The greatest footballer I've ever seen. The man had superior strength and freakish skill. We will never see any one like him again. Also the best highlights reel.
I am a Collingwood man GO PIES but undeniably Gary Ablett is one of the greats of The greatest football league world wide, nothing comes close to our game AFL
I saw that goal off the ground live against the eagles at subi... i was behind the goals... we hated him, he was a goal freak 😂 never missed ... no curse would work 😂
He basically maxed every attribute of the ideal player. Athleticism, skill, footy nous, strength, speed, courage... to that end, probably only Matthews could hold a candle, though he wasn't nearly as athletic
I’m biased being a Geelong supporter but easily the most freakishly talented footballer I’ve ever seen. He just read the flight of the ball so much better than anyone I have ever seen play (watching footy for over 40 years) We’re lucky a lot of his highlights are on film, but I still vividly recall the buzz in the crowd whenever he went near the ball, and that is sadly something that couldn’t be captured…
Absolutely. He was a specimen 💯. I’m almost 50 years old and follow many sports that are played throughout the world. I will always maintain the Gary Ablett sr is the most gifted athlete I’ve ever seen. A once in a century phenomenon.
when they say Ablett has taken a miraculous mark or kicked a miraculous goal they could have used the word standard or ordinary because for him it was no miracle
Absolutely. Jon he attempted a mark in the center of the ground in the 89 prelim v essendon. A one handed screamer. Would have been mark of the century.
@stuartcallaghan3285 I went to that game at VFL Park. Probably his best game ever. Played on a half forward flank and was scintillating. Done some team things which is something often overlooked in his game. Many fans view him as a selfish player which is not the case. That mark would have been an absolute ripper.
To be fair he was really only guilty of that in 89 (and only did it because the Hawks were so unbeatable in their forward line). They had some great defenders in the 90s in Hinkkey, Mansfield, McGrath, Handley, Rogers and O'Reilly but struck West Coast in their peak years. 91 was a big chance (should have won the 91 prelim as WC hardly ever played at Waverley and 92 were 5 goals up in the GF). 94, to quote Blight, WC were at their zenith

I'd say greatest goalkicker....Peter Daiicos Collingwood was another goal freak
Go watch Jnr’s highlights. He produced another player as good as him
No one will ever come close to this man for freak talent. No one.
Some of those marks towards the end are just insane, never saw Cary or Matthews do that.

Nothing comes close to being wrecked like AFL has over the last 30 years, barely watchable
Best Player Ever 100%
7:16 Left foot roost. Hit the advertising sign on the full. 60 metre drop punt no probs.
And another from about 48-49 meters with the left going through post high v Brisbane.
@@stuartcallaghan3285Was that at Carrara in 1992?
@@jonburrows9816 absolutely it was
Thanks for posting the two videos! Such joy to watch the great man’s highlights!
Absolute master..
Bless his heart ❤️ out
The man could kick the ball 75 meters 😮
both feet

Ablett Snr is the most complete footballer I have ever seen. Incredible natural talent.

@@jonburrows9816 well said Jon. Yes I agree that that game was his best ever…and totally agree he wasn’t as selfish as made out.

Whos the commentator in the saints game @11.40?
Ted Whitten.
If only Malcolm Blight had a keen eye for defense, and not all out attack, that Geelong team may have a won a premiership or two.

I’m not saying it did and I’m not saying it didn’t, but did the heroin help his game? Imagine him now days with drug testing
