Right. I stand corrected. Get It On was the only T. Rex single that charted in the top 60 in the USA (at #10), so I can understand why Jayvee would classify them as a one-hit wonder. I'm shocked. America missed out on something special.
@ted ritola You're correct. The band Power Station did a half decent remake in the 80s with Duran Duran's John Taylor playing bass, Andy Taylor playing guitar, former Chic drummer Tony Thompson, and my man Robert Palmer doing lead vocals.
I guess J needs to repeat his criteria for selecting one hit wonders, or you could look at one of his earlier one hit wonder reactions where he explains his process.
You're going to get a lot of comments about how many huge hits T Rex had. Including a couple that you are bound to recognise. Like Children of the Revolution and 20th Century Boy. I think there are quite a few songs of theirs you'd really love. Famous for brilliant hooks and Marc Bolan's voice. I know you do base it on them having one big hit in the US but you'd be depriving yourself if you do just leave them as one hit wonders.
"Cosmic Dancer", "Planet Queen", "Rabbit Fighter", "The Slider" and "Teenage Dream" are also other classics from him. He has a lot of good stuff though.
The 1970s were so good in the UK for different music genres. Marc Bolan (T Rex) was in a class of his own. He passed away on the 16th September 1977. He was involved in a car accident. He was 29 years old. David Bowie was one of his closest friends. His loss was devastating to the music industry. Thanks for this. It brings back so many happy memories. Keep safe from the UK
As a young Northern lad I would be seen dead listening to T Rex, all that poncy pop poetry. Slade were my band of choice good hard rock. Along with Black Sabbath. I listened to T Rex about 20 years ago in my late 30s and thought you know they aren't that bad. I had to get older to appreciate Marc's musicianship.
Andrew Stancombe Love T Rex but Slade were awesome! Far Far Away is one of my favourite songs of theirs. Of course their manager, Chas Chandler (former bassist for The Animals), is credited with discovering Jimi Hendrix.
I had the pleasure of seeing T-Rex in concert when they fronted for Three Dog Night at the Pershing in Lincoln, Nebraska back in 1973 or '74. My BFF and I were standing right in front of the stage. We had a fabulous time. We were heartsick when Marc Bolan died in a car accident in 1977. It was a tremendous blow to the music world. He had quite a gift. The entire concert, by the way, was terrific. Thanks for the reaction.
T.Rex was definitely a massive glam rock band in the 70's, they even had their own TV show. I saw them live at the age of 16, in Manchester, UK, way back in 1972, I can still remember walking out of the hall walking two foot above the ground. Marc Bolan said that he wouldn't make his 30th birthday, he died two weeks before. A Glam Rock legend.
Marc Bolan one of the most intuitively gifted boogie rockers of all time!! On top of that he knew how to write great vocal melodies sung in a mid range psychedelic pout!!!!
Yep! This is the kind that you just can’t stay still when you hear it! It sure has me moving right now 💃sadly the singer Marc Bolan was killed in a car crash at the age of 29 .
Steve Bronson Hi, yes they say he lived a wild lifestyle. Supposedly he had gotten sober, don’t know if it’s true but you’re right & yes it is a terrible waste
Steve Bronson A mini previously owned by Pink Floyd. An examination of the car afterwards suggested that one of the wheel nuts hadn't been tightened properly by a mechanic, hence why the car lost control on the bend after going over the bridge.
Pen Name Hi, I guess the lesson for me here is not to judge. People that have reckless reputations & we just assume when something goes wrong that are somehow responsible but that’s not always the case. May he Rest In Peace 🌟
Pen Name That’s what I read. Apparently Gloria Jones was driving the car. Bolan didn’t know how to drive, but interestingly he owned several fancy cars, I believe. 💔🥰😥
I suggested this group a few weeks back, but not as a one hit wonder! I see from the comments that this was their only US hit, which is astounding! Please do more!
I used to be friends with one of the drummers from T.Rex called Paul Fenton. He lived near my home and I'd bump in to him often and we always had great conversation. He was an incredibly interesting man with many great tales of the band. He told me once in mid conversation, that I reminded him of Marc Bolan because I had the same spirit as him. That floored me. Aside from that, T.Rex were a great band. Marc Bolan was so charismatic.
I was into his band in their early incarnation as Tyrannosaurus Rex who were more folky. They were part of the UK underground hippie scene here they are looking to be superstars in the Glam Rock genre. Great to hear it again. Thanks Jayvee. Ride A White Swan was another great hit from them and there were a few others.
"Jeepster" went to UK#2 in 1971, so it was definitely a hit for the band. Sadly "Bang a Gong (Get It On)" was their only US chart success. They were one of the biggest acts in the early 70s in the United Kindgom, though, and "T. Rextasy" rivaled Beatlemania as a youth movement.
Oh my goodness Jay, you’re on fire 🔥! This is my childhood music. My brother was a huge fan and had full size posters of Marc Bolan in his bedroom. I still have photos of me in a T Rex scarf at around 5! He tragically died in a car crash before his 30th birthday. You have to check out his other hits- Children of the Revolution and Cosmic Dancer are my all time faves but they’re all absolute gold tbh.
Man! I really love when you skip back to the beginning of a song when you get hooked at the very start! That shows you're really putting your mind and soul to it!
One hit wonder ? they had 4 number one hits and 14 top twenty hits. They were huge in the UK.If it wasn't for Marc Bolan there wouldn't have been any glam rock.
The line “Meanwhile I’m still thinking” at the very end is taken from Chuck Berry’s ‘Little Queenie’ and is an homage to the rock & roll greats as Marc Bolan worshipped them! Love when the greats honour the earlier greats🙌🏼
Marc Bolan was one of the greatest pop-rock songwriters of the 70s. He died tragically in a car crash before the end of the decade. Check out 20th Century Boy, this is his most legendary track. He was the pioneer of platform shoes, mascara and big hair..Marc was a master.
Ha. I remember hearing the guitar riff to this song in a commercial during the late 70s or early 80s. It was a commercial for a portable turntable/record player.
Really early glam rock. We used to sing this when we walked home from school. Eventually I bought all of his albums. I enjoyed them all but it is kind of an acquired taste.

I recommend watching "I love to boogie" from the film Billy Elliot, a British film about a boy wanting to dance ballet in the 1970s. Lots of great British music in that film!
One of my all time favorite songs & band, & you are correct about the riff, it is one of the most famous & memorable.....Marc Bolan left us way too early in a tragic car accident.....think he would be happy to know people are still loving his music!!! great reaction JayveeTV 😁
My favourite song of all time by my first rock idol. I was lucky enough to see Marc live and he just oozed charisma. You should definitely check out Jeepster or Telegram Sam
T Rex had some great Hits in the early 70s! The glam rock scene was amazing! With bands like sweet.Slade. Wizard . Rubettes. You will enjoy them all!. Keep up the good work❤️👍
I have a whole new appreciation of these hits when I watch your reaction!! These are classic songs that we all know and loved but seeing your reaction really infuses new impetus!! Great reaction.
Yessss, digging into some Glam Rock, one of my favorite genres! A big chunk of Bowie’s early career was glam. Roxy Music is another band you’d dig from this genre. And at least as far as US charts go, I have another glam One Hit Wonder request: “Make Me Smile (Come Up & See Me” by Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel! Great song! They had other hits in the UK but this was their only single that charted in the US, and only just barely. It’s been covered by over 100 artists!
Sally Phillips SO DO I!! I originally mentioned it in my comment, but I decided to delete that part because it was getting too long. Duran Duran’s cover was my first version of this song! Back then I only had a little tape deck that I held up to the radio to record from, and then later I’d use a friend’s stereo to make a mixtape of just the songs I liked. Unfortunately the Q Morning Zoo Crew was still blabbing over the beginning of the song! But I wore that tape out anyway. LOVED it! Many years passed before I was able to hear the original. Great song!
T Rex was fabulous, this was back in the days of him, and the awesome David Bowie, Marc Bolan did some magical stuff, in the early 70’s. he died just 29/30. But what songs he left us.
Revisiting this song recently. We never realized how huge T. Rex was but this video was funny as hell. Who needs TV when we have T Rex? I was very young but heard this song playing sometimes on the radio. It was something big kids listened to about adult subjects. That's all we knew.
This was also covered by The Power Station that was an outside project of Duran Duran. Andy & John Taylor were in the Group as well as former Chic Drummer Tony Thompson (RIP), and Robert Palmer (RIP).
A supergroup called Power Station performed this song and in my opinion they were great! (Robert Palmer, John Taylor and Andy Taylor from Duran Duran and Tony Thompson) Worth Checking out!
He's saying Get It On, Bang A Gong (the title in reverse). The "meanwhile I'm still thinking" line at the end is a reference to the Chuck Berry song Little Queenie. T-Rex may have been a one-hit wonder here in the states, but they were HUGE in the UK. The lead singer in the late great Marc Bolan. He was killed in a car accident in 1977 and the band broke up right after.
Welcome to glam rock, which was basically co-invented by T Rex and David Bowie in his Hunky Dory/Ziggy Stardust era. There were a few other bands as well, but they were the big forces behind glam rock catching on. (T Rex was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this year!) Next: "Jeepster," "Cosmic Dancer," "Beltane Walk," "Ride a White Swan," "20th Century Boy."
Marc Bolan was married to Gloria Jones who wrote the hit single Tainted Love, but Marc had a string of hits in the early seventies he had people like Ringo, Elton (play on his records ( Ringo made the movie "Born To Boogie" about him) and Bowie who also was a good friend - performed with Marc shortly before Marc was killed in a car crash!. Marc was a brighter star than all of them, a complete Enigma. A True Star ! Cheers great reaction : )
My first concert experience was T-Rex opening for Three Dog Night, about 1973. Bolan destroyed his guitar and blew up an amp. Great show from both bands, especially the Dawgs.
It’s like Long Cool Woman In a A Black Dress By The Hollies‼️ LOOK UP 20th Century boy By T Rex and (Trextacy) Also they are a Tribute Band To T Rex That covered Oasis Song Cigarettes And Alcohol it’s sounds like Get It On Bang A Gong
They burned so bright, from the blues folk to their glam funky rock, T-Rex 🦖 by your reaction shows that light has not dimmed a bit. Should definitely checkout more of them, also Roxy Music circa 1971 to 78
Marc Bolan was an absolute musical genius who was took before his time at just 29
Yes car accident.
@KomodoDragon not only that, his GF (driver) was the girl who first recorded Tainted Love.
Just missed the 27 club. Many greats died at 27. Weird huh? I believe jim, jimi. Mama cass, janis...right?
Dude, this is not one-hit wonder territory. This was one of the most influential bands of their time.
It's like calling The Clash a one hit wonder because "Train in Vain" charted high.
One hit wounder no way. But guess in the US he only has one song maybe that's why.

My age group ( just past 60) love Marc, always keep a little Marc I your heart❣❣
20th Century Boy is one my favorite songs of all time. Definitely worth checking out.
I recommend watching "I love to boogie" from the film Billy Elliot, a British film about a boy wanting to dance ballet in the 1970s. Lots of great British music in that film!
aww marc bolan....absolute legend in the uk in the 70,s , loved him
My sister was a big TRex fan. She used to play this record over and over again.
One of my all time favorite songs & band, & you are correct about the riff, it is one of the most famous & memorable.....Marc Bolan left us way too early in a tragic car accident.....think he would be happy to know people are still loving his music!!! great reaction JayveeTV 😁
Electric Warrior is one of those perfect albums. Try Jeepster and Mambo Sun
Keep up the good work❤️👍
LOVE Power Stations cover of this too! 💛✌️✨
Yes. Their cover was the first time I had ever heard of this song. I like both versions.
This is a great 👍 song top ten songs of all time keep playing great song you will be at a 100000 no time all keeping going
I have a whole new appreciation of these hits when I watch your reaction!! These are classic songs that we all know and loved but seeing your reaction really infuses new impetus!! Great reaction.
Got to see them live in the early 70s. Incredible concert.
I love Duran Duran's version of "Make Me Smile!" ua-cam.com/video/3seWkNbyKMs/v-deo.html
Great song!
Sally Phillips PS. You share a name with one of my favorite actresses! Unless you’re actually her, of course! 💕
@@holyspacemonkey I'm not. Actually it's a fake name. lol
Sally Phillips I’m gonna pretend. 😂
Marc Bolan Played twin lead guitar with Jeff Lynne on ELO’s song Ma-Ma-Ma Belle on the 1973 album On The Third Day 🤗
Brings back memories of a weekend trip to Big Bear, stayed in a A-Frame cabin, & this playing in the background.
Their performance of this song on the Midnight Special is one of the funniest, most entertaining things I have ever seen in my life!
T Rex was fabulous, this was back in the days of him, and the awesome David Bowie, Marc Bolan did some magical stuff, in the early 70’s. he died just 29/30. But what songs he left us.
Just luv the fact your so open to all music and enjoying it all as well👍🏻💯🎸🎤🎼
Revisiting this song recently. We never realized how huge T. Rex was but this video was funny as hell. Who needs TV when we have T Rex? I was very young but heard this song playing sometimes on the radio. It was something big kids listened to about adult subjects. That's all we knew.
Ahh T-Rex and Marc Bolan - sounds of my childhood! They are wonderful - Glam Rock Royalty :D
This was also covered by The Power Station that was an outside project of Duran Duran. Andy & John Taylor were in the Group as well as former Chic Drummer Tony Thompson (RIP), and Robert Palmer (RIP).
GREAT SONG!! Can’t help but get up and dance......,...✌️🤟🏻
I saw T.Rex back in the day UK the band was massive in the UK!!!😮🤭🎶
A supergroup called Power Station performed this song and in my opinion they were great! (Robert Palmer, John Taylor and Andy Taylor from Duran Duran and Tony Thompson) Worth Checking out!
Many great childhood memories with t rex songs. He was a genius. He was married to Gloria Jones, who sung the original tainted love😀
when i first heard this song it had a kind of acid wibe video and sounded new to me.. nobb.. 1970=) such good stuff
Always a good get your groove on song. Bang a gong get it on.
This song gets your soul moving!
Omg I loooove T Rex 👏🏻👏🏻
This song is the best
20th century boy! Such a baby when he died, one of the idols of 'Glam Rock'
Welcome to glam rock, which was basically co-invented by T Rex and David Bowie in his Hunky Dory/Ziggy Stardust era. There were a few other bands as well, but they were the big forces behind glam rock catching on. (T Rex was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this year!)
Next: "Jeepster," "Cosmic Dancer," "Beltane Walk," "Ride a White Swan," "20th Century Boy."
T Rex “ cosmic dancer “ is another brilliant song 🇬🇧
Hot Love by T Rex - my fave of theirs. Great great great mellow happy tune
The singer is Marc Bolan. Bowie mentioned T-Rex in All The Young Dudes
The guitar at the beginning starts off like Georgia Satellites - Keep Your Hands to Yourself. You'll love that one!
Yes...Man I Love this song
T rex is brilliant in singing and playing this song
Marc Bolan was married to Gloria Jones who wrote the hit single Tainted Love, but Marc had a string of hits in the early seventies
he had people like Ringo, Elton (play on his records ( Ringo made the movie "Born To Boogie" about him) and Bowie who also was a good friend - performed with Marc shortly before Marc was killed in a car crash!.
Lots of good songs from T.Rex!🥰
It’s like Long Cool Woman In a A Black Dress By The Hollies‼️ LOOK UP 20th Century boy By T Rex and (Trextacy) Also they are a Tribute Band To T Rex That covered Oasis Song Cigarettes And Alcohol it’s sounds like Get It On Bang A Gong
You are not the only one!! Been Jammin to this for years!!
They burned so bright, from the blues folk to their glam funky rock, T-Rex 🦖 by your reaction shows that light has not dimmed a bit. Should definitely checkout more of them, also Roxy Music circa 1971 to 78
My early teenage years were spent listening to T.Rex & Marc Bolan. Sadly killed in a car crash 16th September in 1977, but never forgotten.
Huge T Rex fan - he was bigger than the Beatles in the UK - Telegram Sam, Cadillac, Ride a White Swan, Jeepster etc
T. Rex was a big group in England at one point, Mott The Hoople was the other band there that was making a splash at the same time.
Great selections today.
