One of the most beautiful instrumental themes of all the american daytime dramas.I'm 46 and remember it vividly and fondly(another CBS baby!) Thanks for the upload!
Unknown to every, Stace Redon wanted to get in the Radio business. So he went town to town, up and down the dial. He really liked being a Program Director. Unable to get further, Stace changed his name to Andy Travis, and magically, a Programming job came open in Cincinnati that was about to change its format and play Rock and Roll.
Just beautiful...and oh the memories it brings back. I'm 49 now and I was just a child at the time but I remember Secret Storm, Edge of Night and As the World Turns were my favorites. Thank you so much.

Wow! Look at those waves! My guess is this outro was filmed somewhere in the Pacific. Brings back memories. I remember the previous intros and outros of this show. I don't remember this one. Maybe I was too busy with junior high or maybe CBS switched the time of the show - I always remembered the Secret Storm to be an afternoon show, and it was one of the earliest. Thanks for posting this.

I loved this show. I couldn't wait to get home from school to watch it. I stopped watching in the seventies, so I don't remember these credits, but the music is soothing and very pretty.
I watched it all through my childhood, I missed the last week of the program because of school detention. I keep searching hoping someone will post it!
I was a CBS baby...Secret Storm, As the World Turns, and Edge of Night...what fond memories!! That's the ONLY station my mom watched, and to this day the only soap that I still watch (As The World Turns) is on CBS. How sad that it's going off the air. Feels like a whole era of my life is disappearing! Does anyone know where you can view any of these old soaps at? Everywhere that I have found online does not actually allow you to view old episodes!! (except ATWT)
For one thing, the theme almost never played out this fully, even in the longer closing credits sequence. I remember hearing this theme from the early 1960s onward, even before I began watching the program regularly, because the televison set in my home would still be turned on and tuned in from having watched "Art Linkletter's House Party," and "To Tell The Truth," later after "The Guiding Light," and even later after "Match Game."
Eddie Layton (my former organ teacher) told me that when he took over the music to "The Secret Storm," the new producer, Charles "Chuck" Weiss, had told him that Charlie Paul's version was "too churchy," and that he gave Eddie the opportunity to write a completely different theme. However, Eddie told Chuck that he would keep the melody (which was based on a Brahms Concerto), and just write a different arrangement. I've posted my interpretation of Eddie's theme on my channel.
I don't recall any more than two themes used for "The Secret Storm"--the first one, a very abbreviated organ piece used from 1954 to 1960 (played behind a plain title card with a scene of wind-swept tree), and the best-known theme music used from 1960 until the soap's cancellation in 1974, although undoubtedly first an organ-only version, followed by an orchestrated version, but both played over the familiar filmed scenes of waves crashing against the rocks.
Haha..I love your comment "everyone else is doing it, why not me"....Very nice! The first time I saw one of those 're-imagined" credits on you tube I was so confused...I then realized it was created ...Great Job!
I used an audio tape recorder and a mechanical timer to tape SS and EON. Unfortunately the tape cut off just as Ken Roberts was going into his final announcement. Did he reference the fact that this had been the final episode? I wondered all these years. I used to talk to Bernard Barrow. He rode the LIRR weekly to visit his children in Great Neck and I was a LIRR employee. He hoped that a syndicator would pick it up. very sadhow the jerkass young guns at CBS were always "tweaking" schedules
This is a re-creation of "The Secret Storm" closing segment and theme music, not the actual audio and video used on the soap. The melody is the same as the original theme music used on the series from about 1960-74 (albeit with differing arrangements, one more organ-based, perhaps another orchestrated).
How were you able to listen to "The Secret Storm" theme song on this TVPMM website? I visited the site and the FAQ section states one may not listen to the recordings because of insuffcient resources, partly that they do not have enough kiosks for public access listening?
The visuals here are merely an approximation of the familiar waves-crashing-against-the-rocks imagery, which some have said was an inspiration of the "Dark Shadows" opening segment, that series being the Gothic-horror soap opera that aired following "Storm" on ABC.
For about two years (1966-68) the two shows were head-to-head at 4 PM ET/3 PM CT. "Secret Storm" moved to 3 ET in 1968, to 3:30 in the fall of 1972, and back to 4 in its last few months (March 1973-February 1974).
And while this may be the "genuine" theme song in terms of the actual notes being played, it does not sound like the genuine broadcast music of the program, at least not from the period I watched it (1970-74) and the period represented here.
I sincerely loved everything about your imagined version of a "Secret Storm" closing from 1972--from the Charles Paul orchestral theme to the cast & crew credits.........except the font you used for "The Secret Storm" title card didn't look right or authentic for the time period or show itself. You still get 5 stars from me. :-)
Actually, the Secret Storm had a different theme in 1972. It was a theme by Eddie Layton. This one is an orchestrated version of the second Brahms theme.
On the classicthemes dotcom site a reference is, indeed, made to this Eddie Layton theme, although even it notes there may be a discrepancy between the Brahms' theme you cite and an actual third theme song of "The Secret Storm." In any case, the dates of the classicthemes citations (of as many as four themes) are absolutely incorrect. the dates would actually be something like 1954-60, 1960-73, and perhaps 1975-74 (if a third, different theme was composed at all).
I remember tuning in to (abc's) Secret Storm, just to watch the closing... Don't remember such turbulent, roiling, multi-colorful, high-tide waves (of course at the the time my mom and dad still had just a bl/wh tv, which part, explains the difference, but...). Near-shore rocks I seem to remem. The opening/closing music of soaps was one of the things that first attracted me to them (Days esp. ... the harp-based theme of GL around 1977...) Was this the actual music at least?
Hauntingly beautiful - watched the secret storm in the late 60s when I was 7 or 8 -Lori March and Marla Adams

An absolutely beautiful tribute to a shows long time passing.
I remember this theme song when I was 5 and it made me cry at 5 years old. Because my late mother watches this soap opera.

I know. Those waves were haunting.
Remember watching these old soaps. I don’t think I have watched one from beginning to end. I am 59yrs old now. 9/29/17. Aloha from Hawaii.

Well done. This is one of the most dramatic themes of all time. I am an avid soap watcher for many years. Thank you again and Take Care.

So beautiful...
Beautiful peace of music...Absolutely fabulous! I always preferred the Brahms theme over any other Secret Storm themes.
Gosh I Love and Miss this Expert Soap Opera So Very Much! Miss Caroline McWilliams still haunts my sweetest dreams.🎤🎹🎸🎼😇❤😔B.W.
I remember this song when I was 7 and it made me 😢😭
Brings a tear to the eye😢..great memories!

This is beautiful music.
Two Voiceover Experts in the same cast: Ken Roberts and Alexander Scourby!B.W.
Ha! My parents used to listen to their daily bible reading, performed by Alexander Scourby. I don't think they knew he was on The Secret Storm. 😀
Eddie Layton (my former organ teacher) told me that when he took over the music to "The Secret Storm," the new producer, Charles "Chuck" Weiss, had told him that Charlie Paul's version was "too churchy," and that he gave Eddie the opportunity to write a completely different theme. Glad he kept it.
The Secret Strom ran on CBS from February 1, 1954 to February 8, 1974.
@dcat918
The final episode of THE SECRET STORM aired on February 8, 1974---one week after the show's 20th anniversary.

But he got on with Ryan's Hope so that was good.
LOVE it!! Excellent job!

@marmas58ink yes, this is the GENUINE theme song (the TVPMM site has this same track on its page)

You did a beautiful job too bad they never thought to do it this way
A more accurate example of how "The Secret Storm" sounded in the 1970s (and at least by the late '60s) may be heard on the wavethemes dot-org website.
I'd like to know where you got the orchestral version of this Charles Paul theme and how I can get a copy. Thanks!
Well, the fonts are seem correct for that period; it kinda resembles the Dark Shadows intro.
