As an American I can say with confidence that I've never heard of Big Hunk
It's because it's not made by Nestle or mars. It's made by a company called Annabelle which specializes in making old school candy. I worked at a convenience store at one point and we sold plenty of Annabelle candy. Big hunk is an older less commercialized candy so plenty of younger generations don't really know about it (I live in a retirement/logging community) but I remember a 60 something woman walk in the candy isle and go crazy over it all saying she hasn't seen a lot of it since she was a kid.
Because you're too young
I'm 41 and I've never seen it either.
@@deenafrayo I'm 60 and never heard of it either.
@@aaronb.4830 Same, 41 and never heard of it.
Callyann's genuine laughter at Colin's dad jokes is heartwarming
Very "valley girl" esque. If she lived in the States, she'd be the QUINTESSENTIAL valley girl.
Callyann IS heartwarming 😊
The Victorian Conservative Totally. No exaggeration, I absolutely cannot miss a video if I know she's in it. Her wholesome and positive energy is infectious!
She's a yay sayer...
Tommy Hallum Welp, I can't say no to that one
My mom was a young kid living in Munich during the WWII. When the Americans came in, they gave Butterfingers to the kids. She has a childhood friend, still living in Munich, who asked my mom for a periodic shipment of Butterfingers. The friend's son found out recently he could get them for his mom from Amazon.
I grew up eating Big Hunks (Southern California) and before you open the wrapper you hit the bar on the table to break it up. Then you put a piece in your mouth, and let the nougat get warm and melt. Then, you can chew the nougat because your body temp has made the nougat softer.
My bf and I are both from SoCal and we've NEVER heard of Big Hunks before this video! Until I saw your comment, I was wondering if they were an East Coastie thing.
Yep that’s how, otherwise they’re no good
Big Hunk and Look were alot alike. One had a chocolate coating the other didn't. I used to buy one on the way home from school and put it in the freezer then hit it on the counter.
Big Hunks in my area don't have the chocolate coating. I put it in the freezer to chill then I can break it on the table. Otherwise it won't shatter
@@agirlnamedmichael1670 yeah, they don’t here either! I was combining 2 candy bars on my head 😂 when I write that. I didn’t realize it until later and I didn’t have time to fix it. Sorry!
Lived all my life in America and I've never heard of a "Big Hunk" bar.
It's from Annabelle Candy Company in California. Might be West Coast thing, because I've never heard of ANY of the candies in their roster.
@@HayTatsuko I live on the west coast and I've never heard of Big Hunk. Seems like one of those old people chocolates that you see in like Cracker Barrel or something lol
They are the fucking worst. Every reaction to them in this video was 100% spot on and they should be given a special section in history books of everything that should never happen to a candy bar.
The rest were a surprisingly good sampling though, given that they only get 4-6 things to try per video.
It's all over the Sacramento area in California. Up here in Washington, too.
I’ve lived in the south my whole life and had them often as a kid. Haven’t seen them much lately except in retro candy stores.
I like Baby Ruth, but I always remember Caddyshack where someone threw one into the pool, and everyone freaked out because they thought it was poo...😂😂😂
Reminds me of The Goonies.
"DOODY!"
cue the Jaws theme
and then Bill Murray eats it
CLASSIC!
@@johanvajse8410 Did you know that Bill Murray was only on set for one day? They really got their money’s worth!
@@JPMJPM I did not know that. Wow that was a lot covered in a day.
From the US and never heard of Big Hunk. By the looks of it I'm not missing anything.
I've heard of it, probably even seen it... but I certainly don't go out of my way to get it since I know there are better candy bars that I have had.
I have heard of it, but haven't seen it since the 1980s, and didn't eat it then either. There was nothing ever appealing about the way it looked. Definitely not popular in the United States even though it's here
Never heard of it either and I have done work in or worked for several grocery store chains along the east coast and southeast US. I am not young either to ahve missed it in the past. Weird
The trick is to put it in the freezer and then you can break it into pieces and suck on them. Delicious
Me either. Did they make that one up?
Callyann is hilarious. she says so many things without thinking them thru or the double entendres, meanwhile her TRY-mate and us viewers are cracking up.
Big Hunk™️ and Baby Ruth™️ coming to a WWE wrestling ring near yoooouuuuu
Your unending joy is so fun to watch, that I would actually tolerate wrestling again to see it.
Quick bit of trivia about Baby Ruth's name It was supposed to be Babe Ruth named after the baseball player, but they then realized they would have to pay for the name Soo they changed 1 letter and saved alot of money.
Baby Ruth is named after the baseball player from 1910s.
You and Damon are my favorite tag-team, featuring a big brother/little sister angle. Maybe call you The Snarkington's, something familial.
@@ozlovescoffee5595 actually. it was named after the daughter of President Cleveland, so the candy company claims. But, it certainly didn't hurt that it sounded like Babe Ruth, whose star was very bright at the time of the bar being re-branded in 1921, 17 years after the real 'baby ruth's' death in 1904. "Just a coincidence, your Honor"...
commentary like "butter me up and finger me silly" Is exactly why I love the videos on this channel and the reason I keep coming back for more!
Freaking love it
😂😂😂. 💯
Callyan is my spirit sister when it comes to food, especially candy. I just love her absolute delight and pleasure when trying things, she has so much fun.
For Big Hunk and LOOK! bars you are better to slam it on the counter to break it up before you open it. I live near the factory in California 😂
You could tell that Clisare and Donal were having a blast with this one.
That's a good pairing.
Baby Ruthener
@@savj that is awesome. I am going to use it somewhere for sure! I will say I got it from a savage UA-cam comment.
Was Donal stoned?

Should've fed them the classic American Milk Chocolate Hershey's Bar. Always funny to see overseas reactions to it
In another video they hated Hershey's. Described it as waxy.
I want to go to Ireland and have a drink with these fine people.
Fun Fact: The Baby Ruth Candy Bar was also featured in the Bill Murray Movie "Caddyshack" when it was thrown into a pool and mistaken for a "Doody!"
Don't 4get the movie Goonies has baby Ruth
DAMMIT….I was going to say, “Would they eat that after seeing ‘Caddyshack’….”
@@chantillilace6028 "was also" if you watched the video you'd hear a couple of them quote Sloth when the BabyRuth bars come out.
That was a Payday candy bar
@@webyankee6558,
The bar was dark brown….so Baby Ruth.
Baby Ruth was involved in one the funniest scenes ever in Caddyshack.
And a lot of adult swims ending early at pools when I was growing up... That was fun.
Yes...one of the better pranks involving candy......a Baby Ruth casually floating in a swimming pool. Always good for a laugh!
Well. it does look like a poo log, all floaty and glistening in the sun
I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought of this!
I saw that movie and haven’t had a Baby Ruth since! I can’t unsee it.
Just a bit of candy-bar history for those that might be interested. The Baby Ruth candy bar was named such to ride on the fame of the legendary Babe Ruth baseball player. Curtiss Candy Company reimagined their Kandy Cake confection into what we now know as the Baby Ruth bar in 1921, the same year Babe Ruth was emerging as the most famous ball player of all time. Since they didn't have the rights to the "Babe Ruth" name, they called it the "Baby Ruth" and claimed steadfastly for decades that it was named for the long-dead Ruth Cleveland, first-born child of President Grover Cleveland. The claim is full of holes and can't be proved or disproved which is why they survived legal entanglements when sued for using a name with such obvious ties to Babe Ruth.
I've never seen or had a chocolate covered Big Hunk and as a kid growing up in California, I didn't care for the Big Hunks, but my mom and older sister LOVED them. I was an adult before I finally tasted a FRESH Big Hunk that was indeed soft and chewy and it was excellent!!! Now sometimes on the rare occasion that I go to a certain store in the neighboring city, I'll buy a whole box of Big Hunks for my mom, but the last couple of times that I've done that my older sister and her oldest daughter found my mom's stash and nearly cleaned her out! I'm just happy that they're enjoying it because a good (fresh) Big Hunk is hard to find.
Better choices: Milkyway Dark, Take 5, 3 Musketeers and Whatchamacallit bar.
Payday, too
mail these to them and they'll try
Take 5 is my jam (along with the York peppermint patty), and I will definitely buy a Whatchamacallit from time to time!
Three Musketeers is top notch.
I remember when the Whatchamacallit first came out in the late 70s; it delighted my pre-teen self! YUM!
I've had Big Hunks since I was a kid in the 60's (Californian). I have never even seen a chocolate-covered Big Hunk! The idea doesn't thrill me. A Big Hunk is a hard, chewy nougat with random peanuts in it. What you do is bite/break off a piece and sort of gnaw with your molars for a few moments while it begins to warm and soften in your mouth. I loved it because it lasted a long time- an important consideration for a kid who didn't have much candy money.
I am from NM and we (my friends and I) loved the Big Hunk bars. The idea of putting chocolate on top is very silly. With chocolate, you expect softness and then you bite into it and it's the Big Hunk stuff under. That is dangerous for anyone. Leave it like it was, without the chocolate. We knew what we were getting and ate it accordingly.
Right, A chocolate covered Big Hunk is a "LOOK" bar
@@lcln1 as in "look as I break my tooth biting into this rock hard candy bar?"
Try freezing and then hitting the big hunk bar real hard on the edge of a table. It should shatter and then you can eat the pieces instead of killing your jaw gnaw off a bite.
The chocolate covered nougat candy was a Look bar.
I’m 57 and have never heard of a big hunk candy bar. I have lived in the US my entire life. I love your channel and a lot of things you try I’ve never seen here.
Baby Ruth was NOT named after Babe Ruth. It was named for the deceased daughter of Pres. Cleveland; Ruth Cleveland.
I have never heard of a “Big Hunk” and am truly glad for that.
It's kinda like a Charleston Chew after you've put it in the freezer. If you've got loose fillings, you won't after you eat one.
Or a French Chew. Those are the ones you can shatter but they're pretty soft when pulled or bent.
They're not good
feel like they were putting them on with Big Hunk....never seen one
I loved the pairings today. Laura and Damon were particularly hilarious in this video.
You mean Big Hunk and Baby Ruth
CallyAnn, is such a sweetheart, I love how she's such a positive person
“Oh Henry. That’s one of America’s top selling candy bars. It’s got chocolate, peanut, nougat. It’s scrumptious. Outstanding.” - The eminent attorney Jackie Childs.
I was surprised when I moved to the US and grabbed an Oh Henry. It was totally different than the bar with the same name and similar packaging in Canada. It turns out that the two aren't even made by the same company. Hershey makes the Canadian version and sells it in limited numbers in the US as a Rally bar (Ferrara owns the US rights to the name).
American here. Never heard of Big Hunk and I’m glad😂😂
Big Hunk is from the 1950's, an earlier version of the Charleston Chew with honey
The original version wasn't dipped in chocolate. It's mainly sold in the West, especially on the West Coast. Wasn't too crazy about them even as a kid.
When Callyann says, "Look at the size of those nuts!", and that look on Colin's face when he glances for a second at the camera...
I almost pissed myself from how hard I was laughing! And not ashamed to admit it.
Same here. 😁👍👍👍👍
You have a highly refined sense of humor - said nobody ever.
These candy bars were popular in the 1960s or even before. I haven't eaten any of these in decades. I'm surprised they are still around.
He recognized”Baby Ruth”from the Goonies… I’m impressed, and I don’t feel so old now, thanks!
Butterfinger? I hardly know 'er! 😂🥁
Better than a Butterface!
I laughed out loud and then felt dirty. "That's what she said"
Clisare and Donal look like they're having the best time on the new dating show, the DJ and the Dork.
She's definitely looking 80's preppy school girl, with the sweater and over-sized frames
@@tvtitlechampion3238 I love her glasses, though. She can pull off that look.

The wrestling announcer voice really did it.

I've lived in the US my whole life, and I've NEVER heard of Big Hunk. Butterfinger is the BEST candy bar that you tried. Yuuuum
Butterfinger!!! Love it!
Same
It's a big country :)
Big Hunk is an old timey candy bar by Annabelle Candy, a brand that was really popular when I was a kid. Baby Ruth was named after Babe Ruth, a very famous Baseball player the first half of the 20th century. The Snickers Brownie and Salted Carmel Milky Way are newer revisions of old bars.
We have Mars bars AND Milky Way bars. We have a lot of duplicates and then we have some random ones that definitely don't have a copy cat. I was hoping y'all would get a Take 5 bar!
The recent change in the Butterfinger formula is a grudge I will take to my grave
They CHANGED it? Wtf? I haven't had one in quite a while, but I'm livid. Don't fuck with perfection!
It's fucking terrible, right!?
What!? I haven't had one in forever. Dolts.
Every once in a while somebody at the top of a candy company makes a really stupid decision.
What.....Been awhile guess I'll have to go try one as it was one I enjoyed occasionally.
Great fun pairings, especially laughed at "Beeg Hunque" and "Behbeh Ru-u-u-u-uth" in the outro!
Funnybone tickled, algorithm satisfied. The world is spinning in greased grooves once again.
That was probably the best outro I've seen 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
"It tastes like wall insulation' "Yes,....which we've had" That one got me 🤣🤣
I've lived in many different parts of America and have never heard of a "Big Hunk." Also, I've never tried those different versions of Snickers and Milky Way.. just the Butterfinger.
Candy bars I'd put on the list for TRYers: Payday which is like a pecan log but with salty peanuts (no chocolate), Zero which is kind of like a US Mars bar but with white fudge, Almond Joy which is coconut almonds and chocolate, 100 Grand which has rice-krispie crunch texture in caramel and chocolate, and SKOR which is a buttery-er upscale Heath bar.
10/10 recommend payday and zero bars
Chunky bar? To see them flip out when they hit the raisins?
Skor is like a Heath without the nuts.
If you give them an Almond Joy or Mounds, they’d never go back!
Skor > Heath 100%
Never heard of Big Hunk. It sounds like a dental nightmare!
Love Butterfingers and Milkyways!
But the Milkyways they used were not the regular milky ways. I know they addressed this by references the Mars bars that they have but instead of going with "salted caramel" bs just use a different candy bar altogether
In all these "___ try American candy bars" videos there's always one or two candy bars that leave Americans commenting "What the hell was that?" 🤣🤣
Sounds like the best way to eat it is to just let it sit in your mouth and dissolve.
In 2000, I visited Scotland as my father was a native Scot who moved to the US in the 70's, and I was introduced to a few international candy bars. I tried an Aero for the first time on a British Airways flight. I also found that in the UK, not only is a Milky Way bar called a Mars bar, but our Three Musketeers bar is their Milky Way bar. I still don't understand the name change, though some American convenience stores like 7-Eleven now carry imported Mars bars.
Frank Mars invented the Milky Way in the early 1920s. In the early 1930s he gave his son Forrest $10k and the rights to the Milky Way bar outside of the US so that Forrest could open an international subsidiary (in Slough UK). Forrest began marketing the Milky Way bar as a Mars bar in 1932, which was the same year that the 3 Musketeers bar was released in the US. Forrest began marketing this bar as a Milky Way outside of the US in 1935.
I've never heard of big hunk or any of the other candy bars other than baby Ruth and butterfinger.
That Snickers brownie bar I never seen before.
Also FYI Wisconsin is very much like Ireland. On my way to Iraq I had a layover in Shannon, and while I was outside I felt like I was back in my home state.
The smell of the farm lands, and the cool damp climate. The air, the sun, the green, all looked and smelled the same.
KitKat, almond joy, Reece’s cups, payday, Hershey’s almonds. c’mon they missed all the best ones
Right !!!!!!
Heath bars. Hershey's mint chocolate chip.
And Watchamacallit! 😃🤷🏽♀️
Exactly, they threw the best originals under the bus. And what is Big Hunk? Never heard of it!
Right. who selected these?!
You're all lucky - when that "Big Hunk" gets "chewy" it can pull your fillings out! lol.
My Mom's solution to loose baby teeth.
When I was 11 years old, I popped a crown from my front tooth on a Big Hunk (my first one) in a movie theater, watching Jaws. 47 years later, I still have never had another one.
@ 3:26 the dude tried SO HARD to not say anything, I'm dying, he just stares at the camera
I’m almost fifty years old and have never even heard of a Big Hunk bar, much less eaten one
Same and same here.
Same, and I'm 42. Never seen or heard of the likes of it. The candy bar, that is. 😌
They are soooo good plain. Never had the chocolate covered ones. I'm in California so maybe a western US candy bar. It is good to let them warm up a bit as they are very chewy. Nothing else like them, though. Yum!!!
@@carrieflood4265 I think they must have had stale ones. I adore them when they are soft and chewy.
Saying you never eaten one is redundant when you said you never heard of it.
“Butter me up and fingr me silly” hahaha. Best quote ever!😂
Loved all of these since I was a kid. Used to buy Big Hunks as a kid because they didn't melt in my hip pocket in class and lasted longer. My other go to was Jolly Rancher Apple Stick for 7cents.
I’ve sold snacks for a living for 20 years (vending company) and I’ve never heard of Big Hunk. Snickers, M&M Peanut, and Reeses Peanut Butter Cup are the top three in our industry.
BUTTER ME UP AND FINGER ME SILLY! Definitely one of the most straight forward pickup lines.
"Look at the size of them nuts."
I like how the guy says nothing at first, just looks at the camera like "Should I?"
Collin and the guy with the beard and hat are Absolutely Supper enjoyable to watch!!!!
You all managed to get the Floridian Irish people. Good on you.
Big Hunks are best when they're soft, especially the regular non-chocolate covered kind. If you bend the bar slowly, it just bends and deforms, but if you bend it quickly, it snaps- just like Silly Putty! Put a piece in your mouth and let it warm up til it gets chewy- that's the trick to eating it. My dad loved them and I'll buy one now and then and enjoy it, thinking about him.
Is it kind of like a charleston chew?
@@leighsnyder9650 I was going to say French Chew (I'm from Cincinnati), but probably similar.
@@leighsnyder9650 Yes! It's nougat, kind of taffy-ish in a way. When someone mentions "nougat," the inside of a Milky Way comes to mind, but that's whipped and comes out soft and fluffy, whereas a Big Hunk is more traditional nougat, I think, kinda of like the Charleston Chew.
You’re supposed to drop it before opening and it will break into little pieces 😃
We used to microwave the regular (non chocolate) one for a few seconds then it gets more taffy like and is amazing!
Laura and Damon work well together, very entertaining.
There’s a reason why snickers is number one selling candy bar. It’s perfection
how is the Reese's Peanut Butter Cup not included in this amazing taste test?? (I know it's not considered a "bar")...I thought it was strange to include the 'Big Hunk bar', but they didn't include these well known candy bars: the Clark bar, Zagnut bar, Zero bar, 3 Musketeers bar, $100 Grand bar, 5th Avenue bar, Twix bar, and KIt Kat bar was not included as well....
Callyann! Can't get enough of her laughter.
Even the Irish know the awesomeness of the Goonies!? :) 💘💗😎😁 #HeyYouGuuuuys! 😊
Big Hunk falls under the category of Old People Candy. The weird peanut candy, butterscotch hard candy, good & plenty, Charleston chews, chick o stick, Bit of honey, 3 layer coconut slices…

Donal was on point. Seeing Claire this happy was great

Callyann is awesome
Big Hunk is a vintage brand that is only rarely encountered in the States. Unlike Baby Ruth, which is a true classic familiar to every generation of American, Big Hunk is more like a ‘blast from the past’ That would only be remembered by the oldest of Americans. They can be found at Cracker Barrel Country Store along with several other nostalgic brands of candy from the past.
We have big hunks in most every gas station grocery etc here.
Every. single. American:

Great shoot, but during most of it I was distracted by memories of the Baby Ruth bar in the pool in 'Caddyshack'
Good to see someone else is on the same wavelength. The Goonies was great, but Caddyshack? Classic!
i think that was an O'Henry
Carl: "It's no big deal."
I immediately thought of Caddyshack too, not the Goonies.
Same here! I thought he must have had the wrong movie

I've always liked Damon's sarcastic intellectual energy. I feel like he views all of these shoots as a sort of necessary evil. Lol. I'd love to see him rant full out on some topic in the pub. Guaranteed to dissect the subject.
I would have rather liked to have seen your reactions to something like a 'Whatchamacallit' candy Bar than the 'Big Hunk'. I think the 'Big Hunk' is either a State Specific or a Regional Candy Bar...it's not a Widespread Candy Bar in the U.S.!!
I just bought a king size whatchamacallit
Whatchamcallit is AMAZING. My must-have candy!

Gagging on a Butterfinger? Is that some sort of euphemism?
Clisare.
I've never heard of Big Hunk here in the states. Butterfinger is my all-time favorite. I loved dumping out my Halloween haul, off-loading the nasty stuff like Circus Peanuts and Maryjane's, and hoarding all the mini Butterfingers.
i used to love butterfinger. but when they got baught out by ferrero rochet. or however it is spelled. the peanutbutter formula was changed. and the chocolate does not taste like it used to as well. i do not like them anymore.
Honestly, I'm a simple man. As long as it's chocolate (unless it's coconut or white chocolate, I absolutely *HATE* that stuff with a passion!) I'll happily eat it. I prefer Hershey's, but I'm perfectly content with any kind of milk chocolate or dark chocolate.
I love circus peanuts but maryjane's can go straight to hell
I remember getting Maryjanes as a really small child but don’t remember how it tasted. In my mind I confused it with Bit O Honey.
@@chrisk5651 It's a mix of peanut butter and molasses and takes forever to chew. Never was a fan.

On the Big Hunk, you’re supposed to apply the same move you use to whack a chocolate orange before you open it. Shatter it to pieces and then suck on the shards till you can gnaw them down. 😂
I'm from pennsylvania but I've never heard of big hunks bar. You learn something new everyday.
Butterfingers is the bomb! Heath bars are also.
Heath is okay. Best is Butterfingers or twix.
I used to love Butterfingers, until they changed the recipe a few years ago. Now I'm not a fan.
SKOR is WAY better than Heath. Heath has no flavor compared to Skor
I'm 60 and never have I ever heard of a Big Hunk Candy Bar...EVER.
And from the sounds if it I am not missing anything.
They are pretty chewy at best, and rock hard at their worst. We used to just crack off a piece and suck on it.
i love that you guys know the Goonies which is one of the best ever movies. "sloth love chunk"
I haven't seen a Big Hunk since I was a kid in the 70's. They were never chocolate covered. What I do remember about them is that they should be broken into shards then sort of softened up in your mouth a bit before you attempt to chew them. Kind of like hard marshmallow with peanuts mixed in it. Not a classic candy bar but certainly an old school one. Next you'll be dragging out Zagnut's or Necco Wafer's.
Wow! I'll be 60 in a week and have loved Butterfinger since my childhood. Absolutely shocked by the hatred for this candy bar. They are SUPER popular here in the U.S. Big Hunk was just the white nougat with peanuts in it when I was growing up. I've never heard of it chocolate covered. That sounds disgusting to me. Baby Ruth was my dad's favorite all my life. I love it, too.
Idk man I expected the polarizing reaction to the Butterfinger. From my 30 years of living people either hate the texture and aftertaste or they think it's the best
I'm with you! But I had never even heard the Big Hunk one...
I'm in my early 30s, absolutely detest Butterfinger, and I've seen Big Hunk in every one of the six states I've lived in. You've likely seen it and just skipped over it.
Sounds like a Zero bar to me the way you describe it. Zero bars are way underrated though.
It's crazy to me to see all the dislike for the Big Hunk, let alone people saying they've never seen it. Pro tip: get the Big Hunk NOT covered in chocolate, unfold the entire wrapper, leave the bar on the wrapper and microwave it 5 seconds at a time until it's soft. It's like a marshmallow....
They were off their rockers today. Loved it.
Big Hunk gets softer with warmth. You have to let it sit in your mouth and enjoy it for a bit before getting into it.
Annabelle provides two sets of directions for eating a Big Hunk. You can microwave it for ten seconds to soften things up or you can smack it against a counter to break it into smaller pieces.
When I was ten years old in 1960, the "Big Hunk" candy bar was popular due to it`s size and the cost was a Nickle ( five cents).
I have never heard of a Big Hunk. I am American.
Same here
Never heard of it...EVER
@@ashleydowney1222 West Coast thing. Pretty much like a Charleston Chew, but thinner.
Some candy bars stand the test of time and become classics.
I've never heard of the "Big Hunk". I would have given them a Mounds or Almonds Joy or a Whichamacallit.
if you send them a mounds they'll just say "oh it's a bounty bar" because they have those and they are very similar... and almond joy of course they would say "it's a bounty with an almond"
Whatchamacallit is highly underrated as a candy bar!
I'm American, 52 years old, from Iowa, and have never heard of the Big Hunk candy bar. It doesn't sound like I missed out anything special. 🤣
That was a respectable impression of Hulk Hogan and Randy Savage at the end there!
