Robin Zander is one if the most underrated rock singers. The more songs you listen to the more you will love his voice. I’ve seen them live 40+ times since 1982. Cheap Trick still rocks.
I saw them open for Kiss in 1977 (coincidentally the day that Elvis Presley died). I had never heard of them before. The next day I went out and bought all their albums. What a great group!
First time I saw Cheap Trick was 1977 on Don Kirschner's Rock Concert. I came home from a night out and my brother was watching television and told me that I needed to check out this band. Loved them! I've seen them in concert in Madison WI, Duluth MN, at least four times in Minneapolis MN and once in NYC. A few years back, that same brother won a contest to see Cheap Trick in NYC (airfare, hotel, and concert tickets) and invited me to go along. Cheap Trick live is a great experience!
A new group to me, the guitarist I could spend ages watching him lol. A great band and I enjoyed listening to them. Take care and stay safe please everyone love hugs and peace to you all God bless you Mary-Ellen UK
Kevin Minne I do know that Robin’s voice is great live, and ok, they are great in studio as well... lol at the time when they came out it seems like it was so hard to find a band that was as good live.
@@luisalonsoecheverria I'm not sure. The awesome part towards the end with just the drums and the vocalist singing plus the screaming from the Budokan, is longer, .
Cheap Trick is from my hometown, Rockford, IL. Rick, his wife and two boys lived a block away. Love that you are reviewing them. Thx Jay for the hometown memory!!
Nicole Holford Lockney not really. One of my little sisters would play with the boys occasionally. I worked at a grocery store around the corner and would check Rick out once in a while. His parents owned a music store. Just basic stuff. This was back in the mid 70’s...things were pretty mellow.
I wore out Live at Budokan the summer of 79. I listened to it almost exclusively on a two week cross country trip that summer. I was 14 and my dad had passed in Jan that year from a brutal battle with cancer. I just collapsed in on myself and kept this album/tape on constantly that trip. Funny the things you remember.
So glad you did a reaction to this band! The drummer is one of the best in the business, even tho he looks like an accountant! Lol. Part of the novelty of this band back in their heyday. His intro to °Ain't That A Shame" is phenomenal.
I have seen Cheap Trick live 6 times over the years. The first time was in 1976 when they were one of 2 bands that opened for Queen. They are from Rockford, Illinois. The lead singer/rhythm guitarist is Robin Zander (how cute! 💋) and the lead guitar is played by Rick Nielsen. They are the only 2 original members left. The last time I saw them was in 2013 when they opened for Aerosmith at the 110th Harley Davidson anniversary. They still jam!!
Although they're loved and well known by many, I still think that they're one of the most underrated bands. CHEAP TRICK AT BUDOKAN is on of the best live albums I ever heard.
This song came from an album called Live at Budakan hence all the cheering in the background. Listen to Live at Budakan. The studio version is much stiffer.
OHMYGAWD!!! My heart is FULL!!!! ‘Live At Budokan’ .. I have two of these albums, and one of them is an import. I watched this concert on TV when I was 13!! ❤️😍😍😍😍
The sound's coming through just fine. Give "Ain't That A Shame", "Surrender", "Dream Police", "Voices", "If You Want My Love" by Cheap Trick a listen some time.
When they came into Cleveland for the rock and roll hall of fame - omg - i laughed so hard i was in tears. Our lovely lady stephanie sheaffer on fox 8 news was interviewing them. One of the guys jaw never left the floor. Automatically think of a cartoon character where you see his heart beating and his eyes fluttering.
When i saw them for the first time the guitarist i can't remember his name had 3 guitars on one in front 2 on his back. He would play the hell out of the first guitar then take it off and threw it over the big amps and took out the next guitar and so on! someones job was to catch those guitars flying over the amps great show they back up Blue Oyster Cult my first laser light show was great!!!
Check out Live at Daryl's House. Daryl Hall has great musicians over to sing his songs and theirs. Robin (singer) and Tom (bassist) are on one episode, and it's great.
I really enjoyed your video! I have been a Cheap Trick fan for years. I saw them in concert way back in 1982 and they were incredible. I smiled the entire time watching your reaction! I'm positive the guys in the band would love to see your video. They would be stoked and smile as well. I appreciate you and your positive vibes!
Oh this just made my night. You will love this band. So grateful got to see them. Was about 20 ft from stage. Have a few crappy videos lol but sweet memories. Pinched myself for a couple weeks. Sooo many good ones.
I have seen these guys many times. One concert I went to happened to be on the Bass player's(Tom Peterson) birthday.During the concert(it was in a small theater)the lead singer announced that it was Tom's b-day and invited anyone who wanted to over the the bar at the hotel they were staying at and party with them to celebrate Tom's b-day. Needless to say we went and met the band and partied our asses off.One of my best memories. So,these guy hold a special place in my memories.
Cheap Trick use to come to Cedar Rapids Iowa on the regular, I got to see them up close and personal, they would play local bars. What a great time to plan a Friday night date night with Cheap Trick!
Lmbo. Yeah my volume is maxed out. Can't seem to ever get it loud enough lol.... Dream Police, California Man, Heaven Tonight, The Flame, If You Want My Love, She's Tight, Voices, That 70s Show, Don't Be Cruel. This rabbit hole is deep but those could get started on them. Robin has a very unique beautiful voice. Thanks.
I'd love to have you react to Leon Russell, song for you or delta lady. Leon was a rare talent, a pianist, soulful singer, band leader and songwriter. Played with many many artists in the 60s and 70s.
How cool is that drummer ....lol... That hat and smoke hanging from his mouth......love it !!!! Just a song that takes you back to your youth....if you are old as dirt, like me...lol
Saw them live at Astroworld in Houston back in the late 80s. I just happened to be at the park that day, and the show was free with the admission ticket. That turned into a very pleasant surprise.
I just saw these guys about 3 years ago at the Vetterstone Amphitheater here in Manakato, Minnesota. They Rocked!!! Two of my favorites of theirs are Gonna Raise Hell and The Flame.
First time I saw Cheap Trick was in a high school gym in Denver, Colorado. The next year I saw them at Red Rocks Amphitheater opening for The Kinks. The next year I saw them headlining at Big Mac Arena, the largest arena in Denver at the time. They kicked ass - all four very talented musicians. Their live sound was very true to their recorded sound, they did not disappoint and they are still going strong. The Flame is a great song, you should definitely react to that.
I just gotta say that I absolutely enjoy your reaction videos...start to finish! There's not a single other reactor that I can say that about. You're a class act! Keep 'em coming!! :)
I saw a three bill concert in 1978 for $5. Opening band was from North Carolina and had a Regional hit called "Heartbreaker" that band was Nantucket. The second band was Cheap Trick. The headliners were the original AC/DC.
Thank You Soooo Much for doing this band.. Not a favorite song choice but so Happy to See them finally being heard.. My song choice would have been "She's Tight" or "Southern Girls" for a love song " If you want My Love You Got It".. I love Me some Cheap Trick

Really their best song ever and one of the top songs rock songs of the 70's!! Tjisnis of course lip synched, but was recorded live in Japan in the late 70's.
16 years old and suffering from unrequited love......... This was my anthem. ❤️
Cheap Trick was like a breath of fresh air in the late 70's. They went back to the basics of rock & roll and became superstars.
One of the best live bands ever. 4 years ago I took my 14 year old daughter to her first concert
CHEAP TRICK, JOAN JETT, HEART. UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!
These guys are from my hometown. I used to drink with the guitar player's son. Good peeps.
I was 11 years old when this song came out. Still Remember like it was yesterday! TIME IS THE HOURS THAT COME, AS THEY COME JUST TOO PASS.
Now you need to do Surrender! I love Cheap Trick!
Totally agree... surrender live at Budokan.... uffff!!! Mommy's alright, daddy's alright
My favorite of theirs...
@@oma_reb1587 They just seem a little weird.... lol
Absolutley👍

Cheap Trick rocks! You need to hear their cover of Elvis' classic, Don't be Cruel, and Fats Domino's Ain't That a Shame.
And a complete cover of the Beatles' Magical Mystery Tour
Ain't that a shame is so kickass live. And Don't Be Cruel. They did awesome on those.
Ronald Elkins AGREED!!
The Live version is even better. “Live at Budokan “
One band where they are better live than in the studio, what’s not to love?
@@jspurlock908 I'm not sure I would take it that far... "Dream police" is an awesome Album!
Kevin Minne I do know that Robin’s voice is great live, and ok, they are great in studio as well... lol at the time when they came out it seems like it was so hard to find a band that was as good live.
This is the Live At Budokan version. They were syncing to the recording.

My first concert with Kiss in 1975. They actually held their own. The pride of Rockford Illinois.
I saw them in 79' in Sioux Falls SD :P
I'm jealous. 🙂 I saw KISS alone in 1976.
Love this band. A great sound a bit quirky, but that's who they are. Great Song!
I think it often gets overlooked that that drummer was doing some work!
Bun E is such a great drummer and I love his cool nonchalant character in the background. Makes him seem mysterious.
@@tonyallen4265 I always thought he had the coolest name of the 70s rockers: Bun E. Carlos 😎
Robin Zander's voice is unreal.

"If you want my love" by Cheap Trick. You love catchy songs Jovaughnn and this is a great one, my favourite one from them.
That’s the song that got me into them in 1982. Been my favorite band ever since.
I love that song. It's the one where the Beatles influence is most obvious.
Yes, please! ❤
My fave song of Cheap Trick! Studio version is the same! That's why they're great! Surrender & Dream Police are great too.

Other great Cheap Trick songs: "Surrender", "Dream Police" , "She's Tight"
Listen to Radar Love by Golden Earring. It really ROCKS!
When saw Golden Earring they backed up Arrowsmith at Boston Garden my 18th birthday :)
I cannot they will block it
Surrender,
Dream Police,
Ain't that a Shame

"I want you to want me" is a classic that brings back good memories.

Yes please more. Live at Buddakon will blow your mind. They know how to rock us.
A stageful of individuals. Talented. Characters!
You should react to Cheap Trick's " The Flame. "
I second that.
Me and my honey's song.
🎶 You were the first, you'll be the last 🎶 The Flame
You gotta react to Cheap Tricks "The Flame"
The sound's coming through just fine. Give "Ain't That A Shame", "Surrender", "Dream Police", "Voices", "If You Want My Love" by Cheap Trick a listen some time.

I bought LIve at Budakon by Cheap Trick for my friend on her birthday in '79. I've seen Cheap Trick several times, so good live.
Bun E Carlos (the drummer) looks like an accountant.....love that name!
I've always though he looks like Dennis Franz (Sipowicz on NYPD Blue)
Just saw these guys last year at Mohegan Sun... still rocking out!
Great song! Great times! To me, 1979 was the start of the 80s, First car, first full-time job, and living in Las Vegas.
Cheap Trick was a bit like Peter Frampton in that their rep was mainly built off a single live album.
That's right and it's totally unfair because they have many a-ma-zing studio albums - before and after Budokan.
"Oh man check it out that guy's guitar is totally talking!!"

This live at budokan album , recorded in Japan, was actually their first hit album in the US
Great song and great band from the late 70s just good old rock and roll type of music
Played on the jukebox during the bands breaks 💃💃💃
You should hear 'The Flame' their big power ballad. It's an awesome song, just totally different than their other catalog. Thanks for the smiles! 😁
This song performed Live at Budokan is the best version of this one! Always loved this song!
Great Band. Great Song. nuff said.
