The most underrated Blues song ever. It brings out the essence and ethos of what Blues really is. I can listen to this repeatedly and never get tired of it!
OMG don't come close! I graduated high school in 1973 in Layton Utah, bought this 8 track, Duane Allman Anthology and this tune kocked my azz...We traveled many miles together but these guys never left me...Thanks for such a timeless memory...
Great write-up; you've done a superb job of honouring this song and Scaggs and Robinson and all of the current band and the players who made Boz's original version so amazing. Really appreciated. ...and great to see this version from my adopted home town, home to the world's best jazz festival, The Montréal Jazz Festival.
Thank U Glendolyn, for the Email this morning . I love this man and cannot count how many times I have seen him in concert..........wow there is a God !!!!!!!!
A couple nits. Boz Scaggs and his manager specifically asked for Duane Allman to work on this session. It was a problem as Duane was touring with the Allman Brothers. Duane was very well known at the time. The original is such a great recording because Duane is reunited with the Swampers, the Muscle Shoals House band. Duane agreed to come back for a day or two and is recorded on several of the best tracks on this album (everything is better with Duane on it). There was not enough room in the recording room for Duane and all of the others so the story is Duane sat on top of a toiler in a half toilet down the hall with his guitar and headphones on. Boz and the production team told Duane to take the lead and Duane created and this masterpiece. After Bozz stopped singing and Duane was laying it down the producer when running down the hall to give Duane the sing to keep going, and so glad he did. Without Duane, this would have been a 3.20-minute song. In 1978 there was a remaster of the original and it is well worth seeking out as it brings Duane more forward and some of the other wonderful parts including the organ work.
I hope box has some island retreat thst he can play this song at every night. ! I didn’t realize that he was a tasty guitarist. Such a special lonely tune expressing the loneliness of a mans soul.
Sometimes it’s okay to just sit, listen and enjoy the music ! When I go to a live act, there’s always this one person or couple that go completely crazy. It annoys the hell outta me. Very distracting.
I've seen Boz a number of times, but the first time, in 1970, in the UCSD gym, was the best. Tickets were--believe it or not--50 cents. I was right next to the front of the stage, and on LSD, so it was--pardon the expression--very "trippy."
Great audience there ...All quiet ,just appreciating whats on offer...So much more entertaining than rows of stupid school girls screaming ,standing with their arms in the air...Makeing sure no one sees or hears a thing..
That's exactly why I like this version better than the Duane Allman version. On the DA version the brass got way too loud and way too in the way. Heavy brass and the blues don't exactly go together.
That's Drew Zingg on lead guitar. Drew tours a lot with Boz Scaggs, and has been in Steely Dan, and played with many notable musicians. Look for some UA-cam vids with him!

Brilliant what a performance one of the greatest ever, the man's a genius
Pretty much one of the best live blues performances of all time. Makes me cry every time.
Especially if you realize that the one you left behind was the one.
I was 7 rows from the stage. This song blew me away. Incredible.

So glad that someone captured this on film. Haha
Saw Boz Aug 1, 2015 in R.I., Still does a good job on this one, A life long ABB fan, the Duane connection is why I got the tix.
Zingg went the strings!!! With Boz everything is perfect..he's a brilliant guitarist too!
just gets better and better like good wine :)
How disgusting that advertisers feel they can interrupt a song like this! Shame on them!

Thank you for that info. Knew about Duane playing on original (great), but did not know this story.

What a blast, what an amazing song and performance!
Why and how do people remain seated and motionless when listening to this incredible music; have they no soul ?
It's called respect.

First of his hit in the 70's
This song was written and recorded by Fenton Robinson around 1967- 68. Fenton had to take this guy to court and won
Sunday evening red wine delight !

trés bon j'adore
Great vocals...He's only 70 something years old.

❤
Boz really shares the stage.
This guy was flippin amazing.
Relaxant!!! :-)
BOZ!!!!!!!!!
WOW
That is a fine guitar Boz is playing. Wonder what model?
david gilmore
Looks smaller than a ES-355 that was his axe in the past. Maybe a 359? Upscale model of Gibson’s ES-339…jus’ guessing here.
Who is playing at the 12 minute mark? He’s amazing!
Drew zingg
@@rcb1798 thank you.
I guess Boz wrote this back when pay phones were 10 cents.
Play it Zing 🎸
Sorry, I fell aseep, are they still playing.
couple of nice old Gibson guitars
Great audience there ...All quiet ,just appreciating whats on offer...So much more entertaining than rows of stupid school girls screaming ,standing with their arms in the air...Makeing sure no one sees or hears a thing..
Bad concert experiences I gather.😉
Gotta love an ES335 in the right hands (no disrespect intended).
so thats what my exact es335 can really sound like @5:00 mark.

miss the brass section.

Sigh..........:)
Isn't that Dave Gilmore to the right @ 10:00 on.

Damn autocorrect.
Love Boz but no where close to the original!
Duane 🙏
