I would LOVE a comparison video of WHW and GGW! Im looking at doing 1 (maybe both?) as my first long trek. I loved your WHW videos and would really enjoyed this one as well! ❤
Thank you! :) We will put a comparison video out in the next month. I would highly suggest both if you can do it - they are both different but we will share more on the comparison video!
Ive done both in 10 days WHW is way better, GGW was also nice but you dont actually see much of the lake! Also Loch Lomond is the king of lakes here in Scotland. Some of the climnb on GGW were harder the on WHW which was surprising lol...anyway if you just want to do one when WHW all the way!
My Friend and I just completed this in two on mountain bikes, we went the opposite way Inverness - Fort William, staying over at Fort Augustus for a night we may have passed you. Have been really enjoying you vlogs along the WHW and now the GGW, and i agree, Scotland would welcome you, always nice to add to the population that appreciate what we have here. :)
Love you guys too!! ❤️❤️And yes, I don’t know you either but who in this world can’t use another Grandma to cheer you on! Great video, kids!! And I’m always looking forward to our next walk! Love & Blessings on your way!! ❤️🙏🏻
I’m from the UK, Wales, and am currently in Scotland and have been coming here since the late 80’s. I’ve never even heard of the Great Glen Way, so thank you for enlightening me! It looks more appealing than the WHW, perfect for camping at the edge of the loch, an early morning dip perhaps. It’s funny how somewhere grabs you, that feeling you get. For me, having lived there since 2006, it’s Vancouver island, the place I feel right. Looking forward to seeing more of your travels. 🙏
Yes we LOVED the Great Glen Way. So beautiful, peaceful, and just had this energy about it...Vancouver Island is magical! We love it there too. We used to 'live across the water' in Port Townsend. We try to visit BC at least once a year as it is breathtaking.
@@vanhallaadventures I've been to port Townsend, there some great old buildings there, and down the peninsula to La Push, we had a great long weekend there. 👍
Oh I am so glad to see you back ! I am looking forward to you see you walk through all that glorious landscape ! I hope you have good weather and strong feet. Good luck. Much love from California ! 💕🌷
Aw thank you Yvonne! Hope you are well in California :) and you aren't getting too much smoke from any fires this year! I think last year was pretty bad and I know N Cali was having a big fire earlier this summer.
Aw we are so happy and excited for you! We LOVED the GGW -it's beautiful :) If you have the opportunity - the Glenmoriston Arms hotel has INCREDIBLE food. The next vidoe coming out this Saturday will show it. I literally almost died of pure joy lol.
Another great vlog. I love how you keep things real. Keep being your authentic selves. It is a real bonus to see prices of things and have good reviews of the places you stay.
Would love a comparison video! Have just done the WHW the week before last and already thinking about doing the GGW in spring. Your videos were so helpful for preparing for the WHW ☺️
Wow, brings back some lovely memories, we mtb cycled this route back in 2018, it's beautiful, stay as much as you can to the route markers, honestly, it's not easy, but a wonderful experience, have a beautiful journey...👌🏻❤️🏴
This would be a wonderful bike route! We only ended up seeing a couple walkers the entire time though a few bikers. It must have been an incredible ride!
Love your video diary. brings back lovely memories of my adventure on the Great glen Way. The clover you spotted at 12;00 minutes is actually Woodland Sorrel, a wild herb.
Yes a comparison would be great. As an older person who has been sedentary with arthritis I wonder if doing six mile increments and planning is reasonable. Is there lodging to plan that or could an Uber pick up be possible if the undertaking is too much?
Hi Beverly. I am Scottish and for someone with your condition I would recommend the Fife Coastal Path, as Uber is confined to the major cities in Scotland. The FCP's a 117 mile trek, and passes through Fife's fishing villages. There is lots of accommodation en route, regular bus services, taxis etc. It's a criminally overlooked walk, as there is a lot of history including the Wemyss caves, which contain Pictish cave art, and it takes you under the Forth Bridges and through some beautiful coastal towns and villages, including Anstruther (home of arguably the most famous and one of the best fish and chip shops in Scotland), St. Andrews (home of golf), Culross (home of the TV series Outlander, although the residents aren't too happy with the massive increase in bus tours these days, as I live nearby). I hope this helps.
@@rixubishi thank you for this wonderful advice. I will immediately begin to find out the particulars but it does sound perfect for me. Coastal views are my favorite. Thank you. This makes me happy.
So now I'm here.... Be interesting to see how this trek compares to the WHW. Big Q - Should I tackle this one next? I like solitude & enjoyed going solo but it was reassuring to know there were others passing me on the other trail. Thanks for this one. Feel sorry for your feet/ankle, Crystal. So glad I'm already well used to walking miles many days each week.
Hi Marie :) Thank you! I have found that everyone is different BUT most people tend to like Hoka's and Altra trail shoes. I have both but I always use my Altra's now as they have a wide toe box so I can wrap my feet in moleskin to prevent blisters and have plenty of room without my toes getting squished. They are zero drop shoes and that doesn't work well for me so I put in some insoles for more arch support and really like that. I would say the best shoes are ones that you can walk comfortably everyday for several miles. If you are in the USA, I would go to REI and purchase a pair and try them out for 3-4 days of consistent walking and see how you feel. REI allows for returns even after they are worn which is really nice. If you are not in the USA I would contact a place in your area that allows this same sort of thing so you know you have the perfect shoes for your trek! Scotland does rain though even when it rained I used my non-waterproof altra's BUT I think if I was going in Fall or Spring I mighgt use waterproof ones. Hope this helps!
Thanks for this wonderful video. What month did you walk? We hiked the WHW a year ago, and are looking into the GGW. Did you find it anticlimactic after the WHW?
Brian there’s a word in Scotland that says hawd yer weesht it means don’t open your mouth.because the rocks will appear and the midge will turn up.👍🏴🥴🇺🇸
Now you know of one of the many reasons the english want Scotland as a permanent part of the UK . There are trillions of pounds of money in our untapped lands laden with natural resources and the english want them . Great video guys ... spectacular video in fact .Walking along the highway reminded me of my year in Upstate New York in 1987 ...that was the way to walk from town to town ...unless you had a car .
My family had a boat, we lived on the West coast. My dad always said he would through me in that canal,so i would find a rich husband!!!!! Shame we moved to England when i was 15, missed my chance.
Interesting how you were talking about giving back to the land, then later on you noticed that you lost your sunglasses from Hawaii when you did your business. The next person who finds it might return it to you if they happen to follow you on UA-cam. If you were to move to Scotland would you live in a city or rural area? What about both your jobs plus you would probably need work visas to work in the UK. I worry about your feet and spine because I have similar issues to yours and I love to hike too. Good luck deciding what to do next in your journey with your husband.
Sadly I tried those and they didn't work for me. Plus with asphalt walking I know the barefoot shoes can be damaging. My foot specialist gave me some good advice and as I walk more it does get better over time. But I do appreciate barefoot shoes for some occasions. I appreciate the concern :)

I'm confused - where did the suitcases come from?
We do luggage transport as we travel FT and we like to keep our load light when walking since we carry cameras. it just makes it easier for us.
At Inverness not in Inverness
