If you think about it, we encountered these tea mon out of order. Tea reached Britain *from* Japan, and it seems the tendency of ghosts to be drawn to the tea followed suit. Hence why they're two different lineages, not subspecies.
Fun fact: almost all of Asia calls tea ''chai'' and it bled into Europe as well, in Romania (unlike other latin countries) we call it ''ceai'' and we got the terminology from the ottomans
I just watched this video, but I think it's important to mention that the 3 dots ( 6:48 ) are a map marking used in japan to represent tea plantations. Just like we will use a cross for a hospital or some trees for a park here in the west

From the trailer that introduced this Pokémon with the Rakugo teller inform us that it is also based on Tsukumogami which are objects that become youkai
5:47 I honestly like this sentiment In my opinion this should be a more common sentiment ; accepting that things break and crack and and not being ashamed of repaired old belongings that still work fine.
I just did a Kintsugi workshop with an expert from Japan on the 3rd, and the topic of this Pokemon came up. I learned an interesting fact; that Matcha would not make a good material for Maki-e. The colour of Matcha is not bright enough, so it would just be overshadowed by the much darker black or red Urushi that they use as glue to put the item back together. Second fun fact, Urushi has the same chemical in it that poison ivy has that causes reactions in most people!
I know a lot of people hate object Pokemon, but I love them and will never complain about more of them. I figured Poltchageist had a lot more to it than i thought but to think it had this much going on...makes me a lot more excited for when it finally comes out.

The difference isn't "They're different tea! They should be Regional Variants!!!" The difference is that Sinistea should be Ghost/Water or Ghost/Poison 😂
We'll casually powder the room, this is fine. Another reason not to use fingers is that the oils and contaminates on the skin can ruin what's not drawn from the container, similarly with things like catnip where its better to pour a bit onto the container lid or into a hand rather than reach inside.
I thought it drained the life of people because it’s a ghost type and they usually subsist off of the life force of their victims. Also I didn’t know there was a differentiation between real macha and the more commercials available kind.

Hi, I'm once again explaining Pokémon names in German. Today, I'm talking about Poltchageist. In German, it is names "Mortcha", which combines "mors", the latin word for "dead", with matcha and "Mortipot", the German Name für Polteageist. And that's it. Because I only talk about one Pokémon, this comment is pretty short, but I hope you enjoyed reading it.
2:34 wine and champagne do have a difference depending on where it's made The grapes themselves, the soil from which the plant takes its nutrients etc etc That's why a Bourgogne is different from a Bordeaux which is different from other wines and you can guess the same thing applies to Champagne Though sometimes the same ingredients planted in slightly out of champagne aren't called champagne which is kinda stupid
Fun fact about “tea” vs “chai”, most Asian languages call it some variation of the Chinese “cha”, but in the west we call it “tea”. That’s because when Dutch explorers made first contact with the Min Nan people of coastal Fujian, their specific dialect pronounced it like “te”, so European traders began calling it “tea” because that’s what they heard it was called on first contact, despite the widespread Asian consensus being cha/chai/chay.
1:52 The Hebrew word "חי" is pronounced like "high" but with a roll in the first sound that doesn't exist in English, which is why it is sometimes transliterated as "chai", but it isn't pronounced like the word for tea. Living thing is "חיה" (haya), while "חי" just means "life". I think it's a stretch here, because ghosts are very importantly not alive and "living thing" here means more like animal as opposed to an object that is alive.
I do wonder if it does have an evolution if it'll be more focused on the kintsugi angle and reform its still broken self into a more positive Pokémon. Like it has already been repaired a bit but still has holes in it.
Welp, technically yeah, the hebrew word for alive (חי) IS spelled in english as chai but the ch is actually a very pronounced version of h that is way more common in hebrew then in english (not sure if the letter ח's sound has a one to one equivellant in english)
One fan theory I saw the other day was that the swirly bit and green cloudiness of the matcha are reminiscent of Spiritomb, so what if Poltchageist evolved into a Matcha Pokémon inspired by Spiritomb. Imagine, the caddy shattering and the mournful tea spirit bursting forth! It even works with the lore too, as the 108 spirits could now become the souls/energy of the people drained, or even more subtly referenced as 108 tea ceremonies? Alternatively, Cofagrigus could be an option, being the tea set cabinet, instead of just the caddy. Similar to how Polteageist’s name becomes Poltchageist, Spiritomb could become Spiritomatcha or Spiritchai. Or, if you like the Cofagrigus idea, Chaigrigis or Matchagrigus What do you think?
In my honest opinion, the object based ghost Pokemon are some of my favourites because they combine the cute style of pokemon with the spooky vibe of a ghost story.
At first i was a bit weirded out that poltchageist wasn’t just a regional form but instead a convergent evolution of sinistea, but now that i think about it regional forms are pokemon that adapted to new environments and changed their appearance to match, but since poltchageist was conceived independently from sinistea and is simply another tea based pokemon then it would be more appropriate for it to be a convergent evolution, after all porcupines and hedgehogs are practically identical but are otherwise unrelated
There are other examples of things similar to chai tea being tea tea. Like how sahara desert is desert desert, naan bread is bread bread, and ghee milk is milk milk.
I guess this is a SPOILER at the moment so I'll hide it. Poltchageist does evolve. It turns into Sinistcha. It's swapped. The evolution looks like Sinistea while the first one looks more like Polteageist. It's bigger than Poltchageist and they also have that forgery/authentic dynamic. It was something/masterpiece on Twitter.
I actually had some kintsugi work done, and you can't always use the object the same way anymore actually. Most lacquer is Not food safe (by modern standards), and has problems with higher temperatures.
My personality will revolve around this pokemon for the next year or 2. I love Ghost types and this pokemon is just so cute. Also can’t wait to see if it’ll have a hidden ability or an extra ability as those who don’t play doubles might see the ability useless
I've never tried match tea before, to be honest. I've been wanting to, but I'm not sure if I can make it correctly. ^^; Also what a mess. I can't even imagine how long it took it get all that powder out.
I've had Matcha flavored Pocky before...got kinda addicted to it lol. Personally when it comes to tea (that isn't southern sweet tea) I'm partial to Oolong tea...I've tried the canned Matcha tea and it's...not quite right in my opinion but that could be due to my love of sweet tea and so unsweetened tea just tasted wrong to me when I was younger. I"m older now so I'll have to give it another go with Matcha.
Make sure it's good quality, the cheap stuff can be rather bitter. I, personally, like it with a bit of bite, but a good one should be mellow and comforting.
A very interesting video as always, but a small bit about the Hebrew word for 'living' that you mentioned (and I'm sorry if it's been mentioned before), while it can be transliterated to English as 'chai' (or alternatively just 'hai'), it's not pronounced the normal way you'd pronounce 'ch'. in Hebrew, it's written with the letter 'ח' (chet, or het, same like before), which makes a very throaty sound that simply does not exist in English, hence the two ways of transliteration. I guess the best way to describe the sound would be 'the sound someone makes when they loudly gather spit from the back of their throat'. I can understand where the confusion stems from, but the Hebrew bit might be incorrect. Not blaming you, just trying to inform. Love you work as always, keep up the good work!
Can people in the comments please shut up about the leaks? Most people dont wanna know about them and this video was made before the leaks came out anyways, plus, Lockstin doesnt ussually cover leaks
An important thing you only briefly touched on is why it's convergent. Poltergeist and Sinistea are a ghost that already existed possessing a cup of black tea and then pouring it into a tea pot. Poltchageist is the matcha caddy itself gaining life, no spirit required just the regrets of the old man. It's still a bit spiritual in nature as a yokai based Pokémon which is why unlike Wiglett and Toedscool it shares a type with the Pokémon it's based on, but it's not actually a ghost. That's why it's convergent.

If you think about it, we encountered these tea mon out of order. Tea reached Britain *from* Japan, and it seems the tendency of ghosts to be drawn to the tea followed suit. Hence why they're two different lineages, not subspecies.
I fell in love with this pokemon from the moment I saw it. I can't wait to use it and knowing all the lore just adds to it.
1:34 would you like some coffee coffee with room for cream cream?
Edit: Also, Poltchageist does have a pre-evolution/evolution (not sure for now)
Fun fact: almost all of Asia calls tea ''chai'' and it bled into Europe as well, in Romania (unlike other latin countries) we call it ''ceai'' and we got the terminology from the ottomans
Convergent evolution is brilliant!! Love the new take on regional forms
I just watched this video, but I think it's important to mention that the 3 dots ( 6:48 ) are a map marking used in japan to represent tea plantations. Just like we will use a cross for a hospital or some trees for a park here in the west
The reference to Pavitr's "it's like you're saying tea tea" made me happy for no apparent reason ✨
Just a small correction but the pronunciation and spelling for tea in China is just “cha”, “chai” and “o cha” are both derived from the Chinese word
in Portugal we call it "Chá"
@@hugosilva9502 Every word in the world is derivated from the chinese. « Tea », « Thé », « Tè » « Shai », etc. It’s not only in Portuguese.
I will say that as someone who has seen the leaks, Poltchageist does evolve, and does incorporate the whisk into the design
Well don't spoil it for other people
I reckon that Poltchageist is the evolved form, just like how we first saw Polteageist in trailers, while they're saving the Convergent pre-evo for the DLC launch like they did with Sinistea for the Gen 8 release.
lots of really good details in this, the idea of an object that has been used for 100 years, gaining spirit, is very interesting to think about.
Maybe the evolution will have the tea ladle (and maybe it could learn wood hammer like how a mother uses a spoon)
1:42 Spider-Man already made that joke lockstin lol
I'm guessing this was made before Sinistcha was known, I'd love to hear Lockstin's take on why the evolutions are flipped 🤔
1:34 he said the thung 🤯
5:33 bro if I lived in Japan I would be made of gold at this point
From the trailer that introduced this Pokémon with the Rakugo teller inform us that it is also based on Tsukumogami which are objects that become youkai
5:47 I honestly like this sentiment
In my opinion this should be a more common sentiment ;
accepting that things break and crack and and not being ashamed of repaired old belongings that still work fine.
Leaked information below
Poltchageist does have an evolution...named Sinistcha. They swapped the names around
I know it's not part of the video but an add for Pokémon sleep played directly after he "passed out"
Definitely a fan of Poltchageist, love the whole matcha thing going with him. This is a really good analysis of the Pokémon!
I very much perfer this form then regular sinistea. Also learning about design origins is my favorite things about Pokémon designs.
1:45 Though it may be written with ch, the correct pronunciation in hebrew sounds closer to hai.
Love your videos, keep up the good work!
Making a mess is all fun and games till he realizes he’s the one that has to clean it up once the camera turns off 😂
We need more tea... Red, yellow, white, oolong... All the tea around the world as pokemon
Lockstin
there is a pre evolution leaked for Poltchageist called Sinistcha
12:06 "I'm washing me and my clothes" In all seriousness I love object mon! They're just so interesting and I never really understood the flak that people gave them, Klefki is one of my favorites!
I feel like people who make fun of modern pokemon design should take a look at your videos, they are very informative!
A little bit of matcha powder dropped in my face while I was watching this
OH SHI-
@@HPMCCPooTisoh no.
Ngl I really love how cute Sinischa looks, so cute with the whisk wig. Love both Polchageist and Sinischa. Just wish they had a different type like Fairy/Grass
Haven't seen a Poketuber shower scene since Mike of MandJTV in his Dr. Squatch ad bits.
Object and Good based Pokémon are some of my ABSOLUTE favorites! We 100% need more!
What people aren't understanding is that Sinistea//Polteageist are haunted TEA living in a broken tea set.
Poltchageist//Sinistcha are haunted tea pots/matcha POTTERY than fix broken stuff.
The difference isn't "They're different tea! They should be Regional Variants!!!"
The difference is that Sinistea should be Ghost/Water or Ghost/Poison 😂
We'll casually powder the room, this is fine. Another reason not to use fingers is that the oils and contaminates on the skin can ruin what's not drawn from the container, similarly with things like catnip where its better to pour a bit onto the container lid or into a hand rather than reach inside.
I thought it drained the life of people because it’s a ghost type and they usually subsist off of the life force of their victims. Also I didn’t know there was a differentiation between real macha and the more commercials available kind.
Teal mask DLC Spoiler origin facts:
For the New poison trio they are based on the Story momotaro about the boy who's born from a peach and their colors are swapped with the one on the otherside of the colorwheel
Red=green
Yellow=purple
Blue=Orange
Infact they are completely swapped the color just being a hint towards it thus they are the evil ones in this Story instead of the Oni
There's something cool about inadvertently learning one of your favorite UA-camrs drinks the same brand of matcha you do
I hope its evolution is called Sinistcha.

2:34 wine and champagne do have a difference depending on where it's made
The grapes themselves, the soil from which the plant takes its nutrients etc etc
That's why a Bourgogne is different from a Bordeaux which is different from other wines and you can guess the same thing applies to Champagne
Though sometimes the same ingredients planted in slightly out of champagne aren't called champagne which is kinda stupid

Tea: *Pathetic*
Just came back to this channel after a little while, still having fun.
The evolution already leaked
Or, if you like the Cofagrigus idea, Chaigrigis or Matchagrigus
What do you think?
Good call. The evolution does have the whisk. A tattered whisk is on its head like a hat or hair.

Weird thing to comment on
@@louiskernahan5890 why is that weird?
He is Shrek tea. Nothing more, nothing less.
I've never tried match tea before, to be honest. I've been wanting to, but I'm not sure if I can make it correctly. ^^; Also what a mess. I can't even imagine how long it took it get all that powder out.
Don't put matches in tea
I've had Japanese Matcha flavored kit kats before. They're alright
I"m older now so I'll have to give it another go with Matcha.
they make concentrated matcha that you just mix with milk. id describe the taste as unsalted seaweed
Becomes 3 stage pokemon, Just to throw everyone off. To include Data Miners. Adds Venonat Evo that's a Variant of Butterfree.
1:32 We all know what he's talking about
"What did you just say? Chai tea?! 'Chai' means 'tea' bro! You're saying 'tea tea'!"
Can people in the comments please shut up about the leaks? Most people dont wanna know about them and this video was made before the leaks came out anyways, plus, Lockstin doesnt ussually cover leaks
Im a Pottery maker and i Love the Concept of Kintsugi! (Dont throw our hard work away!)
So im kinda buyist towards Poltchageist 🙂
1:38 Just like how when you say “Chain Mail” you’re just saying “chain chain” as “maile” is the French word for chain
Its carrying a matcha whisk worked in a warehouse where matcha tea sets were sold and these things were labeled as whisks.
Technically, it's a grass/ghost type, not a ghost/grass type as stated in this video.
The evolution of Poltchageist was leaked recently it’s called Sinistcha and it does have the whisk as part of its design. It wears it as a hat.
Don't spoil dude
I swear every video Lockstin get's more unhinged like Mark and Ethan during [Redacted]
