comfort vs ergonomics is such a hard balance to find. often times super "comfy" chairs will encourage slouching or bad posture while ergonomic chairs might not meet the same level of comfortability but they keep you in a position that wont destroy your back

I recieved my Secretlabs Omega Chair two days ago. After sitting on cheap chairs all my life and burning through average office chairs who go for about 80-150 euros, the Omega really holds up in terms of quality. I too imaged it would be softer, but in the end its the firmness and stability that gets you through the day sitting. In my day to day job i also sit most of the time, so my work chair isnt super comfy, but not unpleasent either - but my ass won't hurt when i sit on there for at least 8 hours 5 days a week. And thats the same feeling and support i get from the Omega. It's build like a tank and to last, which was also a consideration on my part - because i dont like to buy shit every goddamn two years. And Stu, i stumbled on your channel by accident and i have to agree with your regulars: Please narrate a documentary, you have a nice voice.

This is the big misconception that a lot of people have about comfort. Sometimes we think that comfortable is good, but that can sometimes be bad for our posture. The reason that proper support is often uncomfortable, is because often we've never sat that way before.

I've owned one for about four months now. Totally agree that initially the seat bottom feels very hard. I was expecting something like a German sports car, but it's far firmer than that.
It does take a bit of getting used to, but once you have it's extremely comfortable including for long periods of time.
It's very well packaged - unlikely to be damaged in shipping. It appears well built. So there's content to be seen that matches the price.
I would definitely purchase one again.

I've got one of these as well. I've had it for a few months and it has improved my posture a bit.
However, if I sit in it for longer than an hour, my tailbone hurts immensely when I go to stand up. I know the chair is harder/firmer than most chairs but this seems a little more extreme than that. There seems to be some sort of metal support underneath the cushion at that spot where you would sit your tailbone too so I don't know if that plays into it as well.
    Did you experience something similar?

  • @TheMrThornton
    @TheMrThornton 4 роки тому +7

The genius of this chair is that it goes against what you think comfort is. I've been plagued by back problems my entire life, compounded by a spinal injury several years ago. Any length of time spent at my desk would result in both back pain and what I call "chair fatigue".
After a month of using it I had NO back pain. None. Not a bit and chair fatigue was non existant. I can sit in that thing for 12 hours plus and I just don't get tired. And this is no fan boying. I've owned so many chairs that I've lost count and they all failed me in some way. But this chair just keeps on giving.
I love it and my wife loves it. Not only is a delight for her to sit in after a long shift caring for sick and elderly patients but it's genuinely made her a happier person. And I have to admit it made me a happier, more relaxed and less irratible person as well.
This chair may not give you what you 'think' you want, but it certainly gives you what you need. Gone are the days paying for back treatments, painkillers and any sort of cushion to make a cheaper chair feel comfortable enough to use for prolonged periods.
Also they are built like tanks. After several months of use the chair looks and feels as good as the day I got it.
I set up a computer in another room and bought myself a cheaper chair that looked similar. And that was all that was similar. Within days my back was complaining, the arm rests just weren't right and I was napping during the day just to take a rest from sitting. So today I put together a new one and I don't regret a penny I've spent on either of the Titans we now own. Yes it is expensive, but how much am I going to save on back pain treatments? How much sanity will I save now I'm relaxed and my relationship has improved. I know it's crazy to say and probably more crazy to read, but it's the truth.
Now as to cost. I think of it this way. How long do we spend in bed each day? Now think how much you would spend on your bed. Now take into account that sitting is one of the worst things to do to your back and, for me, the calculation is simple. My back deserves this chair. And if you are invested in your own back lasting the duration of your life then maybe, just maybe you deserve it too.

Interesting review... Ignoring the initial impression about the firmness of the chair (in my experience most proper office chairs are firm, with minimal padding), would you say it's comfortable? When I say comfortable, after sitting down for 3 hours, are there any noticeable pain points, is your bottom numb or is there pressure on your coccyx? I'm not expecting an arm chair...
I'm considering this as a budget alternative (yes I said budget) to a proper office chair for working from home. However I'd rather pay £380-£400 than the £8-900 that the equivalent would cost in an office chair.

Really liked the review Stu, I've actually been trying to look for a replacement chair that'll hold up for long hours of coding. Not too keen on the fact that it's not as soft as some other chairs, but my back has been racked lately so I'll have to give this a try, even if $400 is rather steep for any chair I've owned...but it beats some of the ergonomic office chairs that easily go for $1K+. Cheers!

But sitting in it for more than 30 min my tail bone starts to really hurt, especially when I try to get up. Not sure what I need to do to fix it. • @Xathian
    @Xathian 3 роки тому

Thanks for the honest review, looking into these chairs now and I thought one part of this really stood out. The firmness of the seat being a surprise to you is not shocking, but your comment about expecting a cloud is exactly the reason. A lot of people equate comfort to softness, you expected the chair to feel like a cloud. The same thing goes for mattresses. People see a memory foam mattress (Not just a memory foam top, I mean a FULL memory foam mattress, no pocket coils or anything) and they think "Oh my god it'll be like sleeping on a marshmallow". Yeah, that's how it feels, now go ask those memory foam mattress owners how they feel after sleeping in it for a year. I bet dollars to doughnuts they give you a rant on how they wish they never bought it, same happened for me and someone else I knew who also bought one. It's hell after that new purchase honeymoon period wears off. Super soft chairs or beds or whatever feel wonderful to the touch, but they wreck havoc on your posture and muscles, firmness is the solution to these issues. Problem is it can take time to adjust.

    Hi Stu,
I just received my Titan L today - with the PU leather option, rather than soft weave. I moved up from a 17 year old knackered (nearly) office chair I inherited from my father - which was soft, leather affair with hardly any lumbar support and certainly fewer adjustable parts.
For context, I am used to using a £700 Herman Miller Mirra 2 Triflex Chair at work, which are very comfy for long sits, but significantly more expensive than most gaming chairs.
I was looking around for a decent chair while I am forced to work from home during the lock down, having developed a sore back sitting in my old 17 year old chair (which my kids now use!) and this had great reviews, including by those who use the same office chair as me, and compared it favourably.
I can't say I'm disappointed ! It might be expensive in comparison to a typical Staples or Ikea chair, but is of a much better build quality and I'll bet it'll last a lot longer too!
I'm happy with the comfort level, - it's worth noting that if a chair is too soft it wont provide firm support. But that is an individual thing.
I love the adjust-ability of it, and found it a cinch to put together. Bit concerned about the dire warnings about fingers being trapped all over the box!
Already I can feel a huge difference to my back with the lumbar support, and it doesn't hurt that it can recline so well!
I'm 6'2", and the L version was fine - but they do have a XL also.

Very helpful review. Thank you, good man. I was just thinking about buying this chair and you dispelled my doubts.
I experienced the same shock when I bought this type of armchair and it turned out to be damn hard. I bought the Quersus GEOS 701 armchair for 359 pounds, has the same functions and sits just as hard.
At this price, I hoped it would sit like on cloud. From the perspective of 4 years, I think that gaming chairs are not intended for slim and tall people. If you have backache, you need to look for ergonomic chairs, something like WAU 2. Regards.

I tried both the Titan and Omega at their showroom, and eventually decided to get the Omega because it felt a lot cushier / more comfortable than the Titan (which is too firm for my comfort). According to the salesperson, it is because Titan series is meant for users who are heavier, and hence made firmer to maintain good support over a long period of usage. Makes sense.

Another reviewer put it this way which makes a whole lot of sense to me: You spend hundreds, if not thousands (USD) on your mattress that you sleep on, but you're unwilling to spend 400 on a chair that you spend most of your day sitting in? This put it in perspective for me. I sleep roughly 5-6hrs a day and I am in front of my computer >10hrs a day. Going to purchase one right after posting this comment.

Michael, it is a great chair. It is firm, but not in an uncomfortable way. I am 6'1" tall and 200lbs without any extra padding on me and the chair is a pleasure to sit in. I occasionally watch a movie in my office, and the recline (back) and tilt (seat) are a nice feature. The fully adjustable arm rests are also high enough to rest you elbows on and type comfortably with keyboard on top of a standard height desk. I haven't adjusted the lumbar again since I got it, and I think it is quite supportive. I hope this helps.

They have a sizing chart on their website that’s pretty handy. For the titan they recommend it for people between 5’9” and 6’7” and less than 290lbs. If you’re larger than that you’d want the titan xl. The omega is great for smaller folks but it’s seat is more of a bucket seat than platform so it’s no good if you like to sit cross legged.

Found this review after getting chair two days ago. Made me feel little better when you had trouble putting the back on like I did, i of course ripped off the cardboard strip that i was supposed to leave on until after the back was on, took it off when ripping the plastic off, I did not pull the release tho, but still had trouble lining it up on my own. I really like the chair I find mine comfortable and solid, but Im happy its solid as my last chair barely made it a year and it was almost 200 $cdn . (old chair arm rests are lose tho bolts are tight and base is loose, doesnt feel like it will last much longer) whereas the titan feels like it will last a long long time. Well worth it in my opinion..

I'd like to point out that when you get into a driver seat of a well made car, the seats are typically firm. Definitely not plushy like a lounge chair, or a couch. This is for the exact reason this chair is likely made firm, it provides much better support for long sitting durations. I've driven a cross Canada/US roadtrip that had me in the car for 9-10 hours a day for 1.5 weeks, and never had back pain or comfort issues, despite the seat being fairly firm.

I bought a Global Obuform chair about 15 years ago that I paid then $765.00 CDN which is about $400 pound then. It was worth that much and more for what it did to my herniated back. I bought another model of their orthopaedic Office Chair and paid a little over $600 CDN 3 years ago and it is already falling apart so I bought a SecretLab Titan XL because the mechanism is extra strong. I will receive it mid August 2020 and I am expecting as much as the Obuform was with the added adjustable lumbar support. When you have a bad back, a good orthopaedic chair is what you need to buy even if you think it is too expensive, try it on and advise. Thanks for the excellent review.

Great and accurate review. I got mine (Dark Knight Edition) 4 days ago. Assembly was really easy. They made changes to putting the back on, so the problems you experienced I didn't have. Yes, it's shockingly FIRM almost to the point of being disappointing. BUT, I sat all day for several days with no discomfort. Soooooo, maybe it's perfect? Most people I know wouldn't spend $460 (US) for a chair, and if they did, would expect a cloud experience. On a scale of 1 to 10 for satisfaction, I'm an 8. Why? I'd like it more if when I sat down it didn't feel like I was sitting on a stone park bench. Yea, I forget about it as I sit, but still.... The 2 year warranty? Well, I don't use social media so I can't post, and I don't plan getting an account just to get the 2 years.

But finally an honest review out there (and the reason I know it's honest is because I personally own this chair) and everything you mention is definitely true. The chair is stiff not super comfortable. Yes very good for the back though with the lumbar support. But after sitting in this chair for several hours I definitely have to get up and walk around for a bit also the arm rests are pretty bad and while you can adjust them they aren't padded at all. Overall it's not a bad chair but it's definitely not worth the $400 price tag.

I find it extremely comfortable. However, I'm coming from a sunken in folding lawn chair to this, and that thing demolished my back. I absolutely need that stiffer support. But its definitely not for everyone. If one is looking for a softer feeling, they should look elsewhere.

Dear lord.... is it firmer than I expected? Quite a bit... but I absolutely adore that. It didn't take more than half a second of sitting down to realize how much comfier that is for me personally. Coming from a sunken in folding lawn chair, this thing is great for my back.
With that said, that's only for me personally. If you want a softer chair you sink in to, you may want to look elsewhere or look for padded bits you can add.
