  • "Pogačar, what a boss. Did I see a smirk on his face?" asked Lance after the defending champ took the stage and increased his overall lead. The guys talk about Bastille Day motivation from the riders, who is riding without a contract and the race for second place.

Rolf Sørensen called Carapaz's bluff really early on that last climb on danish tv. He said when a rider is grimassing and grinding teeth like that and don't get dropped when other riders attack, something shady is up! Great call that early by Rolf Sørensen!!
Vingegaard and Pogman told in interviews they had a short chat about Carapaz, i think 5k from the top, they almost said on top of each other that Carapaz was not on the limit like he wanted them to believe, and might attack soon!

I'm leaving a comment for the JB2 Stage 17 podcast since it isn't on UA-cam. Johann, your knowledge and predictions are just AMAZING! Lance, George, & JB - you guys are entertaining & insightful, but there's a reason Johann was such a great director sportif for US Postal. The 2 podcasts are great together. I've been tuning in since the days of humble Lance in the Airstream, and each year it doesn't disappoint. Heck, they're even showing footage of Lance from past tours on the NBC broadcast!

You mentioned Pla d’Adet. I remember watching George win that stage at the Amante Cafe in Boulder, CO. Seems like a long time ago. At that time in my life, I had all but given up on cycling (or any other form of physical exertion to be honest). It was inspiring to see what was possible, what a human could do. On a bike! So I bought one. Then another. Road, MTB, racing, adventure. It was fun to meet you guys in person at 24 Hour Town in 2018 (your Old Pueblo episodes are some of my favorites). And next month, I'll be taking on the Tour Divide (again, 2nd attempt). Keep riding guys! Who do?!

George has technically been stripped of his win to Pla d’Adet (according to Pro Cycling Stats), as he admitted that he doped during that part of his career, however most people would still probably say that George won that day and is still accredited with the victory on Wikipedia.

Jan had a big doping disadvantage compared to Lance. They both doped ofc, but Jan was a more traditional endurance athlete: massive VO2max, lower heart rate (lactate threshold). So big engine displacement, low redline. EPO basically increases your VO2max (engine displacement) but doesn’t increase your redline. Lance had a naturally higher lactate threshold, so Lance got a bigger engine displacement from EPO and could run at a higher heart rate. I’m pretty sure Jan would have won more tours if you take the dope out of the equation.

What was Carapaz hoping to accomplish attacking so very late like that? Absolutely worthless. All the teams need to start working together and actually put pressure on the yellow jersey. This Tour is a joke - here we have a guy riding off his victory because of injuries, crashes and the time trial. Sure, he's the fittest rider it seems, but other riders can put a hurting on him if they tactically do it at the right time and launch with at least one teammate. I can't believe Rigo or Carapaz didn't attack on the first climb. I'm sick of seeing a 5:00+ differential from yellow to the next guy. The only thing I care about in this tour is Cavendish and the KOM competition.
Does anyone else hate the late time trial? I hate that Tadej simply rode every other team's wheel last year, did absolutely no work, wins it in the time trial on the 2nd to last day. It pisses me off that no teams continue racing on the last day. I hate that whole "gentlemen's agreement" - if the Tour is close, piss off with that champagne shit and fucking race for a win!

Uran's only hope is to put 45 seconds to a minute (or more) on Richard in Thursday's mountain stage. In the final rankings Kelderman will overtake O'Connor for 5th as will Lutsenko overtake Mas for 7th. Pogacar will cruise to Paris with 6 minutes and some change on the GC. FYI - I haven't ridden a bike in over ten years (maybe 20) I don't watch cycling except for the Tour de France. I got into it because my oldest son is a Cancer survivor and my youngest son wanted to ride (Thanks Lance that bike was expensive). Now in retirement, I'm just blessed to be alive after a head-on collision (Dash Cam video : ua-cam.com/video/-hyumFMHqZ4/v-deo.html ) Actual meet Lance on the backroads here outside Nashville when he was dating you know who ...

So funny: "You can't trust this guy as far as you can throw 'em!" Describing Carapaz. He (Richard Carapaz) isn't gaining any friends in the Tour. He's quickly becoming a hated rival. For all his stupid fake suffering tactics that didn't work he should go scuffle off to Ecuador after the season's over and focus on his TT. Hope Uran and O'Connor delegate Carapaz to 5th after the TT.
