  • I take advantage of the woods at our new home to do some foraging for Golden Oyster Mushrooms. These healthy and delicious fungus will grow from spring through the first frost this fall. I would love to put some of these in my pantry for winter if they turn out great!

I will be trying this in the winter with some the over 100lbs I have freeze dried. Found them in Des Moines, Ia. I have become addicted to foraging for these when I bike.

I’m in Woodward! I’m sure I’ve foraged about that many in our woods this year, I’ve given away soo many!

Hi. I haven't tried freeze drying yet. I like to do an egg & milk wash, dipped in flour and cooked in butter. I'm wondering if freeze drying them would work for the way I like them. I've tried so many ways and nothing is as good as fresh. @@adventuresinfreezedrying

@@joleenstephenson969 I will say that these were amazing, but to fry them that way will probably be about 95% of the way to fresh, I fried up freeze dried Morels and they were awfully close to as good as fresh. Tell you what though, in the middle of the winter they will be more than delicious!

What time did you set you freeze dryer to?

I always have 24 hours of extra dry time set, I don’t always need it, but it has saved me on more than one occasion :)

I’ve never looked for mushrooms in the wild. How do you know which are ok to eat?

Golden Oysters are unique in that they don’t have any look alike mushrooms. Morel mushrooms have look alike that can be poisonous. A good fungus guide is helpful, an expert even better. Don’t pick any fungus you can’t identify.
