I just got back from Polk County today, Lost Creek. I believe the Rymer (sp) Cemetery is on the road past Lost Creek Camp Ground. Pretty amazing cemetery. Probably worth the visit if you ever get a chance. Cool video. The National Park Service is no friend to cemeteries or the surviving family. The road you crossed was intentionally closed as unexplained road closures are common in that area, along with dozens of other historical roads. When official reasons are provided as to why a road is blocked and allowed to grow over, the reasons seem plausible and even understandable, but the more questions one asks, the more he or she begins to realize that whatever the reason, it's seldom in the best interest of the public, but instead, a well designed and well executed strategy with little if any input from the public who owns the parks. The Park Service justifies their absolute control using the environment and public safety, until you start asking for specific studies or any documentation. They rule with more authority than the police and it's disgusting. The area you filmed is very special to me for a million reasons, including the cemetery you filmed. It's a shame, but I assure you it was intentional. There are many jewels all over those mountains to find. I don't mean to sound so negative, but having literally just returned from Reliance and Lost Creek, and knowing the access we used to have versus the ultra limited access now is frighting.
I've visited the cemetery near Lost Creek. Interesting history in that area. I remember using chicken bones to catch crawdads in Little Lost Creek during visits when I was a kid. I plan to get back up there for a day or two this winter.
If you had driven WEST from where you parked, about 200 yards, and turned RT on HWY 30,driven another 100 yards or less and parked on the left at a trail head parking area, walked back to the EAST side of HWY 30,walked to your left and took the old PAVED road up through the woods at the N end of the pond...hike up the road a little ways and the cemetery is on your left...much easier than coming in from where you parked....:>)
Thanks. Would you mind sending me their locations? I will be back in the area this winter and I would like to research them. Private message me or use the contact form on my website www.TheCemeteryDetective.com
love it! I always look forward to your cemetery adventures :)
