My headcanon is that the emperor is becoming too powerful for the golden throne. Dan Abnett has specifically said that the emperor is keeping the golden throne alive, not the other way around. And the Terminus Decree is to rebirth himself as the god of humanity. Hopefully hey is better than Khane
@@lordinkwizytormarcus2131accept for the bit where the birth pangs of him becoming the new god wipe out most of humanity instantly, cause millions of years of extreme turbulence in the warp and leads to humanity getting wiped out within hundreds of years. As per the prophecy in the recent books. Perhaps good for the E but bad for humanity and the galaxy as a whole.
Abnett isn’t in charge of the IP which has said the opposite since the start. Terminus Decree seems now to refer to multiple things, including a virus that kills Space Marines.
Did you know that if the emperor leaves the golden throne and there is no one to take his place, the protection mechanism of the throne is triggered and destroys terra? Vulcan forged this protective device so that if Horus wins and kills the emperor on his throne
What if the Emperor REACHED godhood against his will and in his last sane moment he prisoned himself into the golden throne to siphon his own power to never become the dark king?
I like the idea of the Emperor having split his soul, as it somewhat ties to my first exposure to the Emperor in the controversial novel "Inquisitor" by Ian Watson published in 1991. In that novel Inquisitor Jac Draco is given audience to the Emperor on the Golden Throne, and Inquisitor Draco discovers--to his horror--that the Emperor's personality is fragmented into seemingly multiple personalities that do not seem to be aware of what the other personalities are thinking/doing. Does anyone else remember that novel and the fascinating encounter with the Emperor?
I picked up 40K in 93. I appreciate that GW is sticking somewhat to the original lore from those early days. The original Rogue Trader lore, as I remember it, was that chaos had made Horus more powerful than the Emperor. It was Sanguinius’ sacrifice in wounding, or damaging the armor, or Horus that allowed the Emperor to squeak out a victory. The Emperor being a warp god always made sense to me. If the Eldar gave birth to Slaanesh it always made sense that trillions of worshipers in 40K should have manifested in Big E being a warp god. And as Red was my favorite color at 9 I played Blood Angles as my first army. I’m grateful that GW stuck with the lore and that my beloved Primarch died fighting Horus. As interesting as the Balck Rage theory is, I prefer the lore I’ve know for 30 years.
We haven’t seen Sanguinius actually die yet though not anything suggesting why the black rage happened. I strongly expect Sanguinus is on the verge of deaths but will actually make a come back to play a part in the final book too.
I don't remember that in the old lore but it doesn't really matter as a load has been changed. See what happens in the final book I guess? Last we know in book 2 daemons crucified Sang's body but the E hadn't got there yet. @@lewishorsman2219
Sanguinius KNEW his death was needed, maybe what Sanguinius did was not a physical dent, but forcing Horus to show his true colours so when Big E comes, he'll not be able to ambush him with this charade. Sang KNEW he'd not be able to kill Horus, he somewhere he was comfy with the sacrifice so yea, my best guess is that forcing Horus' hand was the point
I would like to think it was something along this line or it makes everything cheap. Felt better when Sanguinius knew his fate if he went, but knew he needed to in order for the big E to win. Otherwise feels like the sacrifice was pointless and a poor was to tie things up
If Valdor somehow plans to heal the emperor, it would probably mean that the emperor would be unable to keep the webway gate closed - at least for a time - so the huge army might be needed to hold back the floods of demons. Just like the custodes did for a time during the siege.
The Emperor would need to amass an two armies, the custodes to hold back the endless tide of daemons and the other to blitz the galaxy and/or warp, terminating the dark gods and/or physical enemies of the Imperium
It’s really cool! When the Emperor casts out his mercy, compassion, humanity & good aspects of his psyche into the warp, it’s makes so much sense to 40K Emperor. Particularly when Gulliman meets Emps & sees a fractured essence devoid of these aspects.
@@berilsevvalbekret772You would let all 10 children die just because you couldn't save them all? Saving 9 and letting the 10th suffer its unstoppable faith of annihilation is better in your "humane" way?😮
The story we had previously could be seen as a mythologised version. The Emp. can't finish Horus until he realises that Horus is gone an and doesn't deserve mercy. What we are seeing is just a change of the order of events, the Emp has become pitiless to defeat his son just not in the way we were told. Myths lie to us...
Speaking of the story before. We have Oll the Perpetual guardsman, and a Custodes going into the final battle. Who sacrifices themself to buy the Emperor that split second and why? The sacrifice has been one of the more mutable parts of the myth through the editions so seeing how it comes together in the end will be interesting.
@@VallornDeathblade originally, back when the story actually meant anything, it was just a normal guardsman. Back before all the perpetual stuff got written in.
Let's call it what it is, it's retconning. Which is fine, they will never finish the 40k story because otherwise the game is over, so some things require changing or expanding. But some of the things GW retcon is just not necessary in my opinion. The emperor is never leaving the golden throne so do we really need to keep changing how he got there/why he is there?
I think that Valdor is creating an army in order to defeat The Dark King part of the Emperor and find and protect the Golden Child part of the Emperor.
Yes, what if the king in yellow isnt valdor. What if the star child, the reincarnation of the emperor, is the king in yellow and valdor is his warmaster with an army. Thats why the primarchs return and they fight together against the dark king, the man who will rise from the golden throne. The fifth chaos god, who will create a second eye of terror at terra. Hell, the orks will have a great time
This whole Starchild/lost soul of the emperor could be an amazing tie in to Leman Russ' return story as he has been searching for the tree of life to heal the Emperor.
I hope so. I miss Russ. Plus his miniature sword needs a serious upgrade. It looks both unusable and fugly as is. Poor Russ. There's some company doing 3D replicas of Warhammer 40 k figures that mostly look awesomonly amazing. If I could paint I would have chanced it right away. That two-handed sword is almost exactly what I see when I figure an ancient Space Viking rune-sword. The axe is a tad too small. Since I like the idea of Russ using it as a main with his shield sometimes. But I'm nitpicking because it looks good. The spear is the biggest problem. It looks phenomenal but totally impractical. I can't even figure out if it's multiple figurines,or the same one in different poses?😂 Have you seen it/them?
You're one of the best 40K loremasters on the field. I watch/listen to quite a lot of 40K lore whilst painting and yours are ones I look forward to. I love long form, deep discussion lore speculation and you're one of my favorites. Keep it up!
I wonder how Lorgar will react to the Emperor being the dark king, we might see him and the word bearers going back to emperor worship but with the goal of bring about the dark king.
It would be great from Lorgars perspective to be able to say "you know what dad, you're right, you weren't a God then, but now you are, despite all your protestations"
I feel that as the Emperor - Dark King scenario develops, Lorgar will probably try to become his priest and say: Well, father? I told you, you are a god.
I’ve always like the idea of the Emperor becoming a chaos god. Sure it took the Eldar millions of years to do it with Slaanesh but they weren’t actively trying to worship It. Humanity is completely different story, they’re actually living their entire lives for the Emperor and dying in his name, which I imagine will drastically speed up the process when you combine that with just how many humans there are, a large hive city world could have equal numbers to all the Eldar alive in the setting right now, and there are thousands of them
Not to mention that the emperor keeps getting fed 1000 psykers routinely for 10,000 years. He himself was already quite a demi-god, so his descend to god hood was long overdue by this point.
@@larrytherustyboii7442 Kind of. Yes and no. The books clearly state, Thr Emperor could become a god anytime he wants...Literally...if he goes all out, he csn become a god. Thr Emperor ascendant...Is when the Emperor removes his own limitations he set upon himself. He legit doesnt even need to be worshiped to STOMP the 4 Gods of Chaps
"Where are the positive chaos gods?" This was answered long ago, the chaos gods are the embodiment of both the positive and negative aspects, it's just that the negative emotions leave a larger impression on the warp itself.
I saw a very compelling discussion on Reddit a while back positing that the Emperor has been able to effectively contain the Dark King with Malcador’s help. I don’t remember it all, but it was something like: The Dark King is said to have immense knowledge, and incredibly power. The Emperor, fearing that he could become The Dark King in its entirety, worked with Malcador during the Crusade to ensure that Malcador would have the knowledge of the King, and the Emperor would have the power. With Malcador dead, and the Emperor essentially not a thinking being, more of a mass of psychic power occasionally forced into lucidity by his duty, the Dark King has been effectively split apart, and partially destroyed. It was quite an interesting idea, though I’m not sure I buy it 100%.
The Emperor was about to ascend to Dark King, and given how new the Dark King idea is they're probably going to either start Warhammer 50k or use it in 40k with the Yellow King storyline
Fast becoming a huge fan of this channel. Deep knowledge of the lore discussed in an audiobook-worthy voice and some light humour sprinkled in. Love it - keep up the good work, SandmanOT 🇬🇧 “In Britain you’re told [the story of the Horus Heresy] as a babe…” 🇬🇧
I find it really strange that i actually like when you stumble words and not cut it out, kinda makes me think im listening to one of my mates talk about something completely random. keep up the great videos.
So if the emperor cut away is mercy does that mean all the imperial miracles are his mercy cut away manifesting or his guilt coming forward after 10000 years of reflection
you re my favorite 40k youtuber now . im listening the streams almost the entire day while playing . and at night when sleeping . you should do more streams with other 40k youtubers . i enjoy the lore so much now the last few years since GW started progrecing the lore for real not like they did in the past where they would do 1 step forwaed 2 steps back. i really like all the new stuff we re getting . the only thing i want now is new Eldar lore , like come on they re doing nothing with them and they re one of the popular factions.
I do like the subtle nods to OG lore in the series as well. It was always stated that malcador only last a very short time on the throne (minutes if not seconds) and the time dilation effect plays into that very well
I don't think that the fundamental lore has changed. We have to remember that no one knew what really happened in the 40k universe. They created the epic story of what happened at the end between Horus and The Emperor and Sanguinis to give it epicness
My Great Lord shall rise again, not as an Emperor of Gold but as the Lord of all Darkness, blacker than the void of space, deeper than the bottomless gulfs of the Empyrean, to enshroud all in his eternal rule. Ave Tenebris Imperator, long may he reign.
I have to say. This is the first video of yours that I have ever seen. Initially, I don't like videos like this and skip them a lot in favor of more...exciting videos. 19:48 Going back to the recent episode about the 2nd & 11th Legions… Anyone notice that Malcador’s throne has two skulls under the arms, marked as 2 and 11?
in the short story two meta physical blades Constantine says when he leaves terra that the path was prepared long ago and that this was also part of the plan. The emperor would have had a hail mary plan in the wings and with malcador gone Constantine is the only one with the knowledge and the loyalty to carry it out.
The Emperor would have a absurd number of contingency plans. He has a good but limited ability to see the future, so he must map every possibility to get where He want to go.
Ooorrrr... constatine is lying to himself. You know after an incredibly traumatizing experience he endured since he is literally a slave programmed to love his master and said master got uber fucked. He isn't a reliable nerrator besides. It would be such a boring story.
With the emperor becoming more active in the 40k setting and the potential apotheosis, do you think we will see perpetuals coming into the current setting? One of the best elements of the HH for me was the introduction of perpetuals and since they have a long and interconnected history with the emperor I would love to see them, perhaps they could be the power behind the cognitae in the inquisitor series. Or perhaps they have retreated to a world where they can build up their numbers and simply outlive the collapse of the imperium and emerge once Chaos has burned itself out after humanities extinction. I dunno if I'd like to see them come back as a faction or just individuals hiding in plain sight, occasionally offering up nuggets of information about the dark age of technology or maybe having access to tech of that era, like a warship or a space station.
You may touch on this (I’m halfway through the vid), but regarding reunification of the Emperor’s soul, remember when he tells Cypher “not yet”? Maybe that’s what he’s waiting for - to be made whole.
The "star child" portion breaking off is very similar to the shards of Magnus, different portions of Magnus with aspects of his personality. They can operate independently and even adversarily against each other. Considering that a "shard" of the Emperor is most likely more powerful than that of Magnus, who knows what could happen with essentially two portions of the Emperor running around... or one sitting and one running around, I guess. Either way, chaos will ensue.
Extra bit of props/respect for you Sandman, and assurance you're on a good 40k creator path.. I instantly noted when you said there's a lot of 40k content channels/creators out there.. They all cover the big, main points and moments in the lore.. Usually a short-ish form video, that hits the main key beats an plot points etc.. So you basically just get the EXACT SAME INFO, 101 slightly different ways!.. Watch 1, watch 20 of them.. You get nothing new etc!!.. I literally made this point about a week ago, think it was on your recent vid with AmberKing.. You give more info, go into things in way more depth.. You offer something new!!.. In a sea of 40k content creators, this is a massssssssssive plus for you buddy.. It makes you stand out from others.. Sure do the round of basic vids on all the main factions, big main lore moments, build up a library of it like the rest bit by bit over time.. Make that one half and a backbone of your channel etc.. So you offer what anyone else does, they can get it here etc.. But i think you should lean into the ultra deep dive, contemplating, theorising mega long vids, as the other half of your offer!.. It could so be your 'niche' appeal draw that you really establish yourself with bro.. You are kind of becoming this to me already anyway!.. But don't be afraid to really lean into it is what I'm saying, if you follow all this!?.. 40k lore addicts (like myself!).. We'll come to you, because you can potentially give/offer more than most!.. Something NEW/EXTRA, that most others don't bother with etc etc.. Just wanted to pass that feedback/thought on buddy.. Keep up the excellent work!!.. 🤟👊👊🙌👌
As coolasthe beefed up Horus sounds, the thought that he's turning Custodes against the Emperor feels like "just to add to the drama" and I really dislike that part. There was a daemon (Kairos I think) who said that the stars would burn out before he could turn a Custodes.
Isnt that more of him saying that eternity will pass before a custodes WILLINGLY turns to chaos? I thought what happened to the custodes was they were controlled against their will?
They don't actually get turned. They seem very conscious that they're betraying the Emperor, but their bodies are being controlled by Horus/The Warp. They're even crying blood trying to resist the powers making them attack the Emperor
@@ZuemmelThey don't get turned, he does essentially exactly what the Emperor does to his one remaining Custodian. They're being puppeted against their will, the book describes how they're all screaming in anguish because their bodies aren't doing what they want. Some are fighting the puppeting so hard that they convulse and die and some stand completely still because they'll begin attacking if they move in any way. It was cool imo, shows how juiced he is
Sanguinius death hit me pretty hard, he never had a chance and Horus played with him cruelly. I also hated the end of Cypher. It felt week for such a high octane occurrence.

Now I’m wondering why the cabal thought that the chaos gods would starve after humanity killed itself in an absolute orgy of violence probly worse than the fall of the eldar
The prophesy makes sense. They said mankind needs to loose ie the emperor, and horus needs to win in order to save the galaxy. Now we know the chaos gods were about to trick the emperor into ascending to a chaos god (dark king) the prophecy makes perfect sense, horus needed to kill the emperor to stop this. They also said chaos would burn out in Horus and this is exactly what is happening with Horus and the traitors in general because there always in fighting and its stated that the power in Horus is starting to burn him out.
@lost870 The prophecy directly implied that Horus would still be able to make choices that wouldn't be in the best interests of Chaos. Right now he doesn't even seem to be truly alive, let alone free to make his own choices.
The idea was they would burn out all the humans and the warring between the gods would leave basically no power left for the Gods to work with. They are used to doing alot with Human power but when it goes to like %2 of their power, they wouldny be able to do anything, just a fart in the wind.
@Subject_Keter Yh that's it. It's nice how it all ties up. Because they basically said if the emperor wins, chaos wins. Which ties up to the whole dark king being born storyline now. They have done a great job. It's the human lust for power and domination over the galaxy, which is the energy the new chaos god was feeding off. Whereas Slanesh fed of the elders sadistic nature. So by allowing the emperor to lose and humanity to diminish its population, the new chaos god is starved of its energy
Perhaps the Emperor was originally looking for the Enuncian word for the "Warp" so he can control the warp and that is one of the things that Valdor, among other things in his golden city reality.
The blood angels stating that Sanguinius created a break in Horus' could be supported by them having visions of their gene father fighting against him. They've had 10k years of brothers reporting seeing it during battles, prior the rage or during the conversions from acolytes into astartes. Wouldn't they have shared memories that supposedly supported their claim?
Actually. Sanguinius did create a break in his armor 20x more than thr legend He actually tore Horus' armor to pieces during the fight...Enough that when reading it is was like "Holy shit Sanguinius is winning"
The Dark King’s black shell makes me think of the Umbra. I mean they are spherical masses of darkness that are already associated with the birth of a chaos god. I know it’s said that they are the remnants of the last old one so probably just a coincidence.
this is one of the main reasons i love this channel (beyonad the god like Voice) we get new lore and not only the same od stuff every single youtuber does over and over and over .. not only that mamny times you see multiple youtubes making the SAME videos like talking about the same stuff having 5-7-9 YT doing that ,, annoying af
As soon as you said Horus (paused at 2:40) I knew it couldn't be him. Not how narratives work. I immediately imagine Vulcan glassing Earth to somehow prevent Horus's ascension, maybe because a cult has broken out there, but, in so doing, falling into the role himself - the best of them, the one most likely to succeed the throne, the one whose succession would seem to forget the brightest future... coming to a tragic and ironic end.
What happens, when Valdor wounds Abaddon with the spear and learns all about him? So Valdor will be aware about his future as the Despoiler and his role in the end times, to defeat Chaos?
So as a quick preamble Dan wove two important things into his books. The Dark King and Enuncia. Both represent crazy power but we learn that Enuncia comes with a cost and if you use it beyond your ability you get hurt. Both will come into it or else why go to the bother of writing them in. I see it going like this. The Emperor didn't want to do the dark king thing because if he becomes a God Chaos wins not becasue he will be evil but if humanity believes in a God they also believe in the big 4. Bad outcome. SO.... Horus and the Emperor fight. Horus is very strong becasue the 4 Gods try to maneuver things into forcing the Emperor to become the Dark King. Big E in desperation decides to not become the King on their terms. He uses Enuncia, something so obscenely powerful it smashed Horus, wipes his soul. In the process is shatters Big Es body. He goes to the throne and decides to ascent to the King on his own terms, shaping humanities belief over thousands of years, changing the dark king prophecy into the...let's call it the Golden King, or maybe the King in yellow. He allows mankind to believe, drinks of that power on the throne and becomes a God while directing the Imperium to suppress belief in the Chaos Gods. To do that we have the Inquisition, a body set up my Malcador along with the grey knights in the dying days of the Heresy. Now, 10K years later he's nearly done ascending, it was so hard for him to talk to Guilliman in human terms, his Primarchs (his Greater Daemons) are returning. He has saints and angels. He's nearly ready for round 2 with Chaos. His last chance.
In The Gaunt's Ghosts novel 'Anarch', there is a scene where Mkoll and a blood pact officer discuss how those on the side of chaos can still worship the Emperor, the natives of the planet Urdesh venerate the Emperor as a champion of Humanity, but as a proto-deity who denied Chaos, hence the Imperium and the Emperor must be "saved" from themselves. I think Dan Abnett has been working on this plot avenue for a long time.
Great channel, I like these story/lore telling combined with a handful of Q&A. I'm so glad channels like this exist and save me hundreds of £ in warhammer products.
My theory is Ollanus Persson (as a perpetual) throw himself and take the mortal hit meant for the Emperor and lose his perpetual life. The problem, for Horus, is he used too much power/energy, so now the Emperor have the entry to obliterate him & the motivation to do so (because he killed his oldest friend and his oldest friend sacrificed himself for the Emperor).
I just realized that Oll still has to leave a path for his past self so somehow they would have to get back together again. It's also stated that if they fail everything will be undone. If Oll dies maybe *E* turns into the Dark King and is finally powerful enough to destroy Horus.
I think there is a missed opportunity to explain Horus accent and submission to the dark gods. What if Horus took the power from Chaos to stop the Dark King based on a prophecy he seen not just to stop the emperor.
@@knuckles543 Not really. Thr prophecy and future seer is clear. Basically If thr Emperor had chosen to become thr dark king...Chaos wins..Period. Game over. If he doesnt choose that path Then Horus wins and ascends. Chaos wins...but a lesser victory than thr dark King..
i wonder if the emp telling cypher to wait and not kill him or whatever has something to do with the other half of the soul, could be cool if the corpse emp is being buffed by the sacrifices and the good emp soul in the warp is being buffed by the prayers and valdor is in cahoots with the latter and readying for a fight between the two.
What if the legion of the damned is backed/created by the shard of the emperor working from inside the warp? It could explain why a literal army of flaming deamons fight for and protect Humanity.
Sister of Battle: "So it is true! You assended to God hood! I KNEW IT!!!" The Emperor: "But I found godhood beneath me and humanities needs." Sister of Battle: "HE'S SO COOL!!!"
Definitely I'm with you on the "old guard" thing. Can't believe I'm actually a progressive in terms of 40k lore. This book wastes a lot of time in some redundancy unfortunately. I'm only forgiving abnett because this dark king stuff is brilliant, specially for connecting to the current timeline. Also for throwing such a low blow to the old guard, who were expecting a 50 pages epic battle between sanguiboy and Horus. Instead is portrait as a little bit more than sport . hahaha savage. Dorn and siguis the biggest letdowns. Valdor needed more time since he's allegedly involved with the king in yellow stuff (now we now why he's doing it! I'm willing to bet that part of the last words but E will say to him and the others will be something like "so yeah Al convinced me to ditch this godhood thing but to be sure there will no turning back I amputated my human part of my soul, so from now on I'm basically a powerful warp furnace and since Horus beat the sht out of me and will have to stay in that chair and snort human souls to stay alive, I won't be much the Listener next time you mention this dark king stuff. So you better have something prepared when I ascend and start to act like some ctan and wipe all us"
It takes me about an hour every morning to wake up. I have to chug a pint of coffee, yawn a thousand times, smack myself in the face, and perform myriad waking rituals. This was a pleasant listen as I beat the cobwebs from the bags under my eyes. I hate mornings.
On the dark king theory, and the emperor being the dark king incased on the golden throne, and the grey knights Terminus decree is to unlock the golden throne to eradicate the only threat worthy of sacrificing most of mankind for the win, as a kinda of martadom tactic where the outter reaches of mankind would survive which would be enough for the emperor to consider it a win?
“In Britain we are taught the story of horus vs the emperor when we are babes” is one of the funniest things I’ve heard in a while. It’s safe to assume any english person you meet plays warhammer and knows how to pronounce “waaagh” properly
Youve got to give Emps a break as far as his greeting for Bobby G went. He's been trapped in agony for 10k years and still spreading his influence across the galaxy while Rawbooty was in stasis.
I'd find it interesting if Abadon becomes the dark king and the emperor awakens as a new god as well, introducing two new chaos gods that are the opposite of one another is rather interesting
Could Malcador survive the heresy through the sword? Something like a Drach'nyen thing? The survival of Garviel Loken and him being an important figure that may still alive would make me shit bricks and clap so hard my hands would fall.
I think this is incredibly unlikely just due to the nature of the Throne. It's not just his mind and body burning away but his very soul. Malcador is being unmade down to the immaterial level by the horrible machine and only psykers throwing themselves onto the inferno to burn instead of him slows it, but doesn't halt it.
No, I don't think so. I think malcador's soul is elevated as the first demon Prince of the emperor; and is transmuted into The Avatar of the astronomicon, Imperious.
@@TheDoomslayersDaddy I had forgotten about that part. Hmm could be could be. But, even if he ends up completely dead, Malcador is a goddamn hero. Let's see what happens in the last book
Ever since i finished Saturnine a week or 2 ago, i sort of expected Oll to be the supposed trooper to be killed by Horus. And its starting to look more and more likely now., if it happens at all.
I figure that E is using himself as a conduit to power up the Star Child with Emperor sacrificed souls. He can also deal with the Astronomicon and the warp gate while there. The throne is a life support system, a prison, a soul transference device (maybe Necron in origin) and a transmitter. E was big on psykana usage and likely relied on it to amp up his already crazy psyker level to near-God level. Also likely that, because of the zeal possessed by the Imperium, he probably gets all those souls as well, or at least the Star Child does. It's going to be a neat ending, no matter how it goes. Long time coming, this.
According to your video where you've said City of inevitable connect to Terra and Vengeful spirit, Ollanius can travel from Terra to Vengeful spirit and use time distortion in the warp Iike in Hammer and Bolter episode "Plague song".
You misunderstand, there is no 'connection' they are one and the same, blended into one another like two balls of dough kneaded together. You can step through a door and find yourself on one of the Vengeful Spirit's hallways, and take a side door off that and find yourself in the mudscape of the Siege and then flee through another door into the Sanctum which has deckplates from the Spirit and transtions into the ship halfway down the corridor.
I imagine because the warp is so awful now thats largely why drinking in so much of it at once would turn him evil. He would essentially be channeling hell. Look into the abyss to long and it looks back sorta thing lol. I don't think it's just the emperor turning evil and probably why he is even willing to try in the face of total defeat.
So what was Horus' reaction to the Emperor becoming the Dark King? If Malcador can sense what is going on, the surely Horus can sense what was happening. Was he scared?
It was likely the Chaos Gods didn't let Horus in on the plan, since if the Emperor did become the Dark King, Horus would have been destroyed. Or Chaos let Horus believe he could defeat the Emperor, even in Dark King form
Malice. Just throwing that Chaos God out there. The only onen to be able to materialize outside of the Warp. Also, the black shell sounds interestinglyblike the Umbra.
i enjoy your videos way way to much Stream are top .. like its my fav thing of the Wk the stream i keep rewatching them (btw 18-11-23 the last night stream or some reason cant see it in my phone only here in my PC)
I don't understand. What's stopping the Emperor from absorbing just enough Warp Energy to beat Horus? Horus is not a god. Why is it Dark King mode or nothing at all? Surely there is something in between for the Emperor.
Because it's a last-minute retcon trying to plaster over the holes that were introduced by expanding out a rough sequence of events - usually able to fit into a few paragraphs at most - into a 70-book long series.
You're one of the best channels out there my guy. You obviously know more than almost anyone in the hobby, and you're the only one I've found who obviously knows more than myself about the lore. From a long time 40K guy, thank you
interesting points. Starchild is something that i always discard because it's lack of lore or development. Is a good point that a part of emperor is wich grow with faith and the other part that is still in the throne is wich grow with their travels and interaction with Chaos. So perhaps a new plot could be revealed about how emperor tries to use the events of the heresy as a possible plan to in future have a leaverage point against chaos.
Here is something that I like to wonder about, and that is the threat the Tyranids pose to the galaxy. I always wanted to read a story where the Imperium tricks one of the hive fleets into going into the warp, and something happens to the space bugs, where they are able to consume warp energy and evolve into a new race of creatures entirely. So if the Emperor is able to absorb warp energy, can the Tyranids do the same thing? as part of their ability to adapt through consumption, and since Tyranids can gain psychic powers if they eat psychers. Like Eldar and certain psychic Humans. If so, could they evolve into a new race of godlike creatures that possess intelligence if they are in the warp adapting to consume warp energy and evolving from it? Can a maggot metamorphize into a God if it consumes enough warp energy?
Great breakdown. Definitely subscribing to your channel. With regard to further speculation regarding the Dark King - the daemon Samus, when taunting Loken, seems to imply that it was possible for either the Emperor, Horus, or even Lorgar to achieve apotheosis if they understood and seized the opportunity offered by the circumstances of the prophecy: The daemon Samus, taunting Loken, seems to imply that it was possible for either the Emperor, Horus, or even Lorgar to achieve apotheosis if they understood and seized the opportunity offered by the circumstances of the prophecy. "Who among them has the courage to reach for it? So few of them, so very few, are even in a position to see it or comprehend its meaning. I can count them upon my fingers. Him? The boastful king on his tiny throne, his feeble light guttering out? Him? The squealing pretender, hunched in the howling gullet of hell? Him, perhaps? The maniac prophet slithering through the open wounds between unblinking stars?" The boastful king is obviously the Emperor, the squealing pretender - Horus, and who could the maniac prophet be, other than Lorgar! Samus is obviously taunting Loken, so what it says should not be taken as the whole truth. Also, it chooses its words to be taken to mean that these three mortals were in a position to see and comprehend the prophecy's meaning. But in the previous sentence, also seems to imply that any of the three could achieve it, if only they had the courage to grasp it. One of the things I love about WH40K is that, what really happens depends on the perception of the beholder or recorder of events - much like real life actually, if you think about it!
The biggest surprise for me was the emperor eluding to much deeper levels of the warp, presumably beyond the chaos gods, where some unknown force manipulated fate so that Ol would appear at the right moment to stop the dark king
Loved this!.. Interesting new lore then by the sounds of things.. Rewriting the cannon i always knew for like the last 20yrs.. That 'Big E' was always stronger than Horus.. And it was only his love for Horus that made him hold back, which got him so injured in the final confrontation etc etc!.. Classic greek tragedy father/son kind of story etc.. But.. It is an interesting new route they taking i guess!.. Part of me, is like wtf, how can you undo something that nearly every 40k knows by heart!.. But really, I'm happy enough to see where the writers go with this.. Could be good hopefully!??.. 🤞 Thanks for the thought and takes on this Sandman.. Top tier content as usual buddy!.. 😎👌💯 P.S. By an hour in i was laughing by how many people made you repeat your stance on 'Malice'.. The lesser 5th chaos god.. I swear it became a secret mini game to the viewers.. See how many times they can bring it back up, get you talking about it!!.. 😂😂😂
No, this isn’t legit. It’s fanfiction. Big E can curb stomp Horus. He is thousands of Shamans combined. You don’t have to believe what the woke weirdo managers of Black Library have started pushing. Remember- we have been involved in 40K longer than they have- we make the rules, we decide what’s the real lore. Just ignore all the recent nonsense. I GM a Dark Heresy RPG game and I just ignore any rubbish that comes out.
Wouldn't the black and golden angel of baal be representations of the both sides of the Emperor? The Dark King and the Star Child. It would imply that the godhood of the emperor had ever existed through time but we didn't know it 😮
No, the Chief Librarian of the Blood Angels Mephiston has bonded his soul with the Dark Angel of Baal to give himself insane psyker powers at the bidding of Sanguinius who he meets when they’re both dead souls floating around in the Warp.
@@thomascrabtreebut what if the point of showing us this is to key us all in to the potential duality of the Emperor. @@kennethhernandez9243yes. Basically sanguinius is ideal that Emperor wanted to achieve now. He is the first who accepted the chaos human nature bound by the strongest law that mankind created- love. I’m reminded of *The Last Church* of the broken clock that was prophesied to chime when the end of humanity was nigh. I think I now know how this story will end. It will end with the Emperor transforming into the Dark King and at last the Galaxy will have two eyes instead of just one.

A thought: what if the emporer being empowered over time has repeatedly or continuously powered him up to the point of ascending to become the dark king, and his currently splintered nature is a result of him repeatedly spinning off parts of himself to avoid fully achieving full apotheosis and consuming humanity?

My headcanon is that the emperor is becoming too powerful for the golden throne. Dan Abnett has specifically said that the emperor is keeping the golden throne alive, not the other way around. And the Terminus Decree is to rebirth himself as the god of humanity. Hopefully hey is better than Khane

Abnett isn’t in charge of the IP which has said the opposite since the start.

@@andrewwinters6352 I love it when theories are invented that are clearly disproven already...
Wait until these guy hear about Ollanius Perrson lmao.

Thats true. Ferrus Manua tols him that Horus mind is weak and mired in thr past, thats a very likely theory
This is my theory too. What's better than an army of powerful Nulls to hold off the flood of daemons while the Emperor is being healed/reborn.

Looking at how everything turned out? Yeah.

I watch these videos cuz I can't read very well and i like hearing the stories u read I relate ur voice to warhammer 40k now
I saw a very compelling discussion on Reddit a while back positing that the Emperor has been able to effectively contain the Dark King with Malcador’s help.
The Emperor was about to ascend to Dark King, and given how new the Dark King idea is they're probably going to either start Warhammer 50k or use it in 40k with the Yellow King storyline

in the short story two meta physical blades Constantine says when he leaves terra that the path was prepared long ago and that this was also part of the plan.

Now I’m wondering why the cabal thought that the chaos gods would starve after humanity killed itself in an absolute orgy of violence probly worse than the fall of the eldar
The 40k setting is no stranger to Eldar prophecies that were actually just Chaotic deceptions.
Actually.
Sanguinius did create a break in his armor
20x more than thr legend
He actually tore Horus' armor to pieces during the fight...Enough that when reading it is was like "Holy shit Sanguinius is winning"
Not only that, but The Emperor completely wiped his entire soul and spiritual essence from existence.
In my head, your tone, timbre, etc. are what Guilliman sounds like in my head. It's exactly what I would expect.
I have listened to this 5 times, I can't get enough haha. This is peak Warhammer for me!
Such a good book.
Great channel, I like these story/lore telling combined with a handful of Q&A. I'm so glad channels like this exist and save me hundreds of £ in warhammer products.
Like the theory on Valdor. He might even be protecting the star child knowing with time he will be needed for quote the end game to finish chaos
There's a nice circle there where he stabbed *E* then saved him from being stabbed. I like it.
I just realized that Oll still has to leave a path for his past self so somehow they would have to get back together again. It's also stated that if they fail everything will be undone. If Oll dies maybe *E* turns into the Dark King and is finally powerful enough to destroy Horus.
So normal people really means jackshit to the GW...
I think there is a missed opportunity to explain Horus accent and submission to the dark gods. What if Horus took the power from Chaos to stop the Dark King based on a prophecy he seen not just to stop the emperor.
in a kind of ''horus was right; but for the wrong approach'', kinda way?
@@knuckles543 Not really.
Thr prophecy and future seer is clear.
Basically
If thr Emperor had chosen to become thr dark king...Chaos wins..Period. Game over.
If he doesnt choose that path
Then Horus wins and ascends.
Chaos wins...but a lesser victory than thr dark King..
Absolutely. Love. This video. Your voice is amazing and the information is very good. Thanks for making these.
i wonder if the emp telling cypher to wait and not kill him or whatever has something to do with the other half of the soul, could be cool if the corpse emp is being buffed by the sacrifices and the good emp soul in the warp is being buffed by the prayers and valdor is in cahoots with the latter and readying for a fight between the two.
What if the legion of the damned is backed/created by the shard of the emperor working from inside the warp? It could explain why a literal army of flaming deamons fight for and protect Humanity.
It's the nascent Starchild, waiting for the corpse on the golden throne to ascend to goodhood
Then he strikes
Oh and Dorn digs out Actaea from where she was buried after confronting Erebus
Sister of Battle: "So it is true! You assended to God hood! I KNEW IT!!!"
The Emperor: "But I found godhood beneath me and humanities needs."
Sister of Battle: "HE'S SO COOL!!!"
Now with the opening of the rift, it's been said the Emperor is more powerful than ever. Does that imply that he drinking from the warp again?
Was my first Stream was awesome thank you.
🤔i think the dark king is the clone that the Aeldari made to perfect!!!you know for there version of the golden throne👍👍👍
“In Britain we are taught the story of horus vs the emperor when we are babes” is one of the funniest things I’ve heard in a while.
It’s safe to assume any english person you meet plays warhammer and knows how to pronounce “waaagh” properly
It you assume that there are only English people in Britain - that would start a WAAAGH 😂😂
@@foxsteven Pretty sure it has many times, in fact.
It's pronounced "oi" right?
Youve got to give Emps a break as far as his greeting for Bobby G went. He's been trapped in agony for 10k years and still spreading his influence across the galaxy while Rawbooty was in stasis.
That's true, I would also be kranky
@@SandmanofTerra Same. 😆😆
This is second edition lore rumor mill stuff we discussed around the tables as we played. 5th God, numen, mankind's ascension to psychic evolution.
I'd find it interesting if Abadon becomes the dark king and the emperor awakens as a new god as well, introducing two new chaos gods that are the opposite of one another is rather interesting
Except the Emperor woudn't be a chaos god. Just like the Eldar gods aren't.
Spoiler.
It 100% is not Oll
I figure that E is using himself as a conduit to power up the Star Child with Emperor sacrificed souls. He can also deal with the Astronomicon and the warp gate while there. The throne is a life support system, a prison, a soul transference device (maybe Necron in origin) and a transmitter. E was big on psykana usage and likely relied on it to amp up his already crazy psyker level to near-God level.
Also likely that, because of the zeal possessed by the Imperium, he probably gets all those souls as well, or at least the Star Child does. It's going to be a neat ending, no matter how it goes. Long time coming, this.
i like your voice. i listen this when sleeping
> "He is completely outmatched there, doesn't stand a chance."
HERETIC!
I love how smug Erebus was about the whole Dark King deal. "Your Emperor has chosen death."
i enjoy this stream so much i keep coming back
Legend!
Or Chaos let Horus believe he could defeat the Emperor, even in Dark King form
rewatching until you make the contiuation :P cant wait fr more
Video everyday in December?!?!?!😮❤❤❤
I like how the oldest living human is literally named “Ol’ Person”.
Malice. Just throwing that Chaos God out there. The only onen to be able to materialize outside of the Warp.
Also, the black shell sounds interestinglyblike the Umbra.
You should do a whole video just on Tarot in the 30k/40k universe.
I wasn't aware there was a Warhammer 40K My Name is Byf on UA-cam.
i enjoy your videos way way to much Stream are top .. like its my fav thing of the Wk the stream i keep rewatching them (btw 18-11-23 the last night stream or some reason cant see it in my phone only here in my PC)
Thanks man! ua-cam.com/users/live-Xn6TdGWtmE?feature=share
From a long time 40K guy, thank you
Thanks so much man!
@@SandmanofTerra "Duty only ends in death!" 🫡
interesting points.
U do relise that the hivemind is already an emperor level psyker ? If it wasn’t it wouldn’t have the possibility to isolate worlds from the warp
Great breakdown. Definitely subscribing to your channel.
With regard to further speculation regarding the Dark King - the daemon Samus, when taunting Loken, seems to imply that it was possible for either the Emperor, Horus, or even Lorgar to achieve apotheosis if they understood and seized the opportunity offered by the circumstances of the prophecy:
The daemon Samus, taunting Loken, seems to imply that it was possible for either the Emperor, Horus, or even Lorgar to achieve apotheosis if they understood and seized the opportunity offered by the circumstances of the prophecy.
The maniac prophet slithering through the open wounds between unblinking stars?"
The boastful king is obviously the Emperor, the squealing pretender - Horus, and who could the maniac prophet be, other than Lorgar!
Thanks so much! Yeah I had similar thoughts in my original video in fact
The biggest surprise for me was the emperor eluding to much deeper levels of the warp, presumably beyond the chaos gods, where some unknown force manipulated fate so that Ol would appear at the right moment to stop the dark king
It was Emperor himself.
🤞
Thanks for the thought and takes on this Sandman..
Top tier content as usual buddy!..
😎👌💯
P.S.

It is very interesting to watch these after the release of the last The End and The Death
The Inevitable City and the Webway have some intriguing similarities.
If sanguinius, and the primarchs, are basically warp gods given mortal, human form, and sanguinius is 2 gods in one body, then it begs the question if this can’t be the case for the emperor as well.
@@kennethhernandez9243yes. Basically sanguinius is ideal that Emperor wanted to achieve now. He is the first who accepted the chaos human nature bound by the strongest law that mankind created- love. As eldars before, before they fell from grace. Sanguinius has seen the truth. He accepted that the only way to survive- choose this chain of events.
I’m reminded of *The Last Church* of the broken clock that was prophesied to chime when the end of humanity was nigh.
I think I now know how this story will end. It will end with the Emperor transforming into the Dark King and at last the Galaxy will have two eyes instead of just one.
If the Emperor, being become the Dark King, the 5th chaos god and it was said that he is the unmaker as per Malcador stated...he can also destroy the other 4 chaos gods in process
A thought: what if the emporer being empowered over time has repeatedly or continuously powered him up to the point of ascending to become the dark king, and his currently splintered nature is a result of him repeatedly spinning off parts of himself to avoid fully achieving full apotheosis and consuming humanity?
