I fell asleep while listening to something else on UA-cam and woke up to #5 in this series. If I hadn’t, I might not ever have known the association between Bipolar, Borderline & Personality Disorder. I’ve been thinking that I was misdiagnosed with BPD and I’ve been “favoring” Bipolar as a diagnosis. In fact I have Bipolar, BPD and ALSO have PTSD. When the professor mentioned all three in one sentence I felt like I’d been hit by lightning. No wonder I’ve struggled all my life. Thank God for this series! Thank you, Professor.

I am so pissed off. My doctor put me on effexor about a year and a half ago and I've gained a ton of weight, over 40 pounds. Ive also had headaches and insomnia and depressive episodes. I am so glad I watched this.

To Dr Constigan's point that some forms of depression are genetically based, I've read that there is no 'depression gene', but rather a gene that can be switched on and off by environmental factors (e.g. Rainy Brain, Sunny Brain: The New Science of Optimism and Pessimism by Elaine Fox). As a result, you are either more optimistic or more pessimistic (even depression-prone) than the average person, depending on these environmental factors (epigenetics).

    This man is extremely unpredictable.
Can u imagine the mental health state of the homeless? No hope. No retribution. Serious topic.

Ridiculous... if youre 30 and been depressed 3 times you should take anit-depressants? lol - Depression is a result of bad things happening.. it would be weird to NOT be sad, thats some psycho shit. Such a nonsense way of thinking and justifying and placing blame on a disease than just a part of life. Anyone who is 'clinically' depressed is so because they've been told its ok to feel that way and that depression is a disease and thus have accepted that as THEIR WAY.

??as a junior doctor specialising in psychiatry myself, that’s not at all how depression, the mental disorder, works. low mood is normal if there is a cause, though, but depression is not just low mood.

I’ve been depressed for 6 years, I havn’t gotten any help because I always think I can handle things on my own.
It has developed in to something I cannot express to a person who havn’t been depressed, it’s not just sadness.
Maybe it all started because of a few turns in life, but now I should be fine if that would be the answer, because I have nothing to be sad about anymore, but I have a hard time to try to like my life and understand the meaning even tho I have big plans for the future.

I definetly have NOT accepted that I am depressed, I never have. I’d be dead a long time ago if I would have.
You seem really uneducated in this

@@johannalindstrom6262 to accept that you are depressed doesn't mean not learning to cope with it. It just means you're aware and thus able to recognize when your body and mind are off balance. Accepting a situation allows you to work around it and it def. Doesnt mean you "beat it".
