I remember the surprise on Ali's face when he stuck a jab into Leon Spinks' gut in their rematch and Spinks winced. Boxers being stopped outright by body shots seems to be a recent phenomenon. I know pros talk about wearing a man down with them, but the modern fighter seems soft in the middle compared to those of 50 years ago and more.
I cry every time I watch these old tapes. It takes me directly back to youth. I was 10 years old when this fight happened and remember it like it was yesterday. RIP Ali and Smokin Joe!
