I STILL use a Nokia! My phone provider has sent me 2 Androids over the last couple of years, both went back in the box and my trusty Nokia is still going strong, just like this song.
Thank you for your reaction! Morten Harket, the lead singer of A-Ha holds two records among male singers, a vocal range up to five octaves and singing one single note for 20,2 seconds (in the song called "Summer Moved On"). The band still exists and has released a lot of albums and great songs since the time Take On Me became a huge hit. It would be cool if you reacted to other A-Ha songs..
On one hand it‘s so 80‘s, the synthetic drums and keyboard, on the other hand, this song is timeless. I didn‘t realize back then how really outstanding his voice is.
Jayvee didn’t react to the video like we oldsters did! The video technology is nothing new to him!! But back in the day it was really new and cutting edge!!

Just pronounce it A-Ha, however it comes out it's right, because everybody pronounced it their own way back then. I was in college when this came out, and I remember how cool and innovative this video was back in the day. The song was first released in their home country of Norway in 1984, then was re-released with this new video in the USA about a year later and became a massive world-wide hit. A couple of years later, these guys ended up recording the next James Bond movie theme at the time, The Living Daylights, another good song. I have introduced this video to dozens of people over the past 25 years. You, my American cousin, are the first not to get totally blown away by the construction of the video graphics, absolutely defining 25 years ago.
The concept of the video was fascinating in that she was drawn into a comic strip by this attractive guy and lived in it for a while, and she comes back to reality. Then she retrieves to wadded up comic strip from the waist basket, takes it home and the comic character pushes into her house to join her. The VIDEO is what made this a hit record.
So nice to see your reaction to a song I heard back at the release in 1985, been a loyal a-ha fan since! Glad to you like it! "Take on me" by Norwegian a-ha (pronounced just as your regular "a-ha!" in surprise or revelation) was released in 1985 on the third attempt to release it. It was released in a genius planning campaign by Warner Bros, first they wallpapered the entire inner city of New York and also London with giant posters of the boys, published the video and waited for the audience to discover the now classic and groundbreaking video by Steve Barron which it did quite quickly and then, after a month of publishing the video, released the single - it almost went directly to Billboard no 1. It reached 1 billion views here on YT recently! I have seen them live several times, lead singer Morten Harket still has his voice intact, well mostly anyway!
The song was released in 1985, along with the video, which won awards. You also need to watch the video to ‘The Sun aAlways Shines On TV’. It follows this video.
Cracking bit of pop history. Morten Harkett, lead singer of A-ha was a big fan of the Everly Brothers as I am. I actually saw him coming out of their gig at the Royal Albert Hall in London in the late 80s. Didn’t have the presence of mind to rush for his autograph. Still kick myself for that.
I grew up in the 80s, listening to all their greatest hits. They matured into a more rock band, showing their influences by bands like The Doors or Uriah Heep. Between A-ha and Depeche Mode, you gotta love em 80s
It's an 80's hit! I saw them when I was young! Saw a friend at the concert with his younger daughter and he was surprised to see me at "The A-Ha's" concert
The beat sounds familiar because The Weeknd used it in his single - “Blinding Lights.” Play the two songs back-to-back, and pay close attention to the beat, pattern, and rhythm, not to mention the style.
I've heard this song about a million times and never realised how sweet it was until I saw them perform it in a slowed down and stripped back way a few years back. Find that version and check it out Jayvee!
Great norwegian group. Michael Jackson was a fan of this video. Lots of hits in the mid 80's and early 90's and even some later than that; The sun always shines on TV, Manhattan skyline, Stay on these roads, Crying in the rain, The living daylights (James Bond-theme), Lifelines, Forever not yours.
This song and the video came out in 1985. Yes, 1985! The video “wowed” us back then and has stood the test of time. It is still an amazing video even by today’s standards! The tune is catchy and excerpts from the video have been used by MTV and VH1 in their commercials. I am so glad you got the chance to experience it. I wish I could hear it / see it again for the first time....
I appreciate that you got into the music, but I'm curious about whether you actually saw the video? Eyes closed, looking around the room as you got into the beat... You didn't mention the animation or the story... I'd hate for you to miss it!
He is there for the song and music on first place, but od course he could mention the great video of course.. ;-) But this one give the video more time :D ua-cam.com/video/AWnWG-AXsU0/v-deo.html
you really think all these 1st time reactions are real ? Strange how in the recommendation panel there are at least half a dozen other 1st time reactions to the same videos every time .
i totally agree, he got into the music, but seemed to gloss over the innovative, non-verbal story being told on the screen. I guess some people really are here for only the music
If it’s the first time that he’s hearing this is probably the first time that he seen the video. You and I know it was groundbreaking at the time, but for him it’s a dime a dozen. We were there when the ship first set off.
@@slchance8839 Don’t forget, that clip was innovative in the 80’s but younger people are more more accustomed to creative music videos. I don’t think the video is a standout to first time viewers today. That being said, it was the video that made me fall in love with the song. My young untried heat just exploded when I saw Morton in distress. My first teenage crush.
There was actually a sequel to this song with another video that shows what happened to them after this video ended. "The Sun Always Shines on TV" Its great too.
One of the few reactors to be more excited about the "New Wave" music than the video, lol. These guys are Norwegian. I guess they were already really popular there before they made this, which became a huge hit in the US thanks to the super interesting video.
Was this new wave? I associate that with groups like The Police and Blondie or even Sparks (despite being an older band). I believe people called this lots of names, at least here in Sweden. Fjortispop ("fourteens-pop"), tjejpop ("girls-pop"), or just pop, or synth-pop.
@@herrbonk3635 This is synth-pop. They kept using synths for most (though not all) of their career, certainly their guitarist/ principal songwriter plays a MEAN guitar,, but their music quickly matured to the point where "pop" just generally didn't cover all the types of music they produced. I think that's where the New Wave label came from, but they've done some songs I think are straight up rock, too. They're kind of hard to peg.
Agree about that song. Other than this being a great song and music video, a-ha made many more albums, but quit releasing singles in the U.S. "Dark Is The Night For All" is another one of my favorites.
A highly admired ground breaking video, and he hardly watched it. At all the key points he had his eyes closed, LOL! But he's right about how good the song is!
I’m so excited you did this song...I was hoping you would! It’s one of my favorites...I’m always blown away by the vocal range of the lead singer. Loved your reaction! Thanks!
I'm a fan of a-ha. Scoundrel Days, Manhattan Skyline, Stay on these Roads, There's never a forever thing, Dark is the Night for All, I Call Your Name, Summer Moved On, Lifelines, Holy Ground, A Fine Blue Line... are really good songs for reaction.
Your whole reaction to this song is how I feel every time I hear it. It never gets old. Now you can go check out the unplugged version... Completely different mood, but still amazing.

I love the fact that your analysis was focused on the song. The video is one of the most iconic of MTV's heyday, but that's a separate thing from the song itself. I've seen other commentaries that focused on the video and didn't really listen to the song.
The best🙂! One of my fav songs. Everyday I have to listen it! 😎❤ After "Take on me" comes "The sun always shines on tv". 🙂And another great great songs: You are the one, Cry wolf, Crying in the rain, Hunting high and low, The living daylights,.. hihi😃

The song was released in 1985, along with the video, which won awards. You also need to watch the video to ‘The Sun aAlways Shines On TV’. It follows this video.
Revolutionary back in the 80's. Video is amazing to this day.
The song is a total 80's classic. The video is something else. Morten Harket on vocals...
Love to see new reactions to old songs.
I loved his reaction,it is a wonderful song. His appreciation of how it was written.Great stuff
The video of this song reached ONE BILLION VIEWS on UA-cam on February 17th 2020.
Man you gotta go back and watch the vid with the music
Randy Lavergne yes! Best video ever!
EXACTLY !
I grew up in the 80s, listening to all their greatest hits.
They matured into a more rock band, showing their influences by bands like The Doors or Uriah Heep.
Between A-ha and Depeche Mode, you gotta love em 80s
Best song and best video of 1986 😎👍🎶
It's an 80's hit! I saw them when I was young! Saw a friend at the concert with his younger daughter and he was surprised to see me at "The A-Ha's" concert
the sun always shines on tv ,and living a boys adventure tale are also great songs by these guys
The Best Songs came in the 80s and early 90s/Mid90s for real....Ultravox -Dancing with tears in my Eyes....a epic Track too.
The beat sounds familiar because The Weeknd used it in his single - “Blinding Lights.” Play the two songs back-to-back, and pay close attention to the beat, pattern, and rhythm, not to mention the style.
I'll never get fed up listening to this one, one of the best songs of the 80s.
Bit of a pop classic. One of the best music videos ever as well - 1985 but still looks fresh today
I've heard this song about a million times and never realised how sweet it was until I saw them perform it in a slowed down and stripped back way a few years back. Find that version and check it out Jayvee!
The Sun Always Shines On TV
The Living Daylights
Other well know and great tracks from A-Ha.
2/3 tracks 🎵., That they *sung ., 1989 'Rose Theatre'🇬🇧 eVent.
Absolute 'Legendary'.!! ℹ️😎
The video is iconic :) I suggest Tears for Fears "Shout" and "Everybody Wants to Rule the World".
finally someone said it👏
He already listened to them
This song and the video came out in 1985.
They weren't new wave, they were pop music. They had no albums in Norway prior to the release of this one.
Another perfect song. I miss the 80s (and 90s) so much, so much incredible music back then.
"The Sun Always Shines on TV" next please.
Over 1 Billion Views .. Greatest Music Video of All Time { Updated to 4k Last Year}
The girl in the video was his girlfriend. Another great song by AHA is "The Sun Always shines on TV."
Agree about that song. Other than this being a great song and music video, a-ha made many more albums, but quit releasing singles in the U.S. "Dark Is The Night For All" is another one of my favorites.
She's in the "Your Love" video by The Outfield too.
@@OneEyedJack1970 I neve knew that. I see it now. Thank you!
It's another song. It's not great.
Great song,unique Voice: a-ha forever 🎼❤️🇮🇹
A highly admired ground breaking video, and he hardly watched it. At all the key points he had his eyes closed, LOL!
But he's right about how good the song is!
arguably the best music video ever especially at the time.
No 80s music is complete without Duran Duran. Hungry Like the Wolf was one of their biggest hits.
Oh I loved them
Every Duran Duran song would suit me fine 👌🏻 best band ever and yes I still live in the 80s lol
Wild Boys was my favorite! They were my first real concert at the Worcester Centrum in 1987 for my 12th birthday. LOL
I’m so excited you did this song...I was hoping you would! It’s one of my favorites...I’m always blown away by the vocal range of the lead singer. Loved your reaction! Thanks!
Absolute 80’s classic!🥰
I'm a fan of a-ha.
Scoundrel Days, Manhattan Skyline, Stay on these Roads, There's never a forever thing, Dark is the Night for All, I Call Your Name, Summer Moved On, Lifelines, Holy Ground, A Fine Blue Line... are really good songs for reaction.
Your whole reaction to this song is how I feel every time I hear it. It never gets old. Now you can go check out the unplugged version... Completely different mood, but still amazing.
The song beat is double time . Back in the 80’s we danced at half speed. Loved it!
Nice Jay try the sun always shines on TV. My teen years in london this was always playing somewhere. Let yourself Jay foot tapping yet mine is . Great reaction ☺☺💖💕💖
I absolutely love that song!
You are a breathe of fresh air. I've followed you since lockdown and your energy rubs off. I love how you experienced this song!! Its a classic. Thank you for your smiles and enthusiasm. You are a delight.
Hi, listen to their track Hunting High And Low.
And the album too.
It was a big hit in '85 Jayvee, great reaction! Another big hit of theirs was 'The Sun Always Shines On TV' - it was massive in the clubs.
This song is often used, as the epitome of 80's music.
It's hard not to agree.
I love the fact that your analysis was focused on the song. The video is one of the most iconic of MTV's heyday, but that's a separate thing from the song itself. I've seen other commentaries that focused on the video and didn't really listen to the song.
Morten Harket has one of the most beautiful and powerful voices ever.
totally agree!!
I think he deserve more credit !!
The best🙂! One of my fav songs. Everyday I have to listen it! 😎❤ After "Take on me" comes "The sun always shines on tv". 🙂And another great great songs: You are the one, Cry wolf, Crying in the rain, Hunting high and low, The living daylights,.. hihi😃
Dude!!! You appear to be missing the video. This is a song/video that demands you watch!
Now you know how I felt when I was 8 and this song broke. And how me and countless others felt when hundreds of great songs came out in the awesome 80’s. Seriously miss those years, it was a lot of fun and we didn’t have cell phones and the internet stealing our childhoods.
