorite machine head song. Also 2011 was an awesome year for me so I probably associate the two lol
I have always felt like B&D is way underrated, but I very much respect this list.
I remember having B&D in my cd player for months after it released, and I dont know if I burned myself out on it or if like he said it was just easily forgotten. But I loved it when I listened to it for several months lol.
It's like robb was trying to get in where he didn't fit in. Trying to hard to be an all inclusive band. Yet an album like the blackening shows what machine head should have fuckin been. And it hurts. Wasted potential.
Imo unto the Locust is their best album
My rankings before watching:
9) Catharsis
8) Supercharger
7) Burning Red
6) Bloodstone
5) Locust
4) More Things Change
3) Ashes
2) Blackening
1) BME
Supercharger has decent lyrics but sloppy ass riffs and judging by how the band looks at that time I think its worse than catharsis but catharsis got great riffs but shitty lyrics
Pantera next ? haha
sorry Coverkill, but you just CANT have Locust over Through the Ashes...HELL NO
in 2003 nobody believed in Machine Head, but MH gave us an amazing album with amazing reefs, great songwriting and the most organic sound ever!
Haven't listened to Catharsis and don't intend to, so here's the rest.
8. TBR- MH at their most Nu Metal. Production's kinda weak.
7. TTAOE- Kinda like they didn't know what to try, so they played it safe and went back to basics.
6. UTL- Arguably their most technical and experimental, but creatively it sorta felt all over the place.
5. BS&D- Felt like Locust, but more focused and a proper continuation of where the Blackening left off, where as locust felt like a left turn. .
4. Supercharger- My guilty pleasure album. Feels like MH at their most accessible. Definitely not Nu metal. Almost like Crossover thrash in a few ways.
3. BME- Absolute searing debut. Great blend of groove with Hardcore attitudes. The one nit pick is the production does give it a dated feel, but it's also part of the charm.
2. The Blackening- Wouldn't have given MH a shot if it weren't for this. The creative vision behind this and the drive to make it all a reality are to be commended.
1. TMTC- Took what BME had and built upon it. Arguably MH's heaviest and even darkest album.
The blackening is basically flawless mate like master of puppets or Ride the lightning in my opinion it’s the best metal album of the new millennium so far, I hope Robb can carve another masterpiece out of the disappointment that is catharsis.
But... RTL has Escape on it.

Catharsis doesn't deserve a rank
Burn my eyes is still one of the finest metal albums ever .. so under rated .. not a weak song on it .. Better than Master of Puppets ..
How is it underrated, almost everyone loves it

Burn my Eyes is better than The Blackening but you have everything else literally perfect. Nice job.
There is only one machine head album that matters. What they could and should have done is:
1 form
2 release burn my eyes
3 disband
If they did that, they would have a legendary status now. Everything besides that album blows chunks.
I think The Burning Red is a damn good album actually 🤘
I completely agree, but personally I’d swap The More Things Change and Unto the Locust. At this point we can only hope the band, mostly Rob, can get back to a better mindset
