Katatonia is a life defining band for me. The Great Cold Distance had a monumental impact on me.

What can I say I'm a sucker for their gothy metal over their black metal sound. Jonas can sing well now supposed to the 90s era and he is such a great lyric writer.
Katatonia is my favorite band! Thanks for doing this video. I can't make a list because I love all of their albums but the ones that I continuously return to are Tonight's Decision and Night Is The New Day.

Nice, these guys are fantastic and don't get nearly enough attention. Damn solid discography too, can't go wrong with any of it and ranking them is indeed a daunting task. But for me, it goes:

Nice work man. I know you're shutting it down and moving on, but you've led me towards a lot of bands I love today. This band is the latest. Odds are I never listen to them. Right now I'm hooked on The fall of hearts album. Brilliant.

I can't say I agree with the album order. But I love Katatonia! They have been my favorite band ever since discovering them in 2006! They are the band who kept me happy during the decade+ Tool drought. All their songs are amazing and I buy the versions of their CDs that contain all the bonus tracks (still waiting for TFOH to receive that treatment). I admittedly have never liked growling in my music though, so I was soooo glad Katatonia got rid of that (the band Klone is thankfully doing the same thing and are another band I highly recommend with their latest LE GRAND VOYAGE album). But anyways if I rank the Katatonia CDs, it would be like this:

Did anyone else fall hopelessly and desperately in love with Unfurl? Its lives in my dreams and nightmares to this day and although I love it so much it terrifies me to death
Discouraged Ones is my favorite. Can’t believe it was bottom of list. It’s probably their darkest, atmospheric and moody album imo. “Saw You Drown” is a devastatingly beautiful song

It's one of my absolute favorite bands, alongside Priest, Maiden and Bride. Ranking their albums is a very hard task, but here it is.

I think that Viva Emptiness should be the winner in a list by every Katatonia fan. The only Katatonia album does not contain even one song that can be characterized as decent. Every song in this album is from very good to masterpiece + the album works great as a whole. Clearly their magnum opus.
Next is Opeth and Porcupine Tree?
He's already done both these excellent bands!! (The Opeth is from just before Sorceress came out! While the Porcupine Tree one is from 2018!!)

The Great Cold Distance is my favorite Katatonia album, and probably my favorite album of all time. In the White is such a great song, and it hits the spot ya know what I mean
Nice choices. I don't agree with all of them but I mean any Katatonia album is a worthy #1. They're just that good. Plus they came out of their hiatus this year and hopefully we'll get more music soon.

Wow my top ten is almost completely different but to each their own. They are recording a new album in 2020 by the way to answer the question you wondered. That's what they hinted with a pic of them in the studio anyway.
In my opinion, You are the best metal reviewer of all time and we really really miss you. Now, we have to listen an old haggard's review who praised all the albums released in the last two years. No album is bad for him. We are tired of listening to such bull sheets. CoverKillernation, please come back and enrich us with your powerful metallic review. I'm a big fan (55 years) of you. Love from Bangladesh.
My list would look pretty different from yours but what I really appreciate is that you put Tonight's Decision in the top spot. Though I wouldn't rank it number one (that would be NITND for me) I would definitely rank it in the upper half, maybe even top 3. It was the first Katatonia album I listened to and thus has a special place in my heart. I think it is somewhat underrated in their discography. I think for most people it is overshadowed by LFDGD, but for me I still prefer Tonight's Decision and for similar reasons that you put it at number one. It is a very consistent album, easy to listen to from start to finish and it never gets old. Granted, LFDGD has some cuts that are better (Teargas, Clean Today, Sweet Nurse) but it is a bit long and some songs might even be considered filler material. It's more refined production wise, but I find it harder to listen to the whole album.

Katatonia actually came back for the 10th anniversary of Night Is the New Day. They played a few shows and released a special edition of that album, but I don’t think I’ve seen any news or hints of a new album
They are actually in the studio now recording a new album.

How hard it is to rank Katatonia's albums. Great job! I can't do it. But your number one is solid. Would be between that one and A Great Cold Distance for me, because that one introduced me to the band so it is a meaningful one for little old me.
Last Fair is my favorite mostly because of Sweet Nurse and Tonights Music. Dark Tranquility or Rotting Christ!
Been a major Katatonia fan for the last 12 years, and The Fall of Hearts is definitely my favorite, but I like how there is no universally agreed upon "best Katatonia album."

I wouldn't have put Dead End Kings as low as it is on your list simply because Hypnone is my favorite song by them. That solo is so simple, but it pierces your heart every time you hear it. A lot like Opeth, Katatonia does not have bad albums, which is why I can see how rating this albums is so subjective.

I absolutely adore their early stuffs, including Tonight's Decision, which was the album that I was initially reluctant to listen to after reading all of the online reviews which were mostly mixed and negative -- this one made me realise that one must not act on the basis other people's opinions, tastes are pretty subjective, so grab the album and find out for yourself whether it was worth it or not. This ended up being the band's only album post-Sounds of Decay EP that I thoroughly enjoyed. So many memorable tracks on it and my favourite one being the Black Session, and I equally love that melodic section right towards the end of A Darkness Coming.

I am going to cheat and say that my favourite is "Last Fair Day Gone Night". While I love all Katatonia's eras, rock/The Cure inspired is my favourite and this live version of LFDGD (which is in my top 3 for sentimental reasons) is just amazing.

This is easily one of my favorite bands. I have all their albums, and I’ve been collected them for years.
However, the Great Cold Distance is my favorite. There’s just something so disturbing about that album.
I feel The Fall of Hearts is their magnum opus. If they wanted to quit making music this would be a phenomenal album to end their career. I hope not though. My personal ranking:

personally, i find it difficult to revisit tonight's decision. i would have to place it near the bottom. although it opens up quite strongly with for my demons and has great artwork, the drumming and overall performance feels weak. the jeff buckley cover stands out as one of the strongest songs, but i prefer to listen to the original. i feel like tonight's decision is really their first foray into the more clean vocal rock style since discouraged ones musically, stylistically, rhythmically is still somewhat more reminiscent of brave murder day. i actually think the songs on discouraged ones are better as a whole as i prefer its brave-murder-day-but-with-clean-vocals feel. this band has come a long way and just keeps getting better, especially jonas' vocals. looking forward to more great albums from them!
