This book shows how Pakistan is an unusual ally for the US in that it is a military state, controlled by its army. The Pakistan military not only defines policy - it is entrenched in the corporate sector and controls the country's largest companies. So Pakistan's economic base, its companies and its main assets, are in the hands of a tiny minority of senior army officials. This merging of the military and corporate sectors has powerful consequences. Ayesha Siddiqa's book, "Military Inc." analyses the internal and external dynamics of this gradual power-building and its larger impact that it is having on Pakistan's relationship with the United States and the wider world.

excellent analysis. Pakistan Army controls the lands of locals as we are victims of it. Normally you can observe their colonies that have all facilities and for locals its totally ban even to enter in it. Pakistan Army has take control on our village road because their cantonment area (Military residence ) is nearby. Thats totally unfair because this road ban has created huge problems to reach in schools or hospital for locals. I as a local citizen of Pakistan i strongly agree with the analysis of Ayesha Siddiqa.

The iron lady of Pakistan ❤ who dares to write and speak about the holy cows or better call black sheeps -who did a planned murder of a Democratic and a prosperous Pakistan. Obviously not our all soldiers are part of that back-sheep fraternity who sacrifices their lives for the beloved country but a certain echelon of the military who always prefer personal gains , who turned our beloved state into a security state. Value of Assets 26 billion dollars, 10 percent profit means 8000 billion rupee = Pakistan's total budget.
Having working in on of these entities, I can surely say that these kind of highly professional organizations are example for other industries in the country. They are creating jobs for people like myself and other civilians, and are pride for the nation. Its a matter of taking initiative which unfortunately is not taken by Government, then whoever is taking this initiative let us support them instead of making an issue out of it.

Army cement, army groceries, army fertilizers, army sugar supplies, army real estate.....the list goes on. How can a private company flourish? how can the industry grow? nothing happens in Pakistan unless the businessman shakes hands with the puppet government + army and lives under its shadow.
You guys manufacture 0.2 million cars per year. We manufacture 5.5 million cars per year. The government doesn't interfere in private companies. The army doesn't even look towards civilians except during natural calamities where they help in a very big way as part of disaster management. Of course, Government officials expect some bribes for utility sanctions etc., but, that's it.
