Totally right! On Live Evil, Dio was singing Ozzy's Black Sabbath.. it didn't fit!(my own opinion and perspective) At the time of Dio's last days touring with Black Sabbath, They changed the name of the band to Heaven and Hell, I still don't know if it was as a tribute to Ronnie James Dio in life. For all they'd played was all Dio's era with Black Sabbath.
That happened for 2 reasons 1. Dio didn't like singing Ozzy era songs. Felt they were beneath him 2. Ozzy and Tony Iommi went to court over the Sabbath name. Tony believed it was his since he was the only original member throughout every version of Sabbath. Ozzy felt it belongs to all 4 original members.
This is cool! Love Tony Iommi, but as fan of Black Sabbath I would give it to Ozzy. At the end of all things, it usually happens, when a band reaches fame and they become rich on money, there are always these kind of disputes, I've seen this in a lot on break ups and on the case of Black Sabbath the only fair thing was to split it in four parts. They were epic and unique for their time. All of them four!
Dio is the superior vocalist. Very few heavy metal singers can compare to his grasp of using the human voice for harmonic melody. With that said, Ozzy has a presence to his voice, and it is completely unique. As Vin said, it is amazing that Sabbaths sound changed so much just from the switch from Ozzy to Dio. It's no surprise that either one of them don't want to sing songs from the others era, because the songs don't fit each others style.
@@brianpalmer307 It was also Dio's favourite part. Dmitry M. Epstein: You’ve written, I guess, several hundreds of songs. But if you were to pick the most cherished lyric what would that be? Greatest metal singer ever!!! I'll give you my Dio story. I "actually" was lucky enough to meet him a few times. The first time was in 1993 when he was in Sabbath for the 2nd time. There was only a few of us standing outside. he said Hello and singed what ever we had. It was cool. It was a theater sized show, so it was just at the start of the hard times for metal. 2nd time I met him It was 2 years later (Strange highways tour, one of my favorite albums from him) There were quite a few of us in outside at a larger club maybe 1/3 capacity of a theater (this gut sold out arenas in the 80s). He set up in one of the empty trailers with a table and chair and let every on in a few at a time and singed everyone stuff.I was the last to get in and get an autograph, Dio looks at me and says "Ah, your truly the last in line". That always will be a fond memory. i met him one more time at the same club on the next tour. Thia time he just stood outside with us he spent a half hour talking to us and singing autographs. Even at the lowest point in his career he was humble nice and as always good to his fans.
I had the honor of meeting him a couple of times myself. The best part, he literally remembered my name when I saw him backstage the second time. My group was also the last in line both times we met. Which meant we hung out with the band for almost an hour each time.
I would like to see a reaction of some Paul Dianno era stuff, Phantom of the Opera, Killers, Prowler. I don't see many reaction channels dive into Maiden's first two albums too much. It would be interesting them compare the difference in styles between the two singers
Heaven and Hell is easily my favorite Sabbath album. Every song is great. Not only did Dio bring phenomenal lyrics and a powerful voice to Sabbath he also brought amazing harmonies. Great answer! The band's music changed so much through the career so it's hard to compare someone like Ronnie to Ozzy. The band had changed a lot by then. And yes, Tony Martin was awesome too :)

One of my favorite reactions you guys have done. Amazing song. One of the top metal songs all time for me and a definite 10 out of 10. I remember reading a interview with Ronnie at one point where he talked about the meaning of the whole bit about the "Dancer" but I can't recall what the deal was. Dio was incredible live. A man small in stature but positively massive in voice. I saw him at an incredible live so in the DC area with Maiden and Motorhead. One hell of a lineup to be sure. Even as Dio was slowly and probably painfully dying of cancer the dude never stopped taking time to meet with his fans. He had a reputation for being of the sweetest guys in metal. Black Sabbath with Ronnie James Dio...I am ready for this one...I predict you will like Dio. Ronnie is the ultimate metal singer. My Dio story. I met him in the late 80s after a concert in California. Ronnie was famous for talking to every last fan that waited for him after shows. We got to talking and it came up that I was from Chicago, well Ronnie was a huge Chicago Bears fan so we talked Bears for a few minutes. Well maybe 3 years later I got a chance to meet him again...he immediately recognized me and was like "Chicago!"...I could not believe that this guy who probably meets thousands upon thousands of people every year remembered me. If you listen to some of the tributes/remembrances from other metal personalities you will find Dio always counseled others to be great to their fans. With Dio it was always about you - he truly was a giver. Good discussion around the “giver” and “taker” line in this song. The Beatles summed it up well with their line “and in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make”
The charity in Dio's name is a cancer foundation as he died from cancer. I absolutely love this track, the album is stunning also. Ronnie did not believe in heaven nor hell, he said in an interview that he believes that heaven and hell is here on earth, saying that we effectively make our own heaven and we make our own hell. +Vinand Sori Ronald James Padavona (July 10, 1942 - May 16, 2010), known professionally as Ronnie James Dio or simply Dio, was an American singer, songwriter, and musician. He fronted and/or founded numerous groups including Elf, Rainbow, Black Sabbath, Dio, and Heaven & Hell. He is credited with popularizing the "metal horns" hand gesture in metal culture and was known for his medieval-themed lyrics. *Ronnie James Dio was known for popularizing the sign of the horns in heavy metal. He claimed his Italian grandmother used it to ward off the evil eye (which is known in Southern Italy as malocchio). Dio began using the sign soon after joining the metal band Black Sabbath in 1979*
Dio's vocals are a delight to listen to in two ways. The range of the notes his voice can reach is amazing on its own. On the other hand (and that is what like the most), his voice changes colors throughout his songs in such ways, it's like listening to a story your granfather tells you. He delivers drama. One of the reasons that make him such a good performer and why people love him (RIP... try Stargazer from Rainbow)
Well now that you’ve done this. You absolutely have to do the song “Stargazer” by Rainbow. It’s another band that dio was in and it’s a phenomenal song!
Really love this song. Ronnie had his own style and sang mostly about magic, dragons and the youth. He gave so much and he had a charity to help out runaways in LA. I think his wife started a charity for research for stomach cancer which is what ultimately killed him. His voice is just magical. I never realized how his death was going to affect me until he's gone. I never got to see him sing live, but now I'm making sure to see my heroes live before its too late.
An interesting conversation and a good solid 9.5. Agreed. Love how you chat about the lyrics. However you never really chat about the musicianship. Would be good to hear you thoughts about the rest of the band. React to all aspects. Keep up the good work though. Love from Scotland.
So happy you guys did this song! It's been one of my favorites of all time for about 12 years now. I listen to it every now and then on a regular basis and I think I'll keep listening to it for the rest of my life.

mohamed salah he got the hand gestures from his grandmother who would do that to ward off evil spirits. He made it popular on stage and is credited with its musical meaning and implementation

Dio is a legend, such a powerful voice and every word he sings you hear crystal clear. For myself, Dio, Halford and Dickinson are the great singers of metal, powerhouses yes, but also capable of a beautiful melodic form of singing. Ozzy is a legendary frontman due to his great energy particularly live and he is actually a good vocalist, although I think his best work is his solo stuff with his own band. Ozzy and Black Sabbath go together better as a band than Dio and Black Sabbath overall, but Heaven and Hell is one of the best Black Sabbath songs period. Definitely worth checking out some more Dio; in any form- Rainbow, Dio or Black Sabbath.
React to Sodom. They're a German Thrash metal band who had a big influence on the early black metal and death metal scenes. Any of these songs would be fine - Nuclear Winter - Christ Passion - Agent Orange
Stargazer next, please!!! It has a nice metaphor for false prophets. You guys should watch videos of Dio talking about the meaning behind his lyrics and religion, its really sober. Cya
One of the greatest Metal songs of all time. Could barely contain myself from headbanging through it ( nah, I banged), nearly brought a tear to my eye. As someone earlier suggested 'Die Young' would be another great choice.
I was able to watch his show about a year before he passed away. It was a great experience, I always found it incredible (at least for me) as it conveyed so many good vibes live.
I really like this video. Thanks for doing what you do. I'm new to Dio and I'm interested in people's takes on it. I really enjoy your perspective coming from a spiritual background. Keep up the great work! More Dio!!!
You guys should review this whole record!! It is awesome from beginning to end! Plus, do a review on Godsmack "Keep Away" or Whitesnake "Still of the Night"
Ronnie James Dio arguably the best singer and songwriter in metal history, he died of stomach cancer in 2010, the greatest loss in metal history as well, he changed Black Sabbath for the better and the albums he did with Black Sabbath ran circles around Ozzy era Sabbath imho. Dio solo albums are epic as well, check out Dio Don't Talk To Strangers from Holy Diver and Egypt (The Chains Are On) from The Last In Line and Voodoo from the Mob Rules album. I has the great pleasure of seeing Ronnie James Dio perform with Black Sabbath and Dio (The Band) and those performances changed my life for the better. Definitely do more Ronnie James Dio reactions you'll love it. Also Ronnie James Dio was in the band Rainbow, Gates Of Babylon or Stargazer are ones you need to review/react to. Great job Vin and Sori!!!! 🤘🤘
No. Dio wanted to change black sabbath into a one man show. Black sabbath is all about down tuned guitars but some dude named dio wanted it to be a band focused on singing.
LOL!!! If for "better, you mean changed them into a generic heavy metal band with no character, or guts...I guess so...but Sabbath with Ozzy was a much heavier, rawer, and gutsier band...imho.
first let me say that im soooooo happy and relieved that you like ronny. hes so amazing. and also a suggestion for a charity in my opinion is St. Judes. i have donated to them for a few years and all the information i can find seems that they are legit and completely non profit. the aspca would probably be the only other one i would consider but cant really afford to give to 2 charities at this point in my life. also have done no research on them. but anyway i love ozzy and always will but ronny james dio is such an important and awesome person for metal and just in general. thanks you two for such a great channel . i look forward to your posts daily

Well now you have to do Rainbow - Stargazer. Its Ronnie James Dio before he went solo and before Sabbath. His vocals are mindblowing. 40 yrs later I get goosebumps and tears in my eyes. Ronnie was a gift. Btw, he died of cancer and once a year his wife puts on a Ride for Ronnie stand up and shout at cancer fundraiser. We meet in LA at a Harley dealership do a massive group ride to a park where lots of famous stars play Ronie's songs. They do silent auctions etc.. they raise the money for cancer. You should look into it. I have gone twice and plan on going again in 2019
I was at work today wondering what you guys were going to react to today. Might be a Sabbath day, Heaven and He'll maybe? I came home for lunch and checked my phone and I was right.🤘Love the song and good reaction. I loved it when Vin said "This guy blows Ozzy away" Dio has always been an interesting song writer. It doesn't want to make it too obvious. He wants you to think.
When this album was recorded, Ronnie Dio had already been a professional musician for 21 years. His first record was in 1959. Musically, Dio Sabbath has very little in common with Ozzy Sabbath, but it does have a lot in common with Rainbow, Ronnie's previous band (with Ritchie Blackmore of Deep Purple).
Dio is the greatest metal singer and Lyricist ever. Ask any famous metal singers or band members. Iron Maiden's Steve Harris comes in second on the lyrics.
Ozzy's "whinyness" in his voice is kind of his trademark. It's not for everybody, I suppose. But Dio is the superior singer in pretty much every aspect. There's not even a discussion about it. He's one of the alltime greats of rock/metal vocalists. You might want to check out his earlier work in Rainbow (Stargazer) or his Solo stuff (Rainbow in the Dark, Don't Talk to Strangers). He was also an extremely interesting perosn. There's a short interview of him on youtube where he talks about the messianic meaning of his well known song Holy Diver and his stuggle with Catholicism. Might be an interesting bit of footage for you guys :)
I recommend you guys two ozzy era sabbath songs to react to: -After Forever ( I think you are really gonna like the lyrics) -Hole in the sky ( a fantastic vocal performance from ozzy)
I am an Ozzy man. Always have been always will be. Those 70's Sabbath albums are astounding in their scope. They never get the credit they deserve for their musicality. That being said without a doubt in my mind that Heaven and Hell is the best Black Sabbath album period. Its just mythic.
The stand up and shout foundation is amazing! His wife and former manager is the one who run all that in his honor! This is a great foundation to adopt! Dio is one of my greatest influences and it saddens me that on his death day, I was born. But nevertheless will live on even after time has ended. ⛓🤘🏽⚡️🤘🏽⛓
To me, you really have to look at Black Sabbath with each singer as a different band because they were so unique and well.... different. Great video. Thanks for sharing. You picked a truly epic song.
Dio was one of the all time best metal vocalists and as much as i love ozzy i prefered him in sabbath i was he was still alive but you guys gotta check his solo stuff holy diver by dio
I looked at “ The less that you give you’re a taker.” I looked at it as him talking about greed! Near the end of the song he says They’ll tell you black is really white the moon is just the sun at night“ IMO Meaning - You have to be a free thinker and form your own opinion. “ Then says- You have to look for the answer.” Fool fool.
I'm late, if you read this. fyi, DIO brought alot of bands together (1985) for song "We're stars". It was for the "Hearing n' Aid" project for Africa. Check it out. very long solo share by different Legend artist. DIO, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Queensryke,Ted Nudget, WASP, Quite Riot, Dokken, and many more......

I like you guys. Listening to you analyzing all these songs that I grew up with is totes entertaining.
Black Sabbath - Symptom of the Universe
Iron Maiden - Powerslave
That's my fav Sabbath song!
An interesting conversation and a good solid 9.5. Agreed. Love how you chat about the lyrics. However you never really chat about the musicianship. Would be good to hear you thoughts about the rest of the band. React to all aspects. Keep up the good work though. Love from Scotland.
Megadeth - Good Mourning Black Friday
Megadeth - Looking Down The Cross
Looking Down the Cross. Is under-rated.
I know why you suggested both songs. ha ha
This is literally a perfect song!
Ozzy with Sabbath is iconic, but....I TOTALLY prefer Dio with Sabbath.
Totally agree!
Nolan Void agreed
So happy you guys did this song! It's been one of my favorites of all time for about 12 years now. I listen to it every now and then on a regular basis and I think I'll keep listening to it for the rest of my life.
Ronnie james dio invented the \m/ hand sign for metal heads !
mohamed salah Well actuaaaaallllly 😉 His grandmother used to do alot. It's a very old hex sign used waaaaay back in Roman times(possibly older still) 🤘🤘
@@chrisknight8734 He's saying the widespread use of the hand symbol by metal fans was started by Dio, not that Dio created the hand symbol itself.
that is what i meant , thank you
mohamed salah he got the hand gestures from his grandmother who would do that to ward off evil spirits. He made it popular on stage and is credited with its musical meaning and implementation
Actually, it was used as protection if someone gave you the evil eye.
Sabbath became a more mature sounding band with Dio. They seemed to become more eloquent and sophisticated. Something like that.
Dio!
Check out the songs "Rainbow in the dark", "Holy Diver" or "The Last in Line"
and "Don't talk to stranger"
David Asthar Viv Campbell's best work in my opinion
Yep, totally agree with you, he really shined with Dio.
Forget all these over played to death hits, and do All the Fools Sailed away
Egypt (the chains are on) or man on a silver mountain.
"You've got to bleed for the dancer", is in reference to an earlier line, "love can be seen as the answer, but nobody bleeds for the dancer".
Basically I always heard it as some people will preach love, but as soon as it becomes difficult on them, they'll abandon all sense of "morality". They only care about others, in-so-much-as it doesn't take away from what they have.
Thanks again for doing this one! Still amazing every time I've heard it since about 1982..... rock on!
React to Sodom. They're a German Thrash metal band who had a big influence on the early black metal and death metal scenes. Any of these songs would be fine
- Nuclear Winter
- Christ Passion
- Agent Orange
ausgebombt or m-16
stigmatized
blueskull "Magic Dragon" and "Marines"
blueskull Kreator - under the guillotine
I loved the fireside. I was there for the whole thing! It was a great discussion.
Stargazer next, please!!! It has a nice metaphor for false prophets. You guys should watch videos of Dio talking about the meaning behind his lyrics and religion, its really sober. Cya
Love the discussion afterward. The search for answers is always better when it can include others.
One of the greatest Metal songs of all time. Could barely contain myself from headbanging through it ( nah, I banged), nearly brought a tear to my eye. As someone earlier suggested 'Die Young' would be another great choice.
Children of the sea, Neon Knights next please.
Do Mr.Crowley by Ozzy Osbourne
DIO is just amazing. Been listening to him since around 1989, and every time I hear him sing, I'm amazed.
This album brought the second wave of Heavy Metal. It was important and ground breaking
Loved the analysis. I've been listening to this for years but never thought to stop and think about what it might mean. Just liked the noises :)
I would suggest The Mob Rules by Dio era Black Sabbath
I was able to watch his show about a year before he passed away. It was a great experience, I always found it incredible (at least for me) as it conveyed so many good vibes live.
Sepultura - Refuse/Resist
I adore that song. Duo was a true legend!
Sorry Dio
lol, yeah he does blow ozzy away, but he blows everyone away so it's ok...
I really like this video. Thanks for doing what you do. I'm new to Dio and I'm interested in people's takes on it. I really enjoy your perspective coming from a spiritual background. Keep up the great work! More Dio!!!
Lmao! I accidentally said bless you to Sori's sneeze out loud and everyone around me just looked at me like I'm an idiot 😂(at work). To funny!
You guys should review this whole record!! It is awesome from beginning to end! Plus, do a review on Godsmack "Keep Away" or Whitesnake "Still of the Night"
"GREATEST ROCK VOCALIST EVER!
Temple of the king, Man on the silver mountain -Rainbow, Dio era. Two of his best vocal work
Ronnie James Dio arguably the best singer and songwriter in metal history, he died of stomach cancer in 2010, the greatest loss in metal history as well, he changed Black Sabbath for the better and the albums he did with Black Sabbath ran circles around Ozzy era Sabbath imho.
With Tony Geezer and Bill it would not be a one man show, the chemistry of these 4 made something great and legendary.
LOL!!! If for "better, you mean changed them into a generic heavy metal band with no character, or guts...I guess so...but Sabbath with Ozzy was a much heavier, rawer, and gutsier band...imho.
Best songwriter- Steve Harris
Best vocalist- Bruce Dickinson
Call me a fan. But yes Im a fan because they are the best.
first let me say that im soooooo happy and relieved that you like ronny. hes so amazing. and also a suggestion for a charity in my opinion is St. Judes. i have donated to them for a few years and all the information i can find seems that they are legit and completely non profit. the aspca would probably be the only other one i would consider but cant really afford to give to 2 charities at this point in my life. also have done no research on them. but anyway i love ozzy and always will but ronny james dio is such an important and awesome person for metal and just in general. thanks you two for such a great channel . i look forward to your posts daily
Goddamn, Sori is so beautiful.
Keep you hands to yourself sir. Vin is a lucky fella!
Don't think it was his hands
Your right. Elbows make far more sense. They're pointy.
Oh, YES RONNIE💋give CHILLS🤘so WONDERFUL💕Emotions, Happy, Sensitivity brings HIM🎶LOVE Ronnie, Just ONE RONNIE in the WORLD, for all TIME💋your Reaction is Great🤘
Well now you have to do Rainbow - Stargazer. I have gone twice and plan on going again in 2019
Nice job you two! Really enjoyed your take on this Black Sabbath classic.
Black Sabbath:
- Snowblind
- Under The Sun
- Sabbath Bloody Sabbath
- A National Acrobat
- God Is Dead?
I love how they are truly listening 👏Until the end!
Black Sabbath - Headless Cross
with Tony Martin on vocals!!!
Tony is a very underrated part of sabbath
again love you two
and i always appreciate your comments and breakdown
glad you reviewed one of my old favourites
Dio is the greatest metal singer and Lyricist ever. Ask any famous metal singers or band members. Iron Maiden's Steve Harris comes in second on the lyrics.
Agreed
I think Geezer Butler is better than Harris tho
Dio was great, however I think Halford is probably the best metal singer, and Geezer wrote far better lyrics than Dio.
Jon Olivia of Savatage also, one of the best metal singer, should be in top 10 list.
Nah, Dickinson is the GOAT!!! ;)
One of the first metal albums i listened to at the age of 14, hehe. still one of my top 3 albums of all time, dio was a genius...
U want to hear another awsome one of sabbath with ronnie check out children of the sea !!!!
It is impossible to not move your head and body to this song.my favorite album of all time
Ozzy's "whinyness" in his voice is kind of his trademark.
A song from my fav album of all time, with my fav singer of all time. So happy u liked it...
Does anyone else think dio could of fitted straight into iron maiden like a glove, not that bruce could be replaced but i would love to of seen it🤘😁
Yeah, Dio and Bruce have a very similar style of singing, heavily inspired by classical opera and storytelling theatrics.
10/10 classic. I'm jealous of people who are hearing this for the first time. Especially in today's climate. Great video guys!
I recommend you guys two ozzy era sabbath songs to react to:
-After Forever ( I think you are really gonna like the lyrics)
-Hole in the sky ( a fantastic vocal performance from ozzy)
Great review! DIO is a legend. His vocals are so good. Look at DIO - Last in Line or Black Sabbath - Sign of the Southern Cross (Very underrated song)
I am an Ozzy man. Always have been always will be. Those 70's Sabbath albums are astounding in their scope. They never get the credit they deserve for their musicality. That being said without a doubt in my mind that Heaven and Hell is the best Black Sabbath album period. Its just mythic.
Ahah didnt expect that
The stand up and shout foundation is amazing! His wife and former manager is the one who run all that in his honor! This is a great foundation to adopt! Dio is one of my greatest influences and it saddens me that on his death day, I was born. But nevertheless will live on even after time has ended. ⛓🤘🏽⚡️🤘🏽⛓
Great reaction! DIO was one of the best metal vocalists ever! Now you gotta do Rainbow - Stargazer. That'll blow your mind!
Vin and Sori, check out Black Sabbath - A National Acrobat, a great track that usually isn't mentioned among Black Sabbath's greats.
Dio is a metal god may he RIP. I'm one of those people who prefer the "Dio years" of Black Sabbath, but also really likes Ozzy's solo work
Masterpiece!
Do his live version. Someday.. rip ronnie..thanks for his tribute..
Sabbath - SIGN OF THE SOUTHERN CROSS
I'm late, if you read this. fyi, DIO brought alot of bands together (1985) for song "We're stars". It was for the "Hearing n' Aid" project for Africa. Check it out. very long solo share by different Legend artist. DIO, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Queensryke,Ted Nudget, WASP, Quite Riot, Dokken, and many more......
