To be fair Luka was so underrated in that draft. The vast majority of Americans didn't have a clue who he was, 2 teams passed on him and he was selected just because Donnie Nelson convinced Mark Cuban how great Luka is. And let's not forget that Mark Cuban passed on Giannis in the past. Rick Carlisle played Luka because he was forced to. Carlisle hates to play young players. That is one of the reasons why Brunson and Josh Green barely saw the court and played when there were no other options. Ironically, Mavs were super lucky to get Luka with 5th pick and Brunson with 33rd. Still, the whole organization sucks from top to bottom as they don't believe in their players. Thanks God, Jaden Hardy sees far more minutes than Brunson and Josh Green did in their rookie season.

With that attributes his salary is way higher for his skills. No sane front office will want him as a piece in a trade. He got this hefty paycheck because he had a great performance in the second series against the Clippers (where to be fair only him and Luka showed up). C Wood on the other hand is better defender and significantly better shooter but he has been in multiple teams which makes every FO suspicious about him. I think the Mavs got rid of C Wood just because they wanted to clear his salary. That's why they lost him for nothing just like they lost Steve Nash and Jalen Brunson.
