    Thank you so much for this! I need to use this camera for a small video shoot soon, and I’ve never used anything more complicated than an iPhone to shoot video before. As a busy working mama with zero experience with cameras (and their terminology) and very limited time, this gave me a very quick and useful overview. I deeply appreciate the effort you put into this!

    Hi there Robin. I forgot you had a video about this camera for video - thank you for that. Gladly you came up in my search. My question is about making small videos just for social media and YT about my woodworking. I'm not happy with my smatphone. And my feeling is that I'll get better options. And its cheaper to get a 2nd hand camera like this or OM-D E-M1 Mark II then a recent top of the line smartphone. My question are these modes still ok for today's social media videos? Any sugestions, coments are more than welcome. Thank you for your time. All the best

    Appreciate your stepping us through the settings you chose for your Robin in the City film. I think most folks are likewise video noobs so we are on your side - - no need to apologize! Really enjoying this series of instructional videos. Olympus should see a bump in sales as people learn how to actually use their feature-rich camera after watching your posts.

    Thanks for the video and the information. I'm about to buy the E-M5 III or the E-M1 II, but I don't know how important is the OM-LOG 400. Is it an essential feature to create a good video? Does the quality of dynamic range and video in general improve a lot?
    Thanks a lot for all your videos, all of them are fantastic!

    • @robinwong
      @robinwong  5 років тому

      I have not personally used the OM-LOG400 honestly, so I cannot answer your question. It is made for those who want to do color grading for their video, and the log profile allows more freedom and headroom for extensive adjustments. Other than that, if you are a simple person like me, not much color grading or editing done to the videos, the normal profiles work just fine.

    Hi Robin - thanks for the video(s) - very informative and helpful.
    Your short film was very impressive for someone not regularly shooting videos - it looks great to me!
    I've been waiting for the MkIII for a couple of years having thought the MkII was a nice 'all round' camera (I don't own just tried it out).
    My question is I need an 'all rounder' camera for travel and street photography and video (I'm still using my old Nikon P7800) but my major considerations are ease of use and compact (and lightweight) form - so would really like to choose 1 compact lens that is suitable for both general travel photography and for video.
    I should add, that I'd like some zoom capability from the lens. My P7800 gives me 3x optical - that would be enough.
    I know very little about lenses as this would be my first interchangable lens camera. What one lens would you recommend that would be suitable for my needs??
    Thanks!
    p.s. shame about the move to more plastic in the body! :-( Loved the feel of the MkII

    • @robinwong
      @robinwong  5 років тому +1

      Thanks for the kind words, appreciate it much! Go for the M.Zuiko 12-40mm F2.8 PRO, you get about 3x zoom and a bit more, and the lens s bright at F2.8, with weather sealing!

    • @TheRealJapan

      @@robinwong Thanks for the suggestion. Honestly, it's probably out of my price range at the moment. Maybe I'll look for a more compact zoom option.

    Hi Robin, thanks for your 'in the city' video and this commentary. The small primes are a great fit for the EM5iii but should probably mention that they're not weather sealed. How much did that limit you during the heavy rainfall?

    • @robinwong
      @robinwong  5 років тому +2

      Not at all. I was shooting with the 45mm F1.8, so it was from a safe distance. I did walk in the rain with the camera but not when it was pouring heavily.

    Hi Robin, great video (as always). I have a 5mii that I am trying to use for video, but I cannot get it to focus. Unlike with photos, pressing the shutter half way does not activate the focus. I have to fully depress it, then the camera will choose what to focus on and THEN it will start the recording (this lag is sometimes several seconds) This happens with all my Olympus lenses and third party lenses in Single, Continuous, and Tracking modes. The same issue happens using the touch screen focus. I touch the screen, but the camera won’t try to focus on that area until after I hit record, so I don’t know if it’s going to get the focus right until after the critical moment. Have I maybe clicked the wrong setting in the menu?

  • @tenzinpeljor

    Hi Robin, I made just an interesting observation - and just shared it with Peter Forsegård in a comment to one of his videos on the E-M5 Mark III: I just used the E-M5 Mark III via Elgato Link Cam Link 4k as a webcam - with full risk it stops during the meeting - and, interestingly, the battery worked for 123 minutes! So I was able to use one battery load for 2 hours. Now, with respect to the experience made by Robin Wong, who could only use the battery for 30 minutes continuously video recording, maybe Olympus put a 30 minutes restriction on it for video recording because - as I read in an article- if there is more than 30 minutes of continuous video recording the camera is treated by tax import authorities as a video camcorder and the European authorities (at least) seem to charge higher taxes for video recorders than cameras and camera sellers of cameras want usually, as the article claimed, bypass these higher taxes and put a 30 minutes restriction on video camera. What do you think?

    Is there any way to have the camera continue recording past the 29 minute max. I understand the automatic creation of files after a video goes beyond the 4 gig size, but as I try to video tape beyond 29 minutes, I have to be right on top of the camera to start the recording again. Is there a work around for this? Thanks in advance.

    • @TimothyGordon
      @TimothyGordon 4 роки тому

      Tim Barrage there is not but you can get an external recorder, for example the Atomos Ninja V. Otherwise, investigate micro four thirds cameras with no recording limit G85, G95, GH4, GH5, etc.

      As I have mentioned, you need to switch for different scenarios. For maximum stabilization, use movie stabilization 1. For non cropped footage, use stabilization 2. Also, the 5-Axis IS in E-M5 Mark III is not the same as on E-M10 Mark III so you can't really compare.
