Fran Myers who played Peggy Scott married Roger Newman who played Ken Norris, They both became writers for Another World, One Life to Live and Fran has been writing for Days of Our Lives since 1993. Roger Newman died in 2010
Very nicely done. Interesting that the cast was much smaller back then. I didn’t know an actor other than Robert Milli had played Adam Thorpe. I enjoyed this. Thank you.
It doesn't add up for the credits to list the original actors name portraying Roger's father Adam Thorpe for Bob Milli to already taken over the role of Adam for awhile by '74.
I just added this as a favorite! Wow, if I were in the soap biz I would totally hire you to do my open/close sequences! This GL close was superlative! Wherever did you get that clear, crisp recording of this very rare GL theme? A W E S O M E!!!!
Yes, she portrayed Janet Mason from 1969-75 to got involved with Dr. Ed while recovering from his first bout of alcoholism, along with marrying Holly's brother Ken Norris who she didn't love over carrying torch for Ed when Ed married a then manipulated Holly on a whim for a jealous Ken to go after Ed nearly shooting him to death for Ken to get committed off the show. Roger Thorpe was also in the mix to want Janet for himself not to return his affections while Holly clearly wanted him.
Does anyone have the first 30 minute episode of The Guiding Light from September 1968? I would love to see that, and to hear the music. The music was different from this theme, and the one used from 1952 up to the transition to color in 1967.
I, for one, would like to see that 1968 episode myself..the theme in this video is the 1974 orchestrated (recorded) version Charles Paul played live on the organ/piano from the summer of 1969 to the spring of 1974....
@pannoni1 Uhhh, not exactly correct. The US TV Network transition into color content really made their push in the Mid-Sixties for both Daytime and Prime-time over-the-air television. This video is a quasi re-enactment and not intended to show that everything was shown in B&W back then. Look at the actual 1974 version of this show's original theme opening and closing, and you will see it is indeed created and broadcast in color.
Didn't William Roerick play Vanessa Lewis' father later on? And Roger Newman was also a writer later on, I remember that, plus he played Holly's brother later on also, when Holly? or someone else kidnapped all the children, Coop, Marah, Shayne, Susan, Lizzie, Rocky?Maybe Bill Jr? And of course, Jordan Clarke played Billy Lewis. BTW, whatever happened to the remaining cast that didn't go onto other soaps? Especially the man that played Alan Spaulding? Oh yes, didn't T J Hargrave become one of the victims in the twin towers on 9/11?
Sheri451 - Yes, William Roerick later played Henry Chamberlain, Vanessa’s father. Roger Newman played Holly’s brother Ken Norris and became a writer for the show for many years. He married Fran Myers who played Peggy Fletcher Thorpe. Fran also became a soap writer and still writes for Days of Our Lives. It’s Holly that kidnapped all the children and her brother Ken, again played by Roger Newman, returned for about a year (he didn’t have far to go). Jordan Clarke also played Billy Lewis. P&G didn’t mind bringing back actors for different roles and allowing actors opportunities to move behind scenes as writers, directors, etc. Michael Zaslow wrote for Another World at one time. Alan Spaulding first appeared around 1977. He was originally played by the wonderful Chris Bernau who died in 1989 from HIV at the young age of 49. It was a great loss for the show. It prompted the resurrection of the Roger Thorpe character, played by Michael Zaslow who’s untimely passing in 1998 at age 57 was another great loss. These were the show’s two great alternating villains going all the way back to 1971. At the time of Zaslow’s death, Ron Raines had taken over the role of Alan, but it wasn’t the same. I’m not sure the show ever really recovered from the loss of these two great actors. TJ Hargraves was with Cantor Fitzgerald and died on September 11th 2001 in the World Trade Towers. He had played young Tim ‘TJ’ McIntire when he was a child actor. The character was given the nickname of TJ because of the actor’s name, but later reverted back to Tim when Kevin Bacon took over the role in the early 1980s.
Rest in peace Nancy Addison we love you ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

Great job! This totally brings back memories of Guiding Light. I wish you could make an opening for the show for real
Beautiful orchestrated version of the show's theme song at the time.
I loved Kit Vested Nancy Addison RIP
I remember watching as a kid at my grandmother's house, when Kit tried to kill Sara McEntire around 1974-ish. So suspenseful.
@@mthivier yes i remember that also but didn't Kit get killed on the story ? I know something happened to her
@@mthivier kit Vested had me at the edge of my seat Nancy Addison played the hell out of her role I was sorry to see her go
Nancy Addison also did a MARVELOUS and GOLDEN job playing the role of Jill on Ryan’s Hope. RIP

But then again the credits and all are reimagined.
