- In this video, I explain why depression in men is an important issue and how men often are reluctant to seek treatment. I then review normal sadness versus major depression. I discuss the typical symptoms of depression and how depression often presents differently in men. I reinforce that depression is not a sign of weakness and try to encourage men to see a professional if they are struggling. Finally, I give suggestions to men and those trying to help them as to how to seek treatment.

Thank you, Dr.K.
Simply encouraging men to seek guidance and being curious about their interior lives seems more important than ever.
You're welcome. I agree completely with what you said!
I work in Behavioral Health and I am currently working to become an RN. I been diagnosed with Severe Major Depressive Disorder.
Thanks for sharing your experience. I hope you find whatever help you need to be well.
Just had my spouse listen to this with me. He's one of those "I'm fine" guys. His doctor & I have encouraged him to join a men's group, and he is starting next week. I asked him how he would feel if there were a lot of depressed guys in the group. He laughed and said he would feel happy because he's not depressed! We will see.
I’m glad he’s joining a men’s group. That can be a powerful positive experience. Most of us men weren’t raised to be in touch with how we’re actually doing, and it can be easy for us to be disconnected from ourselves. Best of wishes to both of you.
in a society that disowns men as it is and laughs at them if they have more then one emotion in their soul, it should never be a debate whether or not to seek council from other men in the same situation
Thank you - sincerely appreciate this video.
You’re welcome! I’m glad it was helpful. Best wishes to you.
The last psychiatrist almost killed me with over mediation. I’m not happy with the so called mental health junk , sadly shrinks are to protected from malpractice suits
I'm sorry to hear that you've had such negative experiences. I hope you find someone you can trust and feel comfortable with who can help you.
Mental health reform is needed . I later found out I’m a HSP empath . Drove taxi and night 12 hour shifts . People were open up and tell me their problems and I didn’t know emotional intelligence now it’s getting depressed. Depression is a mood. Emotions are separate from modes but if you’re saturated you’re always depressed. There’s a lot of jobs people aren’t suited for. I’m discovering so I studied a bit of psychology on this. I’m reiki master teacher .
Thanks for sharing that. The system’s broken. There are good people out there though but unfortunately some who shouldn’t be in the business. Hopefully you’ve found a better path for yourself.
