Yeah, Stealth17 did miss the old Jane's Fleet Command and Dangerous Waters, good ole Sonalysts games. This one has been on radar for ages along side Modern Naval Warfare where you can man the stations of the ships which looked super cool! I will buy both realise I don't have the time to learn how to play but i've always wanted a 3d Command: Modern Operations and this looks like it could be that level of complex.
Well, you have your channel right? You can claim any hour learning the games as "being at work" ;). And if you don't have time, I plan to make videos to help people get started with the game quickly.
@@Stealth17Gaming yeah I always watch your videos especially warno to try and see how to play better. That's exactly what I am doing in msfs now with the chinook in prep for the dcs launch next week get a bit of a learning headstart for some videos
I am hugely excited for this game. I've been waiting for a successor worthy of Jane's Fleet Command and the way this is going, I might just get my wish
I really hope they allow extensive modding support, because their previous game(cold water) doesn't officially allow mod support but some insanely dedicated players manage to make it work and until today,i still play that game and love every aspect of it
I hope so to as modding extends the life span of the game greatly. Take empire at war people still play that game because of the expansive modding community that it has.
Detailed Harpoon mechanics, starts to remind me of Dangerous Waters (90s Submarine simulator). Wide and narrow was a choice to avoid collateral damage pending on how sure you were of the enemy's position. And you controlled the flight path by distance after launch for when it was to turn on it's radar, too late and you missed, too early and you warned the target of your shot and potentially you could sink a fishing boat for an example.
That's what has everyone so excited. It is basically promising the incredible systems depth of a pure tactical game like Harpoon or CMANO COMBINED with the much more fun graphics and 3d visuals of modern strategy games. So you get to look at flat NATO symbols moving around but also look out the window and see the actual units :)
Looks like this might be exactly what you need. It probably won't be a "Cold Waters but you play as a surface ship" though. This is more strategic than being the skipper.
Yeah I can see a ton of replayability for this game the mod support. Extra interesting for me as a content creator too: viewers can craft a mission/challenge that I have to do.
@@Stealth17Gaming I'm more interested in getting modern units through mods. But custom missions are also great, someone should recreate "The Dance of the Vampires" in Red Storm Rising or Nimitz vs IJN in WW2 in The Final Countdown.
Small correction, The Iranian Combattante II class FAC carries OTO Melara 76mm guns as main ASuW and AAW, not 57mm ones. The Fast Forty at the back is 40mm.

Harpoon morphed into Command Modern Ops. The latter is a fantastic game with more technical depth than could ever be replicated in a card and paper wargame. Of course the graphics aren’t even on the same planet as Sea Power, but you still need a PC with some serious grunt to run large scenarios in CMO.
Fun fact: the Soviet aircraft carriers were called "Aircraft carrying cruisers" to get around the fact that they were built in the black sea, and Turkey has some sort of rule or law that keeps all vessels bigger than cruisers from going through the Turkish Straights.
I'm still confused about the one in the video. the Kiev class have purely VTOL aircraft and helicopters while the Kuznetsov has a "ski ramp" on her bow, is the Vilnus some kind of alternate history ship?
The Montreaux Convention restricts warships entering and leaving the Black Sea, tonnage, type, and flag thereof. It isn't specifically stated within the Convention that aircraft carriers cannot transit the Turkish Straits, but a number of clauses, when taken together, effectively prohibit such passage. Whilst the Soviet Union/Russia and other "Black Sea States" have more freedom of movement than nations without a Black Sea shore, they figured they'd avoid the problem altogether and call their definitely-not-aircraft-carriers "cruisers" and hope nobody notices... ... I've played so much of Cold Waters and the DOT mod. I am so excited for this game. If anyone hasn't played Cold Waters I strongly recommend it. It is hands down the best "modern" sub simulator out there. It's not as in depth as I'd like, but its very very good.

In need of a Dangerous waters fix so bad, I hope this game delivers, I see it also has vietnam era missions, would be awesome to see the sim also model small brown water navy operations with coastal patrol boats and PBRs!
would be pretty neat to see a mission that involves coordinating a large naval landing and even providing combat/logistical support as the land forces move deeper inland
Hi Stealth, To explain the TAVKR Vilnus: There is a treaty for the Bosphorus Straight: aircraft carriers above 15.000 tons were not allowed to cross the Bosphorus Strait, under the Montreux Convention Regarding the Regime of the Straits. To circumvent this, the Soviet Union created the Kuznetsov-class aircraft carrying cruiser, which was not classified as an aircraft carrier, thus could cross the Bosphorus Straight.

CMO players will have a field day with this one. Really looking forward to this, been playing Dangerous Waters recently and I am hungry for a new Naval Warfare Game.
It has been years now. Many naval warfare enthusiasts were waiting for its release. I hope they focus on underwater warfare. So, we can finally play with some modern submarines.
I’ve been looking forward to this game since they announced it, I’ve been critical of it, but I’ll still be a very early player of it regardless! I do hope it strikes a good balance between Cold Waters and the Command games. I love RTS games, but I was just overwhelmed trying to learn everything the Command games had to offer and required. Hope to see more the closer we get to the release date! Cheers!
I hope it wont be like war on the sea/cold waters/Atlantic + Pacific fleet where Killerfish made great games but once they where "done" they never added QOL or more content. Cold waters for example still has bugs and quite a number of little things that disturb the flow of the game. All I want is a ×2 - 100 time scale adjustable timescale so I dont have to chase a 24 knot Merchant in a 25 knot sub for 7 min And the campaign without mods to command better ships as you get higher ranks can get stale too.
Yeah, this is kind of what tempers my optimism that this game will by anything different than just "War on the Sea" with a cold war paintjob on it & still just as halfbaked. If Killerfish actually lets it bake in the oven long enough though then I'll totally buy it.
The two ships at the beginning ... one is definitely a Spruance-class (aka Ayatollah-class :p ), but the second one is the USS GALLERY (Oliver Hazard Perry class guided missile Frigate) After looking closer, I do believe the Wainwright is in the formation (?)
I seem to recall that, at one point, this developer was working with one of the total conversion guys who were making either the dot mod, or the epic mod which introduced surface ships into Cold Waters. It wouldn't surprise me in the least to find out that this is essentially an extension of that.
I've been following this game ever since it was first announced years ago. I played a lot of Cold Waters dot mod and epic mod as a surface ship. While impressive especially for a mod, playing as a single warship against task force after task force is not the best experience. And the air threat in cold waters is nonexistent unless you're playing as a submarine. So this game where you control entire fleets is just what I ever wanted.
Looks a lot like what I wanted War on the Sea to be. That game had great physics but a terrible UI. Cold Waters had a little clunky UI but ultimately it was still highly functional. We know the rest of the game can be good, but I really hope they put a lot of work into making a functional UI. 🤞
Some aspects of this game look very similar to Nebulous: Fleet command, but at the same time these games are very different! This has a lot of things Nebulous doesn't have, and nebulous has many things that wouldn't really work with this kind of game. Not to mention the huge thematic differences; Nebulous being a sci-fi game in outer space, and this being based off of real life, taking place in a very real world.
While CMNO can be compared have to understand this game only takes place in 20 year span of mid to late cold war. CMNO while it doesn't have effects has ballistic missiles, satellites, and spans from end of WW2 to 2030ish units and always adding more with far more larger mission planning. But cant wait to play this
Man, this game *REALLY* needs to improve it's formation and multi-unit select controls, along with adding a simple system to set up a "Time on Target" for enemy units so that any vessel/aircraft assigned to attack the target will get's it's missiles on target *at the same time* instead of having it all come in randomly unless you manually get out a calculator and spreadsheet to calculate distances and speeds.
Basically, its Harpoon 2024. I wonder if theyve programmed in errors and mistakes by the pawns. one of my favorite moments in a game was watching Madden and seeing where bad referee calls were programmed in with the ability to challenge bad calls. Im hoping they program in bad maintenance, accidents, errors and bad choices by pawns...
All this talk about scenarios and missions has me worried. I hope that's a gamemode and not the whole game. I want it to be open world or at least pseudo-open world like how Cold Waters is structured. Except that you can zoom in at any time and don't have to be in an engagement to zoom in on the 3D view of your units.
They added the Project 1160 Orel class aircraft carriers to make offensive action more viable for the Soviet side. You can have up to three in the Soviet campaign, and they were given the names Vilnius, Riga and Tallinn, following the same naming scheme as the Kiev class, capaital cuties of Soviet Republics.
The models, launch animations and the water quality are much more better than the existing games of this genre! But the damage-models and the hit animiations could be a bit more intense 😉
Cant wait for Stealth and Wolfpack to make neato cinematics.
Wolfpack is the best in this regard! Perfect mix of cinematics and roleplay with actual commentary gameplay.
A playthrough with no-pausing except for slowing down to real-time could prove fairly hectic!
Sounds like real life navy.
Pause is there if need be, also time can go from x0.1 to 10 to 30 in engagement and up to 3000 on strategy level world-wide map
no pause? sounds like dark souls.
There will be a pause option AFAIK

I saw this and immediately thought this was a reference to duke leto from dune
Basically, its Harpoon 2024.
I wonder if theyve programmed in errors and mistakes by the pawns. one of my favorite moments in a game was watching Madden and seeing where bad referee calls were programmed in with the ability to challenge bad calls. Im hoping they program in bad maintenance, accidents, errors and bad choices by pawns...
it's so beautifull i played cold water and still play it modded of course i can't wait for this game
finally some news on this game. it used to be on the steam store, but it was removed and actually thought it was dead.
It was never removed, the page was always there since we put it there after announcing it.
@@MekStark1980 oh really? i wishlisted it, but it got removed, and when i searched i couldnt find it. Thanks anyway! :)
I'm stoked when the devs said they're trying to release the game in 2024, after a few years of waiting, I hope it's worth it.
It definitely looks like Fleet command. I hope there will be DLC or mods with modern ships and planes to make modern scenarios. 😊😊
The game has huge potential. Let's hope that it is not complicated with many buttons to press.
I can't wait to watch you play this game
Been waiting 3yrs + for this
My body is ready, my mind is ready, the only thing not ready is my FUCKING DAYS OFF
All this talk about scenarios and missions has me worried.
When?
Sorry, under NDA, I can't tell you.
I'm definitely buying this. Praying it works well on the steam deck lol.
The models, launch animations and the water quality are much more better than the existing games of this genre! But the damage-models and the hit animiations could be a bit more intense 😉
